Inspired by the 1988 classic “Red Storm Rising”, command a nuclear submarine in a desperate attempt to prevent “mutually assured destruction” when the Cold War gets hot and WWIII begins.
You will be tasked with intercepting convoys, amphibious landings, insertion missions and battling it out with enemy warships, submarines and aircraft. Thankfully, an arsenal of wire-guided torpedoes, anti-ship and cruise missiles and the occasional SEAL team are on board to keep the Iron Curtain at bay.

I think that I think that it's better USS Seawolf immediately set course for Guam for some urgent repairs... Otherwise I'm not sure it would make to the objective 😂
Please stop cooking the realism of the torpedoes by using the external view. On previous videos you've guided them directly in with the external camera. Please just send the torpedo active and let it do it's own thing, it would be much more realistic 🙏
Agreed. Guiding the torpedoes in visually makes everything all too easy. (Against sub targets, using the depth screen to guide the torpedo to the right depth is OK, but the torpedo should be left to find the target horizontally).
Yeah with surface ships it's entirely unnecessary to use the camera because you can always just guide it to the pink intercept dot. Subs you at least have to guess a little on just how much they're moving up or down based on the depth screen but usually the ADCAP will reacquire pretty quickly if you did it well. Worst case you loop it around on the wire and go again. @@timonsolus

Your chief engineer better get a damn medal for all the work he's putting in trying to stop the sub from completely flooding.
Aside from the fact that subs don't have a CHENG, just an ENG, they wouldn't be 'doing' anything to stop the flooding; he'll be directing things, but along the lines of "hey Mechanics of the nuclear and non--nuclear trained capacity, fix it!" Medals need to go to the LPO's, the two welders, and probably the token NUB (that's New Underway Buddy, for the record) who are swimming in a mix of oil and seawater trying to patch things up. What will ACTUALLY happen though, is junior guy get's a CO's Letter, welder and LPO get NAMs, Chief and Div-O get COMs, ENG and CO get Distinguished Service Medals. 🤣

The flooding issues of two compartments would be extremely sub optimal if attacked by submarine, In reality the Seawolf commander would be ordered proceed best speed nearest port for immediate repair.

The initial hit would've damaged the shaft seals and line shaft bearings, and probably would've been extremely limiting for propulsion.
That last bit of flooding would've been all of the engine room spaces- I can't help but think about how much propulsion equipment would be grounded or completely inoperable because of the massive flooding.

Every time you deploy the towed array it gives me flashbacks to the "toad array" pictures some of us had on our cube walls when I worked on a submarine program a long, long time ago.

13:26 What I've been waiting for. If the submarine is damaged, as soon as you neutralize one or more targets, magically the submarine will start flooding in a part that hasn't even been damaged 😂.
And it's always the "reactor space" too, even though damage was outside the pressure vessel in the aft ballast tanks 🤔

I like that you choose the sea wolf, nice to see some thing other than the extra challenging subs and the use of some effective weapons. I use to play this when it was out in the 80's on the Amiga 500 when it was based on the Tom Clancy novel Red storm Rising ( The game was called that back then too) and it still looks as fun now as then, though better graphics obviously.

Doesn't seem like enough. None of the enemies heard him even the ship that completely stopped to listen. Kinda breaks my immersion

I gotta say, I'm loving your videos. I had no idea this game existed until I found your channel.
I served as an officer aboard a 688i for several years, and deployed both to the Middle-east and Western Pacific. I was the Sonar Officer as a very junior unqualified NUB, but spent most of my qualifying time as the Damage Control Officer. A very brief stint at the end of my first tour gave me some time as the assistant head of the weapons department (AWEPS). In that position I was responsible for Torpedo, Sonar, and Fire Control divisions, as well as acting as the TLAM strike officer, ship's security force supervisor, and weapons handling safety officer (Torps, TLAMs, etc.).
I played a sh*t ton of "688i Hunter Killer" back in the day. I now own a copy of Cold Waters, and am looking forward to trying it out. Hopefully it will scratch the realistic mil-sim itch. I just wish this game had multiplayer as an option. Matching wits with another submarine captain is a thrilling chess match.

The Chinese surface ships generally don’t have rocket assisted torpedoes so these torp drops tend to be helicopters or MPAs in the SCS campaign
Any chance you could make a breakdown video on modern submarine warfare? I've picked up a lot of knowledge just through watching but it'd be interesting to have it all together. Modern submarine warfare theory, all the terms, how the torpedoes work and their limitations, etc. Love your content!

This is just too easy I want to see an Alpha campaign, just a suuuper different submarine to play as, its the most fun IMO.

I've played seawolf 2000 twice, first time I destroyed everything with no damage to me, second time, almost immediately. four air drop torpedo's in close proximity, 2 on the bow and 2 on the stern caused me 2 hours if knuckles and decoys I was able to beat all four only to have another three dropped directly on top of me. gamer over. If the PLA is as good as AI then we are doomed.
I am now @ Ep5 and have been persuaded to buy this game, it looks rad. I like sub sims but the old WWII sub sims are done to death so this should renew my interest. So I also need this DOT mod?

Do NPC ships have different 'skill' level of captains? It seems sometimes they just derp out and don't do anything logical, while other times they're hyper-aggressive and excellent at detecting you while you're evasive.
Depends. The Soviet ships in his other campaigns have been quite aggressive.

China's fault.
No need to waste a MOSS on that one torpedo. It was 8k yards away and circling. When they drop, give it a moment to see if it is circling. If so, ignore it. Also, no need for the torpedo to go active on the Romeo. It would have homed in on passive, and died before it even had a chance to fire a torp in response. I agree, the Seawolf can be OP, particularly if the enemy doesn't have any towed sonars. The only time I've gotten into trouble is when I was closing on a surface group and they had a diesel sub creeping out front that I couldn't hear. I fired on the ships from about 15k yards, and got return fire from the sub that was only 8k yards away. That was an unpleasant surprise, given it was a Kilo, and they have nasty torpedos

Can anyone explain what 'the layer' is Wolfpack often mentiones?
I'm pretty sure he means a thermal layer, where one part of the ocean is significantly warmer than the other. In the mechanics of the game, having a thermal layer in your area of operations can affect sonar readings above and below the layer.
@@StarkRaven59 So, you're absolutely spot on with it being a thermal layer, but it's not just game mechanics, it's an actual thing..I think SubBrief has a few videos on it, and it's why you can sometimes have contacts suddenly get a few KYards closer or further away...basically the soundwaves will bounce and reflect along the layer, skewing signature. They did a really good job in their depiction of it in game.

Can you shoot down helicopters and planes?
Some subs carry SAMs for that purpose. He's done that in several of his vids. The Seawolf does _not_ carry SAMs, AFAIK

3:40 You really shouldn't make a torpedo go active, while the sea is so calm and quiet. The Type 033 is extremely deaf, noisy and slow. If your shot is correct, you may even hit the Type 033 without them even knowing they are being shot.
