if you smash the phantom corsair you will only have to smash about 3 or 4 of them. they are worth 25000 a pop. I didn't know this at first and i smashed like 10 or 12 and had 400,000 worth in damage lol

I imagine the developer's wanted to reward players who got 5 stars on all cases and had to drive properly and slowly to avoid fines and, therefore, a lower rating. It feels so good to just drive like a madman through the city, smashing cars, mailboxes, traffic lights, people... And once your car breaks, grab another one as if nothing happened and do it again. So satisfying.
so u have to do this whilst solving a case? which case is the easiest to solve and you can do this on? and can u let the partner drive to the locations where the hidden cars are without fucking up the damage thingy?
Just for the reference - Dusenbeg costs $25000 and the fire truck costs $12459. Also Buick ambulance is quite expensive - $3195, Cadillac V16 Convertible - $5350 and Lincoln Model K Convertible Roadster - $4700
I have an idea and I was wondering if this would work. Can you just drive the cars into water? Meaning would that count? I drove a car into the pond at McArthur park and it immediately went dead. So if that counts, you could just hang around McArthur Park or any other body of water, commander vehicles nearby and just drive them into the water. Could probably get it done in less than 10 minutes if that counts. but I'm not sure, maybe the cars need to be actually destroyed the way you guys are doing it in the video.

You can also just grab every car you see and just ram the light poles/mail boxes/ benches for damage to the city. In about 30 minutes or so I racked up ~$33,000 for both the vehicles and the city damages, as well as $2,200 for running over pedestrians. I wasn't checking my progress though, so it can easily be done faster. Its also easier to do it on the first Traffic Desk case, the Driver's Seat because its already just so short. Bleep blorp.
According to the rockstar site the Deusenberg cost $24,000 when it was new.. do you get the full amount for totaling one, because that would be an easy way to get half way there. ;)
@BrainLuster there is a way to change it actually. if you call rockstar tech support (or whatever is listed in the instruction manual or the game box) and explain the situation to them they'll gladly switch it over :)
@halflife103 In this game you CANNOT randomly kill civillians with guns or cars like in GTA4, because you are a detective. The main elements are still there, the combat feels similar, the city is large, and there are plenty of vehicles to get your hands on. The game does not feature side missions though, like in GTA. Instead it features more linear detective cases. Hope this helped :)
The Phantom Corsair is the really expensive hidden car. It's one of the first ones you can find, and is supposed to be $24,000. The Buick Super police car is kind of expensive, too.
@RememberSoCal the Graphics are great, just one tip though - don't tab out, unless you want to wait a good 10-30 seconds for the game to un-fuck itself. I have everything cranked to max, looks beautiful, runs butter smooth.

when i did this this case i figured that if i went to get the dusenberg (the fastest and more importantly the most expensive car in the game) and crashed a few of them it should get me the trophy, funny thing was i must have crashed more than i thought as i ended up with $180,000 worth of damage lol. when it got to the end screen and my total figures came up i waited until my trophy appeared and then quit, that way i didnt have to register the one star rating i achieved.
I tried it twice, first time it was about $30,000 which of course wasn't enough, the second time I tried it was over $130,000 it took me so long, but thanks Geoff, it worked
Another way, is to make sure most of the question marks is in the map. Then say "fuck it" to the story and drive to unlock the hidden cars and drive the worst as possible as ever when collecting the hidden cars/landmarks/film reels.
Surely just driving down the sidewalk ploughing everyone down would work prettu effectively (i don't have the game so don't know if it fails the case if you do that)
Another thing to mention on this one is don't bother hitting civilians, not only are they hard as hell to hit but the damages earned from them are tiny (I easily hit around 100 people and I maybe got about 3000 from civilians)
Just start any case, and go nuts destroying anything and everything for like a half hour. (Then restart the case so it doesn't effect your 5-star rating on the case.)
@abovethehorde for some reason if you go fast enough you actually can hit and kill some people. I ran into one guy and he started bleeding, it was pretty lol
Yeah, IGN's achievement walkhtough for this achievement doesnt really work compared to this video. IGN just told everybody to hit like 70 cars, which takes like forever, so that you get the achievement. But RoosterTeeth just tolds you to wreck a few sweet rides and the achievement pops up.
O my God, I went for this achievement in a case and got like 40 k damage so the next case I found the really expensive Corsair car and crashed it, then stole another car and smashed everything and everybody on the sidewalk on the way back to where the car respawned, did that for a while to make sure I would get it and at the end of the case I had 230k damage, which in 2011 is in the millions!

@markothevrba They're both very different games in themselves, so there is really no point in comparing them, they're both really fun to play games, and its not a fact on is better then the other, its just opinion :)
I am cannot believe that when I tried to do this I was aiming for the 47k goal but when I reached the end I could not believe I did $123,564 worth of damage I was so shocked on how much I did in 30 minutes on cheap cars

I just did this by getting in the first car i saw and smashing them up .. i ended up with 126K of damage at the end .. overkill!!!!

The way I did this, I just drove regular cars and kept smashing into shit for about an hour while listening to the Drunk Tank.

@abovethehorde yeah during cases it could penalize you but in free roam you could shoot and run down whoever you want.
