I think it is finally time for Lee to make first contact with Aliens, as in Captain meets Rick Graham.
i bet NASA will be there
Rick graham would be great!
That would be incredible!
I was thinking the same, Rick is'nt from this world
I hope he is doing extremely well!
Captain meets Rick Graham!
I'd love that so much.
That'd be awesome.
That would be f*ckin epic!
People in here saying Andy James has no soul or feeling in his playing should listen to his songs instead of judging his playing from this interview
Agreed, he is incredible. In terms of melodic playing, I’ve got him on a pedestal along with Satriani
man andy james has soooooo much feeling in his playing its amazing and awesome
Yeah
try listening to jeff loomis, now there is a man with no heart or soul, his solo album is time I will never get back again,
Andy James is a perfectionist that comes through his playing that doesn’t mean he has no soul . It means he adds the right amount of vibrato and has perfect alternate picking that not many players have.. I personally love it . It’s refreshing listening to him and satisfying to watch.
So grateful to Andy James. God knows how many songs I've learnt from his Lick Library tutorials. Amazing player and tutor
Great seeing Andy on here. Spent a good amount of time playing guitar with him at college & even then when we were 16-17, he was such a good player. We would always trade Malmsteen & Petrucci licks playing in the hallways of the music block. If your reading mate, hope you are good!
Oh shit that’s so cool. Was he AMAZING at 16-17? Or has he improved drastically since then? I’m always interested as to how these guys developed their playing throughout the years.
Lee's interview style...asks question...interrupts and starts talking about something completely different. Love it, keep em coming!
Epic shred fest at the end! 🤘🤘🤘
I can't believe I actually watched this whole thing with as short as my attention span is lmao. Andy James is a damn icon
thats a good point Andy made is that he dives straight into the deep end and clean up. If I remember correctly, Shawn Lane also had the same philosophy. The reason why that is true is because of the picking dynamics. At a very fast paced picking, there is far less time for string hopping so you need to develop your own way of solving those string changes as efficiently as possible. Troy Grady does such a good job of explaining all this.
Pick slanting.
The Captain meets Rick Graham!
YES!!! Andy James is one of my favorite guitar players, and I'm glad you got him on your channel!
Captain meets Rick Graham would be very cool! Also Captain meets Josh Middleton, please make it happen!
kipris1993 second that!
YES I love Josh and his stuff in Sylosis
Great to get an insight into the history of Andy James. Goes without question, a jaw-droppingly awesome guitar player. Spent the majority of the video staring at the Kiesel. ;)
Yoni Kup he wasn't devaluing himself 😐
That guitar is beautiful
What a great Sunday. I have just opened a beer and saw this video. Great day indeed. Cheers.
Andy James is one of my favourite guitarists; awesome playing and always very melodic.
The Captain meets Joe Satriani would be an epic video.
I've loved Andy for such a long time, such an inspiration. Seeing him on Anderton's is such a cool thing to watch. I love seeing all my favorite guitar tv guys getting together. IT HAS BEGUN!!! :)
I think Andy is one of the best players in the world.truly amazing
Love andy james. Few people make metal instrumentals sound that good.
Nice interview!Enjoy Andy tremendously!!
Finally!!!!!!!! You guys have been teasing this for a month on Instagram...
Love Andy..... Such a chill mate... Learned plenty from this guy... Great chops..
I’m Glad I came across this video. Andy James has been an amazing inspiration to me for so long!
Thanks for this interview with super-shredder Andy, one of the all-time best!
Awesome, thanks, I'm a big Andy fan!!
Love Andy's albums. Exit through Ashes :-) Beautiful
I've been waiting for this! Thanks capt!
Grinned ear to ear this entire interview. Awesome!
I've been watching a LOT of Andy James, and I'm not even a metal guy. There's something about him that I really appreciate.
This was a great interview. It is so refreshing to hear positive comments about EMG pickups these days. Andy said it right, where he basically said if you are a terrible player, the EMG's will shine a bright spotlight on your deficiencies. I am also a 57/66 player, and let me tell you, EMG's make you play more cleanly and with better technique, because if you play sloppy, that is what you will hear. I love passive pickups too - Dimarzio, Seymour Duncan, PRS HFS, etc. - but the clarity and power in an active EMG is perfect for any player, if they would just give them a real chance.
How about the dynamics though?
Love it already
Fantastic vid, Andy James really just tells it like it is and it’s so easy to relate to his views.
Yeeees, I was waiting a long time for this one! Andy has been one of my biggest influences!
What started as a simple download of the instagram app brought me to Andy James and Angel Vivaldi, both of these guys are consistently evolving in their playing. Flawless tone and impeccable clarity in their notes, almost gave up on that style of music if it wasn’t for these two! Shred on!!!!!
Well done Andertons, thank you for this video!
Great to Andy James again, looking good and super relaxed
What a player he is. Simply amazing and properly down to earth......get him in a mega metal band!!!
Good job andertons. Perfect video. Good questions. Good playing. And great that josh played.
Great vid. Very humble dude and phenomenal shredder, enjoying these captain meets vids.
Let's get the acoustic god Tommy Emmanuel on here!
Have a Starfire and Sherwood strat still, its my 1st setup, now on Krank amps and BC Rich guitars, good to know guys like this also started like I did! Andy, thanks for the videos, awesome!
As a guitar player, this is definitely a reminder of how untalented I am at guitar :D
Talent and technique are not mutually exclusive
He didn't get like that overnight. Work at it. You can do it, dude!
He isn't talented...he is mechanically proficient. Talent creates something. This guy is as talented as an oscillating fan.
Talent is a myth, its passion and hard work.
Well, I'd say talent is a thing...it's just not an innate quality one is born with. We develop talent if we work and learn, but it's also true that, for example, physical and mental things we cannot control do play a part.
Andy James is an absolute legend of a guitar player!
Met him in person and had a vip experience at his show. What an incredible person he is!
Andy James seems like such a good guy and real down to earth!
I'm sorry to say I have no idea who Andy James is, but this video was fun to watch and quite enlightening! 😊
Captain meets Plini, Aaron Marshall, Rick graham, or Jason Richardson.
Please make Plini happen
just, just can't wait anymore !!!
Boy have I been waiting for this
It’s been years since I heard Andy for the first time and he STILL astounds me with his almost computerized-level of clean playing
Evertune is cool.
I have heard of it but never knew how it really worked. Amazing piece of engineering, agree with Lee.
He is really a good guitar player with all the technical stuff and the combination of Andy and kiesel guitars seems quite good
The Captain meets Teemu Mäntysaari would be also awesome. But I would be happy with Rick as well :)
Clicked the like button even before watching lol. Andy is a monster player! 🤘
awesome thanks...
This video is awesome. Makes me still want to make a living with guitar. 🤘❤
Such an awesome dude. Met him a few times. Lets just say he uses the best pick ever! Dunlop Andy James Flow Pick still awaiting their arrival
Andy James Is my Fav guitarist /// love ya
I went from in-active pickup's/ humbuckers ,for a schecter hellraiser c-1/FRS ,emg 85 in the bridge and a sustainiac in the neck , w/ gain knob and a switch (sustainiac) for harmonic, normal, and just the driver ,so two 9v as wel, love you guys, hello from the U.S.A., Rochester, NY.
Amazing guitarist....fantastic melodic tracks which kick arse. He’s twice as awesome now I know that he was in Brighton and bought his guitar in the backstreets. Kindred spirits! (Although I somehow ended up being crap at guitar lol)
Wow grew up in Portsmouth!! Thats where I live
Great stuff. I agree with all the talk about EMG hate. I have guitars with EMG's in and guitars with passives and I love them all for different reasons. It's either misguided snobbery or ignorance.
Right tool for the right job. Emg’s in a bass....👌
I had a blast hanging out with Andy at the Petrucci guitar universe camp last year. He was a lot of fun and such an easy going guy!
Did everyone notice the Andy James Guitar Academy logo on the chalkboard
at the top left? That's sweet :D
10:06 actually Captain, you can hear if it is Guthrie, Yngwie, Vai or Satch, and I can probably detect a Knopfler and Michael Romeo, in fact, Andy James is recognisable enoufh
Mark Knopfler is probably the most recognisable out of all those names mentioned, shame that he’s often forgotten about really.
you're missing the very obvious Gilbert influence. to be honest, it's the one that sticks out most to me.
EVH
Chris Poland is another instantly recognisable player I would say
marty friedman also very easy to recognise...
AJ my fave guitarist and sorta mates with - still the best for me!
Love the plectrum change !!!!
Wow, he does NOT sound like I imagined he would. :D Andy's a metal shredding maniac and yet his voice is so smooth and calm. I love the contrast.
Now he's with FFDP. incredible player!
Now I got to try those Andy James picks!
Joss at the 9 min mark.... huge thumbs up!
still got that song - Free Fall and loved it lmao god it was that long ago
In my opinion he is the greatest guitarist of my generation. And definitely just on the the greatest to grace the instrument.
i never laughed that much during a Captain meets, funny dude!
Captain needs to meet RG
he needs to meet a couple of letters ?
I love Andy, he is just such a great guy whom I would love to hang out with. He always seems so down to earth and really "human". I think you guys did an amazing job interviewing him and also giving him exposure, which I'm sure he appreciates. Thanks for this great interview!
By the way, about 45:12, you guys do stock Kemper! Andy doesn't use the DV Mark, he uses the Kemper Profiler. He didn't use it here cause if he had wanted to take his Kemper, he would have had to unplug it from his recording setup, and he's currently recording an album so unplugging everything would be annoying..
Captain meets MATEUS ASATO!!!!!
Alexandre Henrique yes yes yes I wish this would happen
Alexandre Henrique hell yeah
Pra ter shimmer pra cacete? To de boas...
Great player!
BEEN WAITING FOR THIS
incredible courage and professional integrity to feature this brilliant artist who plays a guitar brand that only sells direct , respect !
awe-inspiring!
The guy I learned how to play so many songs from!!! Cool 😊
Captain meets me 🤘🍻
Man his picks look so badass🤘🤘
i never knew who the hell andy james is, and I'm south east Asian. but being born in the 80's makes me play Japanese video games till now, and I can assure you, his style of instrumental melody really really suit them. would really love if one day some company hired him to organise all the ost content, that would be sick. respect !
Nice! Shred with Groove.
And that's why andy james is my all time guitar overlord supreme master jedi hero.. period!!
Huge fan of AJ - thanks! Rick Graham next!
The Man right there 🖒
Damn he looks like a nice guy! Awesome video/ interview as usual guys!
About time!
Mr. Andy james an Epic guitarist 🤘, very talented and very musical, known him for more than 4 years now from lick library, i have all of his albums, really good stuff. And if you still think EMG's sound dead Go and listen to his song "Gone" it"ll definitely change your mind; LoL
Dudes a beast
My best guitar player 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
Really Like Andy James. Humble as
Andy rules 🤘
Awesome
Um abraço a todos ai vocês são demais.
I saw Andy, Angel Vivaldi and the Fine Constant in Birmingham. Both Andy and Angels sets were mind blowing shows of technique. I have to admit though, I couldn't recall a thing I'd just heard straight after the gig.
The Captain meets Jason Richardson
Gruenegiraffe This guy just won the comments and this must now happen.
james Mcgrath well no, just cos you like the idea doesn't mean it's won anything mate 👍
I've been waiting for this since I've seen this on Instagram..
