No light show, back up dancers, auto tune, computer generated lasers, costume changes or props. Just a fantastic artist performing for the pure joy of it- how refreshing.
So very true.
Exactly.
Yes! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

It's possible to enjoy all kinds of performances without sneering at others.
No voice can do better but Paul's lovely voice! Not even Art's. With all respects
No words. Just deep gratitude for your music, accompanying me throughout my life, comforting, holding and loving me with all the gentle power and grace that emanates from your words and melodies. You have no idea how much the gift of your sacred presence in my life through your music has meant to me. What a soul! Namaste Paul Simon. Thank you, thank you, thank you for your authentic presence in this world.
Special talent to write a song at 20 that sounds good when you are 80.
I couldn't agree more. So true
Exactly
Amen
Geniuses.
Ones in a generation.
( Maybe angels in disguise )
Magical songs stay magical.
The best singer-songwriter to ever exist. We will never see another one like Paul. This is as good as music gets.
Paul Simon, old and frail these days, is still amazing. And the author of those great songs.
Guy is still rocking
Still his guitar and this amazing song sound as brand new. Thank you lots Mr. Paul Simon. For the joy, Your voice always awesome.
My whole life from high school to being 68 passes before me.
Yes.
I know what you mean Iwas thinking the same thing.
Even a couple more years than that for me.
I'm 70 years old, I'm with you brother I have a tear in my eye. Don't know what you got till it's gone, Good memories though
Same.
You're watching a master at his craft and once this legend is gone we'll never have anything like him again.
Fortunate to have listened to these two legends in my lifetime. Life is so enriched

But what about Snoop Doggy dog?😮
Bravo
🥰 Thank you Paul for beeing, playing and singing. V&Z from Czechia
I’ve listened to this song since he first released it. And it’s still growing on me 60 years later. That’s what art is about.
Thank you, Paul Simon, for all the moments of joy and peace of mind you have created and given to the world. It means more than you can imagine.
To have been alive and attuned to the music of Paul Simon, Joni Mitchell, Neil Young, Dylan, and so many others is a special privilege. We will lose some of them quite soon but their songs and voices will outlast the wretched culture we've become.
We've always been a wretched culture...
@@paulluchter137 Culture is something that is always changing. I believe what you're referring to is HUMANS. And yes, we have always been horrible. Sometimes, though, one may encounter incredible humans and you'll KNOW they are/were the very best of humanity... because you will always remember them. Paul is one of those humans.
What is amazing is he makes no attempt to sing the song the way he did originally. Instead he uses the ravages of age that time has left on his voice to give us a beautiful, unique rendition full of the wisdon, love and pain of life. It’s beautiful. Definitely a touch of the divine.
I think his voice is astonishingly youthful, and has barely changed in the last few decades.
Initially I was disappointed that he didn't sound like he once did, but than I read your comment and you're absolutely right.
I'm so glad Paul's voice relaxed into it after the first few bars: so he as he wanted to could deliver his heart and soul felt performance. See and hear Joni Mitchell likewise, at the same Newport Festival.
You are absolutely correct!

For someone to walk onstage, play guitar & sing & hold a crowd at 80 years old is a victory!
He has given so so much to all of us.He has touched us all with his music and his words.Any of us who were listening that is.Thank you Paul Simon.
"Any of us who were listening that is." ...I see what you did there (:
Let's also not forget Art Garfunkel, both of them were great.
I was fortunate to see him and Bob Dylan in concert on a tour in 96 I think.

HERE HERE.
He should receive the Nobel prize for poetry. A genius.
Paul was, indeed, a genius. He was the Emily Dickenson of our green age.
Paul Simon's 81 but he's still got it!!!!!!!!!!!!
He does, his hands are gold. His voice is something he's learning to use again. But his hands...
@@lorenmorgan1931 Such an underrated guitarist.
Wow 81!
@@amysharma4972 He’s turning 83 this year.
A national treasure.
International too!
Right there is what a living legend looks and sounds like!
Only 1 Paul Simon, one of the greatest songwriters & musicians of all time, Total Respect from UK 🇬🇧🇺🇸
Amen.
I agree. Total respect from Spain.
@@roncaruso931 Goes without saying no one else comes anywhere near the Beatles or ever will but I do totally respect Paul Simon's songwriting and contribution to the world of music, I meant musician in the general sense as opposed to technical virtuoso's such as David Gilmour etc
Uk plus f and c.
@@druidswillow1052 I think Stevie Wonder was a great musician, he played son many instruments
Once upon a time there were lyrics and poetry and it makes me sad to think we might never say the likes of Paul Simon again. Genius seldom repeats itself.
"We"...I agree we may not. The world may..at some point if it can get it's act together and survive..statistically it'll possibly happen again. Just, not likely in my lifetime but at least I had it once and thankfully recordings to live it over and over. It's a sad sweetness every time we think of it as once upon a time isn't it!
You obviously haven’t heard WAP.
there have been better writers, both before and after him. Townes Van Zandt for one. A dozen or so country guys, and John Moreland currently. Open your ears.
It was a joke. Perhaps that song in contrast to this one is an example of how far we’ve fell in terms of music quality:/

ZEITGEIST:
The defining spirit or mood of a particular period of history.
Every epoch has some.
I think we are prone to nostalgia.
Paul was the hero of my college years, his lyrics opening doors in my mind, opening my eyes to the conditions of the American people and the lives we lived back then. He is my hero still, all these years later. Paul Simon has a great soul and a tender heart.
Yes, he is mine too and always managed to catch him when he comes down to Australia. He epitomises the lost America of kindness and gentility as well as magnamity unlike the prevailing ethos in that country of causing wars, mayhem and death.
@@hangtuah888 Exactly right. My favorite is "A Dangling Conversation." Poetry.
@@robertodebeers2551 he has catchy tune & others with Deep meanings
On his tombstone will be etched..."the Sound of Silence."
I'm crying just thinking about it.
It’s one of the songs I’ve chosen for my funeral, sounds morbid I know but I don’t want anyone else choosing the music which I want…
He never sings a song without getting inside it and loving it.
yes yes yes AND he never sings this song the same wsy twice. He never did.
@@Pwd-advocate It’d be nicer to hear it done more like the original.
This song will never grow old, remains forever in human beings.
Wow! At 80 Paul is undiminished. That was a superlative performance.
Man that gave me chills. His voice has his unmistakeable quality, albeit aged. Yet not without a power undimmed by age.
it's such a big difference compared with Hyde park concert 4 yours later; covid'nightmare has olded and nearly killed old people and even youngest;-((
A genius at work
Just Paul, his guitar and his voice... this is how it is done kids. No big production show, just pure talent.
But it seems he’s speaking the song, not singing it. Is that from aging?
@@janeruthraphael4644still better than speaking words like rappers, and auto tune singers!!
@janeruthraphael4644 have you not heard the original? 😂
Best Song Ever
all the legends are now ageing....with no one to replace them....no one.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Paul keeping that lost art of entertainment alive...God Bless him.
Wonderful guitar playing for an 80 year old too...
Still a master finger-picker after all these years!
What a treat to hear Paul Simon play again. Thank you Amy!!
I am always surprised at what an accomplished guitarist Simon is. At age 82!
like Joni's "Both Sides Now,'' this may be my favorite performance of the song...
I can't believe Paul Simon is 80 years and still plays and sings so beautifully. And he's still married to Edie Brickell. His worth is $200 million. I'm happy to read all this good news about him. He deserves all the success and happiness. I've enjoyed the music of Simon & Garfunkel since their first albums in the 1960s.
💯💯💯👏👏👏

Legend
Paul sounds great. He's worth way more than 200 million, but aren't we all?
@@rthib1960 I'm not aware of any human being whose real value is higher than a silver coin
Congratulations to your Grammy nomination for Seven Psalms ❤️!
What a festival in 2022. Simon and Mitchell... two songwriters and acoustic guitarists for the ages.
Legend
Timeless. Always thought his guitar playing was underrated.
Beyond underrated. It always amazed me why he wasn't considered a " acoustic" guitar God. I know George Harrison admired his playing. Be safe fellow music man.
Scarborough Fair is a fine example of Paul’s underrated guitar skills.
In the world of musicians, he is very well respected as a great guitarist.
Mrs Robinson. Great opening riff and great fills throughout. Love ‘At The Zoo’! Hamsters turn on frequently.
He is definitely one of the best acoustic guitarists.
It’s beautiful
Out of all the song writers, he wrote much more of my favourite songs. What a musical icon, what a legend !
This epic song is more important now than ever. Paul Simon, you are a gift to humankind.
Danke💞
80 years old and sounds the exact same as when he wrote it. Mental
The world would not be the same without this song. Brilliant and forever the best melody ever! Thanks Paul and Art! This song will never die!
Great song, no doubt, but ? no fucking balls Paul Simon says dr Mengele Fauchi shiting in their vaccines and cia bioweapons covid 19
Top 3 45 record I played as a young kid
And the flip side was homeward bound
Quiet genius. Seasoned delivery.
Grateful reception. This song will be relevant long after we are not.
Relish. Savor. Share...
Many moons ago Paul was coaching my sons baseball team, his own son Gabriel was also on the team. As a Dutchman the first time we met i told him " yeah I know who you are, you played for the Beatles" we became friends. I neve met a nicer gentleman GENTLE MAN in my life. I treasure the years i knew Paul. A national treasure indeed.
Just a brilliant songwriter.
it couldn't be more beautiful ,, lyrics written 60 odd years ago as a young man...................; the tune , voice & timing now sung by an elderly troubadour a whole lifetime producing the most beautiful melody's thank you Mr Simon
A tremendous songwriter.
He seems just overwhelmed by grief in this video.
Don't think he enjoys performing this particular song.
My favorite song as a kid. Never realized at the time that music would not get any better. Nothing exceeds this.
Hello Caren how are you doing
Scientifically speaking, brains tend to 'freeze' around songs they love at about 11-14 years old. This effect fades slowly til the late 20s, after which most songs don't create near the same emotional effect of songs from previous decades. So the music of today is equally good. Your 'fossilized' brain just can't hear these songs objectively. Also, this particular rendition of Sound of Silence is pathetic. He'd barely get applause at a rural open mic. But that's a topic for another day....
Nathan, tell me why my 11-year-old daughter, a music loving piano player of some considerable talent, has zoomed in on old acts and finds nothing to like in modern pop music.
Great song but ruined by this rendition Paul is well out of tune, he has reached well past retirement age
His fragility makes the impact of this song even more significant
80 years old. But it's still Paul Simon in all his brilliance. This performance was just breathtaking.
Incredible writer, composer, musician. Off the charts, great.
Unique in every way. People this intelligent don't come around often. Unbelievable talent.

The beauty of life encapsulated in a soul stirring performance. What a gem.
This is what music is to sound like. No electronic crap or modern technology involved. This is Real! Today's music is a joke compare to this music. Paul Simon You Sir is what music is about! And should sound like. God Bless You. ❤️
Granny i hope you like alan walker hits

Wonderful, just wonderful. I love this guy, he may not be be your typical fungi but he remains true to himself, even more so at the age of 82. God bless ya Paul.
So very touching. We 're all getting older. In some strange ways, makes me thinking of the late Chet Baker.....
Those words.. sound of silence... still amazes after all the years. So much meaning and content in those three words.
Wow paul simon im bieng a fan of all the years.. i love you..❤❤❤❤
Paul looks great at 80 years old! Amazing!
i love Simon Sound
Hi Paul Simon immer noch unschlagbar 😢👏👏
The one and only. The ultimate songwriter and performer. One of the greatest musicians ever.
He wrote things that will likely live forever and stand the test of time.
Paul Simon is the absolute MASTER of songwriting, and his guitar playing is AWESOME. There is no one who wrote like he did, and he didn't need one or two themes like "war" or the "civil rights", he sang about everything and all of his songs have incredible meaning.... He is simply the MASTER. 💚💚
My Mom had all the S and G albums and my sisters and I cut our teeth to the Sound of Silence. Thank you Paul and Art! The Mortons
2:33 Paul gives it a little sauce and the crowd go nuts. You love to see it.
Brilliant!!
I have grown up with Paul Simon. Gosh. I was at the Central Park (New York City) concert. People were in trees listening. There just are not words to describe his amazing music and poetry. He truly has a magic.
Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel...
America's no. 1 singing duo.
Godbless them for all they gave us .
Thank you Artie and Paul.
Ahhhh... I don't think I'll ever know how not to love this person. I love to see him sing like this. It's like receiving happiness as a gift...🥺
funny how musics two smallest Men, Paul and Bob are quite possibly the largest of giants when measuring the impact they've had on decades of musicians, audiences and the history of what rock and roll has been since the mid 1960s...
Legends of massive proportion.
It's hard to imagine a childhood without these beautiful songs! The songs He wrote were so deep and intense, makes me sentimental! To get high, I don't smoke weed, I just listen to Simon and Garfunkel!
I love how everyone is quiet and listening. We don't want to miss a thing.
Legend of an artist! The reason I finger pick when playing my guitar is because I heard his songs as a kid,so I learned a bunch of his songs, took me a while, but so rewarding!!! Thanks for your music Mr Simon! 👌May it continue go live on and inspire young and old musicians and people with great taste in music for ever!!❤🇬🇧
One of the greatest songwriters and singers in this world. 👏👍❤️
Thank you Paul Simon. Thank you poster.
And the world stands still, time suspends, until the last chord. Music is magic
I first heard Paul sing this in England in the sixties. Then I heard Paul sing this in the eighties and 2000s. I'm so pleased to hear it again
This makes me proud to be a human.
The vision planted in my brain still remains after all these years.
Once he got his vocal relaxed the vocals were beautiful and perfect for Paul's age. Just beautiful
So polite, daisy
Yes! Absolutely beautiful.
80 years old and prob done this a million times...but he still feels it when he preforms. Amazing
Oh how you have inspired in my life
What a life!
Thank you sir for your wonderful gifts, may your voice echoes for generations to come, and your words never get silenced, Paul Simon is beacon to guide the lost souls if they listen close enough.
stirs the soul. thank you for sharing this. wonderful to hear paul simon reinterpret this song today with his mature voice... after first hearing it back in the 1960's. a song that lives within all these years.
OMG, still a great singer, my favorites folk singers, Simon &Garfunkel ❤❤❤
Legend... here it is...
A step back in time to 1964 when this song was released. At 10 years of age my whole life was ahead of me. Now most of it is behind me.
Since 1965 or so I have heard this song maybe a million times (more like a hundred thousand, I guess) from Mr. Simon (and others) in every version he has ever done. It has not gotten old yet.
What an artist, greetz from Indonesia!
A musical giant!
So true to our present times. Songs that voices never share.
Total respect from China
