After having done breakdowns for Rise of the Planet of the Apes and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, y’all KNOW we had to do it to em and hit y’all with a War For The Planet of the Apes breakdown so I’m just gonna shut the hell up and talk about that one time Woody Harrelson fought Furious George. Let’s go!
Matt Reeves’ second Planet of the Apes film War For the Planet of the Apes released on July 14th 2017 and raked in a crazy $490.7 million on a budget of around $152 million dollars. Returning from Dawn of the Planet of the Apes along with Matt Reeves are Andy Serkis as Caesar, Terry Notary as Caesar’s best friend Rocket, Judy Greer as Caesar’s wife Cornelia, Karin Konoval as the Bornean Organgutan Maurice, Caesar’s wise and kind advisor and Toby Kebell as the Ghost of Koba’s Past.
But anyways, the movie opens with a recap of the world events from this Planet of the Apes trilogy by highlighting the words Rise, Dawn and War...to, of course, point to the past rise of the Planet of the Apes and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes movies and this current War for the Planet of the Apes film.

I honestly didn’t think I’d like them, I liked the originals and liked Rise, but thought that the other two would be Hollywood cash grabs…. Boy was I wrong 😅
Bad Ape is one of the greatest supporting characters in cinema history
The fact that after everything they did to him, Cesar still showed the soldiers in the snow compassion it really shows the depth of his character.

This third planet of the apes movie has one of saddest endings in movie history it still hits hard to this day.
Agreed. We all knew the eventual ending, in the form of the original 60s film. But up until that moment in the third movie, there was still hope that things could somehow turn out differently. That Caesar would win and help the apes not repeat the mistakes of the humans. It's just that final nail in the coffin of "Yeah... it is now firmly the planet of the apes. No going back."

I’d say Caesar was 100% going to kill the Colonel. But he came in to see that the Colonel became what he feared the most and Caesar wasn’t going to give him the satisfaction. Caesar would be doing exactly what the Colonel wanted.

@@kitten-whisperer there is imagery of revelations all throughout the movie. The symbol of Alpha and Omega, Ceasar on a cross... How do you think the filmmakers didn't intend it? It wasn't just apes on courses, it's four apes on horses, one of which is white (who died first) "behold, a pale horse, and he that sat upon it; was death".

Can't lie, Woody was bad ass in this film. Also, that Koba scene was great. Cesar top leader & Maurice was a real one. That lil girl took her father being gunned down by the apes pretty well.

At runtime 1hr 46mins when rockets asked Cesear how are they going to get the kids out, the camera gets closer to cesear face and eyes like the same way during the rise when Will’s dad was feeding cesear and he said “ He’s a smart one” idk I felt like that was dope shot for Matt to remember from the first movie 🔥🔥🔥

I think McCullough was also named after a civil war general who won the battle of Wilson's Creek but never capitalized on the victory.
I really have a soft spot for the original 1968 movie. If was released a couple of years before I was born, but it would show up, along with the sequels and the TV series on Channel 43 out of Cleveland on Saturdays when I was a kid.
That said, I am with you and think Dawn is probably the best of them all. War is less hopeful, I think.
I remember rewatching Rise and Dawn to get prepared to see this in theaters. For some reason I liked it, but not so much couple weeks ago I rewatched it and Dawn ( still consider it my favorite ). But War was definitely amazing perfect way to end a trilogy. Can’t wait Kingdom.
