      Were the watermelons the same
      * weight
      * rind thickness
      * diameter / girth
      * have the same internal liquid/solid/air space
      ???
      Those things will make the results appear different. I would have liked to see a few more examples to establish a better baseline for comparison.
      But, as always, a cool video.

    .223 velocity ratings on packaging are based on a 24" barrel, unlike the 5.56 which is based on a 20" barrel. So if firing. 223 thru a barrel less than 24", like 16" you are losing a significant amount of velocity compared to 5.56 . Just an FYI for everyone. The ratings on 223 boxes are thru a 223 chamber with a 24"bbl.

If the test medium and shot placement were exactly the same, it would be no contest. But I guess that's what makes these videos interesting - they're non-scientific so you never know.

    My top 2 are 556/223 and 243. 556 is #1 due to AR15 platform and price. With today's bullet technology, 556/223 is underrated when it comes to hunting any small game, on up to medium, thin skinned game, like whitetails 🦌.
    I've dropped many deer with 80 grain ttsx 243. Moving at around 3400 fps (pretty sure😅), high shoulder shots will drop them.
    I have been told that the monolithic bullets in 223 will do the same damage as 243, coming from a 16 inch AR15 barrel. Pick the right ammo for the game and go hunt.

    I shot a couple deer with 22-250 it killed them alright but back then they didn’t offer heavy duty game bullets in 22 caliber ( expanding solid copper bullets might work well) the thin jacketed varmint bullets literally vaporized and if you hit a shoulder or gut you’re going to loose that animal. If you want light recoil and can afford 2 rifles the 7mm 08 or 6.5 creedmore are real big game rifles and the 22s are awesome on coyotes and varmints!

    I actually chose the 223 over the 22-250, Mainly because I wanted to shoot it quite a bit, and I heard that barrel life in the 22-250 is considerably shorter than that of the barrel life of the 223. Also, the 223 round is much cheaper and in my area there are a lot more varieties than there are of 22-250.
    One thing anybody using either of these calibres needs to remember if they are using them to hunt deer is that you need the right type of bullet! There are many bullets out there for these two calibres that are designed for varmint hunting, where the bullet literally explodes on impact. These are not ideal for hunting deer which have much larger bodies than a coyote and require better penetration to achieve damage in the vitals. If I was buying one of the two specifically for deer hunting, I would go with the 22-250 just because it is definitely the more powerful of the two (because of the extra speed), but both are sufficient with the right bullet and well-placed shot.

    A little dirt never hurt anybody. However, the dirt around that barrel is full of lead, clay, shaving cream, paint, and God knows what else.

    I was actually more impressed with the .223 that I was the point to 22-50. The 22-250 Underwhelmed me.

    Always interesting!
    It looks like 223 did a little bit more damage than 22-250.
    Than of course depends on some other things.
    223 looks like a total center hit, 22-250 might be one inch high, also it depends on the size and weight of the watermelons.

    Good video, but don't forget. A lot of states out West won't let you hunt big game with 22's even if they are center fires.

    I always liked the different not as popular "twin" rounds, like instead of the .243, I like the 6mm Rem., and instead of the 22-250, I like the 220 Swift, and instead of the 300 Win Mag., I like the 300 RUM(it also has a little better ballistics), and so on and so forth.

    Some states won’t allow any caliber under .240 for deer. But a good shot with a .223 will definitely drop a deer. I’m too lazy to track, so I use a 30.06 or.270!

    My uncle kills the snot out of big bucks each year with a Palmetto State Armory 223 and some Federal Fusion 62 or 64 gr bonded that look just like these. If he can shoot less than 100 yards they go down quick. If 200 yards or more it may require another shot. If he is reaching out past 100 he normally goes to a 25-06. Many bucks and coyotes die in his presence...way more than in mine.

    I own them both. Like them both. I think 22-250 has more zoom. As far as deer hunting, If you are an experienced hunter, and want to hunt deer with 223 or 22-250, and it is legal in your state; By all means, go for it. If you are not an experienced hunter, I could not in good conscience, recommend it. For a first deer rifle, 243 or larger would be my recommendation.

    The 223 did more damage - extreme power dump - The watermelon totally exploded into dust. The 22-250 left huge chunks - Still not convinced that the 22-250 is better than the 223.
