- This is a Harley 4 Speed Ratchet Top shifter. This will fit 1936 to 1978 Harley 4 speed transmissions. It has the Neutral indicator switch that only came on the 1965 to 1978 bikes. This has been fully rebuilt and you should watch the video I made to see exactly what I did. You get to see how good it shifts. You can also watch my other videos at "Rap's Garage Shop" on UA-cam. If you have any questions, please let me know.
Cool. Nice to see how simple that is. I just got a ratchet top for my shovel to go in place of the cowpie. Makes me feel real good about it now.
Awesome. If you need any help please reach out. Thanks for watching
Thanks SO much for this video. Just what I needed after broke some teeth off the larger gear with the square hole in it.
One tip though. Remove the spring retainer plate from the back of the shift dogs and remove them.
Fit it to the shaft then re insert the dogs and springs and retainer plate after it's all on the shaft. Much easier :)
Thank you. I'll give that a try next time I rebuild one. Thx for watching!!
Great video! Great editing!! I don’t have the patience for all the fumbling for tools and walking around on some of the other people’s videos. 👍👍
@@ronaldfleming9104 yes I totally agree! I make my videos the way I want to view a video. Just give me the information I need and let’s move on. Thank you for watching and please subscribe if you haven’t.
Thx. man. that's what I wanted to see.
The wife says that we have the same accent. From the same area of the U.S. I guess. Thx. again. Subscribed.
Glad I could help! Thanks for watching

That's not fair man! That's what I'm having trouble with is getting that drum back together with those dogs and you edited it right out, I guess it's on to pacific Mike
See the 50 minute mark of this video.

Great video! 👍👍One thing though...I don't think you need loctite on the shaft retaining pin because the cover sits on the case and the pin is flush and can not come out agaist the case.
You’re not wrong but I use it on everything on my HD because of all the vibration. The thread locker is cheap and it doesn’t cause me any headache if I’m using the blue stuff.
Thank you for watching.
Great video. Thanks for taking the time to post!

Great job explaining thanks
I glad it helped and thank you for watching! Please subscribe, if you haven't.
Thank you very much very helpful 👍👍👍👍👍😎😎😎😎😎
Thank you for watching
For jockey shift is it best to install with or without the cover on? Since the cover has grooves for foot shift I’m curious if it would be fine installing the jockey arm over it anyways
The only way I’ve ever seen the jockey shift arm installed is with the cover on. Thank you for watching and please don’t forget to like and subscribe.
Great info! What gear is the shifter cam/drum in when you put the pawl carrier on? Thanks!
I don’t remember but I don’t think it matters. This information comes straight out of the Harley manual. You can easily find it online. If you need any other help, please reach out. Please don’t forget to like and subscribe if you haven’t.
😊👍🏍️
I am looking for a 49 FX ratchet top if you have a rebuilt one what would the cost B
Sorry I don’t have any for sale
Can you help me with an issue with my 1974 FL? The heel and toe shifter almost hits the floor board before the bike shifts. There isn't any slop in the linkage going to the ratchet top.
Email me your phone number to hdrap_1999@yahoo.com It's simpler to talk over the phone then me type it all out.
How much to rebuild one if i send it to ya
Thank you for asking but I don't have time to work on my own stuff to be taking on work. I'm sure that you could do it yourself after watching this video. Thank you for watching.
Where you located? I need a rebuild or core swap. Thanks.
Sorry, this one was sold right after I did the video.
@@Rapsgarage cool I can probably do it myself if I could pick your brain. A kid pulled out on me back in 08. Broke my back. Rebuilt the entire bike thought the trans would be ok. Got the inner off was hoping I could repair in the bike. The abrupt stop did something. The dust cover is a little loose and it shifts rough. If you could give me a contact I would love to donate for your expertise. Thanks man. Live life behind bars! I have a72 FLH that was my birth year. I’m a fireman. My partner brother passed and they gave me the bike I would love to share some history. It’s like one of my children. It’s all brand new but ratty AF! Good bless.
@@atlasfiresafety6718 I’m not exactly sure what you’re talking about. It would be easier if you sent me your phone number so I can ask a few questions. hdrap_1999@yahoo.com.
