    great attitude .all that info you gave is what makes fishing fun the fish is a free bonus. education isnt free. a bad day fishing is better than a good day at work. Peace from Alberta Canada.

    i really appreciate this video especially with you sharing there will be disappointing moments. Now I know I'm not the only one. really great video. I have shared this video with so many of my fishing friends especially the newbies who get disappointed when they don't catch or lose a fish. Keep up the great work.

    Noob question here: What is whipping and plugging? is it reeling in while jerking = whipping and long rod sweeps = plugging? Btw you should totally do a lures review video since i notice you have so many of them in the background!

    Aloha! Awesome video bud. Just a quick note about leader length. I use a 12ft leader on my med/heavy 9'6" plugging rod and tie my braid to my mono/flouro leader with the FG knot. Using this knot means I have a good distance between my mainline and lure, plus the added benefit of not having the braid over my finger when banging out big casts.

    I subscribed to you just based on the end of this video, the part where you said "it's called fishing, not catching" and the part where you said "you don't see behind the scenes" because I watch multiple videos and it always seems like hookup here, hanapa'a there... anyway thanks for the 411, would love to fish with you if you ever on Oahu or if I'm on Maui? Aloha

    Probably a silly question.
    Hi, just wondering, if i have a leader 80 lbs and a main line 40 lb. If my lure gets stuck, I guess the main line will break? What do i do next? Splice the line or change out the whole thing?

    Just picked up a couple of the yozuri mag darters and couple sp minnows. For your leader when plugging, do you use fluorocarbon? I have 30 pound braid main line and have been using 40-60 pound mono...i feel like probably more bites with the fluoro? Love your vids. thanks

    Daiwa sp bullet is pretty good for shallow water.

      Yes good lure. Its has a good weight to it so you can throw it farther. Will test run those diawa and see how they perform in the wind and see if they catch.

    I have a question about plugging. Which is better? Shimano Spheros or Saragosa? This has been a long debate over the forums. What are your thoughts? Thanks!

    How do you distinguish between a pole for plugging, whipping, or dunking?

    • @islandhooking1936
      @islandhooking1936  7 років тому +2

      Good question lots of it has to do with the feel of the pole. That's why most fisherman have to hold it first to know if the pole is what they are looking for and even then sometimes once you try it out you may find that the pole is not the right one. So with that said main thing you understand its not full proof but it gets better with experience. For whipping I like my poles a little stiff with a nice bend at the tip but kinda soft to give the lure some tip action and to save your arm from working out hard, just let the tip do most of the work. For plugging I prefer a stiffer pole med to heavy depends how heavy your lures are the stiffer the pole should be. But keep in mind your arms will get sore and tired because of the heavier, taller pole and lures. For dunking I have poles from 8ft up to 12ft med heavy with bigger eyes on them. The pole size will determine on what kind of fish you want to catch and how big. Also how tall you are and how strong you are as well as skillful. But trust me when you buy a pole in time you'll know what you need through experience and you'll go and buy lots of poles and reels until you find the right ones.. The guys at the fishing store can also help you in finding a set up that will work, just tell them what you are looking for and they will be happy to lend a hand.

      @islandhooking1936  7 років тому

    Can you use A menpachi pole? I have a 8-9foot pole? And it's flexible? But I never did use it?

    • @islandhooking1936
      @islandhooking1936  7 років тому +1

      Hi Falisha,
      Yes you can use just about any pole even the one you have. It all depends on what your trying to catch and how big the fish you want to get will determine if your pole is the right size. Also your reel and line will have to match what your trying to catch. So right now you have to figure out what kind of fishing you want to do? Do you want to whip? Dunk? or Float? Next question what kind of fish? Papio, Lai, Menpachi? and so on. Then do you want to catch 1lb fish 2,3,4,5lb? Once you get those info then you'll be able to know your poles limitations are and what kinds of fish you can target.

      Island Hooking thank you.... and I wanna go for the menpachi? I always try but I think I'm do my something wrong? What do you use for menpachi? And night?? I know it's the glow worm? Right?

    • @falishakahele5183
      @falishakahele5183 7 років тому +1

      Also Papio?

    • @islandhooking1936
      @islandhooking1936  7 років тому +1

      Yes pretty much any glow grub will work I use the smallest one they have. Also Menpachi feathers works great. You can also visit the fishing store and ask them which grub to use, they usually know what hot and what's not. I also use barrel lead and a glow stick and sometimes battery operated floater and some shrimp as bait. I heard of people using the Hammer Bomb floater the glow ones too.
      For the Papio Campania lures are awesome! I use the opae and the Cleopatra ones. The aqua silver strips are great as well as the white feathers and Big island baits.

    What kind of terrain should i look for if im targeting 10-20lb omilus

    • @islandhooking1936
      @islandhooking1936  7 років тому +4

      Reef areas are good, but they do swim sandy areas as well. You just have to know what side of the island they'll be swimming and hanging out. Also know when the seasons are and a bit of luck.
