    Inspired by the 1988 classic “Red Storm Rising”, command a nuclear submarine in a desperate attempt to prevent “mutually assured destruction” when the Cold War gets hot and WWIII begins.
    You will be tasked with intercepting convoys, amphibious landings, insertion missions and battling it out with enemy warships, submarines and aircraft. Thankfully, an arsenal of wire-guided torpedoes, anti-ship and cruise missiles and the occasional SEAL team are on board to keep the Iron Curtain at bay.

    The Han is China’s first nuclear submarine… and despite all of the tech they’ve stolen over the decades, it is the LOUDEST nuclear submarine on earth. The sound it makes even at low speed is comparable to a commercial jet engine on takeoff roll. It’s just… HOW… how in the heck did the Chinese screw up so badly to make it that LOUD? xD Learned that from the guy on “Sub Brief” who used to track them (as well as Russian subs) when he was a submariner in the USN.

    It is truly stunning the difference in technology from the WWII Uboat campaigns to this modern submarine.

      Its impressive how in WW2 the sub was a boat with the ability to submerge and a few years later it became a vessel that was designed to operate submerged for days if not longer

      @@Big1_ while some had snorkels, it wasnt under the type 21 that the boat was designed to be operated submerged the majority of the time. The snorkel was a temporary solution to that problem once sea search radar was regularly mounted on british aircraft.

      Ships that could submerge themselves as an advantage then vs submarines that are practically crippled when on the surface now.

    • @bigpoppa1234

      Type 9 Submarine could go 18 knot surfaced & 7 underwater, carrying 22 torps and go about 13k nautical miles surfaced with a test depth of about 230m and could crawl underwater for about 1 to 3 days max, torps that could go 7.5km at 30 knots.
      Seawolf has her low noise speed of 20 knots, flank of at least 35 knots, with 50 weapons including torps, land attack & anti-surface missiles and if they'd built the subroc, and those weapons could have nuclear tips if the US felt like it, with torps going as far as 50km at 40knots or quickly as 55knots at 38km. And that are wireguided and can be steered to the target.

    15:47 The Han could pick up the active from the Luda bouncing off your hull if she stays close to her and just listens without going active herself. Probably seems like a pretty cool and smart tactic for a sub in formation!

    Something I've noticed and abuse...errr, utilize extensively, is the range of noise of a torpedo launch is about 8K yards on the 21 (haven't tested LA or VA flights), so if you're able to get your solution quick enough, you can hang outside that range and shoot all torpedoes all day long and they won't know until about 4-6K yards when they pick up the torp screw and then snapshot down that heading (+/- about 10 degrees if they launch in a spread). I also think they'll set their activation distance at 8k, but idk for certain, I'm never near there to check XD.

    • @glenm99
      @glenm99 9 місяців тому

      It's usually copper alloy wire, either uncoated or coated in polyethylene. Some sources say fibre optic has been used, but that seems brittle and unnecessary. The sub carries big spools of wire, or the wire is integrated into the torpedo, or both... there are different technologies.
      All the info you could ever want on the wire (but not the dispensing mechanisms) is online: US naval document called "Copper-Based Torpedo Guidance Wire: Applications and Environmental Considerations." Use your favourite search engine, it's freely available.

    @bigpoppa1234 9 місяців тому

    Harpoons are a waste of time because of their weak payload. Better hitting whatever you're aiming at with a TASM. Also I think you need 8 TLAM's to do a strike mission, so you should either carry 9 (8 plus a spare just to be on the safe side) or 0 (and go back to Guam and reload if you get one).
    Also I think the reason that torp didn't reacquire at 9:25 (and again later) is because you were still steering it, which stops it acquiring on it's own), once it no longer sees the noisemaker you can let go of the torp steering and it'll automatically reacquire. Or you just steer the torp in manually the whole way like with the surface ship.
