    Thanks this was very helpful. I was going to buy the special ridge cap shingles, but this video made me realize that using the 3-tabs would be easier and better match the existing caps.

    • @amifeller
      @amifeller 3 роки тому +1

      Thanks for watching! Yes, most roofs have a 3 tab shingle for the ridge shingle. It's unfortunate, because the life of the shingle is usually 5-10 years less than the field shingle. When it's time for a new roof, I recommend getting better ridge cap shingles.

    Thanks for the video! I am not a roofer, just a broke homeowner....lol. So, I have learn, thanks a lot to UA-cam, how to fix everything from plumbing issues to replacing a furnace motor myself. Of course, it has come down to now fixing leaks in my roof (which is over 20 yrs. old). I cannot afford to fix it all at once (for now). I was OK with flat runs of the roof, but I was intimidated by doing the ridge. As old as my roof is the ridge looked in good shape. But, wanting to put permanent D-anchors on the ridge for safety harness (permanent because I am eventually replacing the whole roof), I realized I will need to tackle the ridge. As I said, not being an experienced roofer I am making sure I don't get up there without a safety harness.Thanks again.

      How do you keep from tearing the shingles when you put the ladder against them
      And obviously you can sit on the ridge shingles as you go

    • @rooferchicks
      @rooferchicks  26 днів тому

      @@johncory3774 If the shingles are still pliable, they will bounce back after you remove the ladder. If they are brittle, they may tear, you are right. If you are concerned about it, you can stick something between your ladder and the shingles (my guys use foam cushions) or use a stabilizer bar on the ladder. How do you nail ridge shingles to a ridge with the ridge vents? Is there anything you need to do to get it right?

    • @rooferchicks
      @rooferchicks  29 днів тому +1

      The ridge cap usually comes with nails that are for it that are longer than roofing nails (like a 8 penny). We use 1.75" ring shank roofing nails on high profile ridge caps and especially when going over the ridge vent to attach the ridge cap. On the rest of the roof we use 1.25". Hope that helps!

    You over cut your "V" way way to far now the nails on the next pc of cap won't go threw the top of the shingle before it instead of 4 nails it now has 2. Only takes a small "V" cut to not have over exposure

    That ladder set up breaks multiple safety guidelines.

    • @amifeller
      @amifeller 3 роки тому +1

      OSHA requires a ladder to extend 3 feet beyond the roof. Which I think is crazy because it creates a trip hazard. What do you feel is violated? You can tie off the ladder, but as far as I know, it is not required. I only tie it off on blustery days.

    You youtubers make it look so easy , I went up to try and replace one shingle and was very careful I had a new roof put on in 2018 I took my time and very carefully tried to remove the shingles going the three shingle up process every shingle I touched broke . I tried to carefully remove the nails and the shingles just came up and left the nails I ended up with a huge bare spot needing 6 shingles and now I am up into the ridge cap and I stopped . Give me an engine or a boat or a muscle car I am good to go but everything went wrong trying to get this fixed. I have one tab blown up from the wind at the other end right against the ridge cap trying to get a hold of a roof I just cant be my mind wrapped around this 🤥🤥🤥🤥🤥🤥 Why does is look so easy on UA-cam ?

      Feeling taller? Why watch a video from a successful female buisiness owner if you think she shouldn’t be out of the kitchen anyway? There must be a better non abusive way to offer feedback. You have to realize how small, insecure, and weak those comments are. I’m actually concerned for women, children, and pets around someone who feels the need to lash out at people. She’s already said her experience has led her to do some things differently now and it’s clear the success her experience has brought her. How much has yours bought you? The video is old enough that if that ridgecap were to come off it would have by now. She’s limited by the reveal of the last installers as well. So be a man and edit the end of this comment and I’ll erase mine. I absolutely hope you have the day you deserve.
