- Castlevania: Symphony of the Night is an action-adventure game developed and published by Konami in 1997.
It is the direct sequel to Castlevania: Rondo of Blood and features Dracula's dhampir son, Alucard, as the protagonis.
Symphony of the Night was an important milestone of the Castlevania series.
It steered the series away from the standard level-by-level platforming formula of older titles and introduced a new style of open-ended gameplay mixed with role-playing game-like elements that would be emulated by most of its successors.
A similar, earlier form of this type of gameplay existed in Castlevania II: Simon's Quest.
Like many installments of the Castlevania series, Symphony of the Night uses a 2D side-scrolling style of gameplay.
The objective of the game is to guide primary player character Alucard through the undead-filled castle, as he sets out to defeat the vampire Dracula.
Symphony of the Night follows a nonlinear style of gameplay; at the game's beginning, Alucard can only access certain areas of the castle, but by obtaining the three forms (a wolf, bat, and mist) that he can shapeshift into, he gradually explores the castle.
A map carried by Alucard automatically updates to reflect the player's progress through the castle.
While previous protagonists of the series have traditionally used whips as their main weapon, Alucard can find and use weapons ranging from edged weapons-typically swords and knives-to knuckles and expendable items, such as neutron bombs or javelins.
He can also obtain health restoratives, various equipment and items to boost his attributes; all located on an inventory.
Relics found throughout the castle will provide him with different abilities, such as being able to double jump.
A bestiary kept by the castle's librarian, who also functions as a shopkeeper, shows the different monsters encounted by the player, and the items they dropped when defeated.

I've been playing this game for almost 20 years, and I had no idea the Heaven Sword existed until today. I fucking love this game
I am 14 and have been playing this since I was 6 and I have all but 7 items on one save, I still have yet to get full map completion though, when I farmed for this sword I ended up having 27 Flamberges afterwards.

well you can the heaven sword early game on the clock tower there is a single cloaked knight on the same hole he use to farm for the sword
There are a lot weapons and items I am just now finding that existed in this game, and I've beat it plenty of times since original PS1 and Saturn days.

What's worse is doing this method, get into a routine, only to have it drop the sword as you backdash out the room... I've had that happen to me at least twice...

Crisseagrim is already the most devastating weapon in the game, but yeah, never knew this existed....it's been almost 20 years since I beat it and I still look back on it as one of the best games I have ever played

Today, I farmed for this in the regular castle's clock tower, at level 27, with the cloaked knight that spawns right above the entrance to his room. For two hours. I got the heaven sword to spawn three times, and each time either it fell through the hole, lost forever, or I did. The words that came out of my mouth that third time are not fit for human consumption. I gave up for the sake of my health and sanity.
Just throwing this out there, there is a very unique sword dropped by the Dodo in the reverse castle called the Rune Sword. It's a really awesome weapon.
Sigma XIII it also takes a ridiculous amount of time to farm, but very cool. The Jewel Sword can turn enemies into precious rings that can be sold using the special attack.
@@caiusmadison2996 The Rune Sword drops with relative ease if you are playing in Luck Mode or have managed to acquire a Lapis Lazuli from the Dragon Riders in the same hall as the Dodo. : )
I knew about the Rune sword, but not the Heaven sword until today. Bloodstained RotN has a lot of stuff from SotN. I always assumed the Flying Edge was based on the Tube sword, but now realize it was based on an even more obscure weapon.
Heaven Sword, Marsil, Crisaegrim, Rune Sword, Mourne Blade, Sword Familiar, Muramasa with 999 stack, best SOTN weapon of all time.
Chakram is my favorite by the time I go to the catcombs in the normal castle. I always get two of them and use it for a long time before getting decent luck status to farm those blades you mention.
This is why *Luck Mode* is available after beating the game once.
Farming for rare items can be truly tedious.
You don't have to beat the game for luck mode.
but it's fucking worth it.

You dont have to beat the game for a luckmode run but you do have to get all the way to dracula before some things like this will drop.

All swords in the game usually had a special move or two to them. The whole dynamic of this game was discovery, and figuring out the puzzles of everything.
I remember farming for two crissagrims. Got em' and varda's. everything just melted afterwards, even drac.

4:17 is when it drops, for those who dont want to sit through the farming
Here’s a tip that no one talks about. When it comes to weapon drops like the heaven sword, rune sword, Crissigram. The trick is to get them in a steady kill rhythm. for about 5 - 10 mins try and kill them at the same place and same speed over and over. After that, just stop for about 20 seconds and let the enemy sort of reset or as I like to say “catch his breathe” then start again. The rhythm is the key. Also… do not equip the rare drop ring. It’ll just drop the flamberge sword more often. This can take about 5 to 30 mins.
The end goal of this game is to collect all the cool weapons.
Using the Crissaegrim to farm the Heaven Sword is very funny. Also it's availiable much earlier than reverse castle.
You should also try the ring of the duel rings of Varna with the Alucart mail, Shield and Sword along with the luck up. You're luck stats will go beyond the roof.
I've gotten the Heaven Sword plenty of times but only once have I ever gotten the Crissaegrim from a Fleaman. Honestly I think the Crissaegrim is the ultimate weapon.

2 heaven swords does a special attack if you have one in both hands if you push both attack buttons at once alucard will throw 15 swords at once one of the best weapons in the game

Yea, I mean the insane amount of items and random Items Drops are a big part of why SOTN is great.
But I just not a big fan of farming in any game. It is repetetive and boring. But I guess with random item drops comes farming. It is completly optinal thankfully, but I myself spent alot of hours farming in SOTN.
I love this game and wish more games like it will be made. But it has it's flaws. The worst thing is I have no idea how I'd fix it. Random Item drops are awesome but farming isn't imo. But I guess these two things just go hand in hand

So here's a small story. I got the sword on the first drop, no farming needed. At the time, the internet wasn't a thing, but word of mouth was. Long story short, several friends farmed for it, and after several hours, no one could get one. We all laughed, and one friend even joked that I should play the lottery. I did just that, and hit the numbers on the head. It wasn't millions of dollars, yet i still had more cash that I started off with, and that was wonderful in my book.
Heaven's Sword indeed.
Ring of Arcana x 2: 1 from Library using boost jump underneath the librarian a few times, other one in the room near Olrox I believe? One's enough anyway. Now equip the full "Alucart" not "Alucard" gear giving you massive luck. You'll likely get your drops within 5 minutes of this. I got 2 rings of Varda, a Fist of Tulkas and 2 x Crissagrim in less than 10 minutes with this setup. Of course you can get the Heaven's Sword much much earlier than you get the Arcana rings so if you want it early you may not have access to this equipment yet.

getting the first one seems to happen relatively quick every time, the second one, however, is much longer. Last game save, I had 40 Flamberge in inventory before my second Heaven sword.
This sword is obtainable earlier when you first enter the clock tower there is a cloaked knight past the breakable wall. Good luck

I have another method, I'm the first castle there is one at the very top of the map, hidden where all the gears are, once you get in the room you just have to go far enough let he will respone with out leaving the room
Knowing how I work on a mental level, I would be unprepared for the sword to drop, and I'd accidentally dodge back off-screen after "getting" it.

Me acuerdo cuando me entere del castillo invertido, habia conseguido el final malo y deje de jugar para probar otros juegos, despues rejugue SotN por lo genial que es, consegui el otro final y desbloquee basicamente otro juego!
Sin mencionar la sorpresa que me lleve al enterarme de la version de Sega Saturn, el modo Richard, el modo dificil.
Ya no hacen juegos como este, que te siguen sorprendiendo a lo largo de los años, aunque el hecho de que ahora con el internet uno se entera de todo quiera o no, debe tener algo que ver.

Got Heaven Sword under 30 min in standard castle clock tower with Alucard’s armor/shield/sword (luck boost). Didn’t drop one single Flameberg either 😂
Edit: Second Heaven Sword took about 45 min to grind after the first one dropped, not bad IMO. Make sure you lure the knight away from the center hole when you kill him, last thing you want is him to drop the sword in the hole.
You have Crissaegrim already, so you've pretty much won the game. And who needs Heaven Sword anyway? That is just a poor man's version of Rune Sword ;)

What’s funny is that in EVERY playthrough I’ve done of this game it takes me hundreds of kills to get the first Heaven Sword but only like 30 or so more kills to get a second one.
Heaven sword is one of the hardest to get, if you're not paying attention because the middle knight in the tower drops
I played this game all the way through twice when it came out in ‘97. I never knew this existed... this game has a ton of secrets. I wish they would make it available on PS4.

You can get heaven sword from the first castle too there is one of these enemys at the top of one the rooms alone with a heart and health container
Get 2 lapiz lazuli equip THEM to increase your luck n grind until it drop.
BUT I PREFER RUNE SWORD AND CRISS FRONT/UPPER ATTACK. ONCE U REACH LEVEL 43 JUST GET ALUCARD SHIELD these are the only wespons you need to beat the game.
Fist of tulkus and flat combat knife is pretty fun too.
Oh, this is a much faster way to do it then what I used to do in the past. Safer too. Ugg...that sword is such a pain to get, but it's so nice.
Any enemy that is worth to beat with this weapon except galamoth? Insane amount of weapons, combat aids, maneuvarability in this game but no single enemy is worth nor puzzles to solve

Equip every luck increase equipment possible, and drink more than 1 luck potion, you won't have to grind all that much.
Ever been doing that so long, that you run back out of the room after killing it, and it had DROPPED the item you were trying to get?? That is anger.

By looking at the likes your comment has I can see that everyone here doesn't know that Mablung Sword can also be used to cast shield spells, not only Shield Rod. That's what Bruno Meneses was talking about.
i played this so much for so long, explored it completely, learned about crissaegrim, runesword, all hard and rare equipment. and after all this time, sotn can still surprise me. Where is your Lord of shadows now?

Flying Rune-Inscribed Sword is way better than Crissaegrim and heaven Sword. Hit Box is Perfect. Covers whole screen in atk direction. hits2x
and you can attack rapidly.. i have it with the randomizer. I dunno the real name, cause the randomizer made also the names random.

I have this on RG 300 emulator. Wore Alucart set for + 30 ,Lapis Lazuli 💍 +15 (+ 45 luck), 1 💍 of varda on second trip. So OP that sword is...(Paranthropus gold Skeleton drops it on second trip. You have to clear the game once and start another in another slot to get it...) Luck tablet + 30 (70 luck & eye of vlad...+80 luck from beating Death the reaper...). Better to get it EARLY...

I already knew that. Most bestaries carry two items. My favorite will always be the one you are currently using you got from Schmoo in the inverted library.

Chained Unfree Chrissaegrim is the best sword. Heaven Sword is more a fun sword than it is best. It may have the best spread for hitting the enemy with it's special, however, as it nearly takes up the majority of the visible play area.

Either he equipped two Heaven's Swords and he is pressing Circle and Square at the same time, or he is using the "special ability" of the sword (pressing "Down, Right + Attack" or "Left, Right + Attack").
Special attack. Perform a "hadoken" like in street fighter with the cross in the direction you want to attack. Back then forward and slash works for some weapons, and finally, both buttons if it's a two handed weapon or dual equipped with two weapons of like kind can also potentially be special inputs.
All you need is time and determination
You can get this early in the game. It's harder but not impossible.

Totally agree, decent weapons were very rare when you need them most, say at very low level trying to get through the marble gallery. Then as soon as you get to inverse castle, overpowering weapons literally just fall on you, by which time you don't need much fancy stuff to pass through. I mean just by luck I got muramasa from normal castle, and spent a couple of hours back in the merman room, and I didn't even need a crissagrim at all.
