I have been to most of the Avalon shows over the decades but frankly I am getting too old for all the walking and the heat. So thank you, greatly, for being my eyes, ears and legs. The visit to the Tower ( I used to be an ATCO in the UK) is not something that 99.99% of the visitors to the show can have. Brilliant move.
The only thing worse than Melbourne traffic is Sydney traffic. ATC Tower busy, probably more so over the weekend. Thanks for showing us around again Stef
I've been to this airshow a few times, and yes, often is stinking hot, along with the wind and dust! But there is nothing like it being there viewing all the aircraft.
I remember when the A380 was down here around 10yrs ago, it was pelting down with rain. I had to shelter under the huge wing for hours to let it pass. Very different here today! At least the Air Display isn’t affected.
Hey Stef - what type aircraft was the flight over and back? Nice to get some air to air shots of KJN - planned formation flight? Can't wait for airshow season here in the US!
Nice fire truck!! I bet the pilots who do the displays love being able to show the aircraft's capabilities...fantastic! Air Show or Dog Show! RAAF one presumes? I did some commentary work at what I think was the first Avalon airshow and most times it took about 2-3 hours to get home to Melbourne. Its now become one of the "must go to" airshows in the world! But it can be a very hot place!Nice review yet again Stef!
Dry down there. I know it’s summer but that’s super dry. They used to grow wheat near there, curious if they still do .Victoria is in the midst of a drought, which with the heat wouldn’t make it comfortable down there.
Hey Stef. If you go back to the Airservices fire truck tent, say G’day to Magnus Aircraft Australia right next door to them for me. Rod is a top bloke.
Flying in tomorrow on the Qantas 747 from Sydney, looking forward to it apart from the heat - last time I visited the air show it was very hot and windy, makes the day a bit miserable but can’t do much about it. Just hope there are some air conditioned trade tents to wander through.
Hi Stefan Drury, Can I ask you, what brand is your camera you were using at the airshow? The picture quality is crystal clear and no sound of wind at all. Please tell me. Thanks in advance.
Thanks for that. Great shots in the control tower. Quick question. In your time at the air show, did you see the F35 demonstrate its VTOL ability? I have not see anyone showing this , which is a reason we bought these things. Thanks again for your vids, which are greatly appreciated.
Another great upload 👍👍 Unfortunately I'm off on a 9-day cruise to the South Pac isles (and I do mean unfortunately as I don't do boats/ships well at all). Enjoy the show, Stef and will look forward to catching up on all the posts when I get back. Keep the blue side up!
We watch this channel because you keep it real, we all get our East and West mixed up at time and always call those white puffy things those white puffy things! I have to get a charter to Avalon in 2 years time! Also very cool to hear the ATC controlling it all! Must be intense!
I wondered why I heard a siren going off during a conference I was in on Thursday when I didn't hear the same thing on Wednesday or Tuesday... I now know where it came from... Thanks for the great video as always.
Awesome vid man! My dad works at Nudgee Golf Course and can see the Brissie airport across the woods. Looks awesome when there are 5-10 aircraft coming in to land at night
Stef I'm guessing you've probably been hanging to get a nice shot of KJN flying? Wish i was at the airshow but unfortunately I got commitments but thank you for putting these videos together so I can live it through you. Keep making these videos!
I was wondering how you are catching your own plane in the sky from outside! Then your own planes wing appeared in the clip and I was Ahhhhh its another plane flying by your side....! Loved watching again....enjoy the hot weather.
You're making me want to go to an air show. I haven't been to an airshow in years and years but I think I will have to try to get to one this year. IIRC the US Air Force Thunderbirds perform in an airshow 100 miles or so from here every year and I'm pretty sure that's the closest show to my area. I've never seen the Thunderbirds perform so that'd be really cool though I have seen the US Navy Blue Angels fly many times (I grew up near their home base).
Hi Stefan, That looked like fun...You cheated getting a flights in and out. Does the heat (besides the wind gusts] have a major takeoff/landing effect on the shows performance? I assume the runways are quite long, of course your near sea level. Enough rambling on my part. Cheers, Rik Spector
The airport was originally built for military aircraft production....the RAAF's now retired Mirages and current classic Hornets were produced there along with other aircraft. Qantas has also used it as a pilot training base and facility to service its 747's. The main runway is just over 3km in length.
That heat, can you really ever get used to it. You would think so after being here for nearly 50 years. I am in the west and have my amateur radio call. Forgot to listen to Avalon tower. Heat brain! Cheers and thanks for posting.
It was SO hot yesterday, and only seems to be getting hotter for the next 2 days as well... Really important to stay hydrated and seek cover where possible on days like this.
@@scottjacko87 not as active as I once was. VK3-TWA. yes an airline enthusiasts call. Interested in all things Howard Hughes did and owned. Hence the call. Spend a fortune on magazines on aircraft and cars.
I was planning to go this year but the forecast heat has put me off. It was 40°C today at Avalon and the forecast is for 38° tomorrow. It's a place with no shade and strong winds. By the way, those ATC console buttons have not changed in over 40 years.
Absolutely nothing changed around Avalon or Moorabin , i was thr 10yrs back at the show as a spec . In the video was also hoping to see a big silver robot and a drunk guy stealing a plane doing mad acrobats . That year it was the first time the yanks came up with the F-22 Raptors and dnd do a flyby but the main attraction was the mighty B52 doing a few flybys , man i can still hear those engines roar .
80085 > KJN Do you know who was flying KJN and was that planned or completely random? I know you don’t own KJN, but do you ever feel like she’s cheating on you...if not just a little bit? 😂
Is this the first time USAF has showed off an F-22 at Avalon? EDIT: I wish the RMAF got approval to bring their Su-30MKM's down under. It'd be quite interesting to see a Su-30 go up against a F-22 in a mock dogfight. Hell, it'd be interesting if the Indonesian Air Force (TNI-AU) got invited and brought along their Su-30MKK and (if delivered by next year's airshow), their Su-35s.

Looks like Milkshake took KJN for a spin while you were messing about at the air show!!
Some dirty rotten mongrel messing with KJN...
Sociopathic Narcissist it was Milkshake lol

I LOVE AIRSHOWSSSS AND YOUR CONTENT BRO ‼️
Can’t wait to go tomorrow, with Air Force cadets

Hey Stef - what type aircraft was the flight over and back? Nice to get some air to air shots of KJN - planned formation flight? Can't wait for airshow season here in the US!
Looked like a Piper Navajo. Not as fast as KJN!
It was a Piper PA-31-350 Chieftain. A stretched Navajo.
It was so hot that day. Its a great air show. The night show is amazing.
6:40 i was in the carpark when they did that manoeuvre. Cant wait for tomorrow!
I saw you there but you were filming
Those KJN airshots are awsome
thanks Stefan and AirServices Aus for letting us see the show...

Just saw your flight landing, have a fun day at Avalon.
Awesome tower footage! Can't wait to get there tomorrow 😁
I'm going there this year, flying from sydney

Canon 80D with Rode VideoMicro on top. Thanks.

The RAAF uses the F-35A which only has conventional take-off and landing capabilities

Ha, sorry, I asked Andrew to turn the siren on. Made everyone stop and look!
It sure got my attention. I'd say it was a welcome distraction, but the FTSA conference is actually pretty interesting.

I’m going on Sunday with the AAFC looking forward to it
Went with cadets it was great
Can you explain how you and KJN both arrived and departed at the same time?
Different KJN
Hey how long was the flight from Melb to Avalon?
Took us about 15mins I think. Straight across the bay and in via Clifton Springs.

Good to see Mike Walden working @ YMAV again. No doubt ARG was working there too.. :)
Why do I watch this channel, for this very reason. 🤣
Great video Stef, that intro. You were right about the tail of the plane. I’m going to the airshow tonight so that will be good I guess.
Hey Stef, if you can remember this comment for the meet-up tomorrow I will have a reward. Can’t wait to see you!
im going sunday, hows he car traffic
Leave early, give yourself plenty of time, bring water. The queues are long.
Wow Stef. You're a clever person for being able to fly KJN remotely ;) Does Jacqui ever get jealous of the relationship you have with KJN? :P
It’s the auto-auto-pilot we installed :) I think Jacq is Happy I have KJN, means I’m out a lot so she can have some peace and quiet.
Where is everyone?!!?
Kinda disappointed i didn't go today
Butttttt then i remember it was 37° and that I'd haev to walk around outside all day 🤔

Ha, thanks. And don’t worry, I’m sure there will be plenty more “puffy fluffy” moments on this channel...
Air show and 80085 nothing better
I was there

Im so mad i dont get to see the F-22 or the F-35, University be ruining my fun 😭
