🧘🏻♀️ I don’t need a Kobo Libra Colour. I don’t need a Kobo Libra Colour. I don’t need a Kobo Libra Colour. 🧘🏻♀️😂 Just cause I already have a Kindle and a Fire tablet for graphic books and color highlights. Can’t wait for the Notion video and thank you so much for this one ❤
Haha it does seem like you’re pretty set already 😂 maybe you’ll go Kobo Libra Colour when you need to replace your kindle or fire tablet at some point!
@@PlantBasedBride definitely!
Ahaha same, I don't need a Kobo Libra Colour buuuuuut... Let's just say that if my kindle unexpectedly dies I won't be too sad about it😂
Thank God there’s no Kobo Libra Color in my country. ))))
Same… 😉
I have ADHD, which means I unintentionally speed-read, miss half the text, and immediately forget the plot after I've finished the book (if I even got through it in the first place).
I also can't bear to write in my physical copies of books.
I feel like this will be a game changer, forcing me to engage with the text more and changing what the reading experience is like for me. I can't wait to get this e-reader!
I have the same problem hehe
Thank you so much for sharing your process. I’m not big on annotations unless I’m reading to learn but just a couple of things for kindle users that weren’t mentioned. You can create notes (almost like a post it) when you highlight something select a portion of it and an icon will pop up on a pen and a square paper, click on that and you can type in a note. Second, if you use the kindle app (not the actual kindle device) you can highlight in different colors so when I’m reading something for learning (like a nonfiction book), I’ll read it on my iPad or phone so that i can use different highlight colors. Not as streamlined as with the Kobo it i good work around for people who are really wanting to highlight in different colors but doesn’t want to purchase another device. Thanks again for the great video!
Thank you for these tips! I showed the kindle app in the video but didn’t demonstrate the notes feature because honestly I was never inclined to use it! But it’s great to point it out because it might be perfect for some readers ❤️
I actually prefer to annotate digitally! I don't feel like I'm "ruining" the book or anything (yup, I'm one of those... 🙄) I prefer to note in my journal things that have left a strong impression and I actually note the quotes that are inspiring in a book of its own! 😂
I do love your system! So far, still a purist: only highlight in yellow... But I did buy those transparent post it! I'm getting there!!! 🤦♀️
Haha I love this! Hey, if it works for you it works 😂 and our systems can change over time and that’s cool, too ❤️
I use a Kindle Oasis to read my ebooks but i’m glad to see that companies are starting to make color e-ink! One thing that I thought was really cool is about the bookmarking in ebooks. I have only been using the bookmark feature to mark where I left off, like if I’m reading before bed and i’m getting too tired to keep going them I add the bookmark so I don’t lose my page, but watching this video, I would have never thought to use it in a different way, in addition to marking where I left off… using it to bookmark where your annotations are. That is a brilliant idea that I don’t know why I haven’t thought of that! That is literally soooo cool! Thank you for sharing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You read 150 books a year?!! Unbelievable! Since your annotating makes book reading 2-3x as long, it is like a normal person reading 300+ a year. Your annotation videos are the most comprehensive I've found on UA-cam. Great job. Congrats!
Well, to be fair, I don’t annotate every book heavily and I don’t annotate all parts of a book equally, either! Sometimes I read a few chapters with nary a highlight in sight, and then read one chapter highlighting almost every word and adding a bunch of extra notes 😂 I also love audiobooks, so I’m able to listen while I do chores and work!
This is perfect. I just bought literally today my Kobo Libra Colour!
Oh how exciting!! I hope this video helped you learn some of the basics for using it to its full potential 🥰
Also it’s really helpful for those who like nonfiction workbooks ‘cause not even on the kindle scribe we’re able to write literally ON the book page (just on PDF but it’s never the same as buying or downloading your own books as an ebook format) and that’s a game changer! I’m glad there’s people like you that really enjoy writing on the pages!
Thank you so much for your tips! I recently started annotating my books because of you. I absolutely fell in love with it.
I love hearing this 🥹 I’m so glad you’re enjoying annotating! ❤️❤️❤️
Great review. Everyone is talking about color for book covers and comics/manga, but I only wanted it for the annotation. Very informative. Thanks.
This is so cool. I never knew I needed this
Love this! Thanks so much ❤
Thank you so much for posting this! I read primarily ebooks and will use your tips for annotating my books.
I’m so glad this was helpful for you! I used to avoid reading ebooks but I’m starting to really enjoy it now ❤️ there are so many benefits to reading digitally!
Great video! I have started to read more recently and was searching for a systematic way of annotating. You are talking about it so passionately that I can't wait until I start creating a key for the next book I'm reading. Thank you! I am also currently waiting for my Kobo Libra Colour to arrive and now my excitement increased even more haha
it's the best video guideline for Libra colour. thanks.
You're most welcome!
Thank you for sharing your process. I have occasionally highlighted a quote in my Kindle App but love the idea of making more meaningful notes and quotes so I’m going to give it a go. Really thoughtful and interesting video. ❤
Thank you ☺️ I’m so glad the video was interesting and helpful! ❤️
This video is perfect timing. My daughter recently took over my tablet. My husband offered to get me a Kobo Color since hes heard so many good things about it. I was very hesitant on it. This helped me understand how to use it's potential.
Oh awesome, that is perfect timing! I’m happy to help ☺️ there are even more awesome features I didn’t mention in this video, but I tried to give a good overview ❤️
I wish I was into annotating fictional books! I primarily read fiction in order to relax, so I typically just want to become absorbed into the story, and don't really feel the need to focus on what I'm reading beyond that. However I feel like it could be really helpful, especially when I'm reading books where I get confused if there's a lot of different characters, etc.
In saying that though, I love reading my non-fiction books! I use my non-fiction books for learning, so annotating them is really helpful! I usually just use a frixion pen or marker (so I can get rid of what I've done if I ever want to donate it later), but I should probably start using tabs as well. I usually annotate and then when I've finished I write up an overview of my notes, since I'm pretty good with remembering things I've learnt that is valuable to me.
Yayyyy so excited to see this.❤️❤️❤️ My Nook has literally separated at the seam, and I keep using it! 😂 also thank you for sharing your nail polish color.
This was great! Thank you! I am looking forward to the "Annotating Audiobooks" 🎧😊
oooh this is fascinating 🥰
Great topic!
I can’t wait to get a Kobo Libra Colour. I am always highlighting and taking notes reading and can’t wait to do it all on that.
It's so good! I bet you'll love it ❤️
Amazing, I definitely get mine soon, though I already got my oasis 3 and love it, lol😂
THANK YOU! There are so many reviews and such out there for the Libra Colour and they all seem to focus mostly on colour. But what I wanted to hear more about was annotating. Being able to no just highlight but adding emphasis is a HUGE thing to me. Almost more than the addition of color. So your tips and video was very helpful, and I think I will watch again once I get my Libra Colour! I would be interested in your thoughts of when, 5 years down the road, and I get a new Kobo device, can the annotations be moved to the new device. Or do I treat my old device as a book - the annotations stay with the device. Again, thank you!
I just got my Kobo Library Colour today! I loved this video it was so helpful. I’m new to the Kobo ecosystem as I’m a huge kindle girlie (I own the paperwhite sig, oasis, and Scribe) but this device looked too good to pass up. I figured two ecosystems are better than one. I got so much understanding from your video of not only annotations (new to that as well! I used my Scribe mainly for journaling and word searches) but how to work this device in general! Thank you for your tips! Can’t wait to put them to use
Oh amazing! I’m so glad I could help get you up and running with your Kobo (and annotating, too!) ❤️
I have a Kobo Clara but I have been obsessing over the Kobo Libra Colour. Soon, I will get my hand on it.
I have a Kindle Paperwhite. I go through and highlight during the first read, like you do. Paperwhite is black and white, so no color options. There are note options though when you highlight something. However, once I've read what I need to read, I can pull up the Kindle desktop app or the Kindle mobile app on my phone to change colors and add more/better notes. Also, from these apps, I can copy and past information over to my Notion database. I may use all or some of these options, depending on what I'm reading and why. Thanks again for a useful video, Elizabeth. Now I'm itching for an upgrade with a stylus and colors.
And yet another excellent bookish video from Elizabeth!❤❤❤ I have just received for my birthday from my husband my second kindle (the first one is almost 15 years old and it is still working but it it loosing the battery very quickly now, poor thing). So I am not looking for a new e-reader but it is still interesting to know about Kobo. By the way, do you know the book The ship of Theseus by J.J. Abrams? In it, literally annotations are part of the story. 😅 Take care🙏🏻☺️ oh! Waiting patiently for the Notion video, because my Notion book pages need help!😅
In your exemple I would be in the background, listening to the lively discussions, being fascinated by them but not participating and being extremely happy to just witness it.😊 I do not annotate, tried and failed miserably, but I have to say that at the end of the video when you explained how you simply highlight a chapter or couple of paragraph and then come back to adjust to the right key or write more sound logical and doable in my brain. I will have to try again.
And that’s ok, too! I’m an introvert so I’ve done that a million times and been very happy to just listen and absorb haha but I’m glad my process seemed logical and made you feel the urge to try it again! ❤️
I just bought a new kindle last year!!! Oh why didn't I wait 😭I hate annotating on the kindle, especially for non-kindle store books. I kinda switched to using the ipad and apple pencil, but it's certainly not as easy on the eyes, and you need a pdf to directly write on the document.
Amazon recently came out with a Kindle Scribe. It does a lot of the same things as the Kobo you mentioned. Not having either one, I can't say for sure what differences there are. But it does seem like the Scribe is without color. I'm not sure it has the eraser either, which I have to admit is pretty darn cool.
I want to add that the Scribe is like $100 more. Whether or not that's justified with more things, or just a name brand mark up, I can not say.
I have a Kindle paperwhite. I finally upgraded to it, I believe, two years ago after having a Kindle from like 2008 or something. Lol
Anywho, this is great info! Also, I went back and watched your first video on physical books. Very helpful!
Exactly the kindle scribe is black and white, and - most importantly - you can't write in the text. Kobo is the first to allow this.
@st8dtamazone Yeah, it looks like you have to make a box to write in. Seems kind of annoying. I love my Kindle paperwhite, but I would 100% get this kobo if I could.
It's crazy how Amazon tried to come out with something to equal the kobo but fell flat, really. But then it's so much more expensive. 🤨😒
ahhhh nooo, don't convince me to cave & buy the colour! 😭 I'm trying to wait for the release of a 8" colour one 🤞🏼I have a Kobo Sage & been using it more & more recently. I started to annotate again thanks to your first video, both physically & digitally. What I do to annotate digitally on a non-colour e-reader is (don't have the stylus):
- tab/bookmark where I stop/start, maps, glossary & favorite pgs so its easer to navigate. Also Kobo allows you to filter what kind of annotations (bookmark, highlight, notes, etc.) you did, making it easier to find what you're looking for.
- highlight & use the (I call them) pop-up sticky notes; when you highlight, you'll have the option "add note" then you'll be able to type something even tho it takes forever. Once you save it, it'll look like a little sticky note on the side. To differentiate my notes, I label them at the start like "character" or "story" & add my thoughts after. Again, I use the filter tool to only look at highlights or notes & it's easier to pick out things I need with the label right at the start.
- I also keep a separate physical journal to summarize what I read each day so I can pinpoint what events happened when.
These are simple things I do & have been effective & fun for me. I am a visual person too so I probably will get the colour eventually. 🥺 Really great video showing off the kobo colour & it actually being used to it's fullest potential! It gives me more reasons to buy it!!
That's a nice device. Looks like it integrates with Readwise too. That's my method for notes and highlights. Readwise puts them right into my Notion database from Kindle or I can take a photo of physical text and it OCRs it and puts it in my Notion. I DO NOT like highlighting on Kindle with my finger though. It's an awful experience. And I would also like to be able to write on the screen. That stylus idea looks great!
The stylus feels much more natural, I find! I’ve heard of Readwise but never tried it. It sounds awesome!
@@PlantBasedBride Readwise and its companion Reader are 😘. Sooooo sooooo good. Definitely check it out.
Ive been wanting to do this with my physical books cause ill do it on my phone with the kindle app.
@4:30 what app is that please?
"I would probably lose all my limbs if they weren't attached to my body" - same girl, same 😂
I found using GoodNotes on my iPad with my non-Apple pen and uploading books in pdf that aren't DRM-protected, like eARCs I wouldn't ever show anyone else, I can use it like you're using the new Kobo. However, that Kobo looks fantastic and like so many here, I keep having to remind myself, 'I don't need it! I don't need it!'😆🤣
Update: well, I just found out I can write in my books using the Kobo app in my ipad😂
Hi Elizabeth, When do you read e-books versus physical books?
Boy, I just bought a Kindle Scribe a few months ago (which I love), but the Kobo looks wonderful! While I am not interested in going down a rabbit hole chasing E readers for the perfect one…I do have to ask…would I be able to add my Kindle library to the Kobo, or do would I need to start fresh? Very curious how you fill the library on the Kobo. Thanks for another great video Elizabeth!!!📚🤎🌟
You could add you kindle library to your kobo but it takes a bit of effort.
You'd have to use a software like calibre to remove the protection on the kindle books and then convert them to kepub or epub to then transfer to the kobo.
Once you've got the hang of it, it's not actually too bad and doesn't take too long.
It won't work on KU books though
Thanks for the answer, I think I’ll stick to my kindle for now 😅
I wiish you posted this a couple months ago lol. I had a classmate who is taking the book test option for her master (about 60 books total with 10 being critical theory) and I told her to start annotating and making flashcards. Your system would of been great lol
How would you approach annotating audiobooks? Lately, I've been doing most of my reading through audio, as I'm having a really hard time focusing on text. I'd like to have some sort of notes or annotation of the non-fiction books specially, but I can't think of a way that would work 🤔
I’m planning on making a part three for audiobook annotation! I love audiobooks and listen to them often, so I’m very motivated to find a good process ☺️
Thank you! I'll be waiting for it 😊
Hi, Elizabeth! Thank you so much for this video! I've been waiting so long to see it on your channel! It was very useful! However, the only problem that I found when I annotate my Kindle Paperwhite is that is in black & white, so I cannot be creative as I would like and do with the physical book, or like with Kobo Libra Colour (because I don't have it haha).
How you did it before you have this product? Have you got any advices for Kindle readers? Thank you so much again! I love your content! 🧡
I’ve never read an ebook on a black and white device, but essentially it just removes the colour coding/key aspect since you don’t have colour options. You can still highlight, bookmark, and take notes - it will just take a little longer to find a specific annotation later ❤️
@@PlantBasedBride Thank you so much for the advices! I will do it soon! 🧡 Have a nice day! ^^
Maybe you could try adding a letter or word at the beginning of each note to differentiate between different categories you annotate? It wouldn't completely solve the problem, but at least you'd be looking for a specific keyword or letter at the beginning of each note rather than having to read the whole thing.
@@purplestarkatz that’s such a great idea- I love it! Numbers could work, too 🤔
I’m so sad because I got my Libra 2 as a birthday present to myself in January! To be able to have a notebook on my device to jot down plot points would be perfect for me, especially since I often go days without reading and have to go back a bit to remember what happened. If only this had come out six months ago 😢
thank you so much for this video!! i want to buy an ereader soon and originally wanted the kindle paperwhite, but it always annoyed me that i can't annotate like in a real book (even i can mark thinks and can write notes, it's just different from actually writing alongside the text) 😤 so i guess i will buy the kobo ereader! 💗
I’m so happy to help! I’m really happy this is my first ereader ❤️ it’s truly so awesome to use!
@@PlantBasedBride aaahh i'm so exited!
Is it possible to export the book highlights?
I was so Flabbergasted knowing I cannot move my ibooks notes to Kindle :( literally so devastating damn u amazon 😫😫 (also ur kobo is to die for, the colored kobo came a week after i splurged on a kindle like why these companies hate me)
Hi! Can you read Libby borrowed books on the Kobo Libra Color?
Yes! They automatically sync to your device when you’re connected to wifi ❤️
How easy is it to make notes? Is the size of the Kobo libra colour not to small?
Keleido Pocketbook era colour ebook could scribble on the ebook but could not use a stylus.
Thanks for this video. My question is there is no way to export those annotations on the kobo right?
I believe you can with Readwise! I haven’t tried it yet, though, so I can’t speak to the process. I need to try it out soon ❤️
Yes, Readwise offers this. It works fine. I'm pretty sure with time Kobo will make this easier.
The apps I use usually have notes you can attach to bookmarks so you can add additional text. There should be something like this in the kobo app so you'll shouldn't have to use the notebook app.
P.s. I'm waiting for an e ink tablet so I can have all the reading apps
🌟 🌟🌟🌟🌟
💖💖💖🍀🍀👏👏👏
I think Google already answered my question but I have to ask you - can we get Kindle ebooks on the Kobo ?? I really want an e-reader but so far none reply to my 2 criteria: having colors AND access to a huge catalogue of books (traditionally published or self-published.)….
Also, this is probably a question for annotating on physical books but… do you ever regret writing on the books themselves ? This is really the big thing that makes me not annotate : I cannot write on my books, especially as I tend to do some shelves cleaning once a year and donate books to the local library …
You can read kindle books on a kobo but you'd have to use calibre as they're protected and in the wrong format
I'm a little bit confused about your saying that, before getting the Kobo Libra Colour, you couldn't take your notes in your e-reading app but had to save them in a separate app, therefore requiring that you had to also include a page number, etc. I have been using a variety of e--reading apps for years (Kindle, Nook, ReadEra, Libby), and all of them allow you not only to highlight a passage but to attach a note to that passage directly in the e-reading app. No switching between apps, no remembering to note page numbers.
Sorry, I wasn’t super clear on that! I personally don’t like using those “hidden” notes in ebooks because I find them harder to access/easy to forget about. I personally preferred to have all my notes in one place or clearly visible on the pages of the book! But I know that note functionality works for some people, and I’m glad ❤️
What if I annotated on the side on a page but later on I change the font size and margin, where would my annotations go?
It will show the markup symbol (a scribble in a square) and you can tap it to see your annotations on the original format! It also allows you to revert to those settings if you’d like.
I want a Kobo like yours do you have information on where to get it
It’s the first link in the description box! ❤️
@@PlantBasedBride thank you
We would love to hear how you like your new Kobo Colour when you get it!!!
Does it feel awkward writing but not being able to lean on the screen as you write?
You can have your hand on the screen while writing with the stylus! I do it all the time haha
@@PlantBasedBride oh thats great!
4:42 Which app is this?
It’s the Apple Books app ☺️
@@PlantBasedBride Oh, dang, I haven’t even looked at the app in ages. Time for a revisit! Thanks!
The fact that you can't sort bookmarks by color is absolutely a deal breaker. I think I'd rather wait until someone incorporates this fully with no workarounds. Great tips - this is something I've been wanting to improve, as most of my reading is done on my Kindle nowadays.
I know Libby lets you colour tab audiobooks if you long press, it might also work in ebooks
Jajaja....
I bookmark them and and then i turn them in to a pdf so i can have it by hand 😅...
Not willing to drop nearly AU$500 on an e-reader and stylus. In Australia, for some, that's a whole week's rent (or a big chunk of it).
Nice looking e-reader though.
This video was like a 10/10 UA-cam content video, but everything you said like actual usable content wise could've been 3 mins or less, please don't waste my time for view minutes
Maybe I just talk a lot but I truly struggled to cut this down any shorter without feeling like I was eliminating potentially helpful information 🤷♀️ I'd rather share more ideas, tips, and advice than make a video that barely scratched the surface.
Rude. Maybe just don't waste your time watching it. Nobody forced it on you. I found it very informative and interesting.
