Nice to see lighter bullets available for 22-250. Typically were heavier bullets...55 grains or so. The 204 matched the velocity and characteristics with lighter bullet and powder load, which was great for varmints. Barrel doesn't heat up as much, shots stay consistent. I've shot both, but I love the 204 for all day shooting. Savage 12FV.

I’m a bit late to the party here, but I believe the ‘splody bits were due to the type of projectile these had. Being varmint rounds, they’re designed to ‘splode on impact. I’d love to see this test again with FMJs for both rounds (if you can find them). Maybe even let .223/5.56 join in on the fun.

    Something IMPORTANT..
I am a ceramic artist and have been working with clay since 1980. Clay tends to dry out fairly quickly especially on hotter days in the sun. If a piece of clay sits out for even just a few min is dose start to stiffen which could change the effects and outcome.
I'm not sure how much set up time there is between shots, but it can effect it.
    Just trying to help.

I learned how the 22-250 kills all out of proportion compared to the ballistic stats the moment I got mine 20 years ago. A lot of speed with just enough bullet to make stuff happen. Remember, the speed component in the energy formula is a non-linear squared function while the mass is a linear function.

Here in Ireland back in the 70s and 80s we weren't allowed anything bigger than 22-250, lots of red deer were killed with neck shots ( irish red deer would be just a bit bigger than your American whitetail deer) but nowadays we're allowed bigger calibres thankfully. The 22-250 punches well above its weight thanks to its super high velocity.

On a gun-forum, one of the members claims to have fired 308 bullets out of a 50 BMG using sabots to seat the smaller, 30-caliber bullet. He said that it's not much fun to shoot for two reasons: 1) you have to remove the muzzle-brake, or the sabot will do it for you. This makes the recoil noticeably heavier. He said he got around that by shooting prone, and laying a 20-pound sand-bag against his shoulder and having the butt-stock press up against that. It worked, but he said it wasn't fun. 2) he said it's not that accurate, and only got 2-3 MOA at best.
      -
All that said, he claimed to have gotten 5K FPS with a 30-caliber projectile. He said that he shot a coyote with it and there was nothing left but blood, hair, and teeth.

My sister just took a white tail buck with a 204 at 140 yards. Took about 3 minutes to find him. Punched thru one side and bounced off the ribs on the other side. I was actually quite impressed with the round.

Honestly I’m in the market for a Ruger 204 !! My brother has one for varmint and it has never let anyone that has shot it at anything always a clean kill !! This seals the deal for me !!

I've killed bucks with 204 before, two big buck in one season to be exact. I was using the 40gr Fiocchi...so deadly for such a lightweight round.
