- Offered by a new-to-me company, North Mountain Blade, this Chop 2 boasts a blade from San Mai steel, "SLD-Magic," as seen in some blade from other makers, such as Maxace. And, that button lock! Wow, takes a definite full press to close this one! Nicely done G10 with hidden frame and a hamon-style "temper line" differentiating the inner core from the outer skins. Check it out!

I found out by using a magnet after this review that the backspacer is not brass but steel made to look like brass. Just wanted to let my viewers know in case that's important to you....

Everything looks great besides the pocket clip.
Seems like a defect having to push the button like that imo. I can’t imagine that was intentional. And the hamon ends up with the lines because it’s covered in clay to harden the blade at 2 different hrc’s and after the clay is removed it leaves that pattern. Or at least that’s what I know about it.
Not a true hamon at this price, but still San Mai, and it's not difficult to close, so long as thumb is on top of button. I see it as a positive for preventing accidental closures... 👍

I can't find much information about SLD Magic accept that it is kind of like. D2. Do you know any where were I could find testing information?
Yes I've heard that similarity to D2 as well and I'm not sure of the benefit of sandwiching it between two other scales of steel. If I find out more I'll let you know, other than the fact that Maxace has used it on a few of their blades....
