Like the idea of using a punch to help seat / retain the carrier bearing. I had this happen on my front D60... ended up welding around the smooth spot where the bearing sits and then went to machine shop to have them turn it back down to spec.
Weren't the Appalachian folks from Scotland ? Lol.. you two were killing me and the look on poor Walter... priceless... not more broken parts $$$$... Well the Mischief Maker is living up to the Jeep acronym Just Empty Every Pocket ! I had a 56 Willy's back in the 70's... loved that ol' gal but she was a constant expense of repairs. Isn't fourwheeling fun ... Always enjoy watching... life is to short to not have fun.
I've never had the green but I can confirm the blue Loctite is a little sweet. I'm from western PA so it must be a regional thing. I approve of the Appalachian dialect in this video.
No, the green LT is for wicking into already assembled parts. Not to be used for assembly. BTW it tastes sweet because of the cyanoacrylate. Pretty toxic. Tasting it is a good indicator that you are using too much of it in places you shouldn't.
i live in bolivar ohio about 5 minutes south of canton there some good strip mine trails there wish i could show you guys around our local spots and wellsville
As a life long resident of Appalachia ,you can go from one holler cross the mtn to another completely different accent . My uncle grew up about 50 miles further south than us ,and he talked just like boomhauer from king of the hill.
I kinda find it funny that someone from Scotland has trouble with the Appalachian accent being the early settlers of that area were Scots and Irish predominantly
When the man peened the fit surface a more aggressive way to do that is to tap a metal file with a hammer against it. That method is used when the parts are on there end of life cycle, but it's a really good hold from spinning.
The gentleman knew his stuff, especially what he was trying to say at the end of the video about starting with a new housing, but he was cut short. New housing means nothing to go off of.
I hate crush sleeves. I always either replace them or machine a piece for every rear end I do. I have seen crush sleeves fail and cause pinion vibration where the yoke is welded to the bearing.
A failure point on axles spacers and shims so much more reliable. Quite possibly one of the reasons the D35 failed in past so much besides trying to run 33s and larger tires.
Hollie its funny you said a hair, I have measured a human hair it is about .003 of an inch. On average…I have worked in machine shops since the early 70’s. Yup I am that old. keep up the great content..
man me and jason have and his nephew scotty jackson have done a lot of wheelin in wellsville and our local spot we call ullet what a small world he actually helped build my friend jeffs xj years ago and his sami with a doubler its crick
Hey and Walter, I leaned somtin new today wen I watched your video, but it wasn’t the installation of the ring and pinion! It was the new word of the day “Krick” that was a kicker in the patootie 😂as always happy trails to wherever ya go peace ✌️
Ok it depends on what neck of the woods you grow up in. Around south central Ontario Canada we call them all of the names, crick is a bit smaller and shallower than a creek sometimes but I think that it mainly depends on how deep they are next is a stream. And so forth.
Maybe you can get a little more wheel time in before it breaks again. I saw my son Jeremy and his wife Kim's videos of the ride in Harlan and it looked pretty awesome. Thanks for helping them have a good time.
Fun fact. My former hometown of Kirksville Missouri is the origin of the derogatory term of “shit cricker”. Probably coined by an Appalachian transplant homesteader. Hahahaha!
Hollie, don't you just love the various accents that America has to offer😂 Hopefully your rear axle is now correctly set up and will last you a full season of trail rides. It was nice seeing Walter in a video again.
👍👍 Hello Lovely Hollie, with the giveaway Jeep are you putting your spare on it that matches the rims and tires or getting new ones? I remember you saying you like the alum. ones better? Enjoy
Differentials, Transfer cases, gear boxes, etc were some of the things I worked on before I retired. I was always afraid to let a customer see how we actually do this type of work fearing they would freak out at the fact that we bashed at it with hammers and pry bars and sometimes weren't anywhere near gentle. Most of the (younger) people I taught and passed my skills on to did. "You're kidding, right? Hit it with a hammer? Seriously?!?!" Not kidding. Whack it! Or throw it in the oven with the cake you're baking and it'll slip right on. "Bake it? With a cake? Now I know you're kidding." Chocolate, please.
All machines break eventually. Sometimes, with the right amount of fun being had, they may break a bit sooner than later!! LOL!! It's super cool that you want to know how everything works. Hope you get it done and have a super good time on the trails!!
If there's a mechanic that is putting green lock tight you have some pretty serious problems green Loctite is designed as a temporary fix for some very wore out parts
I find it funny that most American Appalachian people are decent from Irish and Scottish people, and you can't understand him? 😆 My ex wife was from Dublin and I never knew what the hell she was saying or talking about? She call our Jeep a " Lurry " and the cabinet a " Press " all sorts of weird shyt, and I thought women from the old country were so different, they're not, you're all nutz!
Just as long no don’t have the same problem again in that gearing within months I say making sure it’s done right takes some time if that made sense. 🤙🤞🥺
I didn't see you taking any notes. Are you counting on using this video so you can do this yourself next time ? 😏 I've seen you do other repairs so there's no reason you can't do this one, right ?
I think we ended up with 3 rows of those little dots. The lower portion of that Locker’s case will be warranted by ARB, so we’ll have to remove it and replace the carrier bearing on that side (at some point soon)
Guys got skills!
Watching from 🏴
Thanks for sharing 👍😀
Dang Hollie, that's some major league surgery!!! Big time impressive!!
Walter had the right idea. Comfy chair and a cold beer!!
Its cool to have the right friends Hollie. Looks like the MISCHIEFMAKER getting a well do overhauling. Tell Walter hi
Thanks have a good day
Like the idea of using a punch to help seat / retain the carrier bearing. I had this happen on my front D60... ended up welding around the smooth spot where the bearing sits and then went to machine shop to have them turn it back down to spec.
Hope you enjoyed your time in "the Heart of it All!" Sorry I didn't hang around in Canton when you were there.
ole jason adams great dude right there
Weren't the Appalachian folks from Scotland ? Lol.. you two were killing me and the look on poor Walter... priceless... not more broken parts

Good content
Ok ok I’ll watch it 👍👍🐶
2:47 - Walter demonstrating his superior 'Supervisory' skills
Yes "would like to see also!" Thanks for sharing...great seeing the both of you together, with friends...Have a great time in Ohio.
Oh and btw..how lucky you all were to get out before the flooding all around SE Kentucky!! ✌🐢
"and you think crik is a strange word" ...priceless
Good to see the diff work being done professionally 😀
Come on Hollie you come from a country where accents change from town to town 😂🏴
Am from GA and understood the feller with the southern draw great video and keep up the good work and God bless from GA
Ah man, you end the video early. I was totally into that. Get'n learned
A bunch of ole boys helping out nice video Hollie
I watched this and everything..these guy's DID...you can TRUST them 👍🛠 thay KNOW WHAT thay are DOING 👍VERY professional 🛠👍😁🍻
i am all geared up up for the next show!!
Battle of the accents
The green stuff (loktite 290) will penetrate after assembly, works best with primer T or N
I've never had the green but I can confirm the blue Loctite is a little sweet. I'm from western PA so it must be a regional thing. I approve of the Appalachian dialect in this video.
😂
We use blue Locktite so that it will stay together, red Locktite so that it can't ever come apart, no matter what.
No, the green LT is for wicking into already assembled parts. Not to be used for assembly. BTW it tastes sweet because of the cyanoacrylate. Pretty toxic. Tasting it is a good indicator that you are using too much of it in places you shouldn't.
Gears are a labor of love. Did you say you got a new front axle?
Excellent explanation of the pinion adjustment, all the best to yous and your loved ones
i live in bolivar ohio about 5 minutes south of canton there some good strip mine trails there wish i could show you guys around our local spots and wellsville
Lol, on the next video, Hollie and Walter taste test the different flavors of Loctite. 😜
👍👍
As a life long resident of Appalachia ,you can go from one holler cross the mtn to another completely different accent . My uncle grew up about 50 miles further south than us ,and he talked just like boomhauer from king of the hill.
What broken pinion? It is totally F.I.N.E.! 😂😁😇
I kinda find it funny that someone from Scotland has trouble with the Appalachian accent being the early settlers of that area were Scots and Irish predominantly
Sorry Hollie, a crick is a crick is a crick, a creek would be , in my world, a larger version of a crick, but not quite a river.
rebuild 💙💙💙 nice.
In West Virginia it is called a crick!😁
When the man peened the fit surface a more aggressive way to do that is to tap a metal file with a hammer against it. That method is used when the parts are on there end of life cycle, but it's a really good hold from spinning.
Its the creek. 🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
The gentleman knew his stuff, especially what he was trying to say at the end of the video about starting with a new housing, but he was cut short. New housing means nothing to go off of.
What’s up Girl good to see ya! 🇺🇸♥️🏴💙
Hollie doesn't need an ls swap. She's breaking built 1 tons already lol
They sound perfectly normal to me. But you're actually in North Canton. I'm from about 15 miles south of there where the accent is a little thicker. 🤣
The knowlage to do gears is worth it's weight in ...gear oil. Those guys are hillarious!
😀
I hate crush sleeves. I always either replace them or machine a piece for every rear end I do. I have seen crush sleeves fail and cause pinion vibration where the yoke is welded to the bearing.
Just a way to cheapen initial assembly, that;'s all they are. Saves Dana 20 cents an axle.
They have a use and used properly they work properly
A failure point on axles spacers and shims so much more reliable. Quite possibly one of the reasons the D35 failed in past so much besides trying to run 33s and larger tires.
Oh well, at least Mischief Maker really looks good. .... ;)
They need to invest in a axel spreader makes the job go a lot easier and faster
What manufacturer is this housing? As I recall your old one was an ultimate dana 60?
What brand were the damaged gears?
Well we in NE Kentucky don't say crick...we say creek!! LOL most of us anyway! ✌🐢
Hollie its funny you said a hair, I have measured a human hair it is about .003 of an inch. On average…I have worked in machine shops since the early 70’s. Yup I am that old. keep up the great content..
Can't wait to see the video mischief maker is not a trailer queen
Glad you're fixing it. Enough rocks and those breaks happen
man me and jason have and his nephew scotty jackson have done a lot of wheelin in wellsville and our local spot we call ullet what a small world he actually helped build my friend jeffs xj years ago and his sami with a doubler its crick
I'm sittin here laughing my but off cause my friends never heard crick till I came around
I'm from NY, everywhere we go, no one understands what we're saying? I get "What" or "Say that again?" 😆

Thought the give away jeep buildup was done robbie Layton channel
A Scottish lassie mets good ole Southern boys. At least ya all communicate better than the VP can !
🤣

Kind put a few dings in those gears didn't you!
Hey Hollie good to see the blue jeep is getting some tlc before you take it out on the rough trails aloha
Wow,that would be a video, Mischief Maker in Hawaii
This is obviously how it should be done, and I'm impressed.
Hollie - I love that you explore and mix English dialects with complicated mechanics!
The winch shackel thing aint straight on the give away jeep 😐 idk who noticed that but i seen that before the jeep 🤣
VERY COOL VIDEO! Could of watched the whole process between being funny entertaining & explaining things. Good luck on new diff & axles!
5to6 times every time 😭😭

How did that damage happen? When the axle broke and got spit out? No, wait a minute, that was the back axle! Hmmmmm . . . . . .
Never ask what else can go wrong. You will get the answer in a quick hurry.
I heard Vice Grip , in the back ground. And I hate doing gears.
Hey Hollie, I get all my backlash from my wife, it's how I know I have made a bad decision. I don't know how I would do that with shims. :)
Hollie, Didn't know the front axle was giving grief also!
The rear broken axle already repaired?
Lets see what happened to the rear end. Surprised at front end damage
MM blew chunks! Too much party! Nah.....
If there's a mechanic that is putting green lock tight you have some pretty serious problems green Loctite is designed as a temporary fix for some very wore out parts
You need to learn our way of talking Holly.
YOU SHOULD HAVE Paul Cox of Fab Rats check your axels gears. He knows what he's doing, He is really sharp when it comes to GEARS.
PUT
He is half a continent away !
🤔
@@rattles3044 Not really. Paul is based in Utah. When Hollie isn’t here on the East Coast, she’s based in Utah.
@@sonnicman she ain't in Utah and has more events on this side of the continent.
🤔
It's a Jeep thing 😊
Flooding in ky it’s bad8 dead
IT'S A CRICK!!! 😆😆😆. Not a creek. 😉

What we call water down here in Louisiana. "Bayou" if you hitting it with hammer that hard your not doing it right. Grab a purse instead.

Some much needed TLC by some genuine good ol’ boys. Love the details!
Wash it off put electrical tape on it go on
You just stop the video while he's explaining something?
not enough peening
