Making Splinter a normal rat who taught himself and the turles martial arts is...certainly a choice. There is a reason other adaptation make it so Splinter used to be human. Also, how does this make Splinter the turtles' dad? They mutated at the same time, he might as well be their brother.
@@Blue-Apple-fc9eoindeed I prefer the fact that splinter was a human who fought the shredder, so that years later, his sons will finish what he started
The actors playing the turtles were the only thing I liked about the movies. 😂 I actually felt like they got their personalities down pretty well. And like you said, they had great chemistry, and they are the best part of the movie. If we would’ve seen MORE of the turtles through out the movie, and focused more on their relationships with each other instead of focusing too much on April, we could’ve grown more attached to them and gotten past the poor design choices. Also, it would’ve been cool to see them use more martial arts and ninja techniques, but they’re massive size made the scenes where they actually fight look weird. I don’t mind that they have some muscle, they’ve always had some muscle, but it’s their overall size that puts me off. There were a lot of missed opportunities in these movies that could’ve saved them from being as bad as they are. For what they are, I actually don’t hate the movies, I found them fun and entertaining. But they’re still bad. And they just had potential to be so much better. 🤷♀️
I thought both movies were a fucking a mess, and I could never get over the turtles being turned into such ugly monstrosities. Only good reason to watch these movies is Megan Fox, not because she did a good job as April (she didn't) but because she looks damn sexy in these films
The Michael Bay Ninja Turtles failed because the first film became a prime example of "Clueless Hollywood changing things that didn't need to be changed", and the sequel also suffered as a result. And what's remarkable is that Paramount probably wouldn't have redesigned Sonic The Hedgehog if not only because of the fan backlash to the original Sonic design, but how the similar fan backlash to the Bay Ninja Turtles' designs eventually doomed that franchise.
It's very surreal hearing you talk about being nostalgic for the TMNT craze of the early 2010's. Like...I remember the original craze. And the 2003 resurgence. And the 2012 reboot. Hearing about it like it's your childhood makes me realize just how long ago 2012 was
I don't know why but the image looks like rise of the teenage mutant ninja turtles the shredder it's a really good series i would recommend 18:20 if you already have seen the show good for you and also there's a season 2 you didn't know that
I feel you're kinda underselling the success of the '03 show. It was a pretty big ratings success in it's first few seasons and it was the best selling toy and general kids merchandise for two years in row. It tapered off really quickly and the cgi movie came out too late to capitalize on it but for a while it was pretty big among kids.
03 seems like the forgotten middle child now but in the UK when it came out it was massive initially. There was a second Turtlemania like in the late 80s.
To me it's pretty clear they didn't have a full plan or vision for this franchise (or at least it feels like it) and it felt like some other Hollywood reboots- embarrassed of the source material so they tried too hard to "fix" it while also removing almost all the charm in the process. From the story and backstory changes of the first movie, to the designs of the Turtles, to the way the second tried to course correct and appeal to 80s cartoon nostalgia. Just feels like they didn't know what to do with the characters in the movies at times.
I think that's part of the reason the second failed so spectacularly. I don't like the first but it was commercially successful and had stiffer competition going up against Guardians of the Galaxy and it had suprising legs. Clearly some people liked it...I know they did because I got into heated debates on message boards at the time. Most admitted it wasn't that good (blaming it on the troubled production) but had faith they were building up to something in sequels like IDW reincarnation and more edgy ninja battles. I imagine it was pretty shocking when the trailers for the sequel hit and it was clear they had no plan and had ditched all the stuff they thought was going to be expanded on.
@@klankorbus7874 While I agree that many people do seem to like the first movie (recently someone in the UK did life size statues of the designs from the reboots and despite them being creepy as hell looking to me based on the photos, most people could still identify them as the Turtles and got a kick out of them) I honestly think that the first movie did so well due to the brand name and maybe even fans just not caring about the numerous changes or wanting to give it a fair shot anyways (the latter was my reasoning to go watch it). The sequel could have also done well if it had a better release date since it was aiming for more mass appeal to fans of the original cartoon but I think what mainly killed it was them trying so hard to course correct and put in characters for the sake of fanservice that it gets in the way of telling a good story.
The idea of April naming the Turtles worked better in the IDW comics. She was a college student interning at TCRI and would usually be in the lab that the Turtles were in. It's a great series but I'm behind on it because I stopped when the original writer Tom Waltz left. It probably is my favorite version of the origin in that they tie in Shredder, Baxter Stockman and Krang into it very naturally.
If only Imagi hadn't gone bankrupt and could've made the intended sequels to TMNT 2007. Would've liked to have seen their planned Gatchaman movie, too.
As someone who grew up with a father showing me old cartoons, gatchaman and its former US dubs battle of the planets and g-force are my childhood. When i heard the TMNT studio wanted to make a movie i was hyped and heartbroken when the studio closed. I so wish i could see a world where it released
2007 is my guilty pleasure movie. Yes, it has flaws and the story is far from perfect but come ON. Also I heard of what their plans were for the sequels and we really could've had it all
Dude, I was born in 2003, but I still somehow grew up with both the 03 and 80s series. But like you I also grew up mainly with the 2012 version. I had so many toys and still do.
I was born in 2004, but I do remember watching some episodes of the 80s tmnt but I had no idea there was an 03 version until later. But I did mostly grew up on the 2012 version, well just the 1st season. My old cable provider (Suddenlink) cut-off Viacom channels right before the 2nd season was going to air. And it sucks because it looks like tmnt 2012 definitely got a lot more interesting and intense since the 1st season, and I have no idea where I can watch the full series at.
@@salt5537 that helps & it being on when you wake at 4 am or whatever. around that time it did reruns of old tv show like Spider-Man 1994, a pup named Scobey doo 1988. then many more. I believe still do reruns of old shows.
ugh, i still don't understand why their so freaking huge! aren't they supposed to be teenagers? Couldn't they have been designed to be at or a little shorter than April? Not to mention the overdesigning with all the extra bits on their person. Gonna be making a lot of clanging noises while their trying to ninja around. They should have been called "Adult Mutant Behemoth Turtles".
@@BlurroBlue true, teens can be huge. I'm not saying that the turtles can't be ripped, I'm just saying the turtles being 9 feet tall just feels unnecessary. Maybe Bay should just do the Cyber Samurai Mutant Ninja Turtles or Street Sharks if he wants them to be that big.
He should have just done a Street Sharks film. The Turtles were turned into Teenage Gamma Ninja Hulk Brothers. Their martial arts training was completely unnecessary when they could just run into a vehicle vehicle with their shell and obliterate the vehicle. At that size they could not possibly be ninjas. They don't need stealth and can't be stealthy anyway. They don't need weapons when they can fit a man's head in their hands and crush it if they wanted to. It was utterly ridiculous.
I was 14 when this movie released so I was its target audience and I got to say it was awesome when I first came out I absolutely loved this movie and even though I know it has problems I can't help but look back on it with a fond type of nostalgia. P.s even though I love this movie the first '90s movie still is my all-time favorite turtles movie / adaptation of the characters.
@@local_legend4521 It performed poorly because Nick did a shit job advertising it and gave it bad time slots on the channel. It wasn't the show's fault. Nick does this with pretty much every new cartoon nowadays.
I think it’s funny how they made April have a connection with the turtles early on and not shredder when usually shedder was the one that had some sort of emotional connection with the turtles early on and that was a huge problem with this movie is that it felt so lifeless without there being a hamato yoshi or yoshis pet and oroku saki connection
22:25 absolutely agree with this. That Raphael scene made me cry when I first watched it, but upon re-watching it, I felt like it would be a lot more hard hitting if it came from a better version of Raphael that I was interested in
Hot take: i didnt think the designs for the turtles were that bad. I feel like there could have been some minor tweaks that would have made them better though. Also i kind of would like to see what the original movie would have looked like. Maybe as its own thing and not a turtles movie. Lol. It sounded wild.
Agreed, I actually liked the turtle designs for these films - I liked how gritty and mature the designs were, as opposed to the usual childish cartoon designs 🤷🏻♀️
I mean let’s be fair. What exactly would you make a live action mutant turtle look like? I think they did as best as they could trying to adapt the animated versions in a realistic way.
Outside of the turtle look, the turtles themselves were awesome. Their chemistry was well done. The story was weak, and you can tell the movie was patched together to fix major pre release backlash. The shredder out of suit scenes feel and look like reshoots. I enjoyed the sequel a lot more. The sequel really felt like an episode of the old 90s cartoon.
A few sources claim about 1/3rd of the movie was reshot, I wouldn’t be surprised in the least if it is a case of patchworking it together, as you’ve suggested.
I grew up with both the 2003 and 2012 version and let me tell you: 13 year old me assumed the 2014 movie would be connected to the 2012 show... ...oh I was so wrong when i saw the teaser. Edit: I misremembered. I was actually 14 and the teaser came out in early spring of 2014

I'm SOOO VERY GLAD. I Found Your Channel, As You're One Of The FEW Who TOTALLY Gets The Connection Between BOTH Bay & Paramount & That Bay DIDN'T Direct A MAJORITY Of The Stuff He Gets Blamed For! Same Thing with Story Elements, Bay WASN'T The Writer Of ANY #Transformers Film, But He DID Dirext OVER HALF Of Them!
4:34 I love that you used one of Andre's aka Black Nerd Comedy's TMNT videos. Truly one of the biggest TMNT fans I know! But also one of my favorite UA-camrs who inspired my channel.
As someone who was born in '03, I didn't grow up in TMNTs prime, but god it's still my favorite series ever. I can still remember going to see the '07 film for my 4th birthday. Thank you for making this video, it meant a lot.
For the 3rd movie, I feel like it would follow the Triceratons storyarc. Like, The Triceratons and General Blanque would have been villains, as well as Krang returning. And Fugitoid and the Utrom being in it as allies to the Turtles. Just saying.
They made clear they had *zero* interest in characters and concepts that were no prominent in the 80s animated series. So there was no chance Triceratons, Utroms or the Fugitoid showing up outside of an easter egg. Karai only made it into these movies for a bit more gender diversity and look how they treated that character.
I LOVED these movies lol. I actually liked the designs because I felt like they did a good job representing the personalities of the characters. It also has my favorite characterization of Mikey :p I can't wait to see what the new live action movie is going to be like!
Agreed, I actually liked the turtle designs for these films as well and same i thought they went well with their personalities too. I liked the gritty mature dark comic book look of these designs
Tmnt is my favorite franchise and I remember Michael bay tmnt on Pringle cans, Karai in this movie was the voice of tang shen and alopex from the 2012 version, there’s gonna be another movie rise of the tmnt the movie

I just couldn't get over the design of the turtles. I'm sure a lot of people (kids) got lot of enjoyment out of these movies, but I was deffo not in the target audience for it, being a 30 something.
I think the designs are fine, but they are way too big. I think they were very well cast and once you see them interacting with one another, you can still believe that they are the turtles.
@@9etherNeo They're actually really short in the Mirage comics. I prefer them either short or human sized, yes. But it's a different interpretation and that's fine. At least these turtles actually feel true to their personalities.
The whole April naming the turtles bothered me so much it kinda took me outta the movie, it didn't make any sense to me I mean literally the only circumstance where a child names a turtle any of those names is where TMNT exist
The movie wasn't that bad. My issue was their size forcing Shredder to have some battle suit in order to have a chance against them. I liked how he never needed one before proving how skilled he was making him a worthy opponent cause it always took all 4 turtles to beat him. Other than that the chemistry between the turtles were spot on.
7:29 Honestly that poster wouldn't look half Bad if the Turtles weren't Hulking Monstrosities. As a matter of fact, I think this poster was referenced in the TMNT/Power Rangers crossover in the comics. Speaking of, could you talk about the development of the Power Rangers 2017 movie?
To me the movies weren’t entirely bad even tho it’s directed by Michael bay overall I feel like In the second film he did a much better job especially bringing characters like bee bop and rocksteady as well as kraang
It's a common misconception because everyone deems them the Bayturtles, but he didn't direct them, only produced them. The directors, or at least the director of the first movie, just really made it stylistically feel like the live action Transformers movies Bay directed and due to the designs of the characters and the presence of Megan Fox it's easy to assume Bay directed them.
@@LeopoldLitchenstein Even if he didn't direct the movie, it feels like it has his fingerprints all over the script. So many explosions, unnecessary hot shots of Megan Fox, slow-mo shots for the trailer, lense flairs and disgusting CGI monsters.
I grew up with the '03 series, I vividly remember when the news of this duology fell, specifically the reactions to the designs, Michael Bay and Megan Fox, my friends and I despised the new noses. I was already preparing myself for a disappointment from that moment on but this hit even harder 😭
The thing about Shredder being portrayed by a different actor is probably because at the end of the first movie there's a little detail that after he falls to the ground we see his hand clenching near the mutegen canister before he collapses. It's weird nobody ever points that out and just get super confused as to why he looks different when it was literally been hinted at.
I think your overthinking that man, the ooze scene was just to show that he was still alive and had access to more ooze, that was in no way a hint to the actor being changed
@@kylematchinis7751 I'm saying the ooze made him young again it's not that complicated. How? Why? Don't care, and neither would the people making the movie.
@@bluecayser1498 Proper consistency isn't really a strongsuit movies like this have. Especially in Michael Bay films you can just make sh*t up and hope a lore writer can fill in the gaps in tie-in media to get people like us to shut up about it. Ooze can do whatever the writer wants it to do and not all writers are meticulous.
It never occurred to me until you pointed out how we don’t really get to see how the turtles interact with each other and have actual character development, also considering Micheal Bay helped with the movies it makes sense that they have so much to them considering the close detail in Transformers and at least they seemed to realize that they was too detailed. ‘Casey’ is basically like ‘April’ from the first film wanting more from their job and trying to dive into something they don’t understand. Also I’m confused as to why the turtles allowed ‘Casey’ to see them if they we’re trying to stay away from human eyes, the only thing that connects them is Bebop and Rocksteady but they was mentioned until ’April’ talks about their mutation. I also agreed that the turtles vs Bebop and Rocksteady was really cool and it definitely would be interesting to see what they would’ve looked as humans but at the same time it wouldn’t be TMNT if they were human lol. I too was born in 2002 and grew up with the 2012 version and I gotta say the 2012 show was so good actually being able to see their personalities and how they act when April wasn’t around and it really gets you emotionally attached (Splinter 🥺) there is the 2018 show as well but I haven’t seen enough of it to really know how good or bad it is.
Am I the only one who was actually kind of interested in seeing what the alien version would entail? Seriously, I would actually like to see the franchise have a change of direction.
One of my favorite Franchise is the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and to this Day I love it like a Passion, however this Doalogy almost killed the Franchise,it has som moments but it doesn't have the Heart and Soul of the Turtles,it doesn't understand the Lore, they look weird as Hell, and Michael Bay wasn't a good idea to direct or be incharged of making TMNT Movies,I hope and pray that the TMNT Franchises getting better in the Future.
IT wouldn't kill the franchise, anymore then Batman and Robin did Batman, or even TMNT 3 did. It might put it on hiatus, but it wouldn't ened. New generations would form to watch new versions.
The fact that those designs for the turtles even made it into the preproduction phase much less got green lit as the final design still blows my mind. They’re one of the most hideous things ever put on film.
2003 was my intro to the series and I like the 2012 show. These movies are... fine. I don't hate them. Don't hate the designs. Don't hate anything about the movies. I'm just indifferent which is probably worse. Cause at least if I hated it there would be some passion. Like the Michael Bay Transformers films have a passion behind it's hate but these films... nothing and that makes them less memorable.
These movies were definitely an interesting take on the characters. I was born in January 2000 so although I was very little I did watch the 2003 show which is the one I’m most fond of, but I did like the 2012 as well.
Will Arnett's sandwich scene is a giant Arrested Development reference, the sandwich is Parmesan and Mustard (referencing Gene Parmesan played by Martin Mull who played Colonel Mustard), and the song, Carless Whisper is sung by George Michael (Michael Cera's character in AD).
The only reason the first made so much money is because nostalgia. Out of the shadows had some good things the guy they recast for Leo was really good I always thought Johnny Knoxville was a miss casting. Bee bop and rock steady were cringe
I grew up with the 80's series, and I actually like the '14 and '16 films. But I do see why they're not everyone's cup of tea. For instance, take the "Any last words?" scene in '14. Up to this point, Raphael has been the emotional fulcrum of the film. So, with the team hanging on to a collapsing tower, falling to their presumed doom, Mikey admits he didn't understand the ending of "Lost" (really, who did?), Don admits to being the one who messed with the Pop Tarts...and then Raph goes on a stemwinder of soliloquy, ending with an "I love you guys so much!"...and then... *record scratch* "Raph? We made it. Are you crying?" What? Just, WHAT? When you set up a catharsis, and instead you go for comic relief, you've just completely undercut the payoff. You've taken the emotional climax of the film, and made a shaggy dog joke out of it. That's one thing I can name, that they got wrong in '14. Another, was keeping the leads offscreen at the beginning, for as long as they did. That CAN work, depending on the story you're trying to tell. But you need the right material to pull it off, and this...wasn't it. It wasn't nearly as bad as it could have been. But it also wasn't nearly as good as it should have been.
Here’s my idea of a modern reboot of TMNT. It all begins decades before the actual story in Japan. A shinobi clan, the precursor to the Foot Clan, is dying out as in the ever-changing modern era, ninjas are becoming irrelevant. And the clan has been completely split and are close to civil war with one group; “the evolvers” wanting to evolve with the world at the cost of everything they are, and the others, “the traditionalists”, wishing to continue to stagnate while remaining true to their ways. After the clans' civil war end, the very few surviving members of the traditionalist fee to the US a start over. Among them is a very young, and I want to emphasize the very young part; like 15-20-23 years old… Hamato Yoshi aka Splinter. The years go by, and Splinter has grown up and now works at Sax Industries as a scientist in NYC. Where he, Baxter Stockman, Eric Sax, and others are working to change the world. It’s here he earns his he name Splinter as when he once got a painful splinter under his fingernail and opposite of his elbow that both caused him pain constantly… he refused to get it removed or see anyone because he was too focused on the experiment. The called splinter as not even a splinter under his nails could distract him. Things changed when after a incident with an inter-dimensional portal soaked 4 test dummy turtles in strange ooze and a lab explosion, he found that Baxter only wants fame, and Sax is only motivation us money. And that was the good news, the bad news is Sax is selling stuff to criminals and terrorists as well as the government and public. Splinter takes action after learning the cops are being paid off, but Sax’s adopted father is someone from Splinters past… Oroku Saki aka The Shredder. After destroying everything he worked spent many years, sleepless nights, and long days to make a reality, while personally lamenting how everything he had ever work on and dedicated his life to was quite literally going up in smoke before his very eyes… made worse by the fact it was being done by his own hands… and accidentally exposing himself to the ooze from the portal incident and being confronted by either Sax, Shredder’s Lieutenant, or Shredder himself, he ended up washing into the NYC sewers. There he found the old test turtles and as time went one both the turtles and Splinter began to mutate into humanoid animals. Splinter took to raise the 4 creatures as his own kids. He named them Leonardo, Michelangelo, Raphael, Donatello after he 4 Renaissance figures as the Renaissance is a period of history he has always been facilitated by. Even teaching the ninjitsu, mostly due to never being able to shake the feeling that Shredder would find him and return to finish the clan’s civil war started. Thus, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles we’re born. Splinter is now a middle-aged man in his early to mid 50s, and the turtles are teens. Meanwhile while all that had happened, Oroku Saki had been very busy. After the “Evolvers” took over the clan, going from a shinobi family clan to a mercenary organization that would work for anyone if they had the cash. From Yakuza and foreign dictators to freedom fighters and CIA-esque agencies. Thus, the Foot Clan was born. Oroku Saki, who at the time of the "Evolvers" taking over was 18-23-25 years old, definitely older that Splinter regardless, started as a basic operator eventually working his way up the ladder becoming the leader of the Foot. Now known only as "The Shredder." At some point he adopted a son named Eric Sax after his family died and he was orphaned in Japan and would go on to find his own company, even Using his birth name Sax to throw suspicion off. After a lifetime of serving criminals, Saki decided the Foot would now be the commanders not the commanded. After becoming one of the top ten and top five crime syndicates in all the Yakuza, he turned his attention to the world beyond. With the aid of his beloved son Sax and is corporate, empire the Foot dug out a piece of NYC for themselves. It was here that Sax stepped in. Suppling his father with not only weapons and gear, but now technology and manpower. Within barely 2-3 years the Foot went from a ninja clan for hire with an underworld presence, but few knew that existed, to a successful PMC company that outshined the clan's golden age. With Shredder himself utilizing a mechanized battle suit, and the ninjas using a mix of ancient weapons and modern technology, while the rest of the Foot Clan were now armed with tactical armor and military grade hardware. Sax industries became a shield that supplied advanced state of the art gear and next gen products, and Foot Clan became a sword that utilized them. Sax even created a second military group called within the Foot Clan “Soldiers of Sax” as a more legitimate side to their activities. Where Foot Clan were problematic due to working for anybody for money, Soldier of Sax or SoS, only worked for and fought against terrorists and criminals, while seldom served dictators or criminals. This had a downside that the true ninjas in the Foot, like Karai, Pimiko, and Tatsu, became much, much lower in number and became relegated to being special forces and commandos. While standard issue soldiers and "foot" soldiers, if you will, like Hun, Lotus Blossom, Sax's son Andrew, and Col. Arron, became the main force of the Foot Clan. And Shredder, now in his mid-late 50s, early 60s, has become3 dependent on the suit die to decades of field work along with both personal neglect and disregard of his own health and safety, isn't the unstoppable modern day warlord ninja he once was. But is too prideful to accept it, so he uses the machine to keep himself from waning. That leads us to the modern day and main story. There is a new crime wave sweeping all 5 burrows of NYC. Known only as “The Big Man”, he has (seemingly) united the entire criminal underbelly of New York City. From neighborhood gangbangers and Irish thugs, to Triad bosses, and mafia dons; they have all unified. Stretching from the residential neighborhoods, through Chinatown, past Wall Street, to New York Bay... The Big Man has everything and every criminal under one leader. And the Foot Clan has been enlisted to be this New Boss's muscle. The city as contracted the Soldiers of Sax to aid to police in this new crime wave. Unbeknownst to everyone, Sax and the criminals are all on the same side. Giving Shredder complete control of the city. In response to this, the Tmnt have come out from the sewers to fight this crime wave. Using their skills environment, and darkness they become *true* ninjas; utilizing guerrilla warfare, hit and run tactics, stealth and infiltration, and swift but brutal and lethal strikes, mastery of martial arts and cqc, and being Rambo without the guns. Think the Ninja Assassin film mixed with Rambo and got a good idea of what they are like. All the while they seek to evade the NYPD, SoS, Foot Clan, and the criminal underbelly. As all of this is going on, reporters April O’Neal and later her camera person, Vernon Fenwick I think, seek to fight out the truth of what’s really going on and who it is that’s fighting the criminals, if it even is a single person.
I feel like I’m the only one who actually likes the character designs. It fits the whole sewers vibe nicely. Their outfits are basically just trash they found laying around the sewers/dark places within the city. I would’ve liked to see them maybe get better costumes as the movies went on, but sadly we only got two.
As a HUGE TMNT these movies made The Next Mutation, Turtle Tunes, We Wish You a Turtles Christmas, Coming out Their Shells, Getting Down in Your Town, and TMNT III look like masterpieces.
Other than the issues with the original movie I think the big issues came with Out of the Shadows I think the issue with out of the shadows was that the Kraang, and Stocmann stories should have been 2 separate movies, it would have been less muddled, and confused

Allegedly Paramount fought the makers of the Sonic movie over the design citing that the first TMNT reboot movie made a lot of money in spite of the backlash over the designs. I would argue there's more precedent for the turtles designs though. It's a mash up of two pre-existing versions of the turtles and the franchise started with a darker more edgy tone so there was some belief you could go further with the designs. Sonic has always been a cartoon that was never supposed to look like a real hedgehog.
How i see some of the ideas of the first film (and i really like those) like the idea to relate April to the Turtles and Shredder, following the Turtles and the events from the point of view of April and even giving a kind of dark and grounded yet goofy vibe to the movie, it could have been the Batman 89's kind of movie of the 2010s, if it was well executed and written.
Well Young Turtle fan, I'm an Old OG Turtle fan and I love this video! I appreciate your viewpoint and look at the turtles history and relation with paramount. Thank you for doing a great video!
The problem with the learning ninjutsu from a book is that it takes away from an integral part of the characters origins, but so does the rest of the movie sooo
OG fan of the originial turtles here. 2014 movie was "ok" to me. If anything, I did find it cute that they tried to make a spiritual successor to "T-U-R-T-L-E Power" with "Shell Shocked" at the end of the movie. The sequel really did feel like a better movie, but it was clear even when I saw it in theaters that it was too little too late to let the series have a 3rd entry. Great video overall! Hope you continue to grow on this platform!
I don't understand the whole design issue ppl seem to have, I think those ninja turtles were by far the best, most realistic and most badass looking ones to date
@@crazykiddd4992 the whole thing. Michael bay shouldn't of been attached to it and he got mad backlashed and killed the franchise. He's still attached and I wished someone that has real talent and writers would of got those rights. Nickelodeon is not the studios that should have it. Nothing about those new ones are cool and it did have funny moments and have a one part that was cool. But the movie wasn't good to me..
37 minutes long and you didnt even mention that the turtles were WAY too big to fit through a manhole. This is kind of important for turtles that are supposed to live in the sewers.
I enjoyed these two movies, especially the second one. as an 80s kid that watched the first two movies in theaters, it was great to finally see bebop and rock steady and kraang in a movie. I even liked the new turtle designs. but ultimately it all fell flat with it's story telling. i wanted to see the turtles actually fight bebop and rock steady.....and the new shredder should've been included for more than twenty minutes. but it was still a lot of fun. I was looking forward to a third movie with more mutants like Baxter and whoever else....but everyone just had to nitpick and complain until it all got cancelled
Here's the thing I don't get: they made a show about giant alien robots turning into terrestrial vehicles... and thought four turtles being mutated into humanoid shaped ninjas and taught martial arts by a bipedal sewer rat was too far-fetched? 2014 was the start of the "being a geek is cool" era. I think general audiences could have easily accepted something akin to the 2003 series. Hell, just adapt that. Adapt the first season of the 2003 series.
I get your young but you failed to realized the 2003's Helped reboot them and what brought the Turtles back into the spotlight and it was Actually based on the Comic for the first 2 seasons and the Merch was off the charts.
I’ve always liked their designs. If this was an animated film, they wouldn’t work for me, but since they were designed to look photorealistic, why not pile a bunch of gear on them? Sure, it’s not the same as the classic, but is anything in this film the same as the classic?
@@ImaHeatseekr I would hihgly disagree wiht you on the first film. However TMNT 2, although still done by Jim Henson did come off more "Cartoony" as was the point. But it took some of the grit, and what made the suits work in the first film. Let's not discuss the 3rd films suits. Thats just another story alltogether.
I think the turtles should come back with a new live action take, but this time test the waters. Make it a stand alone film, leave a slight hook for a possible sequel, and write a decent story with fun characters and a slightly serious tone to it. It doesn't have to be about saving the world, the scale could be slimmer yet more personal (like rescuing April or Splinter). Make sure to focus on the Turtles being a family, get some cool action and you got yourself a Turtles movie. The Michael Bay films seemed like they had an idea but didn't know how to follow through. Should they make a serious Turtles film or a silly one? Should it be focused on April or the Turtles? Will it have continuity or are we experimenting? Just seems like they didn't know what to do, hopefully with this next film they learned better.
I actually like their origin in this film, it’s cool how they had a connection pre mutation and the individual colors on their shells, I just wish they didn’t learn all of their ninjitsu from a book, they should’ve kept hamato yoshi
I love these Reboot Movies of Michael Bay's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and The Ninja Turtles are the best cartoon heroes in the half-shell so I hope The Ninja Turtles will hopefully be much better in the future!❤🐢🌟🍕👍🗡

Making Splinter a normal rat who taught himself and the turles martial arts is...certainly a choice. There is a reason other adaptation make it so Splinter used to be human.
Also, how does this make Splinter the turtles' dad? They mutated at the same time, he might as well be their brother.
Cause he was an adult when he mutated, they were hatchlings.

“It’s Megan Fox! You’re fumbling the bag, my brother!” sent me. Also, “The white people go off to fight Bebop and Rocksteady” is incredible.
It way bigger hit than 2012 show. It was the #1 kids show in the world for 2+ years.
@Shin Shaman Right. It was more faithful to the comics, more mature, gritty, and the ratings for 5 seasons dwarf 2012 l, it's close at all.

And the first one copied the amazing spider man
Yea, they weren’t great but I had dumb fun with them
My 11 year old ass was like "OOOO COOL SHREDDER KNIVES" 😳
My issue was not just the design. But the super strength and lack of "ninja" in the saga.
Perfectly summaries the Sequel Trilogy perfectly too.
@@GrandMasterBruh No, Ninja Turtles turned out worse.
Wow, You are just aslave to those feelings..?huh ?!?.

Outside of the turtle look, the turtles themselves were awesome. Their chemistry was well done. The story was weak, and you can tell the movie was patched together to fix major pre release backlash. The shredder out of suit scenes feel and look like reshoots.

I would’ve liked to see them maybe get better costumes as the movies went on, but sadly we only got two.
i remember being disgusted at the turtles's unmasked faces
As a HUGE TMNT these movies made The Next Mutation, Turtle Tunes, We Wish You a Turtles Christmas, Coming out Their Shells, Getting Down in Your Town, and TMNT III look like masterpieces.
TRUTH. This is not the LOW POINT
Other than the issues with the original movie I think the big issues came with Out of the Shadows I think the issue with out of the shadows was that the Kraang, and Stocmann stories should have been 2 separate movies, it would have been less muddled, and confused
I remember being so hyped for this movie and remembering all of this. Awsome vidoe, thanks
Surprised Paramount didn’t chance these turtle designs like they did with Sonic
These movies were probably the catalyst to fans being able to successfully bully a studio into making a better product.
waht went worong is that i the LEADER OF FOOT NINJAS DIDNT FIGHT THE TURTLES IN THE SECOND MOVIE THAT WHY IT FAILED. SEE MY VIDEOS TO SEE HOW BRUTALLY I KILL MY ENEMIES!
TMNT 2012 is is my favorite Version the Franchise.
When he busted out the book I burst out laughing in the theater
OG fan of the originial turtles here. 2014 movie was "ok" to me. If anything, I did find it cute that they tried to make a spiritual successor to "T-U-R-T-L-E Power" with "Shell Shocked" at the end of the movie. The sequel really did feel like a better movie, but it was clear even when I saw it in theaters that it was too little too late to let the series have a 3rd entry.
Great video overall! Hope you continue to grow on this platform!
I think I actually once read that script...the one with the turtles as aliens🤦♂️😭...how Michael Bay gets any work is beyond me
No way I just found this on my recommended 9 years after I came out to the exact date
I don't understand the whole design issue ppl seem to have, I think those ninja turtles were by far the best, most realistic and most badass looking ones to date
me too... they complain cause of ralph muscles? he always was kind of.. like donnie with glasses
Lmao 🤣 uuh no!!!
@@midwestkrazy83turner50 what didnt you like about em?
@@crazykiddd4992 the whole thing. Michael bay shouldn't of been attached to it and he got mad backlashed and killed the franchise. He's still attached and I wished someone that has real talent and writers would of got those rights. Nickelodeon is not the studios that should have it. Nothing about those new ones are cool and it did have funny moments and have a one part that was cool. But the movie wasn't good to me..
This radiants the same energy of watching the american Godzilla movies, where you only see him like 5 minutes out of the whole frickin movie
37 minutes long and you didnt even mention that the turtles were WAY too big to fit through a manhole. This is kind of important for turtles that are supposed to live in the sewers.
What went wrong with this movie you ask? The design, Megan Fox, and the origin change of the turtles smh
Even though as a kid I didn’t really like the turtles I really hoped they would’ve continued the movies
I agree with you a lot I grew up the 2012 turtles it felt really cool and fun
80’ fans are just mad cause they want the old turtles suits, ain’t gonna happen, these ‘00 movies were great.
I’ve always liked their designs. If this was an animated film, they wouldn’t work for me, but since they were designed to look photorealistic, why not pile a bunch of gear on them? Sure, it’s not the same as the classic, but is anything in this film the same as the classic?
I think they look better than the old goofy looking movie ones, unpopular opinion.
Stumbled across this video by happenstance. Big TMNT fan. Loved ya breakdown. But most importantly your Unthinkable outro song is beyond fire 🔥🔥🔥
Rah when I heard the voice and realised its Ricardo! Great video my dude
Rises Of The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is actually going to get a Netflix movie this year.
Kinda crazy that I recently have gotten hyper fixated on TMNT and you post this awesome video this week! Crazy
When I heard Michael Bay said that the new ninja turtles is gonna be edgy the I immediately thought about shadow the hedgehog 😅😅🤣🤣😂
I didn't even know that there was a sequel.
Don’t worry, dude. I also grew up with the 2012 tmnt series.
Grow up
What do you love in them? April having no emotions? The TurtlesS, designs who are weird and a bit ugly? Casey jones not being in the movie? The terrible jokes Mickeal Angelo says? I'm a bit curious :)
@@ladypool1404 This guys comments make no logic, only way to escape it is to ignore it
@@marijamarcelic3149Thank's for the advice! I don't think his comment makes no sense though. It's ok if he likes the movies and have a different oppinion than us :)

Honestly kinda wish we got Michael Bays crazy version of space aliens and complete lore change. We already have animated and live action films that capture the magic and fun of the source material. For a modern retelling, makes me think “what could’ve been” either it would’ve been bad or would’ve shocked people with how good but insanely different it is. Giving Ninja Turtles a new breath of air and something different to talk about. Whether good or bad.
