I have been wanting to get a Bear for some time now. Have a couple of Stags that I use for rollers/utility, tho' they have mostly been replaced by Underworlds. I have several Explorers that I use quite often. I want the Bear even more now, for sure ! Those upside down side by sides are an excellent addition ! They would be awesome when comparing different runs of the same mold.
@@BeaverBranch Somehow I seem to have missed all the hype. Including this video I have only seen perhaps 6 others. I just like bears and this looked like a descent choice for the slot. LOL. On another note, man those Stags fly SO much better than mine. Only have 3 that I throw, forget plastic type but they are opaque white like Gold feels. I have 1 wall hanger that is same type plastic but black with gold print. I think I will try a couple more in different plastic...
I lost my stag replaced with a river im trying to decide between the explorer or bear to compliment the river and my xxx. I have an evader but its just not been my fav
The Explorer is a very dependable compliment to the River. The Bear is really nice as well. It’s more like a Convict/Getaway IMO. I’m still getting used to it in my Explorer spot. But, it’s been dependable as well.
I have a Hybrid Stag that's way flatter than your VIP one, and it flies very similarly to this for me. [Though that might just be my noodle arm talking.] I need a brisk headwind for it flip past flat, but it's perfect for those shots where you need a long push before it fades around the corner. It looks like the Bear is a great option for that shot as well. Great review as always!
Thank you Kevin! The VIP Stags I’m throwing are actually glimmer, and have been some of the more stable Stags I’ve thrown (even close to the VIP X). They are all awesome discs always use what works best for you!
@@BeaverBranch I got the Hybrid one to compete with my Saint originally, because I throw a lot of the Discmania Evolution stuff and their Neo is just Hybrid. I was shocked by the stability, but it has a great flight for the next more OS slot in my bag. Looks like i can pick up a Bear to replace it when i need to, and I'll definitely take a look a Trilogy Talk when i need one!
@Beaver Branch Disc Golf Adventures Super late follow-up to this: I picked up one of the regular VIP Bears, and the wing is only barely higher than my Hybrid Stag, so I think my Stag is just a weird example of the mold, which confirms why it hasn't done many Stag things for me. 😅
Have you thrown one of the EK Opto-X Explorers? I think most runs are pretty flat like and are super beefy. I bag a Hybrid and one of the EK signatures both have been in my bag a long time and they still have great stability. The EK is Felon like stability still. Also bag a milky clear Stag and it goes so far but is also really controllable and really comfortable. I usually reach for it before the Escapes. Your forehand form: I'm not an expert but I really think it would help to have your forehand reach back a little sooner in your swing. It's all happening too quick at the very end. Love your reviews!!
I’ve thrown the Moonshine Opto X EK Zombie Explorers. Yes, dependable, but Felon-like for my arm! I bag a couple 2X Opto Explorers extremely reliable stable straight, not over stable. These Bears were pretty close to where those seasoned Explorers are (out of the box). Thanks for the props and suggestions, I’ll think about it next fieldwork. Always working on forehand mainly when needed. I’m backhand all the way!
Nice review again. This time you didn't have the distance line in there though. My concern with Bear being so flat is that it will lose out on the distance compared to your Stags, Saints, Escapes and so forth. How would you describe the distance potential and the glide on the Bear? To me the Bear looks a bit like the Convict, and my issue with that one was that it lost out on the distance so much that I would rather throw a stable speed 7 disc like Explorer or Saint Pro. The Longbowman was another one of those with the same issue.
Thank you! Great question! (I don’t always do the distance throws, and typically it’s on distance drivers). I was surprised with the profile and the glide 6, being that it was not a very domey disc. Wow - didn’t think about the Convict and you’re right. I would have to compare the Bear directly with an Escape/Saint to answer this question! That being said, and don’t know for sure glide 6, the disc did not seem to be trying to get to the ground (like the glide 4 Convict). Although I have to agree now that the trajectory did seem like a Convict, as it straightened and had dependable fade. It felt looser than I expected and more like it would stretch out and potentially fly far (now giving me a reason to test distance on it!). Fieldwork with my current Explorers, Escapes, Rivers, will determine if and where it fits in my bag. The disc sure does have a lot of hype!
I use the Stag. For me, an amateur not very evolved, is beautiful! It goes very straight and then it fades in a good and quite gentle way. I use also the explorer (a light one) for the hyzers throws. The bear seem to me, and for me, too much thick.
as always a well detailed video. I just bought the stag, got the same flight on flat release. looking forward what else I cand do with this disc.
What a great fairway/backdrop/practice area. Absolutely gorgeous.
Video def has me wanting to check out a stag again as well as a bear.

Thanks Backwoods! Bear is a very hyped and much anticipated disc! I think it’s good, seems dependable stable, straight disc.

@@spektr540hemi try the VIP glimmer if you can get them or the VIP X.

What a beautiful flight the Bear has. Definitely a workhorse worthy disc you can cycle.
Time, and fieldwork, will tell how it cycles into the quiver!
my seasoned bear stretches way out and comes back 2.5

Stick with what works. Don’t throw something because everyone else throws it! Stag is an excellent disc!
A comparison between saint pro and the bear 🐻 next? 🙏
100% once I can obtain a Saint Pro. Haven’t come across throwers yet, but want them to appear soon!
Love my Stag and Warship, trying to talk myself into a Bear.
The Bear would be a slightly more stable alternative to the Stag. I think it’s very similar to the old DD Convict.
@@BeaverBranch thanks!
Explorer all the way 🎉
I agree! Explorer is the disc!
