Thanks for the shout out Buffalo, I had two people so far say that you sent them. That Savage is a good inexpensive little plinker, I actually bought it for my daughter when she was ten years old. Mine has a Simmons magnum 22 scope on it and I think I paid $22 for it back when I bought the rifle
I'm running a 28$ Barska (3-9X32) Duplex Reticle and couldn't be happier with it for what I do which is usually 150 yards or less. If I move any further I'm gonna have to get something with mil dots.
Thank you! I am glad to have a place where I can keep my skills sharp. I keep an open mind and try to learn new things to help me. You guys in the comments have taught me a lot over the years.
That poor old girl! I hope when she closes her eyes, she’ll know that she was finally loved and taken care of. Good on you brother! That’s incredible shooting for a budget rifle and budget scope. What shooting “experts” that chime in and have criticism for, have to realize is that you are shooting a target the size of an eyeball, so are fractions or 1/16 of inches REALLY something to be snarky on?! Great video as always 😁👍🏽
I've got an elderly dog with a large growth in her lungs. Been giving her CBD for dogs, and it's at least made her feel better. She sleeps longer and has more energy than before the CBD.
A friend has a little dog the vet said wouldn't live no more than 90 days. Its now close to 2 years later and doing fine cause she gives it cbd oil . Not sure what brand
I will have to look into that. I'd like to make her as comfortable as possible. She has real good days and then she has days where I can just tell she's hurting.
@@buffalosoutdoors AT CBDMD's website, the smallest dose, in treat form, is 150mg. The package says up to 25lb dogs. The hard treats are pretty hard, my 15 year old Pit Bull can crunch them pretty well. They have soft treats as well.
Looking at the zoomed in shots, I was thinking that the Savage was throwing them everywhere, then you went and got the target. I didn't realize the targets were the size of a quarter! That's some good shooting🙏☺
Thanks for posting and thanks for putting your positive energy into a subject where people can sit back and take anonymous "pot shots" at you, Sorry about that, but your heart is clearly in the right spot.
The difference in $1,500 dollar 22s and $100 dollar ones is not that much different. You just figure that out after you buy a $1500 dollar one. Low cost models just have stiff triggers and are harder to shoot. Low cost scopes don’t always go back to zero sometimes either; but some will. You pay a lot of money for one that has all the bells and whistles. The $100 one is sure not the one for shooing target matches at long range. But, never underestimate any in the right hands of someone that knows how to shoot. They don’t need a hair trigger or fancy scope. You know practice shooting a 22 rifle off hand with a heavy trigger pull and a 16 power scope made me a better off hand shooter. Great video do some more like this one. Like your new puppy dog too.
Went on a deer drive one time with a guy packing a bolt action mossberg 20ga shooting 2 3/4" Win slugs barrel hand cut off at 22" crowned with a chainsaw round file..brazed on rifle sights! I watched him drop a Buck at 125yrds that eased between us drivers and trotted through a field...2 weeks later he won $200 at a turkey shot with it knocking a clay pigeon off a post at 100yrds off hand ...technology can't always top talent..it helps but skill is priceless!
I loved my savage 64 to death. Got too picky and sold it, but I miss it dearly. Great, accurate knock about 22. Never worried about scratching the krylon "cerekote"

I have not a clue as to who would want to argue about your shooting or how you shoot. They have not watched very many of your videos. Your skill with most firearms amazes me. I am sure other viewers feel the same. Good for you for taking care of the dog.
Seems like most of mine fall right in the 20 range. I think i got 18 this year. Not bad for only going out on a couple occasions but it was a 1500 dollar 22 Winchester lever of my grandfathers I think he gave 160 for it new. What a rare gun to have. Bought the 62f so I could retire it. Other then to keep it warm from time to time.
Thanks for what I call the real facts of shooting so called budget guns! A lot of them surprise the hell out of me on just how accurate they are!!! Keep up the good work!!

Savage 64 aka Lakefield 64 akaCooey 64. A great Canadian gun, made since 1964! Gertie's a cutie. I can't believe that people would just abandon a dog like that.
Excellent shooting, and a good explanation. Every "cheap" rimfire plinker I have is a little different, ammo preference, trigger and handling characteristics, practice is key.
Good video, working on a savage 64 for a buddy. Was more curious about the rifle than anything that’s why I clicked your video. My comment is about the dog. Your a great guy giving that ole pup a good home to spend its days versus the less humane/caring way it’s being treated
You just earned a new subscriber. Probably the best firearm-related video I've ever seen on here, and it's the only one I've seen from you. Keep up the good work, and thank you!
Do not know if you attended college or got a degree. Do not know if you ever meant to be a scientist. But your videos are science and are among the best on the internet. Thank you!
Love this old Canadian work horse made in Lakefield Ontario. It's often a Canadians first rifle, as you can find them for just under $200 CAD. And just about every store that sells firearms up here sells the Savage 64. There aren't many Canadian made firearms that are in affordable price ranges for the average person. But this old Cooey design from 1964 is still relevant today due to it's price range.
Thanks for review. I agree that you show all the groups, instead of just picking out the good ones and hiding the bad ones, so to give a complete idea of the accuracy.
I just discovered your videos today, and I really like what I've seen so far. I really like how you show your "real world" groups! And I really liked how you included the chronograph when you were testing ammunition through the CZ. Keep up the good work!
I'm a big fan of savage since buying my Savage 93 17HMR and discovering that I can drive tacks at 50 yards and when I started getting the urge to buy a new 22LR I was think about the model 64. I'm so glad you did this quick accuracy test to help me make a decision. I see nothing wrong with the groups you shot, nice job sir!
Savage 93 hnr great late season squirrel rifle savage 64 is a great fall squirel rifle where I'm at 50 yards is before the leaves are gone, then I break out the HMR Both are great for the price, and the savage outshoots the 10/22 for half the price
This was the first gun I ever got, got it from my dad when I was 12 or so and I still have it. To this day I love plinking with it. Lots of good memories of having a SORE thumb from loading that little 10 round mag ALL DAY XD. I love how accurate this gun is for how cheap it is.
As far as I'm concerned, you can take your time while shooting, I enjoy watching it. Like the information too and, that you will shoot less expensive rifles.
Hey Buffalo, I just found your channel today, and this video was the one that made me subscribe. I'm up in Canada, and have already taken the course & testing for my firearms permit, just awaiting it to be processed, and cant wait to get some range time in the near future! Love the content and the simple and easy to understand context of the videos, and how easy you make things to understand even to people who may not be as experienced or knowledgeable. Also, just wanted to say a big load of respect and thanks for taking in Gertie. What a shame for a pup to have been someone's pet and companion for so long, only to be left on a highway-side as her sun begins to set. I'm glad you found her/she found you, and thanks for giving her somewhere where she can enjoy to spend whatever time she has left with people who will take care of her. Youre good people. Looking forward to going thru a bunch of your library of videos, and a bunch of new videos in the future! All the best from your neighbours to the North, stay well and stay safe!
That's a little better than my cheap model 64. As you stated for a cheap plinker it does great. Mine got me a few squirrels this fall and Margaret fried them up nicely with gravy oh yeah. Thanks for showing another budget 22 so people can see they work pretty good.🇺🇸🇺🇸👍
I don't take many shots on small game out past 25 or 30 yards anyway so it's plenty accurate and has been super reliable. They are very good rifles for the money! Wait....did you just say squirrel and gravy! You're talking my kinda eatin right there! Thanks Scott!
Thanks, Buffalo. Very good video on a very good topic. I would imagine there are a lot more people with Savage Model 64 type rifles than CZ 457 MTR rifles, and a lot more people using bulk ammo than Eley Tenex. Good advice on trying different ammo! .22s are notoriously picky about ammo.
I have a Marlin 795, I bought for a little over 100 a couple of yrs ago ( I think they're running about 180 now) but it was amazingly accurate once I took the cheap scope that came with it off. Been thinking about picking up a Savage I saw the other day for my wife so thanks for the vid.
Yea, I have tested out several types of ammunition. Federal bulk round was ok. And CCI standard.22 always shot with zero problems. One particular round that constantly failed is Remington thunder bolts, and gummed up every where possible. Yea, thunder bolts I saved for revolver shooting. Also a few magazine I purchased needed modifications on feed ramp, and loading stop, I used a Dremel tool for that and all work perfect.
Buffalo you are the only gun channel my wife will watch, normally she leaves the room when gun stuff comes on! I have a 64 I bought this spring on sale and I found if you practice with it. It makes a great squirrel gun and plinker. The trigger takes some getting used to. Keep up the great content!
Good stuff, man! A takedown 64 just showed up at my local shot. I think I now need to pick it up. And, good on you with Gerty. You are scoring good karma points.
This is going to be really good, I feel like you did a good job with that little light gun with the hard trigger pull, yeah it seems like I almost always pull the last shot
Good video, thanks. This gun was originally invented by cooey firearms of Canada, taken over by Winchester in the sixties, called the win mod 64, then it went to mossberg as their mod 64, then by savage and also by Marlin as as their mod 64. All identical actions and barrels but different stocking and furniture. I own six or seven but have only shot one expensively., my first one a win mod 64 which was my partridge gun for yeas. Best I can do is one inch groups at 25 yds, which is great for birds you shoot at under ten yards. Thanks .
I think that is good shooting Buffalo but I am more impressed with your story of Gertie. That tells me your heart is as big as the outdoors. Thanks for a great, informative video.
Hey Buffalo, I like the honesty in your videos. I agree with your comment concerning different types of ammunition as my Henry 22 favors Aquila over CCI. Like most people to have the ability to purchase 300 and 400 dollar 22 rifles is not easy, thus, those "budget 22,s" become the choice for us who like to small game hunt and plink with a 22. In reality, that Savage 64 is a pretty accurate and reliable option for filling the stew pot. Thanks again for a great informative review and video. Look forward to seeing Gurdy again.
Hey man, I am a welder and love shooting also. I think your vids are great, keep up the good work. I like how truthful you are about shooting. Well done.
Buffalo - A really great vid of shooting an out of the box 'cheap' rifle. Really honest and a good review of this rifle. I have one that's one of my fav rifles. This next paragraph is copied out of my reply to a Q Wayy below from a couple weeks ago, I just wanted to put the info 'up front' since these rifles are under-rated when compared to much more expensive rifles. " You can get a light sear spring from MCarbo for about $15 and replace the t-return spring with about 1/3 of a clik-pen spring stretched to fit. Then polish the sear w/o changing the angle at the point, then polish everything that 'rubs' in the action. I've got mine down to about 2#. BTW, that Rem ammo isn't 'really' target ammo. Try some SK+ or even Fed Champion 40g SV and then you can shoot around 3/4" regularly. And Terry - the Marlin shot better than the 10/22 'cause it's a better rifle. The Ruger isn't that good. Marlin 60 or 795 etc are wayyy better and more accurate -and cost LESS ! "
I picked one of these up today in camo with the fat barrel. It’s my first .22 and I did it on a whim then came to UA-cam to see if I’d made a mistake but it seems that I got a good one. I appreciate the insight, great vid! Thanks!
I have been shooting the Model 64 for years, well before Savage bought the factory and have owned a few of them. I only currently own a Cooey Winchester 64B but every Savage 64F that I have owned works just fine once you tear them completely apart and clean all the metal shavings out of the reciever and recoil spring. Oh, the packing oil has to go as well. You don't want that cooked into your bolt!!
You are right, bad triggers often make cheap guns hard to shoot well. It would be interesting to see a comparison between a cheap stock rifle and the same gun with an aftermarket or modified trigger to quantify the difference in accuracy. I have an H&R Sportster that came with an 8 lb trigger that I worked down to 4 lb. This made my groups quite a bit tighter and made the gun much more enjoyable to shoot.
How did you work down the trigger weight? I just got a H&r pardner in 30-30 a few months ago (my first gun) and it has a heavy trigger weight that I’d like to get down
@@andyvaughan1019 I followed a tutorial I found on UA-cam. I'm afraid I forget the channel. It's a long video by a man who owns several of these H&R rifles. You will need to do some careful filing and polishing on the hammer notch and the trigger sear.
Great video! I found throughout the last 10 years that most .22s will shoot around 1/2inch at 50 but only with ammo it likes. I have a bergera BMR that I’m still trying to find that ammo and it’s constantly around .7- 1inch at 50 . So this is a very realistic video
not bad groups for $100 rifle. I remember people saying the Mossberg 702 plinkster out of the box is a pretty good rifle. I have gotten good results out of the older Marlin 60's with the microgroove barrels. Sometimes you can get those from $100 and up used, but usually need cleaning and tuning.
I have this gun, shoots fine I never got picky but it helped take care of a few problem fox I had. My complaint about the gun is the bolt keeps chewing up the mags.
I bought a $250 Savage 22LR a couple of months ago and put a $60 scope on it and shoot cheap Remington ammo and my result are significantly better. I love that gun.
I have a very old Winchester Model 60 that I love. Many think I'm dumb for staying with a single-shot, but they don't know the rifle. My only disappointment with shooting it is the fact that I'm no longer able to hold it steady enough to utilize its inherent accuracy. It shoots well with practically all ammo.
I really appreciate your downhome real world honest reviews. I guess I never thought of a .22 as a "target" round, unless you bought an expensive rifle set up for target shooting. A .22 is a varmint gun, you throw it up quick to the shoulder for fast moving squirrels, rabbits, raccoons and such at relatively short range. My old Browning SA is almost as old as I am and it is still a fantastic rifle. My J.C. Higgins 31 is older than I am and it is still very accurate. If a .22 rifle is accurate enough to hit rabbit size game at 50 yards it is accurate enough for hunting.
We are going to make her as comfortable and happy as possible. She's such a great little dog. I can't imagine why someone would abandon such an old dog. I couldn't bear to send her to the shelter after the vet told us she didn't have long. Hopefully he is wrong.

Gertie is adorable. Proud of you for taking her in.
Look at you! Getting out there and having some fun. Good for you!
Thanks man! I appreciate ya!
I’ve been looking into this gun for a couple months but I never knew how good it was because of the price.
It's also has the simplest yet toughest internal components and very easy to dismantle. No loose springs. It's extremely well engineered.
How can you not enjoy a Buffalo video? Another good one!
Thank you for taking Gertie in, awesome
For the kindness you showed that dog. May all that is considered good in the universe be yours.
Gertie.... perfect... you are a good man buffalo...
Thank you kindly!
Gerdy!! Good folks adopting that old dog. She looks happy.
Keep this series going, great content and information. If you have one, I would like to see a Marlin model 60. Thanks for keeping it real.
I do have one! Those are great rifles. I don't have a scope on it so it would be iron sights. Not apples to apples but still fun to try.
Bless you, your family, and Gertie. Much respect.
Thank you Mark! Bless you and yours!
Nice zoom in on the targets. I know the editing isn’t the easiest thing to do.
It takes extra time but I like it once I get it done. Thanks for noticing the extra work!
I would love to see you do a cheap rifle with the really good target ammo and see the outcome. Great video Buffalo.
God Bless you man for taking in that dog. Glad to see a dog getting a family in its twilight!
We are going to make her as comfortable and happy as possible. She's such a great little dog. I can't imagine why someone would abandon such an old dog. I couldn't bear to send her to the shelter after the vet told us she didn't have long. Hopefully he is wrong.
I was considering picking one up. That accuracy is definitely good enough for small game. Thanks for the video!
