That core idea is what inspired me to make this video! I felt like some choices I made in bg3 would just break other games, but instead bg3 adapted to pretty much everything I decided to do. I never felt like I was being punished for going about a situation in a way the game didn’t intend. Such great game design!

If interested, there is a talk on yt of swen where he talks about their n+1 and even +2 design (or smth).Which was already used in d:os I think and surely d:os2. It's basically 'try to think of everything a player could think of and account for it,make the engine and systems theirselves to accomodte for it. And then add one or two ways extra as kind of failsaves for story progressing quests (or all main quests, don't remember it was a while ago :,) ". Obvi bg3 is a different ruleset since it's dnd licensed but part of the amazingness of the choices is the result of swen and his team just being gamers, loving making games that they themselves would want to play. And for example swen said that he didn't watch metrics about what areas were visited most or not ,or quests seen or not and that in combo with the great system based engine is the real magic (obvi story,va,graphics,... all as well). But i truly think that was how they were to accomplish this masterpiece, because the world is filled with quality content and banana diaglogue/consequence trees behind the scenes. It's also what is imho xD causing BG3 induced sleep depravation for many and/or replayability for others.

@@Kubidubi11oh yes! I put Jaheira and Minsc in my party once I started Act 3. I genuinely think they're the best companions to have roleplay wise when exploring Act 3 since they offer so much insight on different stuff. Bantering with Jaheira as a good-aligned Durge was super fun. Honestly, having the both of them when concluding Durge's personal quest made me enjoy the story all the more. Incredibly satisfying. I think RNG in games that don't handle negative outcomes well is what made people hate RNG in video games. BG3 doesn't give you a negative outcome per say, just a different one, and if all games did that with RNG I think people would be less likely to hate it! I love this game so... dang... much.

This games existence, makes me weap. Im 33 and for the last 15 years i assumed the gaming industry died. Died at thr game store, at the launchers at the fact that most games HAVE to have internet.
This game is perfect imo. The first 3 days i had it, i didnt know that my modem was off and i was playing like it wasnt.
I own the game. I own it outright. Theres no store. The company cares about the playera feedback and roles out what they need when asked.
This game was thrown into the face of people who have never ever thought of playing games of this genre, now loving it. Beought awareness to a genre that needs it and is totally underrated.
Its been a very long time since people got good games.(yes i know there are a few that are absolute gems, i mean, the 2 new zeldas are a chefs kiss, but i cant bring myself to own a console to play 1 or 2 games).
Its been far to long that ive felt like i bought a game from a company that gives a fuck whether i enjoy myself or not.
This game is perfection incarnate. Its got something for everyone.
God damn, its got a fucking STORY!

The hardest thing I had to deal with with bg3 at the beginning, which is why I have so many hours with so little to show, is because I was trapped in a "minmax" mindset for so long. The omaythrough I've been streaming on youtube is the one where I said fuck that! I want to play ME! I rerolled thr companions I wanted to play with, not experience a story with. I wanna be a lonely bard that just wanted to make her way to fame in baldurs gate but as soon as she arrived in the city, she was kidnapped. This game is absolutely phenomenal. I also had to stop save acumming and accept that some things cannot change. I still save often before what I assume are pivotal moments. Now we can customize the hirelings and my next pkaythrough im gonna make my favorite team of people lmao!

Definitely the most d&d experience I’ve ever gotten out of a video game and D&D is the greatest RPG of all time (and always will be . I mean the freedom is second to none ) . Everything from the cutscenes , the narrator , the voice acting , the mechanics , the freedom and so much more just makes this game incredible . This is what rpgs are supposed to be. At the apex, although I lived in a small town of 60k people, we were over 30 people, any evening of the week you could find 2 groups up to 7 people each playing. We had full custom settings as big as FR, custom rulesets... it was glorious.

I played 2nd Ed AD&D in the late 80s, in the time of retro RPGs...The Valley, lol. At that time this was unimaginable. I played Neverwinter around 2019/20. This game is a massive upgrade in terms of role playing experience. I love it.

This game does not allow you to persuade through every single combat encounter... no matter what you do you have to kill the avatar of myrkul... probably you finished the game just once.
Chaotic good is the best type of character for first playthrough because it allows you to expirence the most of content that game can offer and it masks all illusions of choice that are obvious when you finish the game as an evil character (especially in act 2). Choosing evil character is just choosing less content because many important characters dies and their questlines are blocked. There is no separated evil path and evil character has to beat the same bosses and visit the same locations as a good character. On top of that no ending is blocked depending on your decisions and you still can choose to be hero at the end even if you was extremely evil through the whole game.

I had to pinch myself when i realised your channel is so small. The quality of the video is on par with what I see from content creators with over a million times your subs.
I've only (only... lol) gotten to play about 80 hours of this game so far, but the sheer breadth of this game has astonished me. There is SO MUCH to do, and so many different ways to do each thing, that I ended up making a completely different character to play through Act 1 again before I'd even finished it. This is the first game that has sucked me in and made me realize that I'd just spent an entire day playing without even noting the passage of time since World of Warcraft back in 2007. Truly a masterpiece.

Very great video! I agree so much, the people who made this game just had the biggest goal to make a FUN game and that is because they know what's it like to play D&D with real people, what they need to have a fun session. Every good DD master knows that the most important thing to let people have their freedom and joke around in the same time as they are able to connect with a well build world and deep characters. I can't emphasize enough how important it was that they got great writers for all those companions, because it helps so much to connect to the fantasy world if you have characters that grabs your hand and take you seriously as a player.
Every time you start a game the player asks: why should I care about you. And baldur's gate3 response will always be: because I care about you. And people respect and enjoy that.

To me, Baldurs Gate 3 is the culmination of a ton of great RPG games made over the last 30 years. Be it old masterpieces like "Planetside: Torment" or "Arcanum: Of Clockworks and Magic", more Action based RPGs like Dragon Age or even cult-classics like Fallout New Vegas, Larian took all the lessons learned by those games and more and put it into Baldur's Gate 3.
I HOPE that it raises the standard for RPGs, because glorified loot-shooters like Starfield don't even deserve the title "RPG".
Larian treats you like a grown-up an respect your intelligence, and this, created one of the most immersive RPGs of all times. And I already know when Divinity: Original Sin 3 or Baldur's Gate 4 come out 5-10 years from now, they will be even better.

Great video! DOS2 is also one of my favorite games of all time, and so I was looking forward BG3. Amazing job done by the team, once again. By the endgame I was so invested in the characters that some stories made me emotional. I've also played DnD for a while, so the see how well they made this adaption to the game was great. Seeing spells and skills we use on the tabletop translated to animated action was great. My literal only complain about BG3 is the epilogue, I felt it was rushed. Even so, 10/10 game.

I would go a couple steps forward and complain about the lack of an ability to make turn based mode automatically trigger on trap detection (is a pain)(from a v sad necromancer who has been fucked over by "Careful a tra- BOOM" 5 too many times), as well as the issues I have with being unable to pass off ability checks to other characters in your party (My face warlock should not have to stand there trying to figure out what this magical artefact is with my +3 to arcana while Gale with a +9 is twiddling his thumbs behind me, you just know he's ready to infodump about the fortnight he spent hyperfixating and researching this exact type of blue pebble.)
I just feel like it would help give the idea that dnd is a party game, because at the moment it's like, "Here is the hero of the forgotten realms... and their 3 lackeys" if you could press a button and wave your hand to the big stone door as you side step to let Karlach step forward and crack her knucles with a smile so she can roll her athletics, or have shadowheart roll her religion and have the camera pan over to her and tell you what this idol to whomever means, or have astarion step forward and lockpick something and then bow a bit in that way you never know if he's being sarcastic or actually flirty to let you through? it would bolster the feeling that you are a team so much more
Obviously, there are times when this wouldn't make sense, but in those times, it does, it is sorely missed. As it stands now they are entirely static behind you unless they have preprogrammed interjections that are important to their story, or they will talk in an aside that somehow the person right in front of us doesn't react to. I feel like I'm walking around with ghosts that only appear in combat (or to get hurt by traps grrr) and when someone does address them in convo it's like "wait you can see them too!?"
Still a fucking amazing game and the only game that can consistently hold my attention in single player without even background noise on my second monitor (although act 3 can get a bit overwhelming with all the things that happen at once so i had to take a break for a while)

    Playing BG 1&2 today would probably be disappointing for new players and rightly so;
You have to look at them as the foundation for the massive house that released in 2023.
Dragon Age Origins, Mass Effect and Divinity also laid bricks on top of these foundations.
As a veteran of the CRPG genre, I'm overjoyed to see this genre getting the public recognition it always deserved.

While it's my favourite game of all time. it's hardly a masterpiece. The UI is litteraly the worst I've ever seen. Why do your action bars reset every time you throw or drop your weapon? Then there's the rediculous amount horniness is so uncomfortable, and not to mention unfulfilling. A 1$ R rated dating Sim on steam handles relationships better. In BG3 everyone just instantly wants to F you at every time. Then there's random timed things that they give you no idea you could miss. Long rest after you discover the Inn and it burns down. Long rest after you enter the grove and the harpies kill the kid. Long rest after Roland leaves last light and turns into a shade with no way to save him. 99% of the time larien shows you that you can long rest as much as you want... untill you can't. And there's much more you could point out. My point is when you love something calling it a masterpiece doesn't help it improve. It will never get better as long as it's considered flawless.

The thing about this game "raising the standards" of the industry overall, is that if most AAA studios attempt to make similar games of such quality, those attempts will likely come at the expense of the workers who create them. I agree with your assessment: BG3 is one of if not THE best games I've ever played. If I could exchange its existence to improve the working conditions of the people who made it, I would instantly. Jim Sterling has made a few videos recently that elucidate this point, and I'd recommend checking them out.

My only issue is I'm sure I'll just use the same strat I used in most fights so I assume they will go pretty much the same way. I also think that there should be a companion of each class. I know you can just use a hireling, which is what I did, but they can't use tadpole powers. As for shadowheart I think we all were trying to mack on her, I even gave her her favorite flower and still never did get to bed her.

I can relate, but i have not finished the game yet, I am only 20h into act 1. But that is enough time for me to judge the game, and i play a lot of rpg games. The only game in recent time that i have played that gives me this level of "i want to play more, explore more" was TWC 3 when it came out. I have close to 300h in TWC 3 (including the expansions).
I also enjoy Skyrim, fallout games, dragon age series, mass effect so on so on... But BG3 and TWC 3 are masterpieces, both release as full games, with hours upon hours of great story telling and worlds to explore. BG3 the first game in ages where i actually hoped for announcement of expansions. I get to play about 2 hours a day, after work, after everything that i need to do after work.. before i need to go to sleep .But for the first time in years, i stay up way to late to play. I even enjoy to go through NPC dialogs, get to know the characters.
I also play starfield, and enjoy it, its a great bethesda game, and yes its a totaly different game compared with BG3, so no need for a "is this better than that". but i have set it aside for now, i bought BG3 just this weekend, so yes i was locked in my apartment the whooole weekend playing BG3.

Agreed 100%. I had also a pleasure of playing BG1 and BG2 soon after its release, so I can 100% say that BG3 is a 100% successor of old games. Sadly, the level that BG1 and BG2 achieved was NEVER repeated, until BG3.
BG3 will surely inspire many new games, but there is a high chance, but none of them will be as good. Still, we got enjoyable games like Icewind Dale or Neverwinter Night, but... BG is just on another level across the board.
