Having been to BCR, it is very obvious how well cared for their cats are. Even in the smaller zoos in Tampa, there are well worn trails where the cats have been pacing for a long time. Not so at BCR. Their cats are content. The ones that enjoy company are on the public paths. The ones that are less sociable have private enclosures. All of them seem well fed and happy. It really is amazing what a great life these cats have when they are rescued and find a new home there. Thanks for the great work you folks do!
That minimum was terrible I wouldn't even keep a dog in there. !!! There's not enough room for anything !!!! Thank you for giving the cats toys the best diet and vet care !!! And of course huge and safe inclousiours I also remember on one of your hurricane proof ?
+Xuncu These enclosures have already been through hurricanes, some as strong as a category four hurricane. bigcatrescue.org/critical-incident-hurricane-and-disaster-plan/
+Big Cat Rescue . mentioning hurricanes, what would happen in hurricane? can you move them to safer place? i am from south florida and know all to well the danger of wind and tornadoes that are spurred off of them. i would imagine first of all they freak out since no big cats are from areas that have tornadoes or hurricanes right?
That would be really awesome! I think that you guys are doing a great job with the space you have to give them the largest and safe enclosures. Wish I could visit one day!
Massimo O'Kissed That actually makes a lot of sense, there's a BuzzFeed video I saw on YT featuring a caracal smacking down and later eating a bird in flight.
A blueprint or some rendering would help. I wonder if a big kitty would be able to bat the drone out of the sky. Sure would be funny but how would one recover the film?
I am also shocked by Florida's inhumane small enclosure size. Also the fact that some states allow big cats to be kept, bred, & sold as pets is insane and inhumane.
my first reaction: i have domestic-ish (they're rescues) cats and that isn't really enough room for one of *them* to be comfortable. (the florida one, not the "this is basically a big carrier" which is even worse). texan, our "exotic animal:" laws are a joke. i'm fairly sure *i* couldn't qualify for a permit to "own" a tiger but that isn't saying much considering some of my friends in the country maybe could.
Great video! Very informative and still fun to watch. It's so heartening to know y'all work so hard to provide the best life possible for these beautiful creatures. Thank you for everything you do! I really hope I can get down to visit one day!
I'm puzzled by comments that think the enclosures are in any way inadequate. The people at Big Cat Rescue work their derrieres off to provide their charges with a standard of care second to none. The space and design for cats are excellent especially when compared to the pathetic legal requirements. There was lion, possibly one of the last known Barbary lions, rescued somewhere in North Africa or Europe and when the poor thing was put in it's enclosure it was walking around oddly. It turns out it had never had it's paws on dirt or grass. Perhaps the Texas tigers should pay those who draft inhumane standards for law a visit.... before they get their breakfast when they're a bit on the churlish side.
xxxBunnixxx love Wonderful! I wasn't aware they had so many. When I last looked them up (a few years ago) the article I read stated there were too few. Although they were searching for more survivors in zoo and other places of captivity since they could not find any left in the wild. There were other species I wish they could bring back, too bad the *^#@$%&% Romans and now trophy hunters developed a passion for blood sports.
Aeval K they are terrified to reintroduce them because of hunters. They will have strict laws and they will be placed in wildlife parks to reproduce there.
xxxBunnixxx love Good. My only concern is the level of security considering there are those who would pay much to get such a rare prize. Thanks for posting I'll have to check out what's going on, they're beautiful.
Rekka Riley I remember seeing a program with someone whose I name I don't remember (and prefer to forget anyway) who seemed to think of himself as an expert. It was about his interactions with a few big cats in Africa, and the lessons he learned with the one lesson still infuriating. He either raised a lion cub or became affiliated with someone who did, but however it worked the cub grew into a beautiful lioness who was completely attached to humans. Deciding to the best thing to do was to find her a pride so she could live a normal lion life. This and that happened in his series of inept attempts to follow his aim always ending with her running for her life back to his truck (he had camper type thing ) badly beaten and bloody. At one point it seemed she would die right there with the idiot, yet he tried again. If I'm not mistaken she was eventually killed. But he had a wonderful time relating how much HE learned and grew from his experience.
So nice! Kitties are in cage & they are yet free in their natural habitat in a limited way. They will definitely bless BCR for the excellent medical n general care taken. Thank you BCR.
Im so glad you provide large enclosures for your cats. I visited a Wildlife Sanctuary here in Northern California and was deeply sadden by the small sizes of each animals enclosure. I guess Im spoiled after seeing and wonderful homes youve created.
BCR has the cats best interest at heart such as medical care, plenty of tlc and ensuring they have the best life possible. Thank you all for your hard work.
@@bigcatrescue I don't understand. I watched Tiger King and that showed Big cat rescue cages as being very tiny where the animal can only eat and not even turn around much. Wonderful enclosures! Safe and healthy for everyone. I wish the law would state the "size requirement" better. A TRAVEL enclosure should be large enough for the animal to stand and turn. NOT a permanent living enclosure!!!!
yeah, that "let's dress somebody up and stick them in a USDA-approved sized one" looked about like "okay, this would be tolerable as a TRANSPORT deal" (assuming we're not talking circus or anything else where they're constantly *in* transport), but it's NOT acceptable for more than that.
i am so sad they only require that the big cats can turn around. that means they can legally keep them in a cage like that for their whole life. that's like putting a goldfish in a coffee cup for its whole life. how can they say that is legal??
Sadly that's exactly what some people do, keep them in cages big enough for them to turn around and that's it sometimes people even kept them in cages that don't allow that
That last meow was so cute :'D I love the work that you guys do! So much love and attention for these big cats is clearly visible :))) Thank you for all your hard work!
You all are amazing, and their cages are amazing, too. I cannot believe someone would keep a tiger in a 240 square-foot cage... It's so sad when someone does. Keep up the good work!!!
I have always admired the enclosures at BCR. They are a huge improvement on not only the shoddy 'minimum requirement' cages many captive cats get, but also much better that the large but bland boxes or fenced in fields that many places provide. I think they are the best of both worlds - aesthetically pleasing to people, and functional and safe for all, with plenty of natural enrichment from a life outside with real foliage and wildlife around them. You should be immensely proud of them, in my opinion.
It is amazing what you do for these gorgeous cats, I wish each and every country could have such safe heaven for big cats. Thank you! I hope one day I will have a chance to visit.

Great Team Work , You at Big Cat Rescue are the Best I have seen anywhere around this World you truly care and Love these Beautiful Big Cats as well as we all do and thank you for your Video's you post to share with us all Cheers
The USDA and State of Florida are both way off, and way under, with their minimum space requirements. Give me a break! The standards sorely need to be updated ASAP. BCR has the right idea, and you can tell from the behavior of the cats they live a good life.
+Rekka Riley. Some of not all of look a bit puny. It is kind of hard to tell that they are dong more than is required. Maybe when they moved the animal to the vacation spot they could take the camera and walk a round the cage then there would be less comments on how small they are if they are Infact are big. There looks to be room to expand it out a little more can they not do so while the animal is placed in a different location?
RiseAsIAm "Some of not all of look a bit puny." How many times do I have to repeat the _very basic concept_ of "don't jump to conclusions? This is a SHORT VIDEO. It's physically impossible to show the entirety of each and every single enclosure, and even then it likely wouldn't be enough to satisfy you. "Maybe when they moved the animal to the vacation spot they could take the camera and walk a round the cage then there would be less comments on how small they are if they are Infact are big." Because people running a busy animal sanctuary have endless amounts of time to waste on making _you_ happy? They have to focus on _safely moving the animal,_ not satisfying your nosiness. "There looks to be room to..." Your perception based on one short video _does not equal reality._ You have absolutely none of the context necessary to make that decision. What you are doing is being an arrogant "keyboard activist" who insists that you somehow know the situation *better than the people who actually work there.* Do you work there? Have you ever visited this place *in person*? Do you work for the city, county, or state perhaps? In a capacity where you would actually have access to all of the logistical data than any such facility has to take into account before making any kind of changes? If the answer to any of the above is "no," then it *does not matter what it "looks like" to you.* You do not have the required knowledge, training, or resources to lecture these people on what they should or should not do. Opinion does not equal fact and not all opinions are equally valid.
Rekka Riley What a rant. Yes it DOES look puny THAT is what I said I suppose you think that, that a lone gives you a reason to go off on people that you do not know. And YOUR aggravation is based on solely on seemingly innocent opinion or statement and so you insult them? That kind of makes you an hypocrite. Wow . Right so you could inform me or educate me in these 'Facts" with out the attitude. Maybe then people would listen more and care more if the person addressing them took in to consideration their ignorance and didn't come of as a pompous arrogant asshole. . So in my logic you don't have enough sense to talk respectfully or if you even work with such origination professionally and you with you being disrespectful then your opinion does not matter because your being rude and I don't deserve to be talked badly to by you I have not disrespected you so you just need to move a long and stop raging on people who are only stating an innocent opinion, and leave people a lone. I have a right to an opinion even if it is wrong if you do not like this then kindly get off of UA-cam and taking your bitchyness some place else.
+Rekka Riley I never claimed to know more than any one you are making assumptions based on an something said with uncertainty. I am not lecturing people either. I am asking honest to god question and waiting for an answer you know why? Because I am human and I want to learn more and would also appreciate the knowledge being if it wasn't coming from a keyboard warrior who thinks she has it all with out knowing or reading any further knowable of the person asking the questions reason behind or why they think a certain way.
RiseAsIAm So instead of using basic logic and actually _looking stuff up_ or _talking to the people who actually live and work there_ or even just _researching the infrastructure of the area,_ you're just going to go with "I'm right because I said so." Classic.
I enjoy your postings so much. I thing the affection you show for the cats is wonderful. The enclosures give them a great home aside from the wild. Some of their stories are so sad that to see them at this facility makes me believe in hope.
Im pretty sure that if anything could break these enclosures, the Florida seasonal wild weathers would be it. Since the enclosures survive hurricanes etc, nothing can probably make them unsteady. And even though the cats at BCR are elderly, mostly docile and very spoiled kitties, who like their food served, some of them would still be able to find their wild side and escape if escape was possible. And as no intern or volunteers have become dinner yet, the in/out safety systems for the enclosures must work perfectly.
+wirina holstein It is highly unlikely an escape would occur because there are just too many checks and blanks in place. But, even if it did, we have a large thick concrete wall around the sanctuary.
Big Cat Rescue Yeah and since its impossible to escape anyway, there's no need to want to explore the dangerous outside world where humans will chase them, put them in small cages and not serve dinner and offer calm and safe environment where all their need are met and their personality respected and cared for. If they were able to rationalize that far, Im sure that would be their thinking :-)
Its sad to see these beautiful animals kept in a caged in area, but aslo amazing to know that there getting the best quality care that they can be given by the Scancuary. Bless BCR for helping these big cats live to there fullest!
+Austin McClain Big Cat Rescue workers are usually volunteers, so you can work there for a while when you're older. Or, if your parents will let you, you can donate to them so they can pay for food, water, medicine, etc.
+Austin McClain - There are already programs for young adults that want to get involved. Email BCR (Big Cat Rescue) or find them on Facebook and ask them. They have posted places for other people where you can get started with education to do this, even starting at your age I think. Good luck and bless you for wanting to save and protect them!
TeufelsWablu that wasn't directed at you, it was directed at akshat who was using them being alive as evidence. If only youtube figured out a proper reply system
KingHalbatorix Well, That was a weak argument on his side. You can click on 'Answer' on the top right and it should automaticly set the name directed at it ,at the beginning of the comment . ( As in KingHalbatorix ) or just do it manually as in +name
Thank you for the link to this video. WOW! I always knew your enclosures were very generous; but how small the state's requirements are is disgusting. I really enjoyed watching this, including the strength test!
Well yes... they can roar but that attack meowing is acutully a growl......... If they can growl.... If not ATTACK MEOWING IT IS!!!!!!!! If we had an answer that would help
I'm currently studying animal management at college in the uk and this would be a dream job. I love watching these videos and learning more about these beautiful animals.

I LOOOOOOOOOVED being at BCR! We made toys out of spices and paper bags, and I can't remember whom mine was given to, but I think she was a bobcat, and she was shredding it. I didn't see her do it though. I think it was Max's friend. I forget her name....
I loved the ending, hearing those happy cats made me smile! I must say though, those tigers can be super scary! BCR is so awesome! I hope one day I can visit! I even got my mom following you on facebook and sharing lots of your articles :)
I don’t think they’d ever get enough funding to do something like that..our country won’t really fund rescues (they aren’t considered a priority so the countries money goes to many other things instead)
THANK YOU for posting this video!! i am so sick of hearing people who dont know anything complain that yall are keeping the cats in small cages. which isnt the case!
Great video as ever, Afton! Very informative. It is almost impossible to visit BCR. So, I become obsess with your videos for my daily dosage of BCR cats. Thank you for the wonderful videos :)
Looks fine to me considering where these 'human-dependent- big cats come from. You can't possibly provide enough space ever to a big cat's natural range, but you can make the smaller place comfortable and these people are doing this. You can't just release them to the wild.

RiseAsIAm "Some of not all of look a bit puny."
How many times do I have to repeat the _very basic concept_ of "don't jump to conclusions? This is a SHORT VIDEO. It's physically impossible to show the entirety of each and every single enclosure, and even then it likely wouldn't be enough to satisfy you.
"Maybe when they moved the animal to the vacation spot they could take the camera and walk a round the cage then there would be less comments on how small they are if they are Infact are big."
Because people running a busy animal sanctuary have endless amounts of time to waste on making _you_ happy? They have to focus on _safely moving the animal,_ not satisfying your nosiness.
"There looks to be room to..."
Your perception based on one short video _does not equal reality._ You have absolutely none of the context necessary to make that decision. What you are doing is being an arrogant "keyboard activist" who insists that you somehow know the situation *better than the people who actually work there.*
Do you work there?
Have you ever visited this place *in person*?
Do you work for the city, county, or state perhaps? In a capacity where you would actually have access to all of the logistical data than any such facility has to take into account before making any kind of changes?
If the answer to any of the above is "no," then it *does not matter what it "looks like" to you.* You do not have the required knowledge, training, or resources to lecture these people on what they should or should not do. Opinion does not equal fact and not all opinions are equally valid.
Rekka Riley
What a rant.
RiseAsIAm So instead of using basic logic and actually _looking stuff up_ or _talking to the people who actually live and work there_ or even just _researching the infrastructure of the area,_ you're just going to go with "I'm right because I said so."
Classic.
I love to hear these beautiful kitties roaring😃
They've made plenty of videos on that :)
You Guys Rock.
Such beautiful animals. Nice to know you guys take great care of 'em. :')
The cougar's face looks too flipping cute when she's drinking her water....little ears flopped over lol.
I would love to work and help out there but I'm in ohio and I'm 14
+Austin McClain, good for you! Perhaps your area has animal rescue groups that could use your time?
+Austin McClain Big Cat Rescue workers are usually volunteers, so you can work there for a while when you're older. Or, if your parents will let you, you can donate to them so they can pay for food, water, medicine, etc.
+Christine King we have a humane society and I think I can volunteer next year I hope I can help
+Austin McClain - There are already programs for young adults that want to get involved. Email BCR (Big Cat Rescue) or find them on Facebook and ask them. They have posted places for other people where you can get started with education to do this, even starting at your age I think.
Good luck and bless you for wanting to save and protect them!
bigGRIZZLY I have the same problem. Too young and too far dang jt

Mh ..Mentioning Zabus and Camerons Enclosure Made me Wonder what would happen if one of them happen to Pass away.
Are they capeable to grief?
yes they are alive are they not?
Bacteria don't grieve; why do you act as though being alive is proof of the capability to grieve?
KingHalbatorix Because I don't know if tigers or lions are capeable or grief. I don't get what's wrong with that Question
TeufelsWablu
that wasn't directed at you, it was directed at akshat who was using them being alive as evidence.
"OOooh tigers can't actually roar..."
THEN WHAT THE F**K WERE THEY DOING 2:10 4:07? ATTACK MEOWING?!
Tigers and all the other greater cat species definitely roar.
Big Cat Rescue THANK YOU
Well yes... they can roar but that attack meowing is acutully a growl.........
If they can growl....
If not ATTACK MEOWING IT IS!!!!!!!!
If we had an answer that would help
After checking abunch of times it is deffenitly a growl
mdizzle999872 they can

They live better than some people do
You guys are awesome!
I believe in big cat rescue and what it does for the cats 🦁🐯
good job! you take good care of them
Those "requirements" would be like a person being stuck in a closet for the rest of their lives. I'm so glad the big cats have found their way to you guys
It's amazing to see how God created these wonderful creatures! And how you take care of them so whole-heartedly! Keep up the amazing work!

Very interesting video ! You take good care of these big kitties :)
You guys do an excellent job by the look of your videos.
Thank you!
Sad that Alex has so many things apparently going wrong. But he is in a good place and I know you guys give him a good kitty life!! Hope that mass isn't something serious.
very nice. it makes me want to bring my cat over for a visit so he can do some (safe) exploring. he's strictly an indoor cat.
Amazing!!!
Great job you guys. Keep up the good work.
Excellent explanation, thank you!
I LOOOOOOOOOVED being at BCR! We made toys out of spices and paper bags, and I can't remember whom mine was given to, but I think she was a bobcat, and she was shredding it. I didn't see her do it though. I think it was Max's friend. I forget her name....
I think it was Mary Ann
Very lovely enclosures, to see that you guys go over the top caring for the big cats is inspiring. Would love to finish up vet school and volunteer
+Zayu Kiroboshi BCR does have a volunteer program.
Cheryl Hopper yes, id love to volunteer but i live in monterrey, mexico and id like to finish my vet studies before doing so :D
Wow cool
Your cages look great. Our zoo is trying their best right now to accommodate three new tigers but the cages aren't even near this size!!
What a wonderful video! You guys do such great work
I loved the ending, hearing those happy cats made me smile! I must say though, those tigers can be super scary! BCR is so awesome! I hope one day I can visit! I even got my mom following you on facebook and sharing lots of your articles :)
+Trixies Mama That is Grr-eat!!
Meg Griffin? Is that you doing the voice?
Nice but I wish it could be like Longleat in the UK, they have a few acres to roam around, with trees, bushes, up/down hill areas and more.
They have a 2.5 acre vacation cage that they rotate the cast thru.
I don’t think they’d ever get enough funding to do something like that..our country won’t really fund rescues (they aren’t considered a priority so the countries money goes to many other things instead)
lol that tiger after being let out of the lock out... grumpy! LOL
THANK YOU for posting this video!! i am so sick of hearing people who dont know anything complain that yall are keeping the cats in small cages. which isnt the case!
0:28 my favourite cat, a.k.a serval
Applause!
Great video as ever, Afton! Very informative. It is almost impossible to visit BCR. So, I become obsess with your videos for my daily dosage of BCR cats. Thank you for the wonderful videos :)
+Saliha Mat Zali I am glad you like the video!! Thank you for watching!
I love animals
I love cats
home sweet home Cats
Looks fine to me considering where these 'human-dependent- big cats come from. You can't possibly provide enough space ever to a big cat's natural range, but you can make the smaller place comfortable and these people are doing this. You can't just release them to the wild.
That roar and body movements really got me though 4:05
Soo they can be kept as pets. Good to know. As long as you have the knowledge and resources than it’s ok.
ua-cam.com/video/cX7ZqZVZRUc/v-deo.html
Wow! That is one strong enclosure wall. Have any of the cats managed to rip out one of the doors such as in a rush of impatience for a feeding?
+LeloniBunny Never!
