- HAPPY FRIDAY! Zabu Bringing Cameron Lion to check on Breakfast early this morning. While Cameron may be a picky eater and often ignore meal, Zabu never misses her meals. Early this morning she knew it was almost time for breakfast so she went to get her buddy, Cameron to go with her to check on breakfast. These two can really brighten up anyone's day.

Zabu and her man. They may getting on in years, battling some health problems, but they still have that incomparable cat strut and one of the most beautiful bonds a couple can possess.

I miss Cammy boy and BuBu girl. They always brightened up my day if I were stressed out or needed something to smile about. Seeing Cameron and Zabu walking side by side in this clip...oh, it made my heart melt. They will be dearly missed. If there were any two cats that were great examples of ending the abuse and trade, it was this famous odd couple.

Zabu always looks so small compared to Cameron but thinking back, Amanda also is noticeably smaller than Andre just not this much lol but I'd guess Seth is probably a bit closer to Cam's size?

Zabu was a white tiger. You only get those from inbreeding. They have many physical issues and some are bred to be smaller so they are easier to handle. WhiteTigerLies.com

+Ramadevi S, Zabu has been moved to Tiger Lake. She has a new almost 2 acre area to explore with a lake and lots new smells and things to see. She is also near the keeper area where food prep is so she can see people coming and going all day if she wants. She was raised around people so she likes seeing them. She is doing very well. Hmm, why is Zabu so small? In another comment, you explain that Cameron isn’t really a large lion, in fact a lioness called Nikita I think, is bigger, is she small because of genetics? Because white tigers have a lot of medical problems, I think.
Or are female lions and tigers more similar in size than I thought...
It is true that white tigers have many health issues due to severe inbreeding such as cleft lip and palate, GI issues and all have crossed eyes. Also due to inbreeding many tigers are smaller than you would find them in the wild. Nikita Lioness is bigger than either Joseph or Cameron were.

They were about the same size. I'm not sure by weight who weighed more.
Both female lions and tigers are considerably smaller than the male lion and tigers. The females average weight is from the high 200's to the low 300's. The males average between the mid 400's to the mid 500's. Tigers tend to be a little heavier because they have a little more body fat.

Many tigers are bred to be smaller because they are easier to handle and they stay smaller longer for cub petting. I don't know how much Zabu weighed but she was indeed smaller than some of the tigers. You can read all about white tigers at WhiteTigerLIes.com

@@DailyBigCat Zabu was average in size for a female tiger. Cameron was an average size male lion. Because he was starved for when he was young. He never would as much as a normal male lion and remained a little thinner. Still he was much bigger than Zabu.

+Peter Ageng'a, no Zabu did not get another cage mate. They had been together for 18 years, since someone raised them together in a roadside zoo trying to make white ligers. That place was shut down and they ended up at BCR. We do not buy, sell, breed, touch or trade our cats as we are an accredited sanctuary (GFAS). Cameron was fixed so they could not breed but they have lived happily together for the last 18 years.

+Coyote Handsome, Big Cat Rescue does not believe in breeding, however, Cameraon and Zabu had been raised together at another facility looking to breed ligers. When they came to BCR they wanted to be together so they were both fixed. A neutered male does not produce testosterone and the mane in a lion is testosterone driven, so he eventually lost it.
