@@popescuracer Uncle used to live extremely close next to the bridge by Dauphin Island on a Pecan farm right side of road. Don’t know what it is now. But fished that area hard as a kid. I’ll take the Flounder ( fluke).
Great video. This video made me realize why I watch some fishing videos all the way through and why I get bored with others and cut them short. The reason I watch fishing videos is to better myself as a fisherman, so when I can learn from someone who is able to fish more than me, it helps me out a lot when they explain why they do certain things and not just show what they caught and my biggest take away from this video is make a plan but be willing to adapt and that is something I have struggled with in the past because I get too focused on what I set out to catch and get focused on why I can't catch the fish that are simply not bitting instead of deciding to just have a great time catching what is bitting even if it is pin fish. Sometimes, it is nice to just get back to the basics and catch whatever is bitting
I have truly enjoyed this video. You seemed so much more relaxed and focused than you have in some other videos. You included the specifics of your tackle, along with the amazing catches, just a great video. Thanks
I don’t crap on them. They can’t help but be Cat food. They fight real hard but that’s what is good about them. They average 10-12 pounds by me and easily upwards of 20-23 pounds. Four feet long. (Approx). Sometimes more. They’ll take your fingers off. Nothing but TEETH.
I get to come to the panhandle maybe twice a year from Tennessee, if I am lucky. Bring a mismatch of saltwater fishing gear collected over the last 35 years. Avid semi accomplished fisherman at home, trying every vacation, but always lacking know how to surf fish. Have been watching your content for the last 24 months or so and 4 weeks ago in Panama City, finally felt like for the first time that I had the knowledge to be a (novice) surf fisherman . Have in the past been doing it all wrong, walking out armpit deep casting a broomstick rod as far as possible, no practical knowledge, so wrong. Last time down took what I have learned from watching your videos and had the best surf fishing outings from the beach in front of our condo in my life. Caught Bonita, Bluefish, Lady fish, Whiting, I was so excited that after years that I had some practical local knowledge. I know that we are all looking for a higher purpose, but you with even the most minute and boring detail to someone who knows their craft (surf fishing) have taught me so much. Thank you for being the educator, who might feel like they aren't making a difference, but who provides so much knowledge. No detail is too insignificant, I have adjusted everything I do based upon watching you do what do on the beach. Don't underestimate what you are giving . Thank you , thank you , don't over think it or feel like you are not doing enough. Enjoy the fishing that got you started and tight lines from Tennessee.
Thank you for explaining all the equipment and setup as well as conditions, etc. This is why I watch. I live in Missouri and get to fish in Gulf Shores 1 or 2 weeks a year.
What an absolute stud! My PB blue is also on a slam shady, z-man version. This is you in your element. Walking the beach, adjusting to conditions, responding to unexpected opportunities, and every now and then stumbling upon giants. It’s why, in my opinion, the surf is just so much more fun than any other kind of fishing. You don’t catch as much as often, but those you do are far more meaningful and amazing. Congrats on the massive blue!
Outstanding video! I'm new to surf fishing and really appreciate the details. Don't fret too much about different types of content, just keep dancing with the one that brung ya.
This is the Bummy we all know and love, the pure joy when you caught that big blue made me excited along with you. I’m from NC and have never caught one that big, that was a monster.
Awesome. I recently returned from a trip to cape hatteras where we had a couple days catching blues in the 5-7 pound range, even landed one that was 9 pounds, my PB. There such a blast to catch. Good eating too if bled and iced immediately after catching.
When I started fishing as a little girl, at the point in NC, my Dad taught me how to fish for flounder. They would get into a blitz, and I would stay out of trouble, by flounder fishing. You have to have patience and I learned by holding my rod horizontally and low. 3 small jerks rest 1 and repeat. Loved catching them!
Amazing content. I have been surf fishing on the Atlantic side of Florida for many years I wish my water was that calm and clear. Your video gave me countless ideas to try over here. Also learned about the knot you used on your lure great content thank you and congrats on that tank of a blue.
Matt...Lots of fun watching with the blues! Here on the Outer Banks when the blues show up everything else leaves. Caught a speck the other day that had no tail at all where a bluefish caught the slowest fish in the school. Lots of one-legged sea gulls and ducks/geese in the area ala hungry blue fish. And you got it right, "choppers" are the big ones. Lost the tip of my ring finger to a "chopper" when I was much younger. Literally jumped up and took it off. Grandfather got it back and some duct tape and almost as good as new 70 years later.
Plans change fast when fishing the beach. Awesome video Matthew! Keep up the great content. Congrats on the new PB, that's definitely a fun size to catch but I've never got one like that on 20lb leader.
Now that’s the type video that I’ve been waiting on. Great info, great fishing and above all you looked like you were having more fun than I’ve seen in awhile. Great job and keep it coming.
Wonder if the big blues and big schools are the reason for fewer whiting this year? I normally load up on whiting and didn’t hook any on my trip this year.
I like the additional information. I originally found you as I was heading to Florida and wanted to know what bait to use for surf fishing and how to easily locate sand fleas. That video is what made me subscribe as I learned something from it that I could use on a short trip to Florida. So the longer content of why you are doing is very helpful. Sometimes on business I only have an afternoon to hit and area and the tips help me be more effective and successful in that little window of time I have. Thank you very much for that. Balancing the theory of what you are doing and then showing the doingness of it, makes it entertaining and useful.
I know you sell your beach fishing instruction in a package so if folks want this content they won't be paying for that but I do spectate this free content. Wish I could support you on the paid instruction. Your doing great either way. Love seeing the family vlogs too. Hang in there.
My husband and I really enjoy your videos. We see the value of maybe a little more imparting of your fishing wisdom, as you obviously know your stuff. But your regular delivery as you fish is so natural, we'd hate for you to be anything but what is wholly natural. So, we say, if it ain't broke.....just do what you love. Enjoy it or it won't be fun. Bad recipe, that! Your secret weapons are Courtney and Analiese! But we're Matthew Ismay fans too!!
Flounder might not have been biting but fishing is fishing!!! Those blues looked like they were a blast to catch! Thanks for the breakdown of your setup! It does help us all.
I personally really appreciate your educational intros. I’m always trying to learn something new so I find it helpful and useful!! Thank you as always for the content!!
That hurricane must have sent some big east coast Blues down south to the Gulf. Exciting when they show up. They do have sharp teeth but are good at breaking leaders with their rough tails as well.
When using lures like spoons or Clark spoon diamond jigs or even bucktails do you like fluro or mono? I heard fluro is better if you can afford it but what’s you’re opinion
I liked how you did it before. Like I said before I've learned a butt ton of ocean fishing on shore off shore spearfish great job Brant, Brad and you. When you take the girls with you and teach them how you do it was enough for me
Great Intro! Being a Swivel leader guy and one that uses Palomar knots, the Uni-to-Uni and loop knot tips made perfect sense for targeting flounder. Thanks!
I may know why we have so many bluefish..during the year of covid...many mid Atlantic states put blues on the on need of restoration and decreased the numbers of keeper from 10 to 3. Most folks I know don't keep blues but I'm thinking someone was I guess. Good job thinking ahead and deducing that with wind and season...flies would carry you away! 😂
Try a donkey rig. If you don't know what that is, it's two z man jig hooks and two z man swim baits. Tie two double loops on your main line. One at the bottom put a 3/8" oz. jig and on top a 1/4" oz jig. Then you can throw it farther and pop and craw it back. Now you have two jigs that look like one is following the other. I started this last year, thought of it because I do other fishing. Bass a crappie love it. Same concept, except you fish it slower. Sometimes you got to think outside the box. Also I have more luck at low tide, where I don't have a lot of waves. I fish topsail isle nc. Just try it you may be surprised.
We were down in early July, bumping paddle tails in the surf and we kept getting our tails bit off. Ideas? It was really annoying. Nice blue dude...we will be back soon.
Just saw a stingray swim by when you first hooked the big one.
Slamming content. This is it . Keep going.
Thanks for watching!
Forget the flounder.. big blues are much more fun to catch!

I remember this guy . It's been awhile. Early morning top water beach fishing.... Ring a bell ? Great to see the Bum I love
I have truly enjoyed this video. You seemed so much more relaxed and focused than you have in some other videos. You included the specifics of your tackle, along with the amazing catches, just a great video. Thanks
Thanks for watching!
Yes, sir! I'm glad you are sharing your rig setup and everything again, Matthew. 😎
People crap on blue's , but they are hands down, besides a huge Jack , the most combative beasts
The fishing starts around @9:50 ..
Perfect Matthew. Great video. Keep it up.
Thanks!
Great video. Being someone from the mountain west that likes to fish the gulf I appreciate the details of the introduction.

Fish on 🎣 big fish 🐟👍👍👍💪💪💪
I used to go night fishing out of sheepheads bay Bklyn and we would catch this size and bigger all night long. Good eating!
Love Blues. Fished Chesapeake Bay runs as a teenager in the 90s, they are such fast and strong fish!
The little nugget of info about deeper water by the beach cut out and point is the type of info that helps us catch fish! Great video Matthew!
This is your sign to keep shore fishing and putting out great fishing content. It’s why I watch
Hope them Carolina boys see this. Great catch Matt.
Love the longer intro and educational information! Please see previous comment about talking about your set ups… awesome!

I was right. Great catch. You could hear the purest of joy in your voice during that fight. Good stuff Beach Bum

Biggest blue I have seen on the gulf beaches! Great video!
Good vid Matt. Congrats on the PB blue. I'd spray pants above the waterline with permethrin tick repellant. Works like a charm.
Wow...the FLIES!!!!!🕷🕷🕷🕷🕷🕷🕷🕷🕷🕷
Thanks for noting the date and equipment details! Please keep it up!

Wow! Very informative video.
Glad you shared the jig head size situation. Happens to me more often than i care to admit.
Nice. Catch what is biting
Great info and insight. Thank you.
Giant Trevally , these fish eat seabirds as part of their diet. Nice catch , looks like a lot of fun.
Hi Matt... your videos is amazing! One day I will go to fishing on EUA. I will wait to fishing with you. Pardon my english. I'm from Brazil.
Good stuff,,thnx!😊

Super nice explanation and very informative vlog
That was awesome Matthew! The excitement in your voice shows you enjoyed fishing today and that's why most of us watch your content.

Great job and keep it coming.
Love the info. Keep it coming
About 7 years ago, the South Jersey land based had Big Blues come in between mid May to Mid June. It was so much fun.
Please do more of this! Love to hear the process 👌🏾
I totally enjoyed watching. I promise you, this is what most of us like. Great job. God bless you
Thanks for the educational flounder video lol.
Great information. Great video.
33" blue that is unreal HUGE never seen one like that
Great video! As someone who is trying to get better at fishing I’m here for those details
Great video breach bum ❤❤❤
Great info, thanks. I understand you might not always want to do that, but this was great. Nice work.
Wonder if the big blues and big schools are the reason for fewer whiting this year? I normally load up on whiting and didn’t hook any on my trip this year.
Great fishing as always
Way to go man. That’s a cape cod size bluefish right there.
You do very well. What a sporting day!
Great video love the fishing
Oh my. I just moved here, went to that beach last weekend. I thought it looked fishy. Good confirmation. Great video.

Perfect smoker size blue, we use a pineapple juice brine
Great video. Well done.
Man that water so clear and beautiful compared to Jacksonville Beach lol
That was awesome. I hope those monsters are coming my way to NE Florida.
Awesome video! Keep it up!
And there You go,,,outstanding video,,,🙏
Awesome. Keep up the good stuff!
Nice slab, used to catch big ones off Port Canaveral years back.
I'll be down again sept 1st for a week. Keep them big blues in the area. Ill be stopping by your store for some slim shadys
16:54 did you see that massive stingray swim by.
Saw a ton this day!
I know this was supposed to be a flounder video... but when life gives you blues... well you fish blues :)
Love the info please do more of this
I really do like the breakdowns of gear and conditions you’re looking for! Love it, awesome video!

Anyone else see the stingray around the 16:50 mark. You can see it swimming by about the same time he hooked the big blue

After salt water fishing would you rinse the salt out of your equipment?

Details were awesome! Thanks Matt! Love your content!
Thank you!
This is the content we are looking for. Tightlines!
Thick sliced bacon is the best bait for flounder
My dad just visited your store last week and got me the same exact shirt you are wearing!!! Hope to visit it myself one day!!!
Absolutely love this style content! Thank you! It reminds me of your older videos!
