You’re correct on Fumito Ueda being very picky when it comes to recruitment. About 500 developers applied for shadow of the colossus, and only 5 were picked. And only 1 out of the 5 met Ueda’s expectations
Yeah it's not surprising. A good amount of these smaller companies with potential limited resources/not wanting to hire like crazy & that want to sustain a certain company culture do have to find the right person to join.
Oh so that's why he only put's out a game once every other console cycle... I love the games but these dev cycles are ridiculous, like why dose no one at Sony step in and go "bruv it's been a literal decade."
The latest italian PSM issue (the 5th, July/August 2024) features a recent Fumito Ueda interview. He doesn't talk about the hypothetical new game, but part of the introduction reads "After leaving Japan Studio, Fumito Ueda founded the independent studio genDESIGN which, in the upcoming months, will present us with something that could rewrite the rules of video games yet again, and make our favorite hobby even more similar to a work of art of inestimable value". While I don't think the 'upcoming months' bit can be taken literally, it still made me very happy. I translated the entire interview as best as I could on my Tumblr, I can link it if anyone is interested!
@@Daelle_snow_ Don't give me hope! x) that's awesome it's good to hear that they are eager to show what they have been cooking and thank you for sharing the info!
@@theKouto Thank you for making a video about it! I can't wait to play another masterpiece made by Ueda, but I also wish that the GenDESIGN team takes as much time as they need
Great video! Your content is actually super underrated! I’m not sure about a “space game” for the next title, but I think it is extremely likely we will see some kind of mech playing into this game. Especially since some of the other teaser images they’ve share definitely have some sort of Mech design present. I don’t remember where I saw this, but apparently Ueda does have interest in making another massive world like what is in Shadow of the Colossus, so I’d love to see something like that.
Really apreciate it! Yeah tbh I really hope that's the case! Personally I would rather like to see something along the lines of SotC with a big world and not a space game yeah. I do wonder if we might see some elements of it, maybe some missions might involve going to space? Godam it Ueda we need moar!
Ween you were talking about the girl and the monster that was the original ending in shadow of the colossus, when you beat all the colossus you become the monster.
I see. Curious thought I just checked and I wonder if they replaced the image from the original post? At least from what I gathered that image comes from this tweet but the image is diferent? Hmm 🤔 x.com/genDESIGN_Inc/status/947485264837984259?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw
I’d love a remake of Ico from Bluepoint Games at some point. High unlikely, but a person can Dream right? I think the game needs more recognition and also updated graphics and allowed more to experience it. It’s not as big as SOTC, but it definitely feels more in line with The Last Guardian which was also praised thus it needs to get ported onto PS5 with a from the ground up remake similar to SOTC 2018 and maybe add some extra features like extra modes or something to make it more worth a 40-50$ price and reason to get remade as it’s a relatively short game compared to Shadow & Guardian. Like a equivalent to those time trial modes from SOTC and some extra areas to explore in the castle and many other possibilities. Ico definitely at some point needs to get a re release of some kind. As long as it’s good and untampered with on its fundamental level and is exactly the way it was from its original release in design but updated for this generation.
There were Epic leaks some time ago that confirmed this will be a jack and the beanstock kind of game with beauty and the beast vibes, enemies are giant human like pigs and youre basically an android piloting a mecha
I thought this would be another fantasy game with the same style as Ico, SOTC, and TLG. Unless if this a space fantasy game and the art style is still the same IDK. 🤷♂️ I honestly thought it would be a more high fantasy type.
@ParkerCS2 Take what I say with a grain of salt. it's all speculation. I do think we might see a departure from the universe created in those 3 games. Even if Fumito Ueda wanted, he might have legal issues since the games are owned by Sony
Is it just me, or does it totally make sense that Fumito Ueda would be a fan of Half-Life 2? I'm not a huge fan of FPS, but Half-Life 2 was on another level.
uh? The question is what happened to this beauty of a man and his team. And I answered it. They opened a new studio, made a deal with epic games, and now are developing a new game. What new game? We have little info, only some clues but let us try to figure out a little more and let me give you some of my thoughts on it. Brother these bastards are dead silent, any pixel you can find is a blessing
Unfortunately no. I'm keeping an eye out on their twitter constantly to see if there is any new information. They mostly STILL post about job openings at the company or retweet some art. I'll do a video update next year ayeeee
There will definitely be no sequel. Nothing at the Tokyo Game Show. There is a tiny chance at Gamescom on October 17th. After all, they have a tradition of showing something on New Year.

Ah the very end the monster becomes the boy from ico, so basically shadow of the colossus is a prequel. Or maybe I’m wrong…
