Misha and Jake are cool dudes, but Mark is just so badass. His riffs, chord choices and writing are just superb. I think he's one of the best things to have happened to Periphery.
+alpenjodel24 Umm, okay? Never said Mark was underrated, just said I think he's a cool dude and in terms of writing one of the best things to happen to the band.
All the Ramen on the Sky yes yes i know, and i 100% agree with you. i was just contributing to this conversation by stating that even tho mark is defninetly the writing god of these guys, jake often is forgotten by the fans inbetween misha and mark (maybe because he doesnt have a lot of youtube vids etc i do not know)
alpenjodel24 yeah, sadly he is often forgotten, mostly, in my opinion, because he has the least recognizable writing style. Misha and Mark both have INCREDIBLY recognizable styles, and personalities for that matter, and Jake is often overshadowed by them. He is by no means bad, but he just doesn't have the personality to keep up with Mishap A-sewer and Mrak Holcomb-mania
It was not a pleasure to watch this video. I stopped after the 15 minute mark. Always be in alert-mode with one hand on the volume handle wasn't fun...There is also no smooth transition between talking and playing. Just BAMMM!!!!!!!
I'm generally "too old" for young modern heavy music, djent and such... but gosh, I love Mark Holcomb musicality, his playing, his guitar choice... and he seems like such a very nice humble guy! I'm glad the Captain have him on this video...
@@chrisking6695 exactly..didn't get that comment, cuz it doesn't truly make sense in itself. I'd say if you don't enjoy it, you don't enjoy metal and thats what it i..or enjoy a less amount of music, not as broad of taste. I listen to too many great bands..its too much almost lol literally
I totally agree with Mark when he says sometimes the music or album or band that doesn’t click with you right away, if it grows on you and you give it a chance, you will absolutely get obsessed with it for a long time compared to something that clicks with you right away cause it will get old pretty quick cause you are used to that so that’s why you like it at first. Something that doesn’t click right away isn’t something that you normally like or listen to but that’s why once it clicks you don’t get sick of it after a short while.
The impact that Haunted Shores and Periphery has had on my guitar playing, my writing, and my life cannot be overstated, and it was a true honor to get to meet Mark and the rest of the band and play their guitars when I got the VIP package for a show way back in 2011. Thanks for having him on the show!
Jamie MacMillan It was really cool. I was sorta starstruck the whole time though lol. Really humble yet amazingly talented guy. I played one his SE models, and let me just say I am buying one very soon :)
He is an awesome guy, my wife and I met him outside of Soundstage at the Baltimore show a couple years ago. We accidentally interrupted his Pokémon Go game and he couldn’t have been a nicer more gracious guy...it makes it so easy to be happy for his success, and he is an incredible musician overall.
I would like to see it, I'm a huge Periphery fan, but honestly they can't just spend all their time going through every member of one band. They only put these videos out every once in a while, they should cover more ground to please a wider audience.
The way I always like to think of bands like Periphery and Meshuggah is that it's music for musicians. It goes on a different level than music such as heavy metal and hard rock simply because its written with a certain complexity that musicians have been trained to pay attention to.
I guess, isn't Periphery III a bit toned-down compared to the first 2 though? I think non-musicians could get into that one a lot more, despite my preferring the first album.
@Random dude Periphery and Meshuggah write very aesthetically. That's not to say their music isn't emotional, it absolutely is. I know more about the Periphery side of things, so I'll focus on them for this. Periphery does not write music for anyone but themselves. They make music that they, as musicians, think sounds good aesthetically. This is why I say it's music for musicians. That means that other musicians who have either been trained in music theory or have picked up musical habits through a lot of experience will hear this music and want to understand what they are hearing. To be more specific, what I meant in my comment was that this is music that would interest a musician's aesthetic tastes. You're absolutely right that music isn't about complexity. Take Nirvana for example, very simple yet very powerful. However, complex music undeniably has a certain allure that draws in people who are comfortable and well versed with music. Every musician wants to understand the music they are hearing, and complex music gives them more to decipher. That's why this music is music for musicians.
You're too late, they were in the UK about 10 days ago. I suggested getting both of the guys in one of these videos about a month ago but there's no sign that they listened to it! Maybe next time AB visits the UK...we can only hope!
Jonathan Oakey Even if I uploaded this comment in time, it wouldn't work anyway (probably). Because they'd need to plan it out, the band probably has a schedule for interviews and such.
Bea and Mark together is one of those moments when the stars line up together, celestial symmetry. I imagine this is what it was like when the aristocrats came together. Perhaps haunted shores could morph into a toska

I was the same way. My first album was P3, which i took on listening a few months ago. I couldnt listen to the first 2 tracks but i slowly warmed up to them. Flatline has to be my favorite song and 2 years ago I wouldve skipped that song after 15 seconds.

I met Mark at Guitar Center in Illinois. He was playing acoustic guitar in the acoustic room, preparing for a small Periphery gig later that night. My brief "Hi" turned into a ten minute conversation. Totally cool and down to earth guy. Strike that off of my bucket list. Thanks Mark!
I absolutely love how the individual notes that make up those dissonant chord shapes don't get lost in the distortion. You get the full personality of the dissonant chord in all of it's beauty.

John Browne would be epic, his technique/style is one of my favourites along with Mark. Would love to see them both jam or record something together one day.
The smile on Bea's face at the end is priceless. Being able to jam with one of your guitar heroes is surely a surreal and unforgetable experience. I'm so jealous!

A guest appearance of Rabea with Periphery would be such an epic win !
He's at the end of the video.
+BigFatCock he means Bea play with the entire band

its funny to see captins face at times while mark is playing ..
What is the name of the band he say after meshuga?
Rick, Strapping Young Lad. It's Devin Townsends original band.

if you want an interesting band look up Twelve Foot Ninja. They have the periphery sound mixed in with other stuff like funk
