There's a scene in this movie where Denzel's character steps out of the shadows and comes out of hiding for the antagonists to see him out in the open. He challenges them here by first relinquishing his weapons - two semi-automatic handguns. This was a subtle throwback to Denzel's first collaboration with director Antoine Fuqua - 2001's Training Day where in that movie Denzel's character also carries two semi-auto's. Hell, in 2013, Denzel was even in a movie CALLED '2 Guns', so it must be some kind of running gag.
3 lines but this one takes the cake. The mistake you made was you killed my friend. So, I'm gonna kill each and every one of you. And the only disappointment in it for me is that I only get to do it once.
The part where he was saying "I know in in this town that I've found peace. You won't take that away from me. You can't take that away from them" or something like that after going into what "he knows"
I really hope this is the final movie and that they leave it as a trilogy. And that's not because I didn't enjoy it, but because I just think this had a solid ending that felt right and making another movie would cheapen it and really make any future releases seem pointless and boring. I really liked the chemistry that Denzel and Dakota had in this. The back and forth between them was entertaining. The action was a bit over the top at times, which was fine, but I actually think the best part of the movie was the slow burn. The setting, walking around town, forming relationships with the townspeople...for me that was the most enjoyable part of this because it gave Robert a form of peace. He loves following a routine and what better way than a slow, quiet town tucked away from a busy city? It had everything for him and watching him realize that he wants to be there was rewarding as a viewer. I feel like the end happened WAY too quickly with no build up, but that's just my opinion. I still enjoyed it though. Not as good as the 1st movie (which came out of nowhere), but better than the 2nd. This was an enjoyable movie and Denzel 100% carries it. The man can act even if he's just sitting in a tiny restaurant staring down a mobster from across the room.
I wished he had more of a quiet send off staring at the sunset or him peacefully walking up a mountain looking down on his new home. It was kind of goofy of him dancing like an old man at end with the townspeople lol. I love Denzel tho.
@@topbackpodcast2615I'll agree with that. It did feel out of place. I get the excitement, but the dancing was weird. I think a more fitting ending would have been him handing that 1 old woman a lemon or him managing to climb the steep church steps without being all winded and needing to cool off and rest. It just didn't feel as if it fit in with the rest of the movie, especially since suddenly the population looked about 20x what it has been the entire movie.
I agree that this should be left as a trilogy, but I would be open to a related film about his origin story. I get sometimes knowing too much takes away the intriguing mystery of the character, but if done right, it can also be very satisfying.
I've liked the Equalizer movies so far, the first the best, but never really thought that Robert faced a real challenging opponent yet. Really liked Denzel in the role though, best parts of these movies.
I completely agree. Excellent films , however, I would like to see a formidable opponent. In my opinion,Jason Statham would be a good foreign antagonist or enemy.
The thing that I love about a Denzel film is I know with 100% certainty that he will give a good performance. I enjoyed this movie but even if it were filled w bad directing, acting, pacing, etc, he is the only actor I've ever seen who can compensate for it all😲👏🏆
Washington Is one of the greatest actors ever. If not for him, these movies would be completely forgettable, and no one would be talking about them. The man could play a tree and win an Oscar; he's just that good.
Even in a mid movie Denzel puts in a 110% An amazing career since first seeing him in films like The Pelican Brief, and Virtuosity. That and having Dakota Fanning in here again with Denzel since Man on Fire is kinda neat. Always wrote these off as a kinda Punisher wannabe film series but now with the third one out may finally check them out as I like slow burn action thrillers.
I loved this movie! Denzel was so good in it. I have forgotten the previous Equalizers, so I probably should go back and watch them, but even so, I still really enjoyed it. Also, a friend of mine until recently lived in a little Italian village like this one, and it felt authentic to me. Kind of nice to know places like that still exist (minus the baddies, of course).
I really enjoy all 3 movies, mainly because I just love watching Denzel play the character of Robert McCall. I don’t think this newest one was necessarily needed but like every other comment is saying, I don’t even care cause just watching Denzel perform this character is amazing. I will say though that the end of the movie really tied up a lot of questions and feelings I had throughout watching it and made me love it even more. A really fun movie. I would rank them in order 1, 2, and 3 but they’re all very enjoyable.
Testament to Denzel Washington's craft that he commits 100% to everything. His take on Robert McCall is a perfect alchemy of stoicism, charisma and clinical execution.
John Wick is way OTT and far more so than the Equalizer has ever been and the JW plot has always been super silly too but has continued getting more outlandish. The Equalizer is like an unrealistic pulp thriller book and JW an actual comic book both in terms of plot and visualization. I actually liked "Polar" more than the last couple of JW films but it's in the same genre. I don't see the Equalizer and JW being of the same genre at all really and they will surely never cross over.
One problem with that would be is that the Equalizer universe is based in reality, and the John Wick universe is more in a land of make-believe where 90% of New York City's population consists of ronin assassins hiding in plain sight just waiting for an assignment.
I enjoyed this movie start to finish and thought it was on par with the other 2 Movies. Its a pretty good trilogy build around the unshakeable talent of Denzel. Very good Movies and overall they all got their strengths. I also really appreciated the depiction of violence and gore in this movie. It just felt raw and real all the time. Always great when an action movie does not shy away from showing the aftermath of what happened. Pretty dang good stuff. I got the very strong feeling that Fuqua can do no wrong...I dont think there is a single one of his movies i did not at least enjoy to watch, most of them i actually liked. I hope he keeps working with Denzel. Also: As always: Pretty dang good review ^^
I agree with the opening statement of how amazing Denzel is and the challenge to name that bad movie was almost impossible to answer until little things. He didn’t have his normal charisma and the movie was just horrible lol but top 5 actor of all time for sure
I love Denzel. Best Actor of all time in my opinion. I also like the other equalizer films quite a bit. The first one was a way to show us who the character is and just how skilled he is. The point of the first one was his struggle to re-enter back into the life he had sworn to leave. The second film, our protagonist had a lot to fight for. There was significant adversity in the antagonists he was up against. This third film really didn't have a whole lot of tension. What was supposed to be the problem in this film that our protagonist has to overcome? (Spoilers) He got shot by the kid at the beginning of the film, which was leading me to believe that they were going to go for a "Even if you take the lives of people who do terrible things, you'll still end up being the villain in someone's story" type of angle, which is a good one. However, we never hear from the kid again, and he just absolutely stomps a mafia ring without much trouble at all. There was no opposing force that created any type of resistance for our protagonist. Of course the fight scenes are always fantastic, but yeah that's my two cents on this one. Wish there was more to the story than just "ok he lives happily ever after in Italy now yay". Also all of this aside, it was beautifully directed, and the actors did a fantastic job with the story they had been given.
sorta blown away that this is getting great reviews - it seemed like a script that got cut up and patched together. so many jarring put-together scenes and a few too many fade-to-blacks in a 2023 movie. This is a 6/10 at best and that's only because of Denzel
I loved tbe slowburn and getting to know the towns people. This film made me feel empathy for the characters. I hate forced empathy and this didn't have it. I plan on going again.
Just saw it yesterday. Denzel delivers again. Yes the set up was a little long, but that gives the action later an emotional weight it would not have had otherwise. Hopefully we get another Equalizer before we’re done.
It had Man on Fire vibes in this one and not b just because he was reunited with Dakota. He was brutal, focused and bad ass and I loved it. Chuckled at his comebacks and brutality some times. Denzel is probably the best actor going. Doesn't matter what the film is, if Denzel is in it I'll watch it.
I know you probably won't read this, but I always wish we could get some modern attention for his "Man on Fire" movie; which is so criminally underrated and poorly reviewed. It was kind of his best film that's similar in genre/Denzel role type (for me anyway).
The first half being a slow burn was fine with me. In order for it to be believable that he really cared for these people, the movie needed to make sure it showed plenty of time with Robert actually interacting and building relationships with them. It did that well. The movie also did a fantastic job building up the antagonists, and making you really hate them. In my opinion that makes the action scenes more satisfying. Speaking of action scenes, this is my only issue with this movie. There isnt nearly enough of the equalizer....equalizing 💀. And when he does eventually get to the bad ass fight scenes, they just go by too quickly. I may be alone in thinking this, but I genuinely feel like the ending was kind of rushed. It just made what should have been a satisfying, very equalizeresque calculated take down of the bad guys...well not so satisfying. It's hard for me to put into words, but maybe they'll come after I see the movie a few more times. All I can say for sure is that I'm left feeling disappointed and wanting more. Also, to rank this trilogy is easy. 1-3 in the order of release. The second of which is much closer to first than the third is to either of the first two.
Finally!👏 I've been searching for this kind of comment. Someone who isn't afraid to say that 3 is weaker than the two previous installments. Idk for me what this movie lacks are the action scenes. Don't get ne wrong the brutal and gory af scenes are much more *chef's kiss* than 1&2 but it like i said.... it lacks more action scenes. That's my only issue in movie. Denzel's performance? Fucking amazing, as always. Pacing and lack of action scenes are my only issue.
That's the Same thing I felt ....I told my brother I wanted the bad guys to be extra dangerous more tougher but Denzel just made them look like nobodies .. they couldn't even shoot a gun they didn't seem like a Mafia in the end the main villain was begging and crying in the end smh they were to easy for Denzel 😂
In these days of "in your face" "now now now" entertainment, i have come to really appreciate a slow burn movie. Not seen this one yet, but i think i will.
I think I saw Jeremy at the Sheraton in Seattle on Friday evening. He was talking to a friend so I didn’t want to interrupt. So cool that I saw ya Jeremy.
As much as I love John Wick, I prefer how The Equalizer tells a story. I really love the mixture of realistic drama with spouts of very bloody violence. Plus Denzel is a vastly superior actor.
I agree with lots of the comments, watching Denzel in the Italian countryside interacting with the locals was a joy. It’s a shame it was a movie the people are genuine. The plot was badass but I’m happy with this film being a tourist piece. We need part 4 !
It's a very decent and subtle film Some substance + some style Missed Harry gregson score But, it's a decent film gives good experience. Thanks for the Ride Antoine and Denz
The issues i have with these films is that Denzel never had an equal threat. All films he's perfect with no true fear of the enemy. Wish he fought one trained assassin that finally not only gave him a good fight, was as observing as him & understood Denzel's character inner pain.
John wick went into the realms of superpowers in the latest sequels though. Suits that can block bullets, for example. If they are not careful it will enter the ridiculous level of fast and the furious. The equaliser has managed to avoid that silly super human ability power creep in its sequels so far, so I don’t think it matches the John wick universe.
One of the common traits of the first two Equalizer movies is the slow burn quality Fuqua and Washington built. Depending on one's movie tastes, it becomes either a major plus or minus. Either way, in this world of hyper edits and dumbed down template mega IP projects, it should stand out enough to find its audience. On something completely unrelated, I am blessed with an amazing selection of new re-releases and a new release this weekend near me. They Live (with the one and only "Rowdy" Roddy Piper as lead actor) and The Goonies are having limited re-releases AND Equalizer 3 opens in the primary theater I go to. It almost makes one want to be antisocial and get lost in movie land for longer than one should. Almost.
I'm old enough to have watched the original Equalizer tv show back in the 80's with Edward Woodward. The first movie with Denzel had some of what made that tv show good, local issue, local criminals brought to justice. But since then the movies have lost that small town feel and gone worldwide making them no better or worse than a ton of other such movies like John Wick, or Taken. I wish they had kept the stories in America, in one city, just given him different enemies to fight.
@@ukmediawarrior .. This arguably has better small town vibes than most of America's small towns. Why does it have to be in America ALL THE TIME? That eventually just becomes boring. Only show that could pull it off might be Reacher.
@@BuriedDutchmanBecause that is the show they decided to make movies off of. If they wanted some globe trotting problem solver then they should of made their own movie. This is the issue with movies made today based on shows from the 80's, they either make them into comedies, or they ignore what made them so good in the first place just to make them 'appeal to a larger audience'. They take the title of the show, what people remember, than slap it on something which bears no resemblance to the show at all.
@@ukmediawarrior My brother in Christ, change the name of the town to "Hicktown" and change Italy to USA and you have EXACTLY what you are describing lmfao. What difference does it make if the small local issues are American or Italian you weirdo ahahaha such an absurdly American take. Not every adaptation has to be NAILED on identical to the source material.
I went in with extremely low expectations as I didn’t care for the second film but I loved this more. I love the transitions from shot to shot and the overall directing is wonderful. Having Cinematography this great for an equalizer movie feels so out of left field but I loved it
@@StimParavane yeah i’d say that pairs up better given the character arc for Denzel’s character. Denzel is always great, but Antoine Fuqua directed the shit out of this movie! I honesty cant wait to rewatch this
Honestly i was not a fan of this one; I think the first two were alot of fun and interesting but this one was just a lot of downtime of him hanging out with the townsfolk which gets kinda stale after a while. And the final fight went way too quick and compared to the first 2 movies with the Home Depot fight and the shipyard fight along with the villain being overly generic and uninteresting compared to the first villain and Pedro pascal in the 2nd one. The weakest one in the trilogy imo.
The best thing about this movie is that the main antagonist SUFFERS in his final moment! Not many movies ever did that except The Equalizer series. It felt sooo good watching that.
Tried to see this last night but unfortunately, the sound was distorted and out-of-sync. We only watched the opening sequence, but man oh man, it was BRUTAL. In a good way. Can’t wait to actually see the full movie. 😆
This was boring compared the one and two, 60 percent of the time they were speaking some other language, there was very less action involved felt very dull for a equalizer movie
Watched it on Tuesday during discount day and the small theater wasn’t packed but half of it was and Denzel had everyone in the theater like “ooooo” when ever he had a great comeback .
I’m normally really good at figuring out the endings of movies almost right from the beginning. I guess because Dakota Fanning’s character never made an appearance let alone was discussed in the first movie so her being the daughter of the lady who died in the second movie blew my mind, lol. 3 lines but this one takes the cake.
The mistake you made was you killed my friend. So, I'm gonna kill each and every one of you. And the only disappointment in it for me is that I only get to do it once.
@@NdoubleN2that was my favorite line too.
@@NdoubleN2"See you at work" 👈👈
The part where he was saying "I know in in this town that I've found peace.
Action was a bit over the top? There was like no action in this lol
Well put.
It’s more like a story movie rather than an action movie .
I loved the part when thanos shows up and says to Denzel “perfectly balanced, as all things should be.”
Great movie and I would largely entertain the idea of his son playing him in a prequel
Oh damn that would be great
The thing that I love about a Denzel film is I know with 100% certainty that he will give a good performance.
I love your work - in a totally non-stalkery way.
Thanks for being direct in your opinions with reasoning and personal bias acknowledged.
I love the scene where he pulls Excalibur out of the Death Star and says “it’s equalizing time”
"Its equalizing time"🤣🤣🤣🤣
Even in a mid movie Denzel puts in a 110% An amazing career since first seeing him in films like The Pelican Brief, and Virtuosity. That and having Dakota Fanning in here again with Denzel since Man on Fire is kinda neat. Always wrote these off as a kinda Punisher wannabe film series but now with the third one out may finally check them out as I like slow burn action thrillers.
Denzel Washington mentions he doesn't like to do sequels. So when he does, you know its gonna be GOOD!
Definitely watching in theatres!
We need to see The Equalizer and John Wick in the same universe!
Polar was absolutely amazing! Great flick!@@huzcer
Another solid action movie trilogy, love it!
Its really nice to have a trilogy like this. Easy to watch, we all love Denzel and the movies are fulfilling
TWO GUYS who will NEVER cheat you.... Denzel Washington and Tom Cruise 💪🏾
Denzel is my favorite actor and Jeremy is my favorite movie reviewer so I guess I have a movie to see this weekend, thanks man.
You're so right Jeremy, there are people in this world that do suck.
Seeing these pos evil cretins being decimated by Robert was awesome.
I loved the part where Denzel equalized all over the place.
It’s EQUALIZING time!
the own movie was a commercial for his watch ha
This comment had me laughing 😂
He’s gonna equalize all over the coffee shop ladies face. 😅
sorta blown away that this is getting great reviews - it seemed like a script that got cut up and patched together. so many jarring put-together scenes and a few too many fade-to-blacks in a 2023 movie. This is a 6/10 at best and that's only because of Denzel
the first 2 were way better
I saw this tonight in imax and loved it. The theater was almost empty which made me very sad, I so badly want this film to do well.
It had the best opening weekend of all 3 but this isn't much of a imax draw
Love that this turned into a trilogy! Sooo much better than John Wick
If Denzel is on the screen, I'm watching.
Always love watching Denzel Washington equalize all over the screen, especially in the imax format ❤
Agreed
Totally agree
Love when Denzel goes “it’s equalizing time!”
Lol
In these days of "in your face" "now now now" entertainment, i have come to really appreciate a slow burn movie. Not seen this one yet, but i think i will.
I will watch "anything Denzel"... I Love this man.. This movie did not disappoint. 10 stars 🎉❤⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
It was a slow burn but it was fun watching him bond with the town and the people. The trailer lied to us about him finding his equal lol
I just saw this movie and I have to say the violence and action was truly next level. I mean truly gruesome stuff
First time I said "Holy 🤬" in a theatre and I immediately apologized to Jesus afterward!😅
It's a very decent and subtle film
Some substance + some style
Missed Harry gregson score
But, it's a decent film gives good experience.
If they made a movie with Denzel Washington and Liam Neeson, I'd go bankrupt.
I'm sure it's coming....... 'Grumpy Old Men With Guns'.
I would love it if they did a prequil trilogy with his son playing the role
Denzel never disappoints
Denzel washington is the definition of the word "LEGEND" what an actor i witnessed in my life
I hope equalizer and John wick take place in the same world
Watched it last night. Everyone in my theater clapped. Once in the middle and at the end.
Looking forward to this movie.
"The more you fuck around, the more you're gonna find out" . . . . that was a GREAT drop!
I saw it last night, and loved it!
I loved it being slow burn unlike these 100s of typical action movies with nothing but action and THATS it
Really hoping this has a crossover with John Wick
Pretty sure I heard somewhere that Keanu is interested in exactly that idea
John wick went into the realms of superpowers in the latest sequels though. Suits that can block bullets, for example. If they are not careful it will enter the ridiculous level of fast and the furious. The equaliser has managed to avoid that silly super human ability power creep in its sequels so far, so I don’t think it matches the John wick universe.
No thanks, at this point crossovers and multiverses are the most stale, unoriginal and cliche trend of the mid 2000's.
Or crossover with Morbius.
@@PenjaminFranklynspeak for yourself.. john wick and the equalizer together would go crazy
Almost.
Watching Jeremy's review is perfect to sit back, relax and grab some snacks
A 6 minute snack
They should’ve just made Dakota’s character Pita with a single name drop at the end. Man on fire
What are you on about. This last film was all about a small town and its local problems
@@BuriedDutchman In Italy!!!! Hardly a local neighbourhood for an America.
@@ukmediawarrior
..
Having Cinematography this great for an equalizer movie feels so out of left field but I loved it
I really enjoyed it too. I initially wanted an epic final battle with the boss but his humiliation was a better conclusion.
Lacked energy and pacing was off imo didn't enjoy it.
Agreed pacing was totally off on this one. Denzel's acting saves it, but definitely the least of the 3
The best thing about this movie is that the main antagonist SUFFERS in his final moment! Not many movies ever did that except The Equalizer series. It felt sooo good watching that.
He is my favourite actor ❤️
Tried to see this last night but unfortunately, the sound was distorted and out-of-sync. We only watched the opening sequence, but man oh man, it was BRUTAL. In a good way. Can’t wait to actually see the full movie. 😆
This was boring compared the one and two, 60 percent of the time they were speaking some other language, there was very less action involved felt very dull for a equalizer movie
Agreed boring
That build up scene in the beginning was just perfection, he would make the grim reaper scared. Denzel showed he still got it
Imagine Equalizer × John Wick × Nobody
x Taken
Tyler Rake from Extraction 😳
Watched it on Tuesday during discount day and the small theater wasn’t packed but half of it was and Denzel had everyone in the theater like “ooooo” when ever he had a great comeback .
I can't believe we live in a world where Jeremy doesn't review Star Wars
I’m normally really good at figuring out the endings of movies almost right from the beginning. I guess because Dakota Fanning’s character never made an appearance let alone was discussed in the first movie so her being the daughter of the lady who died in the second movie blew my mind, lol. I loved the slow pace of the movie. Italy is breathtakingly beautiful so I was super invested right from the start.
I refuse to believe Denzel is 68. Let's just all agree he is now and forever, 43, and call it good.
There, it's settled.
Liam to Denzel. "Carry on my 'ex old-assassin comes back for revenge' movies"
First!
A hour without a skull crackin’ is an odd choice, but Denzel is a bad ass and a joy to watch doing anything.
