Riddle of earth is kinda weird but it's basically "greater defense for the next 3 weaponskills" is all it really does. That does give you a little variability with how long the defense lasts, because if you can't attack then you keep the buff for the full duration, and if you can attack then it will only last for a short while because you'll probably burn through those stacks quickly, so if you can attack it's more like third eye and needs to be timed well vs damage you get when you can't attack like during a big raid wide you can put up riddle of earth a lot sooner.

Even on single targets Celestial Revolution has lower potency than both Elixer Field and Flint Strike/Rising Phoenix. When endwalker was announced I wanted to play monk again after seeing the job revel, got monk to 90 and didn't understand the beast charkas and the fact there's a lunar and sol charka , but thanks to this guide for an idiot like me I love this job even more just wanted to say thank you so much.

Dont forget that the 2 beast chakra attack is way less potent than the one or the three! You only use that one when you realize you messed up on your way to a three or one, and ended up going towards the Nadi you already have
i was so happy with monk in Shadowbringer ( always thought its to hard to play so i ditched it), than Endwalker came and i thought "and againe i cant play it, cause its to complikated" but now after ur video i got that feeling againe of " hey its the simplest melee class for me i can take !" thank u for that ^^

personally, i would be fine them getting rid of Anatman and replacing it with a trait that gives a 3rd charge to perfect balance so you can do a full beast chakra combo instantly. but ah well.
I feel that buddy 😭 definitely took some getting used to after the changes but it grew on me and I'm having a lot of fun with it like it's the first time I picked up this job all over again 👌

Quick correction, kinda, but your AoEs *also* grant beast chakra when under Perfect Balance, which is good considering the Blitz attacks are AoE with the exception of Celestial Revolution which is just weaker and shouldn't be used anyway if you can help it. It's more of a "well you fucked up but we wont ruin your dps entirely for it" thing.
Worth noting, if it's a concern to anyone: even though a monk's GCDs are very quick, their overall average APM is on the low side for a melee DPS due to the lack of OGCDs.
I enjoyed monk up too lvl 60. The beast chakras made things super confusing for me! I mean, I understand that you do the “same” ongoing combo, and then weave in the new tornado kick, BUT…. When i enter perfect balance, and all abilities light up, I lose track of my combo, my char just flailing their arms in equal confusion. 😂 I can probably get used to it, but man… for me it’s really tricky. Maybe I’m just dumb Edit: I also got tired of having to do meditation and then free form into dragon kick before EVERY FIGHT. 🤣
Still relatively new.... Looked at monk and understood the basic combos but my brain just leaks out of my ears because I don't want to clip demolish so brain goes "just press snap punch" but also goes "wait, isn't that the bootshine combo?" and then I lag like a 2005 dell laptop having a mild aneurysm staring at my hotbars, knowing what I need to do but having an internal reactor meltdown. God I'm too used to dragoon which is just HEEHOO COMBO FLOW GO BRR LMAO. This helped a lot ;-;
To summarize what you are trying to do as monk as it stands now- it is a class that has a combo system that makes a nice, near perfect little circle. You spend most of your time trying to figure out how to skip all that and use your two big hits once you get your buff and DoT out of the way. All this stuff about "perfect balance", "form shift", and "elixir field"? They are just way to free yourself from your combo but still get your combo bonus effect. You are trying to go from a 6 hit combo to a 2 hit combo. And you only want one of those hits because it makes your level 1 attack into a super attack that also builds up a meter for a free attack.

I am curious as to why the majority of the abilities that require all 5 chakra and end up closing all 5 chakra have shit for potency (i.e. Steal Peak potency 180, Howling Fist potency 100, Enlightenment potency 170). Forbidden Chakra is 340, but you have to wait till level 54 (from level 15) to unlock it. To me, building up chakra should unleash a powerful attack not a dead battery, which is why I am curious as to what the point is of the chakra system in the first place.
It's an ogcd and procs like crazy at higher levels and with crit materia. It hits often, rather than slow and heavy hitting. This plays extremely well into monk's fast pace fighting style.
Monks are calling for an increase to 10 Chakra max because of how easy it is to over cap it since you gain so much so quickly. It they increase it to 10 then might as well make 10 hit Hella hard like you say.
it's not an important thing, but to me I also use six sided star during my opener to pot and weave party buffs since it doesn't break your form nor consume perfect balance stacks nor consume masterful blitz if you had it ready like your other hits

It might've helped if the game told me how to activate beast chakra when I unlocked them! I genuinely got from 60 to 66 with an extra part of my interface and like 5 abilities I couldn't activate thinking "hrmm, I know I'm missing something."

I recently switched my main from being Monk to Reaper. The changes to monk just ruined it for me personally.... But changing to reaper has also been a new lesson as well. Lol After spending so long of my main being Monk....I keep trying to do moves faster than the reaper can do. I am not yet used to having to slow down lol. Old habits die hard.

I'll lvl to 30 for crystal but otherwise this classes visual design and fantasy does nothing for me. I know monk can do nutty damage but it's just sort of meh looking with its animations.
Wish monk pve was like monk pvp. Looks cleaner, cooler and makes the job funner. To me at least. Only reason I don’t play monk is because I wouldn’t use twin snakes, true strike or snap punch . Dragon kick also looks a little funny. Basically only like bootshine and demolish. It’s just not as stylish as Jin or hwoarang from tekken lol.

Also Celestial Revolution, doesnt only give Lunar. It can give you both. So if you allready have a Lunar charge it will give Solar

Riddle of Wind can be paired up with Six-Sided Star for more uptime. The faster auto attacks can make up for lost DPS during that 4-second cooldown.

Those specific ones are the Bismuth Tonfa :D
There are other tonfa with the same model, the scavean ones for example. There are also actual tonfa with the samsara

I can't ever activate riddle of wind, riddle of fire etc during dungeons it seems. Can anyone tell me why?
5:15 you forgot to mention that you get three stacks of 10% def buff that you lose one of after every weapon skill (excluding meditate and anatman)
Yep I sure did. I originally had that in the script but I cut it out mid-way through editing because I also mentioned that it negates positionals. I forgot to rerecord the line. Thanks for pointing it out!
@@MegastarXIV it's just a static 20% damage reduction now and doesn't negate positionals
Yea unfortunately they removed the free positionals on riddle of earth so its kinda just ehh now

Thanks you the game explains this class (particularly the chakra gauge) poorly. This vid makes it a little more understandable and when to use it.
I boosted monk and tbh I found it hard work just to do basics. Went reaper and forgot about monk in seconds of trying it
So... Six sided star is useless?
I'll lvl to 30 for crystal but otherwise this classes visual design and fantasy does nothing for me. I know monk can do nutty damage but it's just sort of meh looking with its animations.
I think I'm going to stick to Dragoon. JFC.

Wish monk pve was like monk pvp. Looks cleaner, cooler and makes the job funner. To me at least. Only reason I don’t play monk is because I wouldn’t use twin snakes, true strike or snap punch . Dragon kick also looks a little funny. Basically only like bootshine and demolish. It’s just not as stylish as Jin or hwoarang from tekken lol.
