@@reading_faerie WOW! I certainly didn't think I would get a response so quickly. I will keep my Kindle for purchasing books if I don't find it anywhere else, but I want my Kobo to be my main device. Thanks again :)
I’m not sure if there is a way to transfer highlights :\ I didn’t use the annotation feature much on my kindle. I think my friend said she exports her highlights somehow? You may be able to export them to look at but I don’t know if it’ll transfer over! Sorry!!

And what about bonus content from authors that you can download on your e-reader? Thank you for this video. I'm definitely going to start this. It's daunting though, i have over 1100 books on my Kindle 😳😬
Bonus content should also be fine! Any downloadable book file format will upload to calibre! I preordered the third poppy war so I have the preorder short stories from back then and loaded them on my kobo :) I’ve also downloaded bookfunnel books as well, idk what booksprout is but I’m assuming if you can download it then it’s the same process!

I have thousands of Kindle books that I have purchased over the last 10 years, but I have not moved them all as I have upgraded devices several times.
You *might* be able to plug your kindle in while you have Calibre open and copy them to your Calibre library but for some books you might still need to visit the Amazon desktop website and “download & transfer via USB” like in my video! But I did also manage to copy over 2 arcs I had gotten from NetGalley this way (by plugging my kindle in to my pc) before I realized I could download the NetGalley books directly so I would imagine it would be similar for you, just make sure you eject either device before unplugging from the computer!!
I might have missed it.. but will the book remain on the kindle ALSO? I have two kindles right now (sharing library with my Mom). Will I no longer be able to access kindle books on a kindle after transferring to Kobo? Will a copy remain?🦆
Yes a digital copy will remove you’re just copying over the kindle file you’ve paid for and converting it to also be read on kobo but that won’t remove it from your kindle library 💗
I haven’t decided to go with the Kobo yet, but I do want to transfer my books to my computer for the time being. Would I still switch the file type to kepub in this case? Or would I wait to change the file type after I decide to switch to Kobo? This is all so new to me so forgive me if this question is silly. Thank you!
@@NightingaleNews you can keep it as epub! I just do mine automatically because I’m switching to the Kobo device :) but whatever your preference is is fine
I’m not entirely sure tbh I never really used the notes features on kindle because the keyboard is so laggy lol but I’m sure there are other videos that mention it 😩 I’m sorry
I don’t think so because when you plug the kobo in it’s like a USB drive sort of and you load them on. If you can plug your tablet in like a USB maybe but I have no idea how you can get them on the app unless you buy them.
7:35 I'm stuck at where I go into my amazon account and download via usb. It is saying...'You do not have any compatible devices registered for this content. Buy a Kindle or get the free Kindle reading app.' I do have a kindle though. Do you know if there is something I have to enable so I can download the book.
Is the kindle registered to your Amazon account? I would just make sure it’s registered to whatever account you bought the books on. If that’s not working try plugging your kindle in via USB and on calibre go to the “device” tab at the top and you can highlight all the books you have and send them to calibre library. If you have any KU books on there it will probably ask you to skip those ones but most books should also be able to be moved over that way.
There is probably some convoluted way to do it but I genuinely have no idea. Since I use my phone or iPad for audiobooks I haven’t even tried! I’m sorry

I am not transferring to a different book reader from Kindle, but I do want to download the books I have paid for from Amazon, so I am not at their mercy should something happen. I followed all your steps, which you went through very fast, by the way: 1 Calibre, 2 deDRM, 3 extract DeDRM, 4 Install Calibre, 5 preferences - plugins, 6 file type and customize, 7 eink, added my serial number and applied, 8 loaded a downloaded book into calibre, and 9 covert to epub. I get a pop-up saying my book is locked by DRM. Did I miss something? Does the plugin work automatically, or do I have to select something more?
It won’t remove DRM from kindle unlimited titles for some reason but this should work for all over books you have paid for through Amazon. Again excluding the KU books. If it’s not working for ANY books double check that you’ve properly extracted the DeDRM plug in and loaded the correct plug in file. Sorry about going too fast, luckily videos on UA-cam have a pause button :)
@@kisili7319 you could also try putting the books with this problem into adobe digital editions and then save the book again from adobe like in my video and drag it over? I haven’t had this problem and I did look a little but I’m not sure how to solve it unfortunately

i havent had to do this process without a serial number so im not 100% of the steps or if its as easy at it seems, but heres a video i found for you that should help :) ua-cam.com/video/TIjvNB2Ojk0/v-deo.html
Make sure you’re adding your kindle serial number that they are locked to? And if you don’t have an old kindle device with a serial number this won’t work for you check my pinned comment for some other videos
Also try putting them into adobe digital editions and then following the way I did with the NetGalley books? But you also cannot do this method with Kindle Unlimited books you have to purchase the ebook separately from the KU Subscription
Did you follow all the steps with the DeDRM plug in? If you’re trying to move over a book from Kindle Unlimited that you haven’t purchased separately you can’t move those books over.
@@kathrinaangela1985 try dragging and dropping that book into adobe digital editions first and doing it that way like how I show to do the NetGalley books. But if that doesn’t work then I’m not sure because all my purchased books have moved over fine :\ I’m sorry!

I’m not entirely sure tbh I never really used the notes features on kindle because the keyboard is so laggy lol but I’m sure there are other videos that mention it 😩 I’m sorry
Can this also be done with Apple Books that I have bought?
I honestly have no idea but if you can download it as a file to your computer then probably? But again I’m not sure :(
Does this work on a tablet? I have a Kobo app but not a Kobo device.
Hope this isn’t a dumb question.- can I transfer my audible books to Kobo as well?
There is probably some convoluted way to do it but I genuinely have no idea. Since I use my phone or iPad for audiobooks I haven’t even tried! I’m sorry
dzięki ;) 🦆
every time I reach to customize plugin my Mac calibre application crashes and the app closes on its own :( Any idea what I can do? I have the most recent update for Calibre
@@Hadoyful I’m not sure since I don’t have Mac! But here’s a video from a Mac user who is using Calibre that might help you if there’s anything you need to do differently 💗

Hey is there a way to do this but for play books? I used to read on my phone and got soooo many books but i cant get them on my kobo
@@milliehensler3283 I don’t know because I have no experience with play books, however if you can find a way to download them then it would most likely work? But again im not sure!
I try this on mac, i install the plugin fine but when i reopen to customize it, calibre just crashes.
I’m sorry I don’t have a Mac so I’m not sure if the steps are 100% the same! Here’s a video from a Mac user that I definitely used during part of my hunting for the full pc process that should help you!

(Even if you’ve paid for the KU book as an ebook something about the book file set up for KU prevents the DeDRM from working)
@@reading_faerie Ok, thanks. I don't have KU, so that shouldn't be my problem. I'll try a few more titles and experiment a bit more
@@kisili7319 you could also try putting the books with this problem into adobe digital editions and then save the book again from adobe like in my video and drag it over? I haven’t had this problem and I did look a little but I’m not sure how to solve it unfortunately
AHH!! THANK YOU THANK YOU! While I won't lie-- it would have been a heck of a lot easier if you did it WITH us, rather than I did it already, I did it already, but I still thank you! You' don't assume we're all good at computers and files or downloads or whatever the heck the term is LoL .
I’m sorry for some of the “I did it already” stuff but I didn’t want to have to delete everything and start over since I was going off of notes I had written down and especially for my serial number I didn’t want to show that part lol but I’m glad I could help 💗 I needed a tutorial that dumbed it down to easier terms and didn’t find one so that was my goal!
Does this still work??? I am getting an error message for Calibre cannot convert it.
It’s still working for me and a few other people commented today saying it worked for them, double check you’ve followed all steps properly and this also won’t work if you’re trying to move over a Kindle Unlimited book because you didn’t purchase that one it’s not locked to your device it’ll have a different kind of DRM lock on it I think as far as I can tell
Does ANYONE know why the first 4 letters of each word in my book is bolded? Idk how to change or fix it.
Is it the title or the text inside the book itself?
“…then thanks for watching and see you later” 🤣
😂 but was I wrong though hahah
Ok I’m at the part where I need to enter the serial number. I don’t have an actual kindle device just the app on my phone … can I still do this ???
i havent had to do this process without a serial number so im not 100% of the steps or if its as easy at it seems, but heres a video i found for you that should help :)

Also 🦆because I definitely added a comment before finishing the video hahaha
😆 me too
🦆 ❤
Does this remove the books from the Kindle or is this just copying them to Kobo?
Just copying
Ok so how do I get all my book thumbnails the same size because I’ve tried everything. Resize cover polish all that
lol no idea. Mine are not all the same size
@@reading_faerie literally driving me insane
@@Di2ZY it bothered me at first but all the books on my shelves are not the same height either so I just gave up lol sorry
🦆🦆 Have a brilliant day!
Thank you! You too 😊
I followed EVERYTHING and I get an error when converting. "You can't convert ebooks with a DRM."
I'm getting an error that says my drm is locked :( do you know how to fix?
Did you follow all the steps with the DeDRM plug in? If you’re trying to move over a book from Kindle Unlimited that you haven’t purchased separately you can’t move those books over.
@@reading_faerie yes i followed everything :( the book i'm trying to move is a purchased book.
@@kathrinaangela1985 try dragging and dropping that book into adobe digital editions first and doing it that way like how I show to do the NetGalley books. But if that doesn’t work then I’m not sure because all my purchased books have moved over fine :\ I’m sorry!
@@reading_faerie it still doesn't work :( I just got my kobo today :(
🐤
Wasn't able to download the plug in
Which one?
