Tsuchiya is never afraid of speed, 200km/h before the last corner is nothing frightening to him. I think he didn't even try and was just having fun in the latest machine and in doing so he also saved the young driver's face.
He says ae86 raised him, but I say he raised me, as a driver. His driving as witnessed on, Best Motoring and Option VHS, were introduced to me by a friend who traveled to Japan for an exchange program. He brought back with him VHS tapes of the Drift King driving. Years later while working at a book store, I ordered the Drift Bible and every Best Motoring DVD we could get, I still remember the day the Drift Bible arrived because it snowed early that year and the snow made it easier to practice drifting. I shared that Drift Bible DVD with everyone I knew looking to get into driving. To this day there is no better way to learn at limit driving than understanding driving via maximum slip, or drift. Which means N2 AE86 can do 1:01 on Tsukuba even if it only has approximately 1/3 the power of a GT3 engine... which means GT3 car isn't anything fast in that regard.

I just noticed how different Hot Version is nowadays. Women used to only be for fan service in this show but now we've got them as drivers too. Very cool.
The E30 does the same as the 86, it really teaches you how to drive fast. I love these 80's cars. Put a big wing and fibreglass body on my e30, still get the rear end to be nervous even with slicks :) It's only got 220 horsepower but I've beat 400 horsepower M3's with it. (And a Lotus, Clio Cup car etc etc)
You know that ae86 really brings out every fault you have. Yes it's not fast, but you need to not only be smooth but learn to be flawless and not be afraid to keep your foot into the accelerator at all times. I can see what they were talking about in the anime now, how that car trains people to drive fast. It's precisely because it's not a fast car you need to maintain the speed and use minimal brakes. If you learn on this type of car, you would be an animal on other cars.
