65-76 'Kit' Torpedo - Diameter: 25.6" / Length: 33' / Warhead Weight: 1.5 tons / Total Weight: 5.5 tons
*Kit:* Am I a joke to you?
Kwaj lol
ONE helo from two spru cans and a Belknap? Didn’t appear “pretty difficult” to me.....
the name literally is "whale" lol
Kwaj
Kit: I am designed to sink aircraft carriers and ULCCs. I think I can handle a destroyer.
With warships you can never be too careful
You received Medal of Nakhimov, its awarded to soldiers and sailors of the Navy and Border Guards for bravery and courage in naval theatres.
Along with the usual Soviet propaganda in their mention in dispatches. 36:35 Also exalting the successes the Soviet navy's having with sinking supply ships supplying the NATO countries. Who's Admiral Nakhimov? You're not missing anything, Wolfpack.
@@Patchman123 It's not exalting anything, it's got the reporting style rather.
@@Patchman123 its a game wtf-
@@Patchman123 why so serious
But.... the citation is lost in the desk drawer of some unaccountable Nomenklatura in Moscow.
Your children will receive the award 4 years after your death though, so that's nice.
For anyone wondering the medal page says:
The presidium of the supreme soviet of the USSR expresses heartfelt congratulations and with great pleasure rewards
Nakhimov medal
for
Wolfpack
Officer
k-284 "Akula"
Exceptionally worthy service in quality commander of k-284 "Akula". Wolfpack resistant dedication and excellent tactical solutions consistently bringing success to their unit in action. His behaviour testifies to his great merit, this team and corresponds to the highest traditions.
USSR Naval Service.
When you come from SH3 and Uboat Playlists "Torpedo Range is 3 to 5 km"
to this
"Torpedo Range is about 50km"
😱
It's not often modelled but the Japanese WW2 long Lances could travel up to 40 km's. The problem was they weren't homing at all.
Batteries people, batteries
She is beautiful, and K-284 'Akula' was the lead boat too, sadly decommissioned in 2001. The Schuka-Bs tend to have suitably menacing names, the Northern fleet's 24th 'Beast' Division doesn't get its name for nothing with boats like Pantera, Volk, Leopard, Tigr etc... I haven't tried out epic mod yet and boy do I need to
"Schuka" translates to "Pike"
я знаю :)
@@Mr66D Очень хорошо, мой друг :)
Look wolf just remember your crush depth I saw you live , you don't have the best track record with akulas.
I have a sticky note on my monitor!
Just imagine beeing on that oil rig and suddently seeing the american ships passing by burst into fiery explosion and sink rapidly one by one right before your eyes
Love the shape of the Shchuka class (Nato: Akula). I also love the shape of the Akula (Nato: Typhoon). And the confusion the naming causes, lol.
Alfas are also shapely.
@Clockworks Gamer actually, the first were _them_
en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shchuka-class_submarine
@Clockworks Gamer just wait until you find out that Soviet self-propelled artillery pieces were called after flowers like Pyon and Gvozdika.
Okay, I forgot that I've commented about "Pike" here. Sorry 🙏
USSR subs look a lot cooler that NATO ones. Although I love the RN Trafalgar class.
Now this is what we've been waiting for. Comrade Wolfpakski.
Happy to hear it!
I like your videos. There is one tactic I have read about in Tom Clancy-type books: with wire guided torpedos, if the target is bearing 0 degrees, send the torpedo out at 45 degrees. Let it run out 5-10 km, then turn it in towards the target. Then if the target counterfires down the bearing of the incoming torpedo, it is not coming towards your submarine.
I haven't read anything beyond vessel specifications really, so the tactics are a little foreign. But doesn't that require basically 100% surprise? If the enemy has SONAR, I would think they'd hear the launch before they visually acquired it. And on top of that, it seems like a very tech reliant tactic. A torpedo straight into the bow seems like it would be a lot more impactful than a torp coming in at 45 degrees. But I again, I don't know about stuff like fuse sensitivity and that kind of thing. I know torpedoes could run low to possibly break the enemy's back, or they can run on the surface to punch holes
@@giantidiot31 so the idea is you fire away from you at long range then turn it back in and send it in. The main goal is once they do hear it (you fire the torpedo outside of there maxium sonar range) it's no longer a direct shot back to the Submarine. It only works with wire guided torpedos
@@mikefischer8576 I guess I'm too used to reading and hearing about WW1/early WW2 torps. But wires are finnicky even today. We only got multiple simultaneous target acquisition and solutions pretty recently. I would've figured SONAR (set to wide focus) would outrange most torps
@@giantidiot31 not at all remember sonar is limited by weather, ocean conditions,Thermal layers, ect. Also even in the 70s us subs could fire multiple wire guided torpedoes and the Russians could do it in the 80s. Most modern military equipment is hold overs from the cold war
@@giantidiot31 You could also fire on the enemy contact using the tubes on the opposite side of your boat to the enemy. Therefore using the sounded deadening of the submarine to hide the launch transient somewhat.
Well color me impressed. Functional wake homing? accurately modeled towed array including curves from maneuvering? The sheer number of improvements this mod introduces is immense, and some of them used to be considered impossible. I will have to try it out.
Nicely done attack, BTW. I liked how you almost launched on a low-SOL contact, then stopped yourself and got a better solution. Keep it up!
all of these features need to be introduced in the base game
the mod's a major improvement
Very well said. I assumed I’d be the only one that got so very pumped-up to see they added towed array deployment & handling.
2 years late, but it's a shame that people think epic mod's devs introduced all these features when it's all stolen from dotmod (And they brag about stealing, wow)
I love the radio chatter. It makes the game more alive
You actually started this run? I'm shocked surprised and even more ecstatic to see this :D
I sure did! It should be a lot of fun!
I'm not a native Russian speaker, but I took a crack at translating your medal citation and newspaper clipping:
"PRESIDIUM OF THE SUPREME SOVIET (OF THE) USSR
MOSCOW
[The Supreme Soviet is the Soviet Union's bicameral legislature, but the whole body (somewhere around 1500 people around the year 1984) only met briefly twice a year. In the meantime, the day-to-day, year-round legislative needs of the Union would be met by the Presidium (38 of, ideally, the best and brightest members of the Supreme Soviet, elected by their peers), whose decisions would need to be confirmed by the full body at the next joint meeting.]
(THE) PRESIDIUM OF THE SUPREME SOVIET OF THE USSR expresses (its) heartfelt congratulations and with great pleasure awards
(THE) "NAKHIMOV MEDAL"
TO [literally "FOR"]
CMDR. Wolfpack
OFFICER (on the)
K-284 "SHARK"
FOR:
Exceptionally meritorious service as commander (of) K-284 "Shark". Wolfpack('s) steadfast loyalty and excellent tactical decisions consistently bring success to his unit on campaign. His behavior testifies to his great service, (and to that of) this command [or "team", "crew", etc.], and conforms to the highest traditions of the Naval [literally "Military-nautical"] service (of the) USSR."
Admiral Nakhimov was an Imperial admiral who led the Tsar's sea _and_ land forces during the Siege of Sevastopol during the (Victorian Era) Crimean War, which lasted almost a year. He ended up losing, which led to Russia losing the whole war, but he sure as heck didn't make it _easy._ I think he actually ended up with fewer casualties than the enemy (not to say that either side came _out_ anywhere near as pretty as they went _in,_ though). His medal is, of course, for exceptional valor and gallantry at sea.
The newspaper is "(The) Red Star", the official newspaper of the Soviet Military.
"DISRUPTIONS IN OIL SUPPLIES
Decisive actions (have) significantly disrupted the supply of fuel to the enemy.
The extent of losses to the oil and gas sectors due to (this) incident on the (continental) shelf are not specified, but they will affect the course of the hostilities [Last sentence heavily fiddled with for a more natural English sentence structure, but the ideas are all there and fairly literal, I think]."
@@alexeyvlasenko6622 Was the medal citation implied to be public? It looked more like a certificate to me.
Thank you for the translation. well done.
I'm a native speaker and I can say you did very well. The original language is a bit clunky though - most likely, it was translated from English in the first place.
Appreciate the translation. Really adds to the immersive experience.
@@TrueRainsie Totally right, it's a translation made by a non-native speaker. First of all, Russian navy does not have a rank of Commander (CMDR), this should be Captain, 2nd rank (Капитан 2 ранга). Word "служение" can never appear in such context, "service" should be translated as "службу", later on there're more problems. After all, the wording itself is not fit for the paper of such scale, it should be much more official looking and pompous. So the question remains: Internet is full of Russian-speaking people, lots of them are ready, even eager, to help, why do game developers keep using Google Translate?
Oh, and right, Nahimov's medal is a low-rank award, it cannot be issued to the officers.
NICE work on this. Cold Waters has gotten a lot of life breathed back into it with this Epic Mod. I love it, think the mod is amazing, though I’ve been playing the Russian one for like 6 months (can’t speak/read Russian but I can speak/read Cold Waters). Very nice and very professional work on this video. SUB-Scribed!
Thank you for watching. Welcome aboard!
So how does a person get the MOD for playing Cold Waters?
Don't worry about the 65's having small warheads....they're going to one shot anything short of a carrier
These are your workhorses against surface contacts...insane range and pretty much impossible to dodge (at least in game since i've not seen any real exercise regarding this matter)
You know, about a year ago I did the Russian campaign & used a Typhoon class that beat the campaign. Seeing you using the sleek and fast dagger Akula for this is amazing!
Hell yes!! I need to increase my patreon $. This is the best.
Thanks man! :)
It would be interesting to see what would happen with other players running the escorts. And this task force should have had four or five helos embarked, for two in the air at any one time. (depending on perception of enemy threat level.)
I just finished listening to Red Storm Rising and have been scouring yt for videos stimulating element's of the story. Thank you!
Suggestion - as I play CW - when the TDC offers you a mark ("Target will be here") - fire a Km or so further back, it's why your 1st torpedo overshot the 1st tanker.
Just trying to be helpful.
The signal flags on the ship at 24:48 says "fuck yeah". Cool detail.
So we got Magz on the NATO Campaign, and Wolfpack on the Soviet Campaign. I love you guys. Keep up the great work!
This may have already been commented, but you were awarded the Nakhimov medal at the end. :)
Loving this! Can't wait for the next episode!
Hello, I've just recently found your channel,.. and "WOW"!!,, I am totally amazed! Never even heard of all these fantastic games that you play! You have great commentary and your knowledge of not only the games, but of the timeline of the wars , it makes it so immersive to watch you play!! I've subbed and become a huge fan of your channel...!!! Will always be waiting for more!!
man, the torp tech made such a leap in the cold war...the battle of the atlantic would have been a whole different ballgame if there was something remotely similar before 1944
The shark is on the hunt. Good luck as that sub was designed for one purpose, chase down american carriers.
She is loud but fast.
robert goodman you’re thinking of the ALFA. The ALFA was the really fast sub, the AKULA is one of Russia’s more modern (and quieter) subs. The AKULA is designed for the hunter-killer role.
If this was an ALFA campaign you would die of radiation before the NATO ASW forces got you.
And unreliable! Most of all Akula missions had to be abandoned due to technical problems!A shark without guts and heart!
The ALFA was meant to intercept nato submarines that got too close to Murmansk using its extreme speed and agility to just charge head on in and launch before dodging away. The Akula is a more balanced true fleet submarine designed to sneak up on carriers and other hostile surface vessels as well as submarines. it is slower and less agile but much quieter
noise makeres are useless against wake homing torps btw. Those things once dialed in are nigh impossible to shake. The development of KOTS by the Soviet Union is fascinating. They could track you based on the difference in density, water turbulence, levels of radiation in the water (nuclear subs), temperature, etc. Fascinating.
Excellent work, especially whenever you show the ships sinking! Keep it up!
Thank you!
Absolutely love your content man. This stuff is so entertaining and fun to watch. Keep it up and stay safe man.
Thanks man! I appreciate it!
Loved this, great first mission, think this is gonna be great, great choice of sub sir.
Glad you chose a Soviet sub. This ought to be an interesting series. I'm playing the same campaign on epic mod but chose the Sierra class. Luv those teeth on the hull.
Would you look at that! I love Cold Waters but never did look for other mods than that which adds subs. I'm impressed the community once more strikes deeply and precisely, rekindling my interest in it. Haven't heard about any news for a "full release", game still has that "beta" tag. Thanks for popping up, i really needed it!
@Clockworks Gamer indeed, after that chinese campaign they pretty much left it for dead, although it has much potential yet.
Hell yeah! I find that the Soviet submarine service is woefully under-appreciated in the West. That's especially tragic because strategically speaking (not talking about single boats) the Soviet submarine forces were the most potent threat of any in the world! (remember that NATO stood to lose far more to widespread submarine shipping lane denial than the USSR ever could)
Cold Waters is my favoraite game im so glad to see it back on the channel
Amazing as always
Fantastic, quality- and I am *so* excited to have just subbed to you, fuck yea!
Welcome aboard!
Been a long time since I played a sub-sim. I may have to get COLD WATERS. Great vid, thanks.
Such a great game! Would love to see you take a diesel boat next!
oh dank, and the wake guided torpedoes seem sick!
This is such a nice mod. I modified mine further for a proper Kilo campaign where you cpnlçy get coastal sweep missions basically. Prepping the way for bigger ships. Rarely you can get a surface vessel takedown mission.
Can't wait for some sub on sub fights. Good luck Wolfpack.
Thanks!
It says "Nachimov's Medal", it's all I can decipher on short notice
Thanks!
Wish they added the torpedo launch sounds to the english sound pack, really love the launch sound and the fish swimming away from the vessel
Glad to see this series! Maybe throw in a few episodes as a surface ship and other subs to breakup the series? Would be nice to watch
AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME!! Keep these coming!
I am happy to have it back! This should be an interesting series.
i love cold waters! keep up the good work!
Will do! Thanks for watching!
This is going to be a great series!
I think so too!
I wonder where the SH-60's were? I know Spruance class destroyers carried 2 each, one usually always in the air for ASW, and they carried torpedoes.
Wow! What a fun video. I am going to have to learn all of those torpedos. Seems I need to learn Russian too.
This mod is a funny one, on single mission rus-1984, in the Gibraltar, you faced 3 subs along with about 3 surface contacts.. More than one occasion im somehow tricked the skimmers to dropped asroc right ontop or within sonar range of the said asroc to their own side subs..
Very pleasing witnessing los Angeles class, executing a pretty, beautiful underwater ballet evading her side own torps..
Great video! Subed!
red storm rising is a incredible book, I highly recommend it
Also note: Soviet/Russian are NOT using NATO phonetic Alphabet, (game does) obviously.
He'll yeah I have waiting for this
Me too! I was excited to start this series.
The original game always seemed a bit unrealistically biased towards US technology, with the American torpedoes being near perfect fire and forget weapons, while the Russian ones just harmlessly fly by their targets, but this makes me worried that this Russian mod might be just the other way around and make Russian weapons perfect while American ones seem inadequate.
Looks like those 46's were deployed by ASROC in order to get behind you during your first attack run. Seems like a pretty good game!
It indeed is a good game!
Man that first hit you landed would absolutely knock a ship out of the fight. Putting a hole in the bow forces them to reduce speed drastically in order to slow flooding. It would be forced to slow down to probably about 5 knots and begin damage control ASAP to save it.
YAY ANOTHER COLD WATERS PLAYLIST I’m just mad cause I was editing a video for a friend and dident see this
I would love to see a Typhoon campaign!!
u made this stuff look easy when i tryed anything they would launch 6 air drop torps on top of me everytime no matter how deep i was
Oh i was waiting for someone to play the mod, not really with this sub but close enough
Hell yes. Ready for this new series
There is another new series coming this week too!
Great video and hopefully the start of another long series to rival the SH3 one.
It’s ASROC by the way (pronounced ‘Azz-rock) for Anti Submarine Rocket.
Yeah that is my bad on the pronunciation. I pre recoded the next few episodes but after that it should be fixed.
There we go! Fantastic
I love the akula. I hope Russia preserves one as a museum ship
Nice use of Sub Command/Dangerous Waters music in the intro there.
Classic
Good luck and good Hunting Wolfpack345! I am hyped for this series! For the Motherland!!!
The TEST 71 has very poor sensors on board
still useful, but not that advanced in terms of electronics
this mod looks awesome
Wooo, the seawolf hunts again.
Yes! Another Cold Waters video!
Thanks for watching!
i was waiting for you to drive an Akula Class
Love the Akula, just zip everywhere at Full and Flank at 600m, pop up to 400m to fire your shots then back down to 600m. None of their 80's era warship weapons can go that deep and will just explode trying to get down that deep if they even pick you up in the first place.
I was wondering what you'll do next since you've defeated the Soviets in both 1984 AND 1968, Wolfpack345.
I figured this would be a nice change of pace.
I have U-Boat to thank for stumbling across this fantastic channel.
Welcome aboard!
Beautiful
cool mission and mod, bro!
You really need to post a video playing SUB COMMAND in the AKULA, because that old game has the most amazing interface that looks like you're in a real russian submarine. it is quite the experience I promise you. Maybe the game itself is dated, but please post video playing it a bit with the cool interface. if you dont have the game, i can gib it to you. Also - you need talk with Ruski accent if you play Akula! more fun!
I always thought a control room would've been cool in Cold Waters, it would have added to the atmosphere.
Very cool! Молодец, товарищ!
Thanks man :)
In 1984...the thing we really feared was the Akula class....
It is certainly the most advanced boat in the soviet lineup.
the signalflags on the belknap are displaying "F*** YEAH" :D
Looks like I have a new favorite series
:D
It's... weird (though I'm not sure that's the right word) to see a Belknap in this video. My dad was a lieutenant serving on the USS Bordelon when Belknap got crunched by Kennedy. He said that was a long night with Ricketts and Bordelon trying to put out the fire. Hell of a sea story though.
The book red storm rising is amazing btw
Man this is like a Movie :_:
If I would witness a massive warship being sunken like 21:38 out of the middle of nowhere then I would probably just give up with my life.
very nice
Like you said, the AI is more trigger happy with Epic Mod but doesn’t have the enemy surface vessel behavior done quite right. I managed to get an enemy trawler beached on an island recently and it got 100% plum stuck. It was stuck in a cove and wouldn’t sink or turn or anything. It actually prevented me from completing the mission. Before giving up I went way way WAY out of my target location, backtracked & tried to shoot a few torpedos at it. It was too shallow so the torpedos kept hitting the side of the island and I eventually ragequit. It was pretty fascinating. 700hrs in this game and I have never seen that happen!
very good
I LOVE THIS CHANNEL !!!!🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
my favorite submarine after the XXI type
If I could add one reality mod, it would be to create a more realistic "kill" behavior: for example, surface ships which may remain afloat for some time, not breaking up, but steadily lose combat reaction time and capability as the crew applies damage control efforts and eventually begin abandoning ship. So one or two torpedos may be enough to eventually sink a ship, but you never know for sure and have to decide if you want to expend more to stop return fire immediately, or save the munitions and wait and see.
It would have been kind of neat to see you an an old diesel-electric boat. Out of curiosity, what other subs does the mod offer?
So no one is gonna wonder why that Spruance looks exactly the same as a Type 052 destroyer? 🤔
They can only use ingame textures, so there is a lot of cut and paste to make different superstructures.
Strange how your always the ENEMY
It would be nice if the mod bumped the start date up a bit since the first Akula wasn't commissioned until December 30th, 1984.
Rise of the Red Army!
Good video, but I have a question, how can I deploy and pick up towed array? Thanks
The Akula is a fucking beast. Love it.
Russian sonar display is more of a circular osciloscope style display rather than the linear waterfall display.
