I'm no longer working with Established Titles and won't do any ads for them in future videos. Thanks for the heads up, guys
Can you play Dead space 3 with me
Are u gonna do out of the shadows and the 2014
It would be fine if you did advertising for established titles. Just let people know it's a gag gift and that they don't actually own any land in Scotland so all their buying is a goofy paper that looks legit haha
Don't switch to Kamikoto knives. It's the same company.
I was just about to say
For those looking for it, The reason TCRI was changed to TGRI was due to the change of getting rid of the Krang plotline. "Techno Cosmic Research Industries" was changed to "Techno Global Research Industries" because they wanted to get rid of all of the connections to any alien race and the ooz that creates the turtles.
Also want to point out that the art featuring Casey's version of the beginning of the movie is exactly when I hit like, nice work
Thanks!
@@rosepinkink3138 youre welcome! Artist to artist, it's the kind of thing that makes me jealous
I wish they kept the reveal that the scientist was an utrom
If they really wanted to avoid krang confusion
Just like I don't know
Do an interview with some big tv show host explaining what the utrom is with like a uh puppet and a power point presentation or something briefly after the film is released to theaters but still in theaters
I’ll never forget watching TMNT with my elderly great grandmother and at the shot of Ralph realizing what he was doing after the fight with Leo, this woman said “you see that? That’s the devil leaving his soul”
Ahahahahah
Who is RALPH
@@KuzuTomoki knock it off. there was a typo. we all know who he's talking about.
@@KuzuTomoki lol
Awesome story though hah
@@DBfan106 My friend, that is not a typo. Every single video I've seen about TMNT, people be spellin' his name like that. It is not accidental, it is infuriating (T▽T)
1990 tmnt is literally one of the best comic adaptations put to film!
It’s always fun when you cover the turtles.
Your god dang right
Yes
Absolutely.
In regards to TMNT III's subtitle, it actually wasn't called Turtles in Time, at least not during its theatrical nor VHS releases. A lot of people sorta mistakenly referred to it by that subtitle due to the popularity of the video-game, and I guess it became so common that eventually the DVD release started using it, too.
Even when it came out back then it was being called Turtles in Time. Barely anyone said, 3.
@@truesoulghost2777 that still wasnt the name of the movie lmao, if you look at old box art, the wiki page, and all trailers and promotional media, its just TMNT III, albeit there is a tagline on one of the old boxes that says " The Turtles are back ... in time!"
22:37
The movie isn't called "Turtles in Time", it's only "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III".
It's been given the "turtles in time" title over the years by fans, because of the similarities between the videogame and movie. And Nickelodeon started using it in marketing for streaming services and on DVD box art.
Also the 2nd movie didn't make alot of money like the 1st did. That's why the 3rd movie took longer to come out and was a last chance gamble on the dying popularity of the franchise.
Watching Mikey hit the Griddy in the intro filled me with so much unexplained joy
Get sturdy***
@@tokyo._dreams I was bouta say that ain’t no damn griddy
In which movie
That wasn't the Griddy.
Go watch the intro to the original 80s cartoon. It was that.
Casey was laying low in Secret of the Ooze because he was wanted for attempted murder after crushing Shredder in the garbage truck
The change from T.C.R.I. to T.G.R.I. happened because they altered the lore behind the Ooze, so, instead of "Techno Cosmic Research Institute" is now called "Techno Global Research Institute". Professor Perry, also, was changed; originally, he was an Ultrom in disguise, with a reveal towards the end, in front of a mirror, but the scene was cut and the character just disappears after the Battle in the nightclub.
I rewatched these movies awhile ago and it was really fun. TMNT 1990 is so good. It has such a good balance of comedy and seriousness that it works overall. The costumes were terrific too. I remember liking TMNT II more when I was little, but it is really jarring to see it after the first movie, to the point where it doesn't even feel like they're set in the same universe. It's still a pretty fun movie despite being a step backwards from the first movie. I actually kind of like TMNT III. While it's a weaker movie compared to the first two, it felt a lot more consistent with the tone of TMNT II. That probably isn't a good thing, but it felt like a more natural follow up tone wise coming from that movie as opposed to the first movie. It isn't surprising that TMNT III gained such an infamous reputation amount fans and I wouldn't go as far as saying it's underrated, but it was still fun. The dialogue could get so ridiculously stupid that I laughed, I liked seeing Casey again even though he didn't do anything and it had some fun moments.
I have a hard time believing that TMNT 2007 is set in this same continuity. I know that there are nods to the previous movies, but it feels more like Easter Eggs to me. The tone would also feel a bit out of place, but this movie series never had a consistent tone to begin with. It was a pretty fun movie with some terrific CGI animation. The Leo vs. Ralph scene definitely gets a lot of attention and not having the turtles voice by celebrities does make the voice cast stand out too. It's a shame that they didn't get to do a continuation since that could have been interesting, but this was a pretty decent movie too.
the ones who voiced Splinter April and Winters were celebrities. Macko Gellar and Stewart.
May you rest in peace David Warner. You could’ve been Baxter Stockman if you had the chance, but you still appeared in TMNT 2. Go ninja go ninja go
As a hopeful comic creator, I’d give a kidney to have my characters a fraction as popular as the TMNT are.
Best of luck to you.
Don't quit your day job
Now is a great time to start creating.
Speaking of which I'm working on an original animated series i uploaded a trailer recently on my channel check it out 🙏 id appreciate it
Eastman and Laird don't hate Bebop and Rocksteady from what I've seen/heard. They've been brought in at other points *with* the two or one of them attached.
As I understand it, The Ninja Turtles movies didn't have the rights to most of the cartoon elements, so they couldn't use that version of Stockman, or Bebop and Rocksteady.
No they hated them. Remember they haven’t really come back into the franchise until the Nickelodeon series. You know how long that is?
When you say Nick, are you talking 2012 or Rise?
@@br3ndan538 2012
Someone should troll them by bringing back Venus from The Next Mutation. Neither of them controls the rights, so what are they gonna do except bitch on social media?
@@Linklex7 IDW comics
Imagine if we got more sequels with the costumes from the 1st movie. What a collection that wouldve been.
Now I need a full length comic style animated video to show us what secret of the ooze could of been! Watching 10 seconds of Casey Jones in place of keno made me happy.
I loved how the first movie used the elements it incorporated from the cartoon. It utilized them so intelligently, like using April's reporter job to move the plot along, pulling together all the disparate elements from various early TMNT comics.
DUde, I think the RISE of the TMNT movie is the best!! That one brought me into the fandom! I like the 1984 movie and the 2007 one a lot, but Rise is still my favorite :D
Rise is My favorite, but bro, your comment it's going to be so hated
@@nehuend1015 Oh no D:
I hope people aren't going to be mean, I really love Rise
2007 is low key amazing in every way but the villains.
Secret of the ooze suffers from 2 things,
1st was parents. They literally made waves and lawsuits and the solution was to basically let the turtles never use the weapons. It was literally to shut up parents calling it way too violent and scary.
Next is studio cheapness. Don't forget that the original is one of the highest grossing independent movies of all time. And they wanted to make it quick and not licence anything from the cartoon. Which is why all the missing aspects occur. And the terrible ending. Cheap and fast. Exactly what the studio wanted.
I hope that one day we get a TMNT movie with a New York reminiscent of the new Batman movie with a story that’s dark (more dark than usual) and compelling. A movie that doesn’t follow the typical Ninja Turtles movie formula and does something new and creative with the characters and plot. Basically a TMNT film on the same level of The Batman if not even better. If only I was a film director… 😅
I've got plans, bro. I've been planning my version of my live action TMNT trilogy that loosely adapts the original 80s comics while retaining the stuff from the more iconic versions of Turtles since. I'd maybe bring in a less anime-esque interpretation of the mystic powers from Rise. No glowing stuff, just Leo Teleporting, Mikey making Naruto-esque shadow clones, etc (I might cut this, but it provides some cool cinematography for Shredder). I made designs, made a hypothetical cast, and I have a plot outline for all three movies with the main character firmly being Leo (of whom I gave an arc of trust and not to let emotions drive him). It's literally my dream project
Turtles isn’t really as dark as most people think. The first issue is dark but it gets silly afterwards. Turtles works better when silly, though I will say they need to use a new villain. Give Shredder a break.
@@Vegitodraws, ngl I’ve been doing the same. It could be dark with really stylistic visuals and with The Batman’s level of violence, but still have a good amount of humour to lighten things up. The first movie could have Baxter Stockman as the villain and the second could have Shredder. But not the traditional, old-fashioned Shredder. This time, it would be a younger Shredder that isn’t super intimidating at first but makes the audience and everyone in the film fear him with his actions and in the way the character is portrayed. He could be either the son or the brother of Oroku Saki who (similar to the OG comics) sets out for revenge on Splinter and then the turtles after his father’s death. Man, this movie would just be so thrilling, I really hope to see a film like this one day.
I absolutely loved the way you described the 80's turtles. Good, but definitely not perfect. Simply a seasoning.
The 2007 movie had Red Flag by Billy Talent in one scene, so it automatically makes it the best
That rise of TMNT movie was amazing though
As someone who only watched a bit of rise, the movie was a huge surprise.
@@NeoConnor1 rise started off a little weak, but continuously just got better and better the ending was awesome and then the movie was the icing on the cake. I hope they renew the show after how damn good the movie was.
i hope they dont.
@@TheEmperorRaidou why
The 2003 series is my favorite interpretation of the Ninja Turtles. They could be serious when they needed to be. And the TMNT animated movie is great too.
23:04 when I was younger the turtles looked so dead in the eyes I really found them unsettling. I genuinely had a fear for the ninja turtles until I got older and found out about other cartoons and movies
The ninja turtles went through the reverse effect of dc and marvel. Dc and marvel had silly silver age comics that were translated to the big screen as dark gritty realistic reboots, while the turtles started out as a dark gritty comic, that got adapted into goofy fun kids shows and movies.
I'd argue that the original TMNT comic was more like Shrek in terms of parody
I was thinking... maybe the next TMNT film should take cues from the Guardians of the Galaxy films. Full of action and adventure, but never onve missing the fact that, at the end of the day, is a story about family.
The comic segment in the TMNT2 part was genuinely so cool
Thanks!
@@rosepinkink3138 Do you have any social media?
So, I didn’t know about Eastman and Laird not liking Bebop and Rocksteady, but another reason they didn’t bring them on was because of rights to characters issues. Probably the same with that cartoon Stockman.
Also, the no weapons and less violence is because of dimwit parents saying the first movie was too dark and violent.
Also, also, the reason it’s TGRI rather than TCRI is because the C is supposed to stand for “Cosmic,” and if they followed the comics more then the turtles would have gone to space and back. They chose to cut that part out because moneys, and instead kept them on Earth. They changed the C to a G since there wasn’t going to be anything Cosmic about the movie.
(I can’t remember what the G stood for. I think it was like Ground or something.)
It's global
Now this is a certified Turtle Classic
Really want Godzilla to cover the newer cgi tmnt films. They were certainly films
Some points about the 2nd film. The scientist isnt baxter because they were planning to reveal him as a krang in a end scene but scrapped it, so they presumably didnt want to change a character later on and refilm parts they had already done. Tokkar and Razar being added instead of rocksteady makes sence as even though they didnt like those characters it would be easier pretending two new characters didnt exist if they werent recieved well and the reason for casey not being in the film is because he wanted more money and they refused to pay him what he wanted
Why can’t they make a CG movie with the 1990’s turtle’s faces/designs? They literally made a Videogame version of them in Injustice 2. It’s just so so dumb to not make them look like that.
that Casey bit was fantastic, I would've loved a movie with this.
You know that the monsters were not gray they're all different colors only the statues are gray and their design was amazing plus the monsters were fun because the turtles get to have cool fights with them I bet you don't remember that the statues betrayed Winters and they are the main antagonists.
James Rolfe/AVGN said EVERYTHING that needed to be said trashing TMNT3, and Turtles In Time was never the subtitle of that film until years later. The movie poster, the VHS tape all simply said TMNT3. They slapped Turtles In Time to Market the movie long after release, because NOBODY liked it. I was 6 when it came out, it killed my interest in TMNT, a friend has same story. Everyone agrees it sucks. So do not give it the dignity of title Turtles In Time, it's just TMNT3. Turtles In Time will always be TMNT2 Turtles In Time Arcade, and TMNT IV Turtles In Time on SNES, by Konami.
4:39 I hate the misconception that the 80’s show INVENTED the turtles personalities and the comic just made them all “the angry one”. They didn’t. The personalities are still there in the mirage comics, they’re just more subtle than the more emphasized portrayals from the cartoon that followed. Leo still makes plans of attack and leads the charge, Raph’s mini series was literally all about his anger management problem, we see Don fiddling with technology as early as issue #2, and Mikey’s mini issue had him adopting a cat and geeking out in a toy store. They’re all still in there even if the mirage comics are more gritty than every other incarnation that came after. You can see it if you pay attention. Same masks ≠ same personality.
The animated film was godly my god I cant stress the love I had for it. Rachael's badass suit was the love of my childhood
28:42 bruh, were they going to do the last Ronin? All their masks are on the ground and it's just Mikey
Growing up in 80’s and 90’s, I think the 90’s Turtles cartoon series was the best. Not sure why you think otherwise.
The craze about Turtles was the highest in that era and which is what lead to the movies.
25:29 "Master Splinter voiced by Bryan Cranston doing an offensive accent"
I want this. Like right now.
12:31 the real secret of the ooze is that it created Daredevil😂
Okay I'll admit that secret of the ooze is not nearly as good as the first one, but that is probably the movie I've seen the most. I'd come to my dad's house go to the basement and say "hey dad, can we watch teenage mutant ninja turtles 2 secret of the ooze?" and for that I hold it much dearer.
TMNT 1990 is my favourite movie of all time, for a whole month I watched it EVERY NIGHT as I went to sleep, to the point that I memorized every line. It perfectly balances gritty seriousness and fun whimsy, something most movies can’t get right nowadays. And despite it not being perfect, I do also love Secret of the Ooze. It’s much sillier but still has lots of the charm.
I swear I watched that 2007 movie so many times its not even funny, but now that I look upon it with a somewhat critical look I gotta agree when you say that the film feels like it's missing pieces to a bigger puzzle
i saw each one in the theater, and i definitely had that growing disappointment you mention. the original film is still amazing, id be compleetely onboard for a legit sequel
to that
Secret of the Ooze is to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1990) what Batman Forever is to Batman (1989), it is more colorful and over the top, but still a lot of fun and enjoyable. Like really good Cotten candy.
I never noticed the eye holes. Why didn’t they just continue the hole or paint it black to match where there aren’t holes so you couldn’t even tell
just a few corrections: they didnt film in hong kong they filmed down south, Louisana i think. but the stunt guys, they were from Hong kong (1st movie) 2n movie they were american. the TCRI/TGRI thing was cuz there was a company with ssame name. kinda like the wwf going to wwe- same reason. I know we all call tmnt 3 - turtles in time, but thats not the title. however it was the title of a video game that came out around same time as 3. the nickname of calling 3 turtles in time only came from us fans..
great job on the video, loved it
From what I understand you can thank parents for the second movie. They absolutely were not happy with how the first movie was. Next thing you know, the turtles cant use their weapons, and the seriousness is cut back...
Mass appeal comes at a cost. Give up too much of what makes your product loved, and you're just left with a mediocre product.
Secret of the Ooze borrowed way too much from the first movie, and bungled the execution. Even just looking at the 'relatable teen' characters, Danny has this really significant arc, where he learns the meaning of family, while Keno learns nothing, and just declares at the end that he learned his lesson. He's just a twerpy pizza boy who does spin kicks...narratively, there's nothing to him. I love Ernie, but they gave him nothing to work with. I liked him better as Donnie's fight double in the first one.
I still miss the 2003 series. That and the 2007 movie are part of a by-gone era that the current holders (Nickelodeon) neglected throughout the 2012 show's run. While many references were made in the newer shows, it's still not fare how Nick only shows off the 80s cartoon, mirage comics, and 90s movies but not acknowledge the 4Kids era. I know Turtles Forever wasn't a solid representation of the classics both in the movie special and behind the scenes, and maybe it was for the best to have the 2012 Turtles to appreciate their 80s counterpart but I still want one last adventure with the 2000s Turtles. One that is satisfying.
I still have hope that maybe they'll make some sort of comeback or perhaps a new show that is in a similar vein in some shape or form. J's Reviews already did a whole retrospective of the 2003 show so check it out.
establish titles is a scam
The fact that a movie with The Weinstein Company logo respects actual Voice Actors enough to cast them as the 4 leads is hilarious...and kinda sad.
They actually confirmed that Professor Perry in TmnT 2 SotO was going to be revealed as an Utrom and have him say that the Ooze was from Dimension X but the film team was worried that the kids wouldn't understand that he wasn't Krang so they droped the idea
23:13 Love the cowboy bebop reference
For me (my head cannon) the 2007 film is a sequal to the 90 film after some time has passed and the 2 films in between just dont exist xD
Actually I think it wasn't that they mistook Leo for one of the monsters it's more that they wanted to make the guy think that they got the last monster because they didn't want to lift the curse.
I honestly think they killed animation in the box office because it's too hard and people want the easiest, quickest way to greed now. CGI animation is a step up from illustration in terms of labor. You can have 3 animators instead of 20 or however many they used to have back in the day on those Fern Gully movies.
"We garauntee an ass kicking in 30 minutes or less". Lol. Good stuff there. I could see casey saying that
But we gotta admit, The Rise of the TMNT movie is definitely the best TMNT movie in years
In Secret of the Ooze, when D-atello chases after that guy in the toy stare, his walk makes me want to kiss his heels. And I want to ask the foot clan guy who caught the ooze “ aren’t you a little fat to be a foot clan ninja?” 😂😂😂
dude the guy on the moped in the Donnie suit is Steven Ho not Ernie Reyes Jr lol. Steven Ho did the Donny stunt work on part 2.
Can’t wait for part two of this in 2 years
The 1990 film is and always will be the definitive and best TMNT movie due to it staying true to the original source material. Secret of the Ooze did had a few good bits but its just not as good as the first one due to it being too kid friendly. The third one was a absolute mess the biggest mistake being the whole time travel plot and bad jokes. The 2007 film was good but its only problem being the Villains just being to bland and I think they should brought in any villain from the comics like Stockman or the Tricertons.
I love TMNT 2 just how I love Ghostbusters 2. People crap on the sequels but they're 10x better than their follow ups.
Bebop and Rocksteady were created for the show. The movie rights couldn't take characters from the show.
In my opinion the first movie remains the best of the Ninja Turtles movies. It’s possible a new movie could rival it but I seriously doubt it
I loved the 1st Michael Bay new version of Turtles then just like Transformers they didn't continue the direction they were going. So it really annoyed me they changed Shredder and rushed it.
They want inspiration?! These directors need to spend more time reading through the fanfiction written by the fans. They want to know what the fans want?! The dedicated fans have done the work for them!! They are literally saying, "this is it! Here it is... This is what we want in a story line. In the characters. In the villain and motives."
Instead we get... Michael Bay 😩
Your review of secret of the ooze is a bunch of nitpicking. I think the movie is a lot better than what you said. It's a good adaptation of the animated series. Even when the characters would use other objects and not use their weapons, that happened in the later episodes of the animated series. It's a fun time and a good sequel not as good as the first one but it still gets like an 8. Tokka and Rahzar are awesome. It has good action and it's a funny movie plus the ending is so underated. People always say that the ending is bad just because the turtles didn't get to fight Super Shredder but they did get to fight the normal Shredder and kill him with a keytar. Super shredder had an awesome design. The reason that super shredder died is because the mutagen turned him into a monster but the wood doc falling on him buried him and he probably drowned in the water.
TMNT 1990, TMNT 2007 and Rise of the TMNT Movie are my favorite ones. Cowabunga!
I watched all the TMNT movies in theaters when I was a kid. I watched the cartoon and played all the video games back then (in the early 90s) I was born in 1983. The first TMNT movie is still the best one
I liked TMNT 2. I didn't like shredders death in the second. I think it was overly rushed
I liked TMNT 3 as a kid but as an adult I thought it was kind of ok.
The turtles in time game I absolutely loved
The CGI movie I liked.
I didn't even want to SEE the Micheal Bay reboot
It looked bad, imo
But I respect the people that liked it
Tmnt90 had it all, it shocked everyone how dark and story driven it was but still was great action. Perfect and the best cartoon film ever. Part 2 was weird but worked at the time. The movie was all over but fun. Three killed it. I remember how great they were then went and was so sad it sucked and I was young. It hurt me deep. Lol
Looking back on it now, the first TMNT movie from 1990 is the equivalent of the Mario Movie that was released a few months ago. Not only did the original creators work on it, but both are Rotten Tomatoes’ worst enemy when it comes to audience vs critics
Secret of the Ooze is my favorite in the movie series
11:56 "I mAde AnOtheR fUnnY" had me dying
I kinda wanna see a cowboy bebop retrospective now that you made that reference
(No, not the new one)
The antagonists were the 4 stone people they purposefully got Leo instead of the final monster to trick the immortal dude so they can remain alive once they figured out the immortal dude’s plan
I didn’t care for the TMNT3 and I surely didn’t care for the 2007 version
I loved your idea for TMNT 2 with Casey in the intro! I hope someday someone makes THAT movie. Or comic.
They did a really good job with the 2007 one. That went darker again.
25:33 well Bryan Cranston used to voice act tho
In the street fighter 2 animated movie English dub he was fei long
This was an excellent review!!
I never knew that OG Tmnt 1990 was a mix of the 1987 Cartoon Series and a few original Mirage Comic's storylines, brought together into one great simple 3-play live-action low-budget independent film!! It shows that those involved were professionals, and, that they respected and loved the Source Materials!! Makes me cherish the 1990 Tmnt Movie even more now!! It really was and is Special!!
At 20:51 it looks like Donatello is saying the words.
Tmnt 2007 was my introduction to the TMNT franchise and for years i thought it was apart of the 2003 universe.
Nostalgia critic: he sounds like Mr Miyagi if he smoked a million Marlboros
If not for the first 2 movies none of the following series would try serious tones similar to original comics they would have been more like the 80's cartoon now most people agree the best turtles are a good mix of action, drama and comedy and sometimes adding horror and science fiction tropes
Okay I unironically jam out to the turtle power rap

I'd have really loved to see a second animated film based on that awesome fucking poster alone.

The Foot clan is often disregarded because the Shredder's beaten and stated 'dead', the 13 monsters aren't colored gray and they're basically animals, and Ethan Winter's whole operation was mistaken by the TMNT group to be a conquest initiation, until the generals made it to be the case.
