He’s into it playing that Martin steel string bare-handed like he does. On a song like that, you scrape the skin off your right hand fingers and enjoy doing it.
Definitely not correct . Los Lobos claim credits for the song For the Myth of Fingerprints, which is one song of the Graceland album (don’t know if justified or not), not for the song Graceland itself.
This is a fantastic surprise to see Paul Simon singing this great, classic song with these wonderful artists, thank you so much for posting this! This is also a great quality video, thank you again! 🎸 Brad in Cleveland
You're right, I also think of Paul Simon as _the_ poet of our time. And _Graceland_ is one of my favorite songs of all time. And no, it's not because I'm an Elvis fan. Lol
Jerry is everywhere!! I just spent the weekend at RockyGrass in Lyons CO, saw him there a couple of times. When I snuck out of camp to catch Little Feat & Hot Tuna in Denver on Friday, Jerry was jamming with Little Feat.
I once saw Paul Simon in one of the most romantic situations - below Edinburgh castle one summer night where you could see the sun setting over the Firth of Forth if you looked over your shoulder. I am getting spine tingle just thinking of it - the music and atmosphere was very special. And then a couple of years ago in Hyde Park London. He played Sound of Silence solo as the darkness fell and I looked around to see 10000 people quiet as mice. I've recently come across the idea that there are three important elements that can enrich our ability to live wisely in an uncertain and threatening world. These are Awe (a sense of wonder and amazement at the beauty and complexity of our world, relationships to our loved ones and the miracle of being alive); Humility in recognising that we are only a small part of this wonder and then Gratitude for all we have and are able to experience. Somehow Paul's music seems to evoke all of these in me.
Pat is the name of a musician I knew long ago back in the 70's small world ...I do feel your comments are more then true!! ... I'm greatful to utube for having us all relive the best of times thru music.. This generstion has suffered more bc of the pandemic question is how can we best make it up to them ?? ...
He can still hit those highs easily! Can you tell me what was this recorded on? Tell me this wasn't recorded on a phone. If it was, I'm buying whatever model it is.
@@richkellner7429 I live in L.A. and drive a Ford f-'150 pickup and my husband and I just couldn't handle the high gas price to enjoy the drive to Newport. Even though we both have good jobs it just couldn't be done.
Paul Simon, what a shame? Whitening the whole experience. Like Shakira you will steal Cameroonian and South African music? Good white folks WERE like you. See how they try to change typical South African riffs... Shameless
This is definitely not bad at all, Mr. Simon! If I could sing half that good ... We all know that's not the same voice as 30 years ago. But I don't care, I just want you to be with us and play your music, your way.
I have to say, it makes me wonder. I know he's been very vocal about the fact that he doesn't enjoy performing anymore (and after 60+ years, he can't be blamed for that.) But it was a great performance and video.
Me too. I listened to Graceland and Rythm of the Saints all the time during the 80’s and 90’s on cassette while driving from home to college (5 hour drive). Today I can’t get enough of Nathaniel Rateliff’s (solo or with his band) music. What an incredible collaboration. Thanks for sharing.
"I have reason to believe" we all will be received in Graceland. I want to believe we will all be received in the land of Grace (I don't know if I believe it, but I want to believe, and I have reason to believe). Mr. Simon's lyrical choices are never accidental.
this was my favorite song in high school. changed my life. what a magnificent performance. i have chills just watching this, can’t imagine how the audience felt. paul simon is magic

82 years old!
I am getting a huge kick out of seeing Paul Simon, the Stones and Paul McCartney playing in 2022.All worth savoring one more time.
He still has it in him ❤️
Great!
Poet for our times. First saw him in 1968? ❤

Graceland Another Favorite.. 🌎 💙💜💚💛💖👍

That was an absolute classic! Great album and as good as it was, he actually topped it with Rhythm of the saints. Still sounds great.

I'm happy to see him, that he plays...but jealous not be there..
Be happy for those who were there. Without them, you wouldn't have seen this video!
MUGGED BY THE ANC
Where is Julio?
A lovely tune for which an uncredited Los Lobos composed the music. :(

Great to see him sing :) My most favorite poet and singer and artist!

Having the greatest national steel guitar player Jerry Douglas didnt hurt either!!
he is a bad ass for sure

Paul Simon's Album Graceland gave me respite in a period where my employer required super long hours away from my family. His music kept my sanity.
There Goes Rhymin' Simon...May He Never Leave, But If He Does...May We All Go With Him. Amen

I’m a huge Jerry Douglas fan; just wonderful to see him playing with Paul Simon
That was great ! Thank you for sharing .
OMG Paul’s amazing, sounds fantastic and looks really well. These lucky, lucky people to see him singing live again, I’m incredibly jealous 💕💕
My daughter was in the audience! She texted us: "omg I'm at a freaking Paul Simon concert!!!" We were so jealous!

Such a sad uplifting song. Paul once said this is the best song he’s ever written I’d couldn’t comprehend picking a favorite.

Is this the first time that Jerry Douglas has ever play with Simon? If so, what a great combo.
Nope, they've appeared together before, several times I believe.

Jerry has played with everyone
almost as rare as seeing Paul Simon is the guy playing the Les Paul Professional/Recording bass in the back ground.... COOL!
It’s like karaoke. Except instead of a recording there’s a live band, and every single person wants to hear the singer.
Every lyric.
Every rhythm.
Every tune.
