I can see all this from my house on the edge of the town of leek seen in the distance. all this was my playground growing up and camping up there well into my 50s. Great vid.. The derelict cottage was a game keepers house.
Great video, loved the panoramic views from the top presumably taken from a drone. Also excellent mood music gave it an air of mystery. Very interesting video 👍.
Thanks so much for watching! Believe it or not, we actually didn't use a drone for this video at all. Just our Insta360 camera on a very long pole for the views you describe 😁 Glad you enjoyed the Roaches 👍
Some most excellent filming here. You two are very good. I'm from Buxton originally, but have never been over Hen Cloud or The Roaches. Many thanks for doing this.
What a place! I have never been there and didn't know how good it was. I am now going to plan to climb that. Thanks for the Video. Good video btw, good shots, nice music too! Well done once again. 👍👍👋👋👋
You sparked good memories from my early years living in the North of Stoke-on-Trent - I used to ride out to the Roaches quite often on my bike - thank you very much for showing them. PS the "hygge" on the headscarf means "cosy/warm" (near enough) in Danish (live in Denmark now and "hygge" and "hyggeligt" is very much a "thing" here).
Well done again guys a favourite place of ours some long forgotten memories here some not alaways ones to be proud of from the riotous days of the 70s climbing scene.
Great video, I stayed in Leek for a couple of nights last year, my mate had told me to visit The Roaches. We stopped off and my wife decided to go up the steps near Don Whillans Memorial Hut, where the steep steps up are, well I started up not realising how hard and steep it was but it was more dangerous for me to go back down than it was difficult to continue up as I have mobility issues and am registered disabled, it wasn’t until we got up there we found the easy route so made our way down that way. Got some photos but it was way too windy for my lightweight tripod so I’ll definitely be going back soon. P.S. we were right at the hut, so near we could look through the windows, you can, or could, stay in it and this was only last year. They do a lot of climbing teaching there too, we seen some kids being taught there, unfortunately my climbing days are long gone though
Thank you so much! And thank you for the compliment we didn't use the drone, all of the "drone" shots were from our insta360 camera! ☺️ Does a great job of mimicking a drone 👌
@@HayandKyle ok Thats cool, is looks very Much what I can make with my Marvic mini drone. Looking foreward to more adventure s from your Channel soon.Atb Søren
Brilliant vlog, thank you for sharing it, stunning scenery, loved the "bottomless pool"😅 the abandoned house looks interesting too, loved everything about your video, would've been lovely to see a real life wallaby🤗❤️❤️❤️💚xxxxx loved your "blooper"😅😍 xx
There's a really good little cafe off the road at the bottom with great views. I think it's on a farm. There's also a honesty policy parking field where you throw your money into the top of a small car to pay, £2 I think? We struggled to park in the proper spaces so it's well worth doing as they give out alot of parking tickets for careless parking.
Great vlog you two, you are both so comfortable in front of the camera, it's refreshing to see. We look forward to your next vlog, as these are what we are using, as our go to guides, to help us plan our trip to the Peaks in 2023, thank you muchily.
@@HayandKyle No problem, having only moved to the Peak District just over 8 months ago, these videos are a great showcase of what I have yet to explore.
Fantastic video. Loved the cottage, what a view from the window 😍 A nice armchair and a log fire - perfect! 👌 Love the roaches, lucky enough to have climbed there and walked a few times. Really interesting facts about Peat and Don Whillans Hut. 😊 Enjoyed the video. Hope you're having a great week. 😊👍 Tanny
hi guys great vid again the roaches are epic, if you do a bit of research google satellite etc there is a ww2 wreck of a tank on the moors across the main road that runs in front of ramshaw rocks, i found it by seeing another uploaders vid👍
The whole of that area used to be a post war live firing range, the Sherman put there as target, as evidenced by the multiple armour oiercing round scars on its body. Couple of fighters hit The Roaches during WW2. Just along from the rocks is Merryton Low where, in 1942, a Canadian crewed Stirling just clipped the top of the hill. The crew, all but one I believe, now lie in the cemetery above Buxton.
That was a really great video! Can't believe the stunning views from the top! Great commentary, great music, great shots of the area! It gives a good insight as to what you can see and do up there! Well done! 🤗❤❤❤
👍😁 Great video you two as always A go to go place for me are the Roaches and ramshaw rocks with the added bonus of the ancient woodlands and Luds church if you fancy a longer day.. Nice to see they are segragateing sections due to Ware and tare over the years and given time will look stunning once again. Great piece about the abandoned farmhouse, the climbers hut and Doxey pool 👍 Lovley informative video 😁 And yes, on a clear day you Can see the Snowdonia range.. 🏞️ Love the rock formations in and around the area. A great place to visit anytime of the year. But I would say arrive early for parking.. Look forward to your next video 😁👍
Thanks for the lovely feedback Mike ☺️ glad you enjoyed it! We have another one lined up for charity for our next video ☺️ 👌 hoping next weekend will hold out for good weather 🤞
Another great video (not just because of the shout out 😂 thank you by the way). Despite visiting the Roaches so many times for climbing and walking I have never actually been to the abandoned cottage, one to check out next time I head over. Lets get some plans to go climbing soon 👍
"England's green and pleasant land" indeed! What a treat your videos are! In Ontario in February I haven't seen a green field in months. Maybe a field of winter wheat back before the snow came. There's quite an elegant ruin near here called The Corran, with of course its own set of stories and legends, right at the start of a hike on the Niagara Escarpment. Come and hike here someday.
Great video guys (love the leggings Hayley, the totally awesome 😊) I’ve driven past the roaches sooooo many times on my way to other Peak District hikes. Have been meaning to stop for ages….just need to catch a day when it isn’t covered in mist!
Thanks Sarah! Kyle got them as a present about 8 years ago! 😄 Definitely would recommend it, the views are incredible! 👌☺️ The day started out in most and then ended in lovely sunshine ☺️
As always a great video, always love what you two get up to, thank you! Did you know that if you follow the ridge away from from the Leek/Buxton road you will eventually come to Hanging Stone, not used for hangings apparently, it just overhangs a ridge and overlooks the Swythamley Estate. There’s a plaque near the base with some very interesting history and a dedication, if my memory is correct, to a brother and a dog. Definitely worth checking out!
This bought back some good memories of when we went a few months ago. Never saw the abandoned house or the hut so that was nice to see. Also never knew about the wallabees but we were aware of the mermaid myth, think her name was greenteeth or something? Very interesting, thank you 👍😉
Ahhh glad we could bring back some good memories! 😌👌 Means you will have to go back to see the house!! 😅 Ahh yeah Jenny greenteeth 🤣 glad she didn't drag us down the pool 😬 looking forward to seeing your Thorpe Cloud video 👍☺️ xx
Good video guys. As a landscape photographer I from Staffordshire I often go up to Doxy’s Pool area for a sunrise or sometimes to shoot the stars. It’s a great area for photography and in particular when there is fresh snow on the ground. Keep up the good work 👍
Thanks so much for your support Wayne, agreed its a cracking spot. We've not actually been for sunrise before so might need to add that to our ever growing list 😅 See you in the next one 👋
“If it’s bottomless, how is there a mermaid at the bottom?” 😂😂 What a beautiful video and amazing hiking and views! Loved when y’all put the camera in and immediately touched the bottom 😂
We were gutted 😅 Was hoping for some amazing underwater footage showing at least something 😅 Oh well, there's more pools that supposedly contain mermaids in the Peak District we can try. Thanks so much for watching and commenting, we appreciate it 🙏
Incredible you got to see them out at the Roaches! Hopefully they are still around 🤞 would be nice to see them in the wild, just had a look on the internet and the last photographed one was late 2000's so they might still be there! 🤞
