I just bought this rifle and and a GSG16 last year. Hands down the quality of this rifle is better. Better steel magazines, less plastic parts to deal with that will ultimately strip out after so many cleanings. Only thing better about the GSG is the bolt hold open feature. Even though they suggest removing that feature from the bolt to stop the feeding issues with it. 22’s a 22’s a 22 otherwise.
Great review sir. I'm shopping around for one as we speak. couple things, (1) as for the grip irritation issue, a piece of felt on 2 sided tape should provide a fix and (2) I just dropped in an MCARBO trigger spring kit on my 64F, the difference is day and night. thank u sir.
You were totally the reason i bought this rifle here in montana as my little plinker/backpacking rifle and honest the really reason i was not at all disappointed or anything when i had my failure to feed issues with my magazine i had like 3 in think in the first 5 full magazines i dumped out of it ever since shes been running smooth cant wait to add all the magpul components i have for it although must ask what kind of flash hider/muzzle break are you using saw it wasnt rhe standard thread cap that comes with it anymore
I'm glad I could help. The muzzle device is a S&J Hardware Micro Linear Compensator. I don't know if you can get that specific model and brand in the US. But honestly, it doesn't really do much, linear compensators are not worth it on the rifle. If you're in Montana, you should really look at getting a suppressor for it. I think it would fit the rifle really well. That's what I would do if they were legal in Canada.
@Bats888 well ahead of you on that one lol got a fat 12 inch can that I'm hoping to run here soon I bought the thing for 299.99 at shiptons no tax and it was an absolute steal I just want to be able to have something small that looks nice like a linear comp on the barrel to give it some pizzaz but I will say for a Canadian made "precision" 22 rifle I absolute love it and honestly glad I followed this channel I have a nice ass houge grip on mine and it feels soooooo much better
Well I had nothing but jams misfires even with only 2 in the magazine. Being returned to the retailer. Really would have liked a replacement to try but they probably think its me. I have a 64 f and it has been great.
Nice video overall. My only issue was with the accuracy testing. You shot too fast and used bulk ammo. If you want to really see closer to the gun's mechanical accuracy, you should rest the rifle with better support, shoot slower, and use a higher quality load of ammunition. I believe the gun is capable of sub 2 moa accuracy, maybe sub 1.5 moa.
I bought one and i had to send it back, would not cycle with more than 12 rounds in the mag. Hopefully they can fix it, i tried 3 different types of ammo and 2 different mags and nothing made a difference 😊
I can only put 13-14 rounds in the 20 round mag. Anything after that just jams. Pretty lame. Also. You should do a break down and cleaning video, as there are no videos for this newer rifle
The mag needs breaking in. I could only load 15 rounds for a bit. I would suggest trying to load 12-15 until it feeds properly and then keep increasing until it feeds properly. When you take the stock off (two bottom screws), it's exactly like any other Savage 64. So you should be able to find cleaning instructions.
Is it possible for you to do a disassembly and Assembly video in this gun ?I just got one but can't really find any disassembly video for cleaning yet. The price and the look is pretty good for this gun.
I don't have it anymore, so I can't. But Th Hunting Gear Guy did a teardown on the Savage 64. Once the stock is off, its just a normal Savage 64, so that video will work.
Every rifle I have ever owned had a preferred brand and grain ammo. My 22s usually require 10 different brands and grain weights in order tovfind maximum efficient round. I never buy Winchester white box? Unless realy cheap and as trade material.
Multiple issues out of the box in the first 20 rounds. Gun jammed several times Several misfires Slide stuck and won’t become unstuck Emailed savage and have yet to hear back 4 days later.
It was actually designed in Canada. Lakefield was bought by Savage in like 95ish. I had an old wooden one but same action. It gets dirty but its 22lr. I dislike the mag. Sticking down. No flush option. Thats just me. More of a bench or hunting thing. Causes unnecessary wear and its cumbersome.
You'd need to loop it through the slots in the stock. It's not the exact same, but this should give you and idea; google "universal Vickers sling instruction"
You don't need to completely disassemble to clean. Just the two screws at the bottom, lock the bolt back, and you can clean what is needed. A deep clean would be bit more involved, you have more screws and you have to take off the barrel to take out the bolt. The gun is mostly just designed for a light cleaning every once in a while.
Potentially. It is interesting, but it depends on the price. If it comes in at over 650, it's probably not worth it. We can get the non SBR versions for under 500.
You said its not a match rifle yet there are guys shooting matches with them. Maybe if you found the ammo ot likes and a better scope you would surprise yourself at how accurate this little gun can be. I mean the word precision is in the name and i have found it to be very accurate and i have even ran it a couple times in local matches both indoor and outdoor. While i didnt win the matches the rifle was very competitive out to 100 yards and even better between 35 to 75 yards. To say its not a match rifle isnt correct any magazine fed rifle can be used for a match ,just some may work better then others. By saying its not a match rifle may discourage someone on a tight budget from purchasing this gun and trying to shoot a match.
I do agree with your statement. I have a Savage Model 64 21 in bbl and poly stock. Ran thousands and thousands of rounds through it. Smacking cans, clays and whatever all day at a 100 yrds with it and having fun. Using a Sig Romeo for sights. Now I'm having issues with the firearm. Light strikes, worn out firing pin. I clean it after I use the firearm (yes, I'm very strict on cleaning stuff that I buy). Cause I've used it so much it outlive it's parts. Needed parts but so hard to find. I love the firearm so much because it can drill targets and is a .22 cal. I stopped by at a gun store yesterday and saw the bull bbl Savage 64 (same as on this video) and bought me one, no questions asked. bought it and ran away with it. If you're thinking of buying this firearm. You will never be disappointed. Good price + a bull bbl.
Ah OK thank you been trying to upgrade the stock. Don't really like the promag one saw ur video and they look the same but your right who knows if they sell just the stock
Is there any concern with dry firing this rifle? Noticed the bolt doesn't lock after firing the last round in the mag so can definitely see that happening quite a bit.
In my opinion, this is a target rifle, not a tactical rifle. If you want to just slap rounds down range without any technique, get 10/22, or a savage 64S. This rifle is for precision target shooting. Hence the name.
I saw a police report where a man taught his 13 year old daughter to shoot a 22 well. She decided to start killing people and took down several people, including a cop that knew where she was and didn't expose himself for more than 2 seconds, either the little girl or the cheap 22 were terribly tactical
That rifle is garbage 100% bought one at Academy they’ll send it back to savage it will jam the action all the way back and then you have to take it down and back off one of the trigger screws to losing the action it jammed with cci, federal, and subsonic, it’s nothing but pure junk for 20 dollars more you can buy a Ruger 1022
The foregrip is the Magpul MVG and the rear grip just has hockey tape.
I'm not answering this again.
Just purchased this as my first ever rifle, thank you for the realisitic and valuable review
Gives an update please
Putting hockey tape is the most Canadian rifle upgrade I’ve ever heard 😅 awesome
Great review! Super helpful, thank you!

Your hockey tape fix looks good too. "2 tone"

I miss the days when these rifles were $100. Even my gsg15 isn't as much fun as the savage 64. Only thing I don't like about it is the mag release.
Its a very Canadian thing to do (use hockey tape) lol. Great review
Voice to shooting volume needs to be adjusted please.(at least in some spots)*future video note. 😬😬🤝

@bats8888 I have another rifle you should review if it's at all possible it's the savage apex hunter XP in 30-06
30-06 is not really my wheel house, but I think the .223 version could be interesting. I want to review a few different .223/7.62x39 bolt actions.
Would love to see it regardless man love the way you break things down
Well I had nothing but jams misfires even with only 2 in the magazine. Being returned to the retailer. Really would have liked a replacement to try but they probably think its me. I have a 64 f and it has been great.
I “won’t start off with the one bad thing about this rifle”! Commences to start out with the one bad thing😂

I shot about 50 rounds through mine before the plastic piece behind the bolt broke causing the bolt to stay stuck open.
Did you fix it?
I bought one and i had to send it back, would not cycle with more than 12 rounds in the mag. Hopefully they can fix it, i tried 3 different types of ammo and 2 different mags and nothing made a difference 😊
That sucks, I hope they can fix it for you.
I had the same problem. I can fit about 13 rounds.
I just bought a couple 10 round mags and stick with those
It's not the gun it's the mag spring.
@@marcperrone8355 you know how to fix that?
I sanded the feed ramp on the 20 round mag so it's bare metal like on the 10 round magazines and when the gun is clean it pretty much runs every mag.
I can only put 13-14 rounds in the 20 round mag. Anything after that just jams. Pretty lame.

Q Tip and solvent
I would like to get a few 20 round magazines, in the states, I found them in Canada, but they won't sale them here, anyone know where I can get some?

Nice video! What magazine are you using?
They are 20 round Savage 64 magazines. One comes with the gun.
Mine always fail fire everytime. Its a brand new, only had like 100 rounds with
Every gun has 500rd break in period for guns. For .22lr i'd go about thousands before complaining
My bolt broke in first mag.
How can I install a sling on it? I can use QD mounts on the M-Lok slots up front, but how do I attach it to the butt of the stock?
You'd need to loop it through the slots in the stock. It's not the exact same, but this should give you and idea; google "universal Vickers sling instruction"
@bats8888 thank you for the speedy reply 🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼
My GSG16 was great. Except cleaning. That was a PITA. How is this one for cleaning?
You don't need to completely disassemble to clean. Just the two screws at the bottom, lock the bolt back, and you can clean what is needed. A deep clean would be bit more involved, you have more screws and you have to take off the barrel to take out the bolt.

@@bats8888have you cleaned the barrel yet?
How did you get that colour on your body did they have diffrent colours in stock or something ??
Hockey tape. I just wrapped it around the grip and part of the stock.
Hi, have you run into the issue about the rubber/plastic end cap behind the bolt? Thanks
I didn't have any issues with the rifle while I had it.
Savage 64 platform has the benefit of being made in Canada while being an almost 60 YO design
Also MFW ... 1000 rounds of 22 LR is $150 ...
any chance of you checking out the new Mauser M15 SBR?
Potentially. It is interesting, but it depends on the price. If it comes in at over 650, it's probably not worth it. We can get the non SBR versions for under 500.
What foregrip are you using?
Magpul MVG
Is this restricted in Canada
Where did you get the grip fir it I just purchased one
The foregrip? It's just a Magpul MVG, you can find it at any gun store or online.
WHY would you use Win white box to test for accuracy ???!!!
foregrip and grip ?
What ammo do you find cycles the best?
I ram winchester white box, Blazer, and Federal auto match. I had no problems with any of it. Federal does seem better manufactured though.
Could you add link for the scope?
Sorry, UA-cam rules don't allow links to firearm accessories
I see what you mean. If it says precision it should be precision. I don’t care if it is a cheap price gun.

Will normal savage 64 mags fit?
Yes.
@@bats8888 thanks for the response
I'm from South Mississippi and ain't nobody heard a no hockey tape at the Walmart!
Black electrical tape, as it's known in the rest of the world!
Hockey tape and electric tape are very different. Hockey tap is closer to skateboard tape.
What scope is it
Visionking 1.25-5x
What grip is that?
Magpul MVG
Does that stock fit the 64f?
Idk. But I don't know where you'd find just the stock. The stock comes with the gun, I don't think it's sold separately.

According to the internet, the Savage 64 is safe to dry fire.

It's from Amazon, Visionking 1.25-5x scope.
