Hello, my name is Rodrigo, I'm from Brazil and I would like to give my opinion about those supposed robots in the image. I believe they are not robots but rather monuments created by a civilization that probably saw robots as deities. If you look closely, the structure resembles a doll made of fabric and straw and you will notice that there is nothing that looks like gears, pistons or any other type of mechanical mechanism, but the structure has iron beams connecting one part to the other. In addition, in the lower right corner there is a pile of materials that is probably the same material that was used in the construction of these monuments.

Incredible follow up video to your initial trailer video mate! Love all the inspiration sources you are hypothesising for this new release, can see the correlations your drawing from the various anime and also Japanese history/lore. Also, kudos to going to the effort of making that render to show what you meant by the debris field in the distance appearing to be black due to the perspective of the over shoulder shot. Delighted to see others so excited/ passionate about this little 2 minute trailer. A glimpse of greatness to come, no doubt.
Yes from a distance it does look like a wall of black substance. But when you see the mech getting hit by the wall of debris, it becomes obvious that the wall consists of many pieces of other mechs tumbling around & being pushed towards you by an explosion or some other type of force. Fumito Ueda has talked about the lost city of Atlantis before. I believe it was in a 2002 interview. Not sure if this new game will involve Atlantis, but it's interesting that you bring it up. Haven't seen "Castle In The Sky" but now I definitely want to.
Excelent video, and thanks for spreading the info about Nausicaa! I'm now in the team who believes this would be actually the distant past of all his games (altough I agree it doesn't matter that much). The info about the three sacred treasures was really the most precious part of your research for me, 'cause it opened up a whole new area of references I was definitely overlooking, since I'm not immersed in the japanese mythology and religious as well. That mirror parallel with the one in The Last Guardian, damn!!!! I want to take this opportunity to share a list of movies Ueda mentioned in some interviews as a direct influence on his work today, so more people can watch them if they want, and look for more parallels possible, altough Nausicaa seems to be the strongest one: Ueda: "The film Galaxy Express 999 is also an influence, and was released around the same time as Nausicaä. I've also been inspired by Akira - I was inspired by the visual design, character design and artistic direction and technique. For Galaxy Express and Nausicaä, it wasn't so much the art but the story's ambience and mood and the feeling of anticipation that I had as a young boy before the release of these movies. I imagine that there were Ico and Shadow fans out there that were waiting anxiously for the release of The Last Guardian in the same way I once did for these movies, and that was a motivation for me to finish the game." " (Interview by Glixel, 2016) Ueda: "One of the movies that moved me deeply [when I was young] was “Doraemon: Nobita’s Dinosaur”, and perhaps its influence on me can be clearly seen in The Last Guardian. I also went to theaters to watch “Toward the Terra”, “Locke the Superman”, and “Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind”. The formative experiences of the movies I watched then, and the “special feeling” that made animated movies distinct from syndicated anime translated into what I aim for when developing games now." (The World of Fumito Ueda, official artbook released in 2023) - About the whole discussion on "is there any official timeline?", no, there's not, but I'm starting to research around it, interested in gathering whatever statements there are that came from the Man's own mouth. As a starting point, among the interviews that I remember off the top of my head, we have these: The Wired: "You've said the baby we see at the end of Colossus is the first "baby born with horns" referred to in the backstory of Ico." Ueda: "Yes. I wanted to give some idea to the player, after you complete the game, that there was a connection to Ico. That's why I put in the baby with the horns. If somebody goes all the way through the game, I wanted them to be rewarded." (The Wired interview, 2006) Ueda: "If we put just a few extras in [the SotC & Ico HD Collection for the PS3], though, gamers would naturally expect more than what we could provide. Instead of just putting in a few half-baked things, I thought it'd be better to stick with the original concept of staying faithful to the base work. If I get another chance in the future to do a remake, I might wind up changing quite a lot more." (via 1up, 2014. The HD Collection released his two first games in a single package, and contained a brand new painting in its menu, made by himself, connecting the island from Ico to the Forbidden Lands by the ocean, with a little boat navigating from one place to the other.) Ueda: "I transmitted [to Bluepoint] my petition about the content and tuning but I don't know the implementation will be what I told." "It's he who wants to change something," his translator clarified, "but he doesn't know if it is possible to change all of the things he [wants] to change." (via Eurogamer, 2017, about the PS4 remake of SotC. This remake is notorious for having the "79 steps to the Enlightenment", which guided players to reveal a new room under the Shrine of the Worship, containing Dormin's throne. But more importantly, the remake also guided us to find a watermelon on the exact beach that was theorized by players along the years, as being the same beach from the ending of Ico, which contained watermelons and a whole cutscene of the characters eating it. It's important to recognize, though, that we can't know for sure the specific changes requested from Ueda. We have only the word of his translator about being he who wanted to add anything to the remake, and maybe we could compare it to the Demon Souls remake to see if Bluepoint have any history of deliberately adding content without the endorsement of the original creator. Unfortunately, I didn't play any other remake from them.) Ueda: "As for the horns appearing in later titles, namely Shadow of the Colossus and The Last Guardian, I decided to include them to create some form of connection between the games and give the feeling of a shared universe" (The World of Fumito Ueda, 2023) Ueda: "The last three games we created, I didn't intend to be very similar to each other. When I start to create our games, always I think we will create something different. But as a result, in the three games there are some similarities, a feeling. In the process of operation there's a moment when one game links with another. But I don't put it in at the start - it happens in the process. So now I think I'm creating something very different, but the result? I can't say." (via Eurogamer, 2018.) I added this last statement because I think this is the key to understand that he has a process of "tweaking" his art direction and secondary elements, like the lore, only in the late part of his development. I have the impression that, since he admits he is aware of the expectations of his fans, Ueda repeats visual elements of strong meaning in one game into the others in a considerably vague way (such as the horns, the cloak's pattern, the ritual pool, the black energy surrounded by turquoise rim light, watermelons and other stuff), not "because it wouldn't be an Ueda's game without these touches", and also not because he's interested in an intricate world building, but to create "Ma (間)", with the purpose of stimulate fans to fantasize about the backstory of his fictional world: Hayao Miyazaki: “Instead of every movement being dictated by the story, sometimes people will just sit for a moment, or they will sigh, or look in a running stream, or do something extra, not to advance the story but only to give the sense of time and place and who they are. We have a word for that in Japanese. It’s called ma (間). Emptiness. It’s there intentionally. [claps his hands] The time in between my clapping is ma. If you just have non-stop action with no breathing space at all, it’s just busyness. But if you take a moment, then the tension building in the film can grow into a wider dimension. If you just have constant tension at 80 degrees all the time you just get numb.” In other words, using of Miyazaki's analogy here, I think that each time we see one of those visual elements being repeated, they are like the claping of Ueda's hands. An action full of the intention that we delight ourselves with everything that is possible to imagine from empty space between.
Btw, Nausicaa and mazinger Z references were mentionned first by Suda 51, he tweeted it as reaction for the trailer a few minutes/hours after the reveal, i can't wait for the game, i love their works !
I believe you man, a lot of people most likely talked about most, if not all, the inspirations and conclusions that I'm doing in these videos, really :P I'm just trying to take my own conclusions as much as possible (even though I did took a good chunk from the comments on my previous video)
In the original SOTC the "purple smoke" was also present during the animation, which occurred when hitting the seal on the collossi (when they fall) Not to mention the clouds which were quite purple in colour👍🏻👌🏻 You're right, it doesn't matter if it comes before or after in the end👍🏻 The real form of the Dormin? absolutely possible! For me it is also possible that it is a "form of destruction from which life after comes"... I don't know how to explain it😅👌🏻 P.S. The Lightsaber in this Project Robot? (the one hidden in ICO) I don't know how much sense it makes, but it would be nice/fun to find it😂👍🏻
Fumito Ueda himself once said that his next game would be more like SOTC, an experience that would be for a larger, more popular audience, unlike ICO and TLG which are games for a smaller niche of players, so perhaps he seeks to offer an idea and an adventure as epic as SOTC. That said, I think the approach both in the inspirations and in the execution of this next game is to really win over as many people as possible, setting, music and the story that perhaps makes many more references to the previous games, narrative references beyond just Easter Eggs, and we see a bit of this "popularization" effect of the game in the fact that the language spoken in the trailer is English and not the fictional language that is spoken in the previous games and perhaps this is a narrative or marketing choice, after all everyone noticed it, anyway I'm really excited for what's to come.
I did not know of the link with Japan's Three Treasures. Now that you mentioned it, here's one new (or maybe not so new) weird idea: it's very possible you've seen the jewel from the Three Treasures already! It would be right there in the middle of the first game title. "I" is the sword. "C" the jewel. "O" the mirror.
Have you guys ever seen or read the supposedly leaked storyboard of Shadow of the Colossus from 2004? If-IF-it’s not fan fiction, it would explain and confirm a lot of the speculation going on here. Especially regarding the timeline.
@@theKoutoSure thing. That's why I don't want to link them. I only recently became aware of this leak. I initially thought it was fan fiction, but... holy hell, it really opens the door for some thought-provoking ideas about Project Robot.
I had been looking for content about the game for days and couldn’t find anything in spanish, but your channel showed up by chance, and I’ve watched your two videos and they’re amazing. I love seeing people so passionate about Ueda’s games. I’ve subscribed to keep up with your new videos about Project Robot and to check out your other content as well. Greetings from Spain (btw the name Laputa is... awful jajajaj). Regarding the image of Gen Design's 2023 Christmas greeting, is it possible that the upper central part refers to the topography of the terrain in front of us? Using something like a Sonar or a LIDAR from the mecha?
I appreciate it :) Laputa is incredibly unfortunate. xD I actually checked, and I think myiazaki wasn't fully aware of its meaning in spanish, and he totally regretted using that name haha On the gendesign 2023 image, it could definitely be some sort of indicator of that. It is a bit confusing to make anything concrete of it due to the nature of the design of those...whatever those are... One thing I've been thinking actually is that, on animes like Mazinger Z or Evangelion, you have a place where the user/owner of the mech sits to pilot it, right? Some sort of command centre. It doesn't seem to be the case here 🤔 The dude just stays on top of the head of the mech? That is so different and odd...why is that...there seems to be a deeper connection between these two, at least Feliz Navidad e Dia De Los Reyes de Portugal! :P
I believe tlg is before sotc. The white tower is a space ship and the lord of the valley is its ai. I believe that all magical stuff comes from the space ship. And the castle from the other games was build arround the white tower. And thats why it has all those mistical stuff in it and arround it. I beloeve Dormin is another form of the lord of the valley
I need to finish replying TLG but my current timeline would be TLG to SotC to Ico. The tech in Ico seems more advanced with it metal plumbing and gear based lift systems. And from what I remember of TLG only the tech around The Master if the Valley is advanced but still more stone based. Where the boy's village is more low tech.
Great analysis-- very thorough and imaginative enough to hit some real key points, I especially love the deep dive into his influences-yes, the patterns with color are so evident once you point them out. I like this Atlantis theory time line- where a civilization’s high tech was lost and slowly repurposed into the ‘magic’ of Ico/SoTC. (magic is just another word for technology, right? --we call things magic when we dont understand the technology) Another possibility worth exploring is that the TLG lands might be far apart, from Ico/SoTC. Perhaps even on different continents. Civilizations in separate regions could evolve in different ways, leading to advanced societies coexisting with more primitive tribes. Perhaps the core of these civilizations culture could originate in whats happening in Project Robot and it gets splintered off-- similar to theories of builders of the pyramids across the globe-- that it was one source group that made them and let the local area develop it's culture. This could explain how The Last Guardian fits into the same universe but feels so distinct, almost like it’s on the other side of the planet from the medieval and alchemical themes of Ico and SoTC. The love how intellectualized the Fumito Ueda fanbase is.. Thank you for this labor of love!
Thank you :) I still feel like so much of the tech present in ICO is so similar to The Last Guardian...I might point that out in a future video. I wonder if the origin of Trico as a creature could have come from the Master of the Valley wanting to leave the known continent in search of a new home and establishing himself there. And maybe there, he created his own little kingdom with all the existing tech they knew. Maybe he was really someone with incredible knowledge. It feels that way, at least. Mega conspiracy, really. Also curious how the rock formation that The Nest is in is so particular. It feels like it's completely inaccessible by foot. Only Tricos can manage to get in and out. Maybe some Machu Pichu inspiration there? I need to investigate more I guess lol
theory if your theory is correct and this takes place in the waay distance past what if the robot is dormin like we cerate dormin slowly throughout the game upgrading the giant robots ai to be more sentient, Or we the player character become dormin i don't know its im wrong though buts' that's just my theory i could be wrong but it would cool though
if theres a time jump it doesn't need to be a totally different character, the main character itself looks to be a robot or android or smt like that, maybe he was asleep for like thousent's of years and woke up in the future kinda like in breath of the wild (which is clearly also inspired by ghibli stuff) fuck i'm dying to play this game T-T
I appreciate this bombardment of information and look forward to more videos on the subject as new details or theories that deserve attention appear. Merry Christmas to everyone and a great New Year!!
@ 13:00 The way you started drawing parallels between the Japanese Goddess and the concepts between the three boys, at first i started thinking of a Japanese spin on the holy trinity, but since I'm (slowly) starting to research about gnosticism, it'll instead be a Japanese version of whatever THAT may be. Like i said, I only started learning, no biggie if there's disagreements or criticisms.
I personally think TLG takes place before SotC And I think Project Robot will be kinda transformative for the way we go on to view the "technology" in TLG
So the scene when the head departs from the body if you look at the ground you can see a bunch of different lines and markings and kind of lines up with your atlantean theory. Almost like leylines or something. I think those things in particular are very intruiging because they're so unatural looking. Edit: If you look into leylines it could he somewhere along those lines, no pun intended lol
shadow of the colossus marked my life, I'm with high hopes for this new game!

Hello, my name is Rodrigo, I'm from Brazil and I would like to give my opinion about those supposed robots in the image. I believe they are not robots but rather monuments created by a civilization that probably saw robots as deities. Yes from a distance it does look like a wall of black substance. I recommend Max Derrat's channel he goes into the connecting theme, magic, and symbols the tie all three games together in a series of videos
The wander poncho symbol looks like a circuit board. Now that robots are in the timeline it definitely looks like a circuit board.

similar to theories of builders of the pyramids across the globe-- that it was one source group that made them and let the local area develop it's culture.
This could explain how The Last Guardian fits into the same universe but feels so distinct, almost like it’s on the other side of the planet
from the medieval and alchemical themes of Ico and SoTC.
The love how intellectualized the Fumito Ueda fanbase is..
Thank you for this labor of love!
Thank you :)
I still feel like so much of the tech present in ICO is so similar to The Last Guardian...I might point that out in a future video.
Project robot is a prequel to Shadow like the Sumerians being a prequel to our current day… or something
theory if your theory is correct and this takes place in the waay distance past what if the robot is dormin like we cerate dormin slowly throughout the game upgrading the giant robots ai to be more sentient, Or we the player character become dormin i don't know its im wrong though buts' that's just my theory i could be wrong but it would cool though
if theres a time jump it doesn't need to be a totally different character, the main character itself looks to be a robot or android or smt like that, maybe he was asleep for like thousent's of years and woke up in the future kinda like in breath of the wild (which is clearly also inspired by ghibli stuff) fuck i'm dying to play this game T-T
I just can't wait for it, whatever is it, I just want it❤
Man now you made me want this. I'll even be disappointed if it's not. Bruh
I personally think TLG takes place before SotC
And I think Project Robot will be kinda transformative for the way we go on to view the "technology" in TLG
Great video, tho ico is not prounounced as "eye-co" it's "e-ko"
Really enjoying your connections so far and your "timeline display" 😂
Cant wait to just see what kind of game this is, even without the lore.
If it has robots it's in the future
The theories have already started 😭
15:14 é um nome lindo meu amigo haha
keep cooking
Is about lore
I think it's just a different robot😭
Team "EECO", not "I CO". Just saying.
While I'm at it, it's also "GEEBLI".
Does matter
It's not true that the lore is not important, all the games are tied to Mesopotamian mythology.
