The image is older than the teaser trailer (I beileve) so that's why it isn't the same robot ruins. But it seems clear we are witnessing a catastophic event, and I'd also add that the shock wave resembles the black goo that spurts out from the colossi when they are stabbed! Perhaps this was where the black substance originated?
Was looking for your commentary on this Nomad! I also would be thrilled if this was in fact, as you are hypothesising, a prequel to every title. Ueda has always set the worlds in crumbling ruin with remnants of ancient tech, amongst an air of "forgotten lands" seemingly lost to time. All be it, the tech side of things seemingly primitive in the previous titles in comparison to a full blown re imagined mazinger z, it is still heavily implied that we where in a world lost to time in the ruins of a potentially more advanced civilisation. Perhaps we are seeing that advanced civilisation first hand in this instalment, and if so, no doubt more insight into the origins of the black substance!
I thought like you at first but if you look closely, it's just wind carrying debris. Zoom it and you will see that there are a lot of smal parts, spinning, clashing, and I bet it's all trash or technological waste. Plus, when it hits the robot, it's nothing black and we see more metal stuff hitting and destroying the robot. It's interesting to notice that in the concept art we have two robots equal to each other abandoned on the ground. The big robot in this trailer is not special like we are used with yorda/agro/trico, it is disposable! I think the possible catastrophic event have something to do with some sort of war involving mass-produced robots.
Not to mention it also resemble the Queen's dark expansion power attack, although instead of turning people into statues, they bring lots of destruction as a whole natural disaster
The only trailer that gave me goosebumps. Fumito Ueda and his team are able to create an ephemeral world of a lost civilization with a unique atmosphere.
I am kicking myself because when the trailer popped up and it said "Epic Games" I turned away to do something else. It wasn't until I heard the vocals I instantly recognized the style and got goosebumps and remembered the epic partnership with Gendesign. What a wild surprise.
Potentially, this game is defying the themes of the prior games. Instead of being bewildered and intimidated by these larger than life beings, we are to be one with them. We are the creators of our own gods. The aestheticism of robotics articulates the theme. How this manifests in terms of gameplay mechanics is still a mystery, but perhaps we shall be piecing together parts of our own mechanical colossus. All of the Ueda games are obviously thematically linked, but I am hesitant to say that they are literally linearly interconnected. Loving the theories! Great content as usual, Kouto.
Thank you! I would agree, there is evidently a connection between all of these games in terms of theme, aesthetics and world but potentially not in a linear way, even thought it's fun to speculate :P At the end of the day, if you ask me, world building and lore don't "really" matter. What matters is what the creators does with it, what characters can they build and insert in that world and what sort of connections and emotions are translated to the screen to make the player feel that impact. But it's so much fun to theorize about it, it's in human nature I guess. We try and try to understand and make sense of everything around us and it just...truly....doesn't matter.....? But it does? It does! A conflict of emotions! ok i'll stop now lol
BillPow, the only games that are connected and been confirmed they are is SOTC and ICO. TLG is not and never was confirmed to be. It does carry over the dark spirits from ICO but that doesn't really mean much cause I can say it uses ladders from ICO. TLG uses pre-existing content for sure but its not direct connected world. Many like to argue it is, but if Ueda won't say anything about it then TLG is its own universe for now. Which I wish could be expanded on like how ICO was
my dad worked on the Shadow of the Colossus remake at Bluepoint, he was the character artist for the first 7 bosses and 3d modled them and did the main character as well.
The fact that the broadcast mentions a ground zero makes me think that whatever’s happening has been going on for a while, long enough for there to be warnings about it. Also, the mecha kinda reminds me of Mazinger, tbh. The jets on the head make me think of a pilder
I just can’t believe it’s here. We have finally seen the next game from Team Ico. I’m just blown away! It has such a unique world and theme, but it still feels unmistakably Fumito Ueda in every way. I cannot wait, I hope it is not too far away!
In the first few seconds of the trailer with the loudspeaker, it’s interesting to note that the voice sounds like a female announcer, with male-sounding distortion. To me this is reminiscent of Dormin’s voice.
My theory is that these impact shock waves are going to be a periodic occurrence that the player must prepare for. Which begs to question, if they are periodic occurrences will they be story scripted or will they be on a set timer that will provide emergent gameplay? Also, I think this will be a game about venturing throughout a barren, open land while collecting parts for either yourself or trying to build a big mecha. So you'll be scavenging parts from all those derelict giant mechs as seen in the teaser image, possibly to escape the planet or cross the sea? And as stated above, if you aren't able to complete the mecha, you might as well abandon it and start again once the shock waves have past. That said, if the giant mechas are disposable then they may not be your companion character, or maybe they will be your companion but have a disposable "shell?"
I totally agree. They will be timed, and I feel like the robots will be our saviours. The different picture/trailer robots are totally different, and going to save us in different ways
If you are right in relation to periodic acourance, then it will be like other wilds. You have a limited time to the end of the world, then time resets and you remain with the knowledge of your previous attempts
Could be, maybe like in Rain World. God how I would love a game where the present most prodigious smaller/creative studios would collaborate. Just imagine Team Ico, Mobius Digital, Videocult, Daniel Mullins Games, Billy Basso, ... working together. Is there no billioniare philantropist around who also happens to be a hardcore gamer?
My first thought after seeing the Robot's face was that it's Malus, but it also kinda resembles Gaius I guess. But based on the body shape I still lean more towards Malus.
This is a great, well-informed insight into this mind-blowing and heart-wrenching teaser. If I'm not mistaken you haven't pointed out this one specific moment (near 7:31) when the human-sized character looks at the robot's head and puts his hand on it (it looks almost like he/she's comforting the robot) then looks at the incoming shockwave. This moment, coupled with the beautiful eerie music coming in, made me tear up big time !
Aw you caught that too. I noticed that right away. The first thing I thought was how in "The Last Guardian" the boy will rest his hand against an object he's next to if you go several seconds without moving him. Perhaps that's all this is, just something for our character to do when you aren't controlling him. Then again he (she? it?) could be trying to comfort the robot just as you said. All I know is that I'm beyond excited for this new game & it better get a physical release.
@@timmadone8930Yes, you're right about the boy in TLG, leaning his hand on nearby objects when not controlled by the player (I almost forgot that detail). But I still do think this gesture has a purpose. The character looks at the robot's head, then puts his hand on it, then looks at the shockwave. It all happens in a second's time, the animation here is very precise, this is so carefully done. (Btw this gesture is quite the same in the concept art/miniature, except the robot's head is missing.) Beyond excited too though it looks like our patience will be tested. But I'm convinced the game will be worth the wait.
It is loosely based on jack and the beanstalk. The protagonist ascends to the world of the giants to retrieve a girl that was kidnapped by a giant for her beautiful singing voice. (you can see official concept art of the girl and the giant somewhere online.) the game is supposed to be a love story between the girl and the semi mechanical being who rescues her. There are two realms in the game. The realm of the giants above the clouds. And then there is the realm below the clouds which is sort of a mechanical wasteland of sorts populated by semi mechanical beings. The most interesting thing about this whole game though is that the girl does not seem to belong to either of these realms. because she is neither a giant nor is she semi mechanical. Making this very curious The game is a puzzle solver like the rest of uedas games but this one has a strong emphasis on stealth.
great video! I've been doing a bit of theorising with others on the reddits, but one thing I hadn't really thought of in the slightest is how different the concept art of the robot is from the trailer robot. Now, this concept art is OLD (from 2021), so maybe they've made changes to the design since. but if we take it as it being still an accurate depiction of current design, The robe/poncho of the character is different too. So it either means the character has a different outfit on or, like you said, it is someone different. The voodoo idea is incredibly intriguing too and could make for some very interesting storytelling! Another thing is that the Robot seems to resemble the final Colossus the most AND the music feels very reminiscent of the final Colossus music too! Give it a look yourself, there's quite a few similarities. Once again, great video, loved it! So happy we can all share our hype together
Oh and the concept art has since been revealed as a bigger image to what you've shown (That you may have seen already) the debris in the left corner is, Infact, another mech!
Thank you! :P The concept art is honestly really intriguing. Maybe yeah it's like you said, old design that just didn't hold. But why would they use it for marketing? They even use it on their own channel as a thumbnail for the trailer, so I'm guessing it is "cannon" so to speak. Which makes even more of a question mark really 😂 it definitely does not feel like the same robot, or at least something drastic happened that we simply don't understand it's nature? Maybe nature took hold of it somehow? A struggle of nature & robots? Why am I getting Nausicaä flashbacks? Idk anymore xD Oh yeah the last colossus does have a ton of resemblance (visually & music) with this trailer I can absolutely see it...and hear it... So many questions.
Shadow of the colosuss changed my Life ... I remember.. i was like 7.. my dad told me he got a new Game... Shadow of the colosuss... (Ps2)... I didnt knew anything about the game.. i even got scared with the first colossi... Then my older sister tried and beat 4 of them... (Phaedra).. but days later the ps2 broke and i forgot about the game... 7 years later... (2018)... The remake of the same Game... I Saw the trailer and i couldnt stop smiling because of it... There was something inside of me telling me that i needed to finish that Game... I bought It in 2020 for the ps4..... And finally finished that Game... 7 times in a month and even got with all the throphies... Then in 2022 i played again... Till 2024 when i decided i was gonna tattoo that Game on my skin of how unique and significant was for me... Till this day i cant find a Game at the level of shadow of the colosuss... Im so hyped for this Next proyect... Even my dad has the same tattoo as me..
@beltranalonsomoreno1826 thats silly. Then you didnt even play the game. It was all spoiled by 2018. The real magic was in the early days. There was a demo that had the first two areas and people (me included) were playing it, speculating, and exploring. You had to discover almost evetyyhing as the internet wasnt like it was today. I cried when agro died it was such an unexpected shock. The game really drug you through the mud and by the time you finished you really felt changed. See if you can get that cringe tattoo removed as you kindof missed the real magic of the ps2 days. Everything after was a nostalgia cash grab.
@durbeshpatel3047 what you mean? Yeah the remake was not necessary but what else could i do at 7 yrs old... I have over 300 hours in that Game and yeah i dndt play the demo but i can asure you im not a cocomelon kid... I really enjoyed my ps2
@@CJTranceAddiction I play a variety of styles of games. Shadow Of The Colossus was the FIRST game that I fell in love with. GTA 2 was one of the first games I played EVER. It is vastly different games tho 😅 My top franchises of all time. 1. Ico/Shadow of the Colossus 2. Metal Gear 3. GTA 4. Silent Hill 5. Fromsoft
I have thought exploring the ruins in SotC felt like an ancient advanced civilization that had fallen so long ago their trace was nearly completely wiped out. The colossi seem to guard the remaining black substance until it is set free by the wanderer. My theory is that this ancient cataclysm somehow fused this black substance with these mechs possibly controlled by the same ancient AI as in the Last Guardian. Kind of like a primordial ooze (similar to that in Death Stranding) could potentially bring these machines to life. Just kind of a random theory based off clues from the 3 previous games. It seems like they were eluding to an advanced ancient civilization all along.
It can't be a prequel to shadow of the colossus, I think. Fumito Ueda's games kinda progresses in the kind of technology we see within them. The Last Guardian is the furthest in the chronological sense, and we can see a bit of more advanced technology showing up in it. The big tower-anthena in the center of the valley controlling wirelessly all Tricos is an example. IF the Project Robot is really connected to the original trilogy shared timeline, it most likely will keep following the pattern of jumping in a huuuuuuge amount of time. Eras in the future, in the same way Ico is eras after SotC and TLG is eras after Ico. Unless we consider the Team Stage 0 leak, containing old Ueda's backstory (2004) mentioning a cataclysm, eras and eras and eras before SotC. I don't like take it serious because even if it isn't fake, it's most likely an abandoned backstory in the same way Ueda abandoned the original sci-fi backstory of Ico and abandoned the "beauty and the beast" ending of SotC. Now bringing MY personal lore theories to the table: I deeply believe these games tell us about cycles, repetitions, of people trying to do what Dormin have done in the past. The Queen is absorving his power via horned children's blood to defy death, and the Master of The Valley have that exact same pool from the forbidden lands, put close to his sarcophagus in that freezing room inside the tower. Dormin did "something wrong in the past" and turn itself into a powerful being capable of manipulate life and death. As the time flows a sorceress or a scientist discovers about the secrets of what happened in the forbidden lands, and try to replicate stuff from there somehow, wishing to live forever. If it all makes sense, and this game is in the far future of it all, I wonder if these giant robots couldn't be at least aesthetically or simbolically inspired by the colossi. After all, the colossi were also...... technology. As NerdDoll showed us very well in her videos, the colossi AREN't spontaneous living beings, and they were created by man with an specific function (contain and protect hidden parts of dormin inside them). I wish I could have more info on the protagonist's design, though, because of that cloak's pattern... I don't know, maybe the protagonist could be directly from the same social/cultural group as Wander and Ico, but for now I'm guessing he is just appropriating stuff from myths he learned about. Anyway, just making it clear, I don't think that the whole connection thing is what really matters on these games. Each of them are important for themselves alone.
I think it either going to take place in the distant past with an ancient civilisation or the far future, those are the the only things that make sense to me.
If it is in the distant past, then that ties to what others mentioned about some storyboard that in the Ico/Sotc/TLG universe, there was an ancient civilization that got wiped out by a cataclysm, which resulted in the regression of technology within the next thousands of years. If Project Robot takes place in the far future, then that could explain why some form of English was being spoken in the teaser trailer and how the giant mech that we see probably took inspiration from the legends of the colossi of Sotc (game) that's been passed down thru many generations by the people in that world.
I love reading comments like this. These games really elicit such deep thinking and interpretation. To the point of people like yourself writing articles about it is a testament to the power of their world building like no other. To which creates this wonderful by product of fan fiction/fact/ interpretation of rabbit holes that honestly , I think I love almost as much as the actual experience of the game itself. Going to look for that article now.
The Last Guardian isn't a linear prequel or sequel to the others, it's a parallel world connected through the pool. Check the art book interviews for more details.
@@killerking2346 Hm... which artbook you say? The most recent official artbook, released in 2023, have statements from Ueda himself saying TLG is in the same universe of Ico and SotC. He says that when he answers a question if he adds horns, "light and shadow", and other elements on purpose to create a continuity. Its in the page 11 of PDF with the English fantranslation.
Pretty late to find this video, but when I saw the trailer I did exactly the same thing. Couple more things I noticed: The robotic voice shares a woman's and man's voice like Dormin. So even though it is English, there may still be a connection. When the character uses the jump pad, you can see more machinery on the valley floor in the distance. Finally, something I only put together after you shown me the promotional poster, is how the character is touching the robot. Those two robots are absolutely the same, even if their appearance may change throughout development. When the character gets to the top of the robot, he looks at the incoming shockwave, looks at the robot, reaches out to touch the robot (not simply for balance), and looks back at the shockwave. The way the character is touching the headless robot in the promotional poster matches the intimacy.
This was a really awesome video to watch!! I totally share the sentiment of this being the game awards highlight; when I was first watching the footage, as soon as the teaser showed that final O in Ico I completely lost my mind. XD Elden ring dlc? Okay yeah cool. Witcher 4? Okay yeah that's looks neat. Huh okay, c, i- ICO!? UEDA!? OH MY GOSH OH MY GOSH IT'S FINALLY HERE!!!! I've also been looking really deep into this teaser and I've noticed quite a few of the same things you did. Although some of those things I was unable to put into words and I think you did quite well, notably the noises at the very start of the teaser, the complex nature of the mech, the strange detachment, and the difference of the mech between the art and the teaser. When it comes to the purple/pink hue of the shockwave, I do personally believe it to be an aesthetic choice due to my experience analyzing The Last Guardian. The color aesthetics in his games are something not a lot of people seem to point out but it's something I consider a lot as an aspiring artist. In The Last Guardian, light blue colors acted as a sort of guide, a light, or other things of importance. You can see this in the barrels / barrel butterflies that Trico needs, Trico's horns that guide the way in darkness, the tiles that show you generally where you need to go in buildings, and you can even include the sky as it's the direction the boy and Trico are trying to go. The Master of the Valley also has the light blue but also the darkness surrounding it. But Ueda seemed to use a lot of pinkish colors to signify danger or power in that game, such as Trico's eyes when he's being controlled, in fear, or angry, the lightning, or again a tiny bit of the sunset sky at the end of the game to show something is coming. So I personally believe he's continuing that stylistic choice in this new game with both the pink/purple shockwave and the light blue colors of the jump pad and ladder. I can also note the red-green contrast in the art with what we see in The Last Guardian, with the environment sometimes being either green or a neutral color like brown whereas the boy's main outfit is a mix of white and red to make it stand out from that environment. Which could actually bring me to Ico and Yorda as they're also a red-white character combo in a place with either a lot of neutral colors or the green grass. I personally didn't think too much of the art at first, as the time between when the art was made versus this teaser might have made room for those changes. My thought is that the character and mech in the art is indeed the same ones in the teaser, or at least the character is, except they altered it to make it more suitable in-game. I do think your thoughts on it are really interesting though and are good things to take into consideration! It does seem like there are multiple mechs and perhaps there's ones with varying designs much like Shadow of the Colossus... maybe some avian robots? 👀 Would be pretty cool. Another thing is that the sounds at the start sound more like a nasally growl to me, much like you would hear from Trico. This makes me think there's also still organic life forms in this game (be it human or feral) that contrast the robots. So I personally don't think those sounds are connected to anything we were able to look at in the teaser but I could be wrong. My final thought I'll share here is that I'm hoping this game will sort of explain the technology we see in the other games, so perhaps another prequel. Like maybe a lot of the technology gets destroyed by the end and the robots go extinct, but if there's humans in this world somewhere that are alive after the fact, they might have pieced together what scrap was left to do their own weird mystical things with. This might be a little out there but maybe it's the humans causing the explosions to due away with the futuristic approach to life, going back to traditional values? The resemblance of the flat plains the mech is in and the outside of The Nest in The Last Guardian also makes me think that it's a prequel to that game to some capacity. In any case I'm super excited to see even more interpretations of this teaser and hopefully we get more official footage sooner rather than later!!
You did a very interesting job, it is clear that you have a great passion for this work and the previous ones. Now let me explain what I think you see in the trailer and how I interpret some things. The robot you see from behind, golden, is this, APHRODITE A, from the world of Mazinger. The photo was probably taken at a fair dedicated to new releases of manga and anime series models to leave clues about the robotic nature of the game. The photo with that now abandoned and headless robot in my opinion is not the robot you see in the trailer, but rather one of the many that probably populate that timeline, they were probably used as defense machines, as weapon systems and it is quite logical to think that there was not just one, but many, even of different structures and for the most varied tasks. It makes sense to think that in the trailer, the alarm broadcast via radio is reaching many regions, areas where these machines and their pilots were, making it plausible that we are dealing with a world full of these giant warriors and their pilots who must save themselves, but given the size of the explosion like a metallic tsunami, it prevents the escape of the entire machine body, allowing only the head to escape. It therefore makes sense to believe that the story develops many years after this TSUNAMI, and there are many bodies of these fallen giants, now in ruins, scattered throughout the game world. In all this desolation, however, it is likely that the protagonist will find a head that still has energy and in the game he will look for a functioning body to fuse with, or who knows, maybe in the game the head will be able to fuse with many different models, which will be able to perform different actions. One last thing, in my opinion it makes no sense to believe that these giants are the giants of SOC, because the colossi had one or more vital, energetic points that made them somehow alive, which would clash with the robotic nature of an automaton composed only of mechanisms and not of its own vital spirit. I'll add one more thing, seeing the details of the pilot's legs and hands, it seems almost certain that it is a robot and not a human, but knowing the poetic and romantic nature of the author, it is more likely that it is a cyborg, because this would mean that the pilot is still even if minimally human, thus allowing the pilot to be able to suffer or still feel something human under the mechanisms of his body, which will probably have to couple or resonate with that of his giant mech. Greetings from Italy and now more than ever since the days of TLG, I await with fucking impatience this new adventure and the emotions that will derive from it. See you next time!
Awesome video! Loving the similarities and parallels your drawing between this new title and sotc. If you break down the previous titles you have basically four main points of interest: 1. The environment/ world 2. The protagonist 3. The companion(s) 4. The perceived antagonist/ dark matter that envelops it. All of which we may have gotten a glimpse of in this trailer. More to the "explosion", I felt the purple light may possibly be more of a light from the horizon in some sort of beautiful all be it brief, glimpse at the world in which we will inhabit in this coming title. One thing that stood out to me as much as the pattern on our new possible protagonists cloak was the immense black/dark incoming debris when our little character is sitting atop the mechs shoulder just before they mazinger z's themselves as an attempt to escape the onslaught of incoming debris. I feel, as you eluded to in this trailer; the shots are undoubtedly intentional. This is the first trailer, and as ambiguous as it seems its also incredibly revealing. This team is renowned for their story telling through interpretation and would have worked tirelessly to make an impression and tell a story ESPECIALLY for a reveal trailer on their brand new title. Therein I believe they have tied all 4 of the main points of interest into that shot. Personally, at least I see it as this. A protagonist, sitting atop the shoulder of the companion looking out to the world/ environment and upon the horizon a massive , incoming black mass of destruction approaching. Where and how that all ties together, I am, as are many others beyond eager, absolutely delighted, excited and extremely grateful to get to know in time. What an absolute delight.
Thank you! :D Oh yeah, no doubt that EVERYTHING that you see (and don't see) is absolutely intentional. These guys aren't dumb. They have been crafting meticulously as much as they can. I'm puzzled about why they tried to keep the head/helmet of the character so off screen. We couldn't see it from the front clearly, so there is most definitely something there to look for in the future for sure, and so much more, the hype is real!
so far by how easy it was to remove the head of big robot it gives the ideia that the smaller robot is a scavenger and can replace parts and build and replace robot parts with stuff you find on the map
It didn't seem to be easy to me! If you look closely, all the cables detach from the rest of the body in an almost visceral way, with sparks flashing all around. It feels like it was a last resort sort of movement in order to escape the shock wave
The language sounded reminiscent of Panzer Dragoon. I would die for Fumito Ueda to make a Panzer Dragoon game. The aesthetic and lore are pretty similar to his work but uedas art direction is unmatched
Shadow of the Colossus was the first game I played that turned gaming on it's head for me. I played MGS but as a kid, I just saw it a game and it was still pretty much a game. SotC though...when I found out that it was only these 16 colossi and nothing else in the world, but managed to breathe life into the world with minimal storytelling fascinated me beyond belief. What I had thought was maybe this was WAY into the future. In the far future, mankind is either extinct or dwindling underground. You play an android that travels the world that has been decimated by that dark matter in the distant, maybe Dormin eventually destroys life way after SotC. The giant robot in the shot, I speculated as a wild out of field thought, could be the idea of a 17th colossus but not the ones that are from SotC. This one could be built by mankind after discovering the corpses of those 16 that fell. Maybe Dormin was able to return because mankind progressed too far and no one could handle it. All that intelligence thrown into the science of things that maybe the world had lost it's faith. Nothing to pass down the religious knowledge, past events, etc.
Thank you for dropping a video so quick thought I was gonna have to wait months for people to talk about this game but the fans are so excited that can’t wait haha. Great annals of the video my theory is that this is in the past and that black stuff is dorman in some way and maybe seal him at some point in this game. Yoo the Mecca looking like the 3rd colossus is kind of crazy and a cool detail I didn’t notice.
What a rad analyses, thank you. Small note (and maybe you've covered this in other videos)- I'm watching some side by side comparisons and noticed just how much purple skies are in the ps2 and ps3 versions of SotC. There's way less purple in the ps4 remaster in these side-by-side comparisons. Maybe, like you said, this is just an aesthetic choice... lets take a step back, though-- Using this SAME aesthetic choice FEELS like a deliberate, conscious decision that ties Project : Robot and SotC together, way more than anything else (to me at least). Anyway, thanks again! Subbed and looking forward to more analyses from you
Some possible things and aspects of future game: The robot's head has to be an important part of the gameplay (Considering how much time and drawings they spent on it). It will probably be separate from the body - joystick control is perfectly suitable for flight and rotation. But it is confusing that the control cabin was not shown in the trailer. We also saw another technologically advanced robot with black matter inside its head in the sketch, and it was a 3D model and not a concept. The arm that was shown at few arts (not same that was in the trailer), possibly (with an retractable oscillate instrument or even weapon that was shown at the same sketch) I think the helmet opens up and becomes similar to the one worn by the character on the old 2021 concept (character that have no rifle and Wander's cape) An AI companion, sometimes giving comments and advice, is a good narrative tool when popup hints in the form of an interface are undesirable. It is improbable that he will frequently appear, rather as a narrator in TLG who prevents you from reaching a dead end and elucidates the less obvious aspects. Judging by the fact that targets are visible on the radar and the character or even the robot's head has a weapon, then there will be enemies. Ueda is not against them and even wanted to add enemies to SOTC
It looks like Kow Otani will be involved again! His classic signature in subtle notes that denote loneliness. It will be quite a journey! We can notice something interesting since ICO, the fact that chronologically there seems to be significant technological advances, we can see this in TLG, where the master of the valley has almost extraterrestrial technologies in his favor. It seems like an eternal struggle between darkness and light.
Oh my, if Kow Otani is involved you know the music will be full of emotion. While he's created lots of great music over the years, his soundtrack for "Shadow Of The Colossus" is probably what he'll best be remembered for. I've seen people comment that they've never played the game, but they love the music. The fact the CD soundtrack has never gone out of print even after almost 20 years is a testament to how much the music is loved & appreciated.
It's the same robot but after it was hit by the blast. You can't tell by the still image that he found the headless robot, maybe we have to put it back together and make it work. I really like the idea of it being a prequel to SOTC, GREAT WORK!
Tech for the first time is this series. Some kind of Cataclysm that cant be stopped, and the game is a bond with a robot that you are going to help rebuild, maybe? This is the best game series of all time and can't wait for this!
I think the reason the robot in the trailer doesn't look like the one in the photo is because the one in the trailer is still in a raw state of development as it appears at the beginning of the trailer "footage not final" and the graphics don't seem finished, as you can see in the lack of details in the main character. I didn't know about this channel but it has already gained another subscriber. congratulations on the excellent work.
The music/choir specifically reminds me of the music that plays each time you defeat a colossus, which makes sense since we're literally watching the destruction of a "colossus". I don't feel like there's necessarily a connection with the previous games; there could be, but a lot of it could also just be explained by the same director applying their signature aesthetic to something different. I don't know about Totoro or The Iron Giant, but I'm getting strong Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind vibes: a protagonist wandering a wasteland littered with the decaying wreckage of God-Soldiers after a nuclear-level apocalypse.
Absolutely, Nausica and the thrmes and nature vs. technology/humanity feel incredibly present here, yeah. The game will most likely stand on its own, just like all other three, but it's definitely in the same universe, and crazy folk like us are gonna try to connect every single dot 🤣
Another thing, I'm seeing a lot of comparisons to Nausicaa and while I think they are apt, my thoughts also go to the guardian robots of Laputa in Castle in the Sky. There's something about the look of that giant mecha in the teaser image that reminds me of the body build of those guardian robots. Laputa's guardians had very "organic" looking internals, almost as if they had arteries or veins. The giant mecha in the teaser image may have a similar "organic" interior that becomes exposed once the shock waves have torn off the external plating. The head being ripped from the body in the trailer has a rather "organic," visceral feel as well.
My 2c: - That doesn't look a nuclear explosion to me for several reasons: a) the "event horizon" looks too much like a straight line. b) Even if the protagonist is on higher ground, there is no sign of the fungus cloud, not even the "pillar" base. c) I would expect a lot more dust in the air following the impact wave while in the first shot you can clearly see the black material rising and even if there seems to be something at the very end, it almost looks like some sort of mist rather than dust, it should obstruct vision a lot more if it was dust in my opinion. - I wouldn't pay too much attention on the image at the 15:18 mark. It looks to me some sort of concept art and if so it shouldn't reflect too closely the final product. Also, the charachter could just be leaning to the robot husk simply for balance. - It looks more like the final colossus to me than the third. Mainly for the slot at the back of the head and because the other colossi looked more like natural beasts (with the fur and all) while the last one already looked more robotic and I could see the head detatching and take flight. - I agree that this could be a distant past relative to Shadow and what we're seeing is the catastrophe that ended it.
Totally agree! Yeah, when comparing a nuclear explosion effect on houses (from famous American footage) and compared to this, it's nothing alike. The only similarity is the parallel that it creates. It's an explosion that shapes the world to something anew.
Hi Kouto! There's a moment in the video where you point out the similarities between the 3rd Colossus and the robot from the trailer. I also wanted to add something that I noticed. The moment the player character climbs on the robot's head, we can see that the back of its head is VERY reminiscent of that of the 16th colossus' (dubbed "Malus" by the fans). There's a "U-shaped gap" where the character is supposed to climb. I don't think "IT'S MALUS!" or anything, rather I like to think that if this game is set in the future of the ICO/SOTC/TLG universe, maybe this advanced civilization started designing the robots in the image of the colossi. Think of the colossi as ancient gods that inspire the works of artists and scientists. I really enjoyed your analysis!
Yeah, i do believe it's a robot. That spin he does in the air is something a very skilled human could do or something that isn't a human (like a robot) could do. Maybe now we are going to able to see humanity in something that it's not a human. To me, Fumito's Ueda games has shown us in a lot of different ways what it is to be a human through emotions. Maybe now we are going to see a human made of steel. Sorry, English it's not my first language
EDIT: Had to pause and go do something. came back and finished watching it. typed this out as i watched. project robot last guardian SotC and then finally ICO. hes making them backwards! cool you should look into the Younger Dryas and the whole ancient civ of our world being wiped out around that time. This sounds to be another biblical flood style game. TLDR i get NGE vibes among other end of world style and im a fan of the other games so im hyped. As a Zelda and Kingdom Hearts theorist, it reminds me of Alchemy at 8:16 In BotW and TotK i theorized the tech is a form of Alchemy and sure enough TotK came out and only added confirmation to it. Those colors are a major aspect to alchemy and given how SotC lore is very similar to Zelda in a way (ancient civ lost to time immemorial thats magic but now revealed to possible be giant robots just grown over and built on top of by later cultures after a flood event.) Purple and black usually have to do with Darkness so i could see tech being the darkness that ended civilization. As others have stated the black flames look like destroyed tech rolling around and even as you see as the head comes up, below it looks like some sort of broken machinery hits. Could be how the tech is powered? Dormans origins? as to Fulminating Gold? "Fulminating gold was the first high explosive known, and was noted in western alchemy as early as 1585." So perhaps that has some connections there. its been forever since i played SotC and the other games and kind of want to replay them to see if there are more alchemy connections. Alchemy has a lot to do with science, and religion. Infact part of the goal was to create gold out of lead or create the elixir of life, the Philosophers stone. It can also be used to create mercury into gold as well. theres also a process called the magnum opus that has a set of steps, each with a set of colors and explanations. nigredo, albedo and rubedo. and fulminating gold creates that purple cloud which could be seen as a form of alchemy. if we look at it in the way of tech, its literally gold particles in the air absorbing light giving it a purple hue to the cloud. nigredo is the process of decomposition, so thats another way to look at the purple and black wave flood. 9:25 at the top is a few alchemical symbols as well mainly the eye and the down facing triangle. The Downward triangle with no line in it means Water, and the eye is often seen as insight, awareness and or spiritual vision. Its also on the back of the 1 dollar bill. The Triforce in Zelda is basically a modified version of the symbol of the philosopher's stone too. Another Ueda ghibli fav of his actually has a lot to do with SotC too, Nausicaa. Which again goes back to NGE, Neon Genesis Evangelion. Thanks for the video, now IM going down a rabbit hole for another series lmao. 10:27 another alchemy thing and even a religious thing across many cultures is yin yang, light vs darkness. If Dorman is darkness and was sealed within these mechs, these mechs look like at this point only powered by light (whatever that could be) and due to the events of your actions in this game results in SotC and Dorman being split apart and sealed. Fits the mech, tech, god narrative japan loves having. I love it too. So im even more hyped for this game. 10:52 im wondering if the light is being produced by sonoluminescence. 13:11 no your not crazy i hear it too. I think this is a prequel of sorts. 15:27 I think its towards the end of the war if there is one or some sort of post war event were humanity is all but gone and lost the war and this is the last ditch effort to seal it away in 16 Robots. Im also wondering if we have to go around and scavenge for parts to build said robots. Ueda wanted more than 16 colossi in the original game, and so this could be a way to show there was indeed more but also a plot twist of what those colossi are. Maybe the robots we fight in this are the old cut content like Spider, Phoenix, Devil etc etc Heck that would also make sense to what the shrine of worship is. A hub to control each robot after it was built then move them to a location before sealing the lands. I love the lore implications this game is gonna have on SotC if this is indeed a prequel. I knew youd mention how the robot looks like the 3rd colossus. In fact the tower is basically the Tower of Babel. And finally great video, gave me some ideas since ive been stuck for over a month on what i could do next for my channel, make me hyped since i never played last guardian. im gonna go replay sotc tho for sure lol and thanks for gettin my brain goin lol i wouldnt be surprised if we have to pilot each robot we build to fight a piece of dorman to seal it in that robot. As many have also said the spot on the head is also the weak point on many colossi as well. thats prolly where you must stand on a few of em. Also if you know about Dormins origins from what Ueda said, hes based on Nimrod the god that created the tower of babel.
From the behind perspective, the giant robot's head looked almost exactly like Malus' from SoTC, but from the front view, the "ears" are higher. Just more SoTC connection
This makes me wonder if the Colossus were actually robots, just covered in moss. If this is indeed set in the same world, there is clearly some relation between this giant robot and the Colossus, even if it's just that one was made in imitation of the other. I have suspected in the past that Dormin was actually a kind of A.I. that was sealed away centuries before, strange as that may sound. “Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic” I know that The Last Guardian shows there was a technological advanced civilization at some point in this world.
i like the “old science is magic now because people don’t exactly understand how it works” kind of world building, so i’m hoping that this is a prequel to everything. dormin could have been somebody’s (or multiple people’s) consciousness extracted from their body into a cloud of data for example (similar to the gestalts of nier replicant). all the magic in ico could have been advanced weaponry and science used for, what seems to be, a world war 3 or 4 in project robot. while the people in the last guardian exist in a sort of tribal, traditional society, there exists a mind controlling tower that’s totally scifi, leading me to think that it probably was used to fight something, given how it has its own soldiers and a way to sustain itself. i’d like to think that it was used in a war so long ago people forgot it existed, and is enigmatically referred to as the master of the valley. thinking about nier replicant, dormin seems to be a gestalt too. dormin talks in different voices, and can split itself into shadow people and even 16 parts that give sentience to rubble (presumably), it makes me think that this is humanity’s way of preserving themselves past the collapse of the world. maybe it is like nier replicant, maybe that’s why shards of dormin wander around peacefully without trying to seek revenge against the ones that split dormin up, maybe that’s why dormin is fair and straightforward in its deal with wander and its ultimate goal is to find a host. maybe the “spirits” of humanity became demented after centuries, and bundled together to form the gestalt that is dormin, a creature with a completely new identity who yearns to simply live again. i would personally enjoy the idea that these games share the same universe, even thought it would make project robot incredibly bleak as no matter what you do, you won’t save the world or heal it, but the incredibly hopeful thing is that there is life after the apocalypse. while gears of war persists, humanity too rebuilds, and by the time of ico (which is theorized to take place after sotc i think), there are now kingdoms with languages, customs, and magic. and if the games are connected, then maybe this one will explain why people can turn into shadows, and what’s with the horns that tricos, the armors have and that dormin has. back to this game, i’m hoping that i’ll get to pilot the robot (or actually, maybe, robots) around to punch things or solve puzzles. i think that’s the natural next step after all. instead of climbing colossi, now you are the titan. i think the game might take place in a world on the brink, maybe at the end of a war. the robot looks big and strong, but the protagonist has a gun, so it seems like there are threats of both size; or maybe the protagonist will use robots to traverse a toxic, radiated landscape while hunting with his rifle. i’m just hoping to ride robots but yeah, that image and the robot in the trailer could totally have been the same. the explosion might have stripped away the plating, revealing the wiring and cords underneath. maybe the character is distraught that his vehicle is broken, and needs a moment to think, or maybe he’s admiring the crater left behind by the bomb. who knows. excited. by the way, you misspelled “design”, just letting you know
Whatever it all means, I am just excited as heck haha. I have so many fond memories of SotC and ICO. I thought The Last Guardian was fun and cute, but it doesn't have the same weight as the others. Shadow of the Colossus was one of my first solo gaming experiences as a kid; I played ICO after discovering it. To this day I still remembering racing around on Agro, thinking it was one of the best things ever. Then, being in absolute awe at the scale of the Colossi. I've yet to feel the same with any game since. I may have come close a couple of times, but never truly the same.
@@theKouto Aww, that's so cute. It truly was a magical feeling as a kid (especially a horse crazy one), even with the annoying camera. The fun just overshadow it. I hadn't even thought about that until you mentioned it lol. That's how much I enjoyed myself.
Oh yes those symbols on the robe are clearly the same type of "cult"... Well yes... I also believe that here we are faced with the origin of colossus (seen as a religion by a post-apocalyptic people if we want to speculate😉👍🏻) It goes without saying that the "black shape" that approaches, causing the shock wave, we can imagine what it is... (is it possible that it turns into stone as it passes?) There is one question, however, that makes me believe that we are in a prequel, in addition to the coincidences mentioned... If we see the face of the robot "child" it looks a lot like Emon's mask👍🏻👌🏻 (or at least comparing them it seems very similar)
I believe this would be a prequel to Shadow of the Colossus, The Last Guardian but somehow related to Ico (based on the level of technology) and we might get to explore the Forbidden Land before it was abandoned by its population (the Forbidden Land we find in Shadow of the Colossus) My craziest theory is that those robots will become somehow the Colossi in a quite distant future, maybe the civilization had advanced technology, something terrible happened and those robots became living beings combined with nature. Finally, I'd like if we played as Dormin before it was transformed into the semigod we find in Shadow of the Colossus, and maybe our soul give life to those robots so the can become Colossi. Either way I really hope we get to know more about the lore, Forbidden Land, it's civilization and history. IDK! 😂❤ I'm pretty exited, sorry for my crazy ideas. Cheers from Guatemala.
I’m just so happy we get to see anything just so that I know they’re working on it. This is like another Bible coming out. Nothing else even mattered to me at TGA except for Okami but Uedas works are deeper.
I am interested in the new Elden Ring spin off, but only if it has a single player mode. Right now it looks as if it doesn't. As for "Project Robot", I feel pretty much the same way. I watched the entire awards show, but the only thing I've been able to think about from that show is the gameplay footage from Fumito Ueda's 4th game. I too felt like nothing else mattered. As for "Okami 2", I've only ever played the PS2 demo for the first game. Perhaps it's time I play the entire game.
The sound you referred as breathing at the start of the trailer is the same that preceeds the start of the song "you were there" in ICO's soundtrack". I have no idea to what that connection could be, if not to symbolize the same ambience where it takes place.
Very good point, could this be just a reference? Otherwise, the beginning of the song partly describes the atmosphere in the trailer, although it is unlikely 😄 The island bathes in the sun's bright rays. Distant hills wear a shroud of grey. A lonely breeze whispers in the trees. Sole witness to history.
At 20:05 i think the robot looks more like the 16th colossus ( Malus) given its head shape, the curved horns which the robot has those ear jets that kinda reminisce of that design and of course the top head shape. Definitely reminded me of that more so which would make it even more interesting if this is a prequel to SOTC, then again it could be just a standalone. Either way its exciting!
That explosion or wave seems to unleash the same black energy we see in Ico and SoTC. Doesn't seem to have a nuclear vibe, but something else. It does seem the pilot character is either android or cyborg. This could be a opening sequence in the game and you then must pickup the pieces after the explosion event or the story could pick up much further in the future and you are a explorer reassembling the remaining parts of the mech. Regardless I can't wait to experience another world from Fumito Ueda!
Would be absolutely wild if this is a prequel. It showcases the world pre cataclysm before what we see in the other 3 games. I feel like this being in the future is too obvious
I find interesting that in the image of the fallen robot in nature, we can see the character either assembling or removing parts from it. Maybe that is something connected to the game mechanics or maybe not.... We do have more than one robot tho
That could very well be the case. But I have a feeling there will be one mech in particular that we will go on a journey with & get very attached to, only to have something tragic happen at the end. This would certainly follow in the footsteps of the other games by Fumito Ueda. He got us all emotional over a boy & girl, then a horse, then a griffin. Now he's ready to get us all emotional over a mech. That's just what he does & he does it beautifully.
I wouldn't say Prequel for say but it's feels more like a Sequel to Both Last Guardian and Shadow of The Colossus and it takes place in the Future with Mechs it's a Sequel to Shadow of The Colossus
Cannot be a sequel or prequel associated to Shadow Of The Colossus, Ico, The Last Guardian as genDESIGN is no longer under Sony Interactive Entertainment Thus is new IP within a new setting
I’m sad cause I never got to play any team ico games but I know the premise and lore behind them and how much everyone loves them I want to experience this so bad
1 thing to note is that it's not a Madd up language. It's English which I feel signifies a departure from the other games which almost feel like a spiritual trilogy. There will definitely be some of that DNA but I suspect it'll be the furthest departure yet.(not to mention the future aesthetic)
Maybe the only part of the big robot that you have to save in this waves are the head. So, after that, you have to find another body for your big robot, until the next wave. Because i think this waves are something that happens constantly, because the character do not show any surprise or fear while listening the message, he knows exactly what to do next.
This is so true. The character and the overall radio message seem to be something that is common by now. Something that already happened before...interesting
Maybe the significance of the mech's head detaching refers slightly to the main character. You pointed out that the characters body appears to be robotic, but we never get a good shot of their face. I don't know how, but I feel the camera shots were made to tell a story where there was seemingly no story to share.
That heavy breathing makes one suspect that there is some humanity on the character at the very least. But yeah, we got no confirmation right now, and the shots feel like they deliberately avoid to show much of his head. Some people have pointed that both his and the robot left eye are glowing yellow, enphasizing that relationship between both of them
And another thing, if you hear carefully the robotic voice has a duplicated voice just like dormin, makes me think that all the 3 games has aspects of retrofuturism, ruins of advanced civilizations, trico is a chimera, the colossi has a mix of mechanical and living things sounds, what if, this purple explosion we see is the cataclysm we theorized in the past of the forbidden lands, the thing that devastated all. I still belive Fumito Ueda is trying to told us a bigger story with this games man, all connected, love this universe so much, hope we can see more soon. Sorry for bad English, not my mother language 😅
Maybe the robot colosi are in fact the colossi we know And that catastrophe is what makes the land forbidden Then years after something happen, the robots came to life thanks to the dark energy and became the colossi
My theory is that this could be a sequel, considering weve never seen electronics or tech to that degree before. Potentially a far future where the magic we've seen is being used to feul massive robots? The lights on the robot looks kinda like the turquoise light we see in the wiring on mechanical parts of the towers in TLG
It seems that way, at least it looks like this is the event that took places ages before those 3 games and the answer to why those games are about ancient abandoned places and civilizations
To me I think we’re witnessing the destruction of the modern world by Dormin and that wave of black is their power. Perhaps the game will task the player with finding a way to seal them within robots that over time will become covered in nature, eventually the colossi. Also those rabbits from the Seasons Greetings gave me Watership Down vibes, a group of rabbits fleeing destruction of their home could mirror a character fleeing the destruction brought by Dormin.
The great nomad, I look forward to another 10 years of your videos about this game.
@@teone_rgt yea! Instead of making everything dark, it got brighter until the small character got hit
One thing that Fumito Ueda needs to know is that his games are not liked by everyone, but those who like them really love them.
So… every game ever created??
@@Fabian-ft3qq By Fumito Ueda yes 😂
I feel as an artist he already knows
Does Ueda not know that his games are liked by everyone? I think if he did his games past ICO would be very different
I wish he reads this
The only trailer that gave me goosebumps. Fumito Ueda and his team are able to create an ephemeral world of a lost civilization with a unique atmosphere.
I just found it accidentaly, everybody be talking about Intergalactic Heretic and Witcher 4, modern audience
Thank you! I would agree, there is evidently a connection between all of these games in terms of theme, aesthetics and world but potentially not in a linear way, even thought it's fun to speculate :P
At the end of the day, if you ask me, world building and lore don't "really" matter.
Which I wish could be expanded on like how ICO was
Idk TLG seemed like the same world, just not connected to the other two.
leads to a biblical flood that wipes out most of humanity and sends them to the stone age. like the real life younger dryas theory.
@@FelixtheMaid dark spirits is wildly different to a ladder. 1 and 2s a coicnence. 3 or more is a pattern.
my dad worked on the Shadow of the Colossus remake at Bluepoint, he was the character artist for the first 7 bosses and 3d modled them and did the main character as well.
is ur dad single
If what you say is true then your dad did an amazing job with the remake. Say a big thank you from me for all the work he did on the game!
The main character looks like shit lol
Absolutely GOATED
Tell your dad to add back the turquoise outline to the black tendrils that pop out of the colossi. That has major lore connotations, no joke.
Fumito is master painter of the video game world.
Team Ico has been shut down for over a decade. This is gendesign.
In the first few seconds of the trailer with the loudspeaker, it’s interesting to note that the voice sounds like a female announcer, with male-sounding distortion. To me this is reminiscent of Dormin’s voice.
I have a theory that Dormin was actually an advanced A.I. from an ancient advanced civilization.
I never thought we'd see the day but here we are
My theory is that these impact shock waves are going to be a periodic occurrence that the player must prepare for.
The different picture/trailer robots are totally different, and going to save us in different ways
and maybe that's the mistery? you can run, but you can also try to discover the source of the impacts
17:00 this is a concept art, the objective is to define the mood of the game, the photography, the art direction, not the details itself.
I really love the voice filter on the one doing the countdown.
12:17 Just wanted to point out that the top of the head and the weakspot symbol from SotC share similarities
Never overanalyzing when it comes to team Ico
My first thought after seeing the Robot's face was that it's Malus, but it also kinda resembles Gaius I guess. But based on the body shape I still lean more towards Malus.
Magenta is the color of the illusion of reality, creating a new perception/world view.
Can't wait for this!
Love and blessings!
Definitely the most exciting thing at tga.
(Btw this gesture is quite the same in the concept art/miniature, except the robot's head is missing.)
Beyond excited too though it looks like our patience will be tested.
Making this very curious
The game is a puzzle solver like the rest of uedas games but this one has a strong emphasis on stealth.
Damn this all makes too much sense. :D Care to share your sources?
Puzzle game with a gun. Don't make me laugh
I encountered this theory a few years back, but it appeared to be unfeasible at the time, and even more so now
Shadow of the Colossus wasn’t a puzzle solver.
great video!
Oh and the concept art has since been revealed as a bigger image to what you've shown (That you may have seen already)
the debris in the left corner is, Infact, another mech!
Thank you! :P
The concept art is honestly really intriguing. Idk anymore xD
Oh yeah the last colossus does have a ton of resemblance (visually & music) with this trailer I can absolutely see it...and hear it...
So many questions.
13:11 I could also hear The Last Guardian in this choir
Because Furukawa is doing the OST for this new game as well.
@@istillrememberthosedays Seriously? I thought it might be Kow Otani
@@istillrememberthosedays damn then we gonna go crybabies again, their OST rocks
@@RannagazzogamesFurukawa's name is in the credits on the teaser
13:11 is much closer in resemblance to the musical arrangements from the last guardian than the other two games in ueda's repertoire
Finally a youtube video on the new Ueda game, I'm so excited for this, the Ueda trilogy are some of my favourite games of all time
Maybe shockwaves are a natural thing in earth at this point (or wherever he is)...
When I initially watched the trailer it didn’t have subs for some reason. And I legitimately did not realize they were speaking English hahah

if it is in the same universe that perfect frontflip basically confirms hes a robot imo
The music alone got me hyped for this. An original work of art from Fumito will bless us yet again💎
It seems like they were eluding to an advanced ancient civilization all along.
you know what, i love this.
All these games just brings more questions then answers lol and im here for it 🎉
It can't be a prequel to shadow of the colossus, I think.
Now bringing MY personal lore theories to the table:
I deeply believe these games tell us about cycles, repetitions, of people trying to do what Dormin have done in the past.
Couple more things I noticed:
The robotic voice shares a woman's and man's voice like Dormin.
Great video
If you break down the previous titles you have basically four main points of interest:
1. The environment/ world
2. The protagonist
3. The companion(s)
Thank you! :D
Oh yeah, no doubt that EVERYTHING that you see (and don't see) is absolutely intentional.
Great analysis. I can't wait for this! I need it NOW!!
The language sounded reminiscent of Panzer Dragoon.
I would die for Fumito Ueda to make a Panzer Dragoon game. The aesthetic and lore are pretty similar to his work but uedas art direction is unmatched
Panzer Dragoon is definitely the egg for Team Ico‘s design inspired Chickens in hindsight
Could be in the distant past and playing as an ancient civilisation or far future and we’re android, either way I’m intrigued.
Thanks man! Months?! Nananana, I got you brother 🤣
Subbed and looking forward to more analyses from you
Thank you for your video, it opens so many paths in my head. I hope the game will be dope.
Really cool video, so exited about this game
This is an interesting trailer and I’m glad someone did an analysis of it 😊
Some possible things and aspects of future game:
The robot's head has to be an important part of the gameplay (Considering how much time and drawings they spent on it). It will probably be separate from the body - joystick control is perfectly suitable for flight and rotation. But it is confusing that the control cabin was not shown in the trailer.
We also saw another technologically advanced robot with black matter inside its head in the sketch, and it was a 3D model and not a concept.
The arm that was shown at few arts (not same that was in the trailer), possibly (with an retractable oscillate instrument or even weapon that was shown at the same sketch)
I think the helmet opens up and becomes similar to the one worn by the character on the old 2021 concept (character that have no rifle and Wander's cape)
An AI companion, sometimes giving comments and advice, is a good narrative tool when popup hints in the form of an interface are undesirable.
Otani's name isn't in the credits on this teaser, though the composer from The Last Guardian is listed.
It's the same robot but after it was hit by the blast. You can't tell by the still image that he found the headless robot, maybe we have to put it back together and make it work. I really like the idea of it being a prequel to SOTC, GREAT WORK!
I appreciate it!
The sky shown in the trailer is extremely similar as well to the sky in Shadow of the Colossus, especially during the last colossus's fight...
The head of the robot when flying looks like the helmet of the kid in ICO.
My 2c:
- That doesn't look a nuclear explosion to me for several reasons: a) the "event horizon" looks too much like a straight line. b) Even if the protagonist is on higher ground, there is no sign of the fungus cloud, not even the "pillar" base. c) I would expect a lot more dust in the air following the impact wave while in the first shot you can clearly see the black material rising and even if there seems to be something at the very end, it almost looks like some sort of mist rather than dust, it should obstruct vision a lot more if it was dust in my opinion.
Sorry, English it's not my first language
the music resembles the theme that is played when wander has defeated a boss and is being consumed by the tentacles.
EDIT: Had to pause and go do something. came back and finished watching it. typed this out as i watched.
project robot last guardian SotC and then finally ICO. hes making them backwards! cool
you should look into the Younger Dryas and the whole ancient civ of our world being wiped out around that time.
This sounds to be another biblical flood style game.
TLDR i get NGE vibes among other end of world style and im a fan of the other games so im hyped.
As a Zelda and Kingdom Hearts theorist, it reminds me of Alchemy at 8:16
In BotW and TotK i theorized the tech is a form of Alchemy and sure enough TotK came out and only added confirmation to it. Those colors are a major aspect to alchemy and given how SotC lore is very similar to Zelda in a way (ancient civ lost to time immemorial thats magic but now revealed to possible be giant robots just grown over and built on top of by later cultures after a flood event.)
Purple and black usually have to do with Darkness so i could see tech being the darkness that ended civilization.
Maybe the robots we fight in this are the old cut content like Spider, Phoenix, Devil etc etc
Heck that would also make sense to what the shrine of worship is. A hub to control each robot after it was built then move them to a location before sealing the lands. I love the lore implications this game is gonna have on SotC if this is indeed a prequel. I knew youd mention how the robot looks like the 3rd colossus. In fact the tower is basically the Tower of Babel.
And finally great video, gave me some ideas since ive been stuck for over a month on what i could do next for my channel, make me hyped since i never played last guardian. im gonna go replay sotc tho for sure lol and thanks for gettin my brain goin lol
i wouldnt be surprised if we have to pilot each robot we build to fight a piece of dorman to seal it in that robot.
To me it sounds more like "The End Of Battle" OST, where Wander tries to escape the colossi's weird venom thing getting into him.
“Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic”
I know that The Last Guardian shows there was a technological advanced civilization at some point in this world.
i like the “old science is magic now because people don’t exactly understand how it works” kind of world building, so i’m hoping that this is a prequel to everything. dormin could have been somebody’s (or multiple people’s) consciousness extracted from their body into a cloud of data for example (similar to the gestalts of nier replicant). all the magic in ico could have been advanced weaponry and science used for, what seems to be, a world war 3 or 4 in project robot.
while the people in the last guardian exist in a sort of tribal, traditional society, there exists a mind controlling tower that’s totally scifi, leading me to think that it probably was used to fight something, given how it has its own soldiers and a way to sustain itself. i’d like to think that it was used in a war so long ago people forgot it existed, and is enigmatically referred to as the master of the valley.
thinking about nier replicant, dormin seems to be a gestalt too. dormin talks in different voices, and can split itself into shadow people and even 16 parts that give sentience to rubble (presumably), it makes me think that this is humanity’s way of preserving themselves past the collapse of the world. maybe it is like nier replicant, maybe that’s why shards of dormin wander around peacefully without trying to seek revenge against the ones that split dormin up, maybe that’s why dormin is fair and straightforward in its deal with wander and its ultimate goal is to find a host. maybe the “spirits” of humanity became demented after centuries, and bundled together to form the gestalt that is dormin, a creature with a completely new identity who yearns to simply live again.
i would personally enjoy the idea that these games share the same universe, even thought it would make project robot incredibly bleak as no matter what you do, you won’t save the world or heal it, but the incredibly hopeful thing is that there is life after the apocalypse. while gears of war persists, humanity too rebuilds, and by the time of ico (which is theorized to take place after sotc i think), there are now kingdoms with languages, customs, and magic. and if the games are connected, then maybe this one will explain why people can turn into shadows, and what’s with the horns that tricos, the armors have and that dormin has.
back to this game, i’m hoping that i’ll get to pilot the robot (or actually, maybe, robots) around to punch things or solve puzzles. i think that’s the natural next step after all. instead of climbing colossi, now you are the titan. i think the game might take place in a world on the brink, maybe at the end of a war. the robot looks big and strong, but the protagonist has a gun, so it seems like there are threats of both size; or maybe the protagonist will use robots to traverse a toxic, radiated landscape while hunting with his rifle. i’m just hoping to ride robots
but yeah, that image and the robot in the trailer could totally have been the same. the explosion might have stripped away the plating, revealing the wiring and cords underneath. maybe the character is distraught that his vehicle is broken, and needs a moment to think, or maybe he’s admiring the crater left behind by the bomb. who knows. excited. by the way, you misspelled “design”, just letting you know
Whatever it all means, I am just excited as heck haha.
Same :) I showed my neice a few months ago SotC, and she loved riding Agro, even though the camera was frustrating, but you know xD
@@theKouto Aww, that's so cute. It truly was a magical feeling as a kid (especially a horse crazy one), even with the annoying camera. The fun just overshadow it. I hadn't even thought about that until you mentioned it lol. That's how much I enjoyed myself.
I was hopin to see a video like this! BTW first rule with Japanese: If it look futuristic, is from the past
I believe this would be a prequel to Shadow of the Colossus, The Last Guardian but somehow related to Ico (based on the level of technology) and we might get to explore the Forbidden Land before it was abandoned by its population (the Forbidden Land we find in Shadow of the Colossus)
My craziest theory is that those robots will become somehow the Colossi in a quite distant future, maybe the civilization had advanced technology, something terrible happened and those robots became living beings combined with nature.
The music at the end of the trailer reminds me of “End of The Battle” from the shadow of the colossus ost
I’m just so happy we get to see anything just so that I know they’re working on it. This is like another Bible coming out. Nothing else even mattered to me at TGA except for Okami but Uedas works are deeper.
Amen!
@ Okami is truly special. I would love to play it again for the first time.
The sound you referred as breathing at the start of the trailer is the same that preceeds the start of the song "you were there" in ICO's soundtrack". I have no idea to what that connection could be, if not to symbolize the same ambience where it takes place.
Very good point, could this be just a reference? Otherwise, the beginning of the song partly describes the atmosphere in the trailer, although it is unlikely 😄
The island bathes in the sun's bright rays.
We do have more than one robot tho
that robot laying down with exposed cables might be the robot without armor and beaten up
Looks like the body itself is expendable and the focus is more in the head being able to attach to different robotic bodies? Thats just my guess.
Omg that would be sick. Poor programmers and level designers 🤣
Cannot be a sequel or prequel associated to Shadow Of The Colossus, Ico, The Last Guardian as genDESIGN is no longer under Sony Interactive Entertainment
Thus is new IP within a new setting
@@bamban_garcia5562 good point.
yessir cant wait 👀
Some people have pointed that both his and the robot left eye are glowing yellow, enphasizing that relationship between both of them
The face or mask of the protagonist also resembles the shaman's mask in Shadow of the Colossus
It looks like the main character in the trailer has wheels in his feet...
As soon as I heard the double voice at the beginning I thought about Dormin too
Same thing came to my mind when i heard the song playing.
Maybe the robot colosi are in fact the colossi we know
And that catastrophe is what makes the land forbidden
Then years after something happen, the robots came to life thanks to the dark energy and became the colossi
My theory is that this could be a sequel, considering weve never seen electronics or tech to that degree before. Potentially a far future where the magic we've seen is being used to feul massive robots? The lights on the robot looks kinda like the turquoise light we see in the wiring on mechanical parts of the towers in TLG
I cant wait for this game 😭
The ship is the head of Guardian long after the last guardian
It's probably an exoskeleton suit
12:55 sounds more like the colossus deaths theme for me
It makes sense cus the robot is being destroyed
Why aren't we mentioning that the robots head is basically 1:1 of the final Colossi?
Maybe this game can bring the connection between the last 3 games? 💀😏
The music sounds closer to theme "Demise of the Ritual," from sotc. Also, the shape of the mech's head is very similar to Dormin's...
