When I was a kid I rode Pirates at least once on my annual trip with my grandma, my absolute fave ride still. I always yearned with all my heart to get to see what that amazing-looking grown up place was all about. Didn’t even know what it was, didn’t rly believe it was real until I grew up. We’re clearly less spendthrifty than my grandma (gotta say, gma always ended the day with a hotdog for me and got home in time to make dinner for grandpa, more power to her, it was the olden days...) & now have been a handful of times with our kids as they grew up. Never fails to thrill me. I don’t think many folks appreciate it as much as I do, esp my husband due to the cost... Thx for the vid & all your love for the Blue Bayou!

The "mansion" facade inside the Blue Bayou restaurant is a tribute to the Chicken Plantation, a popular Frontierland restaurant back in the early years of the park. The closure of the Chicken Plantation was not due to finances. Instead, it’s seven year run came to an end because they needed the real estate to build New Orleans Square. While not an exact copy, the Blue Bayou facade was heavily inspired by it. The Chicken Plantation isn't entirely gone, though. In Adventureland, there are two support columns from the Chicken Plantation on either side of a shelf. They are at the end of the shop closest to the Enchanted Tiki Room. You were perfectly okay saying river instead of bayou. A bayou is a shallow, slow moving river or stream that connects lakes or swamps. And yes, there's a difference; a swamp and a bayou are not the same thing. A swamp is essentially a shallow lake that is filled with trees and plants. Red beans and rice are served there and called "soup"? I'm Cajun, and to me that's mind-blowing. Beans and rice are a main dish in my playbook, or a side dish at the least.

my wife and I just love the Blue Bayou, the ambience, the food, the service(we love Paul Z!). All in all a 5 star every time. It also has what you talk about a lot, movement, you can see Pirates from your table and hear the excitement of the people going to meet davey jones!.

When I rode this in the late 60s for the first time, this scene with the fireflies and the evening sky and the people on the other side, eating, I thought that was pretty weird for a ride. The most memorable part of the ride.
I "lived" in Disneyland during the 70's, and a year pass cost around $70.00 back then. The park was pretty much empty in the fall, winter, and spring, when schools were open. Summers were sardine city, but still fun. Great bands in Tomorrowland. A lot has changed. Thanks for your videos, especially the Blue Bayou dinner from a few years ago. The carnivore line was hilarious.
I have always loved Blue Bayou. I remember eating there when I was a kid. We came to Disneyland on our California trip each summer, and our day trip would include Blue Bayou and Hungry Bear.

I went to Blue Bayou for the first time in May and it was worth every penny. Such an amazing experience. Then I took my mom for her first time there in October - the Red Beans and Rice is heavenly. Blue Bayou will always be part of my trips now
Blue Bayou is definitely a must have experience. The ambience is irreplaceable. However, the portions are tiny and prices are high (Plus I do always feel rushed). So far, I would have to say the Wine Country Trattoria is my favorite sit down restaurant. Prices are fair, nice atmosphere, and drinks are plentiful! Shrimp Fettuccine and Long Island iced tea!

We haven't been there in years... First time, it was an amazing experience in 2008, second time in 2013, the food wasn't great... but of course the atmosphere was incredible. Is it good again?? So far, my favorite fancy dinner place is Napa Rose in GCH.
I absolutely love the Monte Cristo sandwich for lunch. Love the Prime Rib when they have it or the Lamb for dinner. My parents took me there in the early 70's, I took my family there in the 80's, 90's and 2000's and took the grandchild a few years ago.
What a Wonderful Date Night! I would take my wife Chelle and do the same thing, but we live near Fort Worth, TX. Blue Bayou is one of my favorite restaurants, too. Was this a new personal record (almost 60 min) waiting for Pirates? A Great Memory!
I have a funny story going on the pirates ride and seeing my friends from highschool dining at the restaurant from the boat and yelling their names out 🤣 we met up afterwards 😁
I really like those “inside it’s outside and always evening” environments like Pirates/Blue Bayeux and inside the Mexico pavilion at EPCOT. I’d like to see more of them. We had a water table one slow day at the park. We had a leisurely lunch. The kids ate fast and went off to ride pirates. The rode by 4 times and waived. I only had bad service there once. One of our party’s entres was missing when we were served. The manager came out and apologized, brought them something else that wouldn’t take as long. They brought us all free dessert and presented us with a front of the line pass good for any ride in the park. They screwed up our order and we still left ecstatic. That’s service!
FrshBaked, David, Liz. The Blue Bayou was alway's the most expensive restaurant at D/Land but also the best for atmosphere. Is there any live music these day's? In the evening's there used to be a wandering violin player and way before that The Royal Street Bachelor's would also play. I didn't notice but were the fireflies stll flying.? Never in my life have I had a good lobster. So sad. lol. I ordered lobster at a steak house, two different times. It was so dry and prickly ..it literally poked my fingers and I couldn't it it. the small nibble I got from it .. it was like rubber. Waaaay over cooked. The 3rd time, a friend of mine took me to Red Lobster during their Lobster fest season. Wouldn't you know it, the waitress claimed they were OUT of lobster. One day... One day I hope to get to experience a properly prepared lobster tail. Regarding Disneyland, I ate at a restaurant that was right outside of Pirates of the Caribbean. I'm not sure if that was the Blue Bayou, it was outdoors in front of the entrance (off to the side) of Blue Bayou. I enjoyed the rainbow trout entree. It was SOOO good. One of those things you eat once and never forget. That was years ago, before the Pirates movies came out. Me and my mom ( may she RIP) loved Disneyland. She was quite a sport being a middle aged woman and daring me to go with her on the various roller coaster rides. LOL. And of course OUR favorite attraction at Disneyland was Pirates of the Caribbean. So beautiful, mysterious, magical .. amazing. Love that attraction. I would love to dine one time inside, in the Blue Bayou restaurant at a table near the water. It looks so ethereal .. with all the ambiance around, the water and the fire flies. How awesome it must be to get to enjoy Lobster tail and Fillet mignon. Especially if it's covered in butter baked. It looked like it. With all the seasonings. I've made beef at home, Prime Rib Roast with the seasoned butter. Better than most steak houses according to my son. Thank you for sharing your dining experience with us all. I hope to get to try that restaurant myself one day .. soon. :)
Lobster is only in season in the months that end in "ber" - so if you're going to try again only go during those months. That said, the further you live away from the coasts the lower your quality is going to get typically. It's great when it's great - hope you get to eat some good lobster soon!
Once in the mid 80s I was at DL on a slow day during the week. I rode pirates and I was the only one in my boat and nobody was in the boat in front or behind me.It was a bit freaky but boy those were the days. We will never see slow days like that again..
My wife took me there for my birthday may years ago. Interesting experience but food was just ordinary. I guess for food available within the park, its good by comparison. But the food right around in DD or the Hotels is better.
First of all; Happy New Decade. Believe or not; I kind of miss the *Big Thunder Ranch BBQ* - back in the day, the food there was pretty good. Also I have ate at the *Blue Bayou* only one time for the lunch, the food still looks amazing; a bit pricey (lunch and dinner price) but it is a must if you have the money.
I think I've been to the BB 3 times.....and I think we did the ride immediately first one time...and had a waterside table once (maybe?) I've had two different versions of the salmon (amazing) and the Jambalaya once......the batch I had was good and spicy....and quite delicious!
I'm glad you enjoyed your dinner but I have different thoughts about Blue Bayou. We ate there over a year ago and I was disappointed. It's a)overpriced, b)overrated and c)really not that good. I don't fall into this category anymore but I think some people think a restaurant is good if it's expensive. Possibly but maybe not. This reminds of the experiment I saw a while back where a pop-up shoe store was opened and they invited people in to check out the shoes that were priced in the 100"s of dollars. People came in and talked about how they would be more than glad to pay $300 for a pair of tennis shoes. It turned out all the shoes were from payless and cost around $40 average. I think the moral of the story is that these jokers had no idea what they were looking at and assumed that the shoes must be good because they were expensive. They looked like fools after they were told what the real costs were. So I wonder how many people assume Blue Bayou is good/great just because it's expensive? Or maybe there are just a lot of fools out there with money who have no idea what good food really tastes like. jmho
We have reservations for Blue Bayou in January!! The food looks wonderful.Did you have to request a water table when you got there? Or is there a way to request ahead of time?
Show up 10-20 minutes before your reservation and request the water table. Expect a wait from that point on to be 10-30 more minutes. If you want to eat at Blue Bayou then this is the way to do it.
I ate their two weeks ago. Great food, great environment; poor service (food was cold), poor menu ( not enough options). I wish they’d bring back the gumbo. I also wish kids under 10 weren’t allowed in. It can be difficult to enjoy “fine dining “ with loud kids around.
Surf & turf is my go-to meal @ BB. But I was disappointed when we were there in Sept, that they changed the sauce they put on the filet :( I substitute roasted potatoes for the au gratin. Why does their ranch dressing taste so much better???
I'm confused. I thought the "Auction Scene" was changed to a woman talking. This ride video showed the old set up. Or am I mistaken? Also, I think the drop is too well lit for my taste. I was always more excited by the darkness and not knowing exactly when the drop would occur. It would feel like a bigger drop in the dark as well. I Love the Blue Bayou. Just don't throw any food to the riders!!! Just kidding...
Very little chance of eating at a decent time without a reservation. Make the reservation a month in advance and do it early in the day since prime time fills up FAST.

Pirates ride and dinner were filmed with a mirrorless DSLR, also in 4k. but it's the DSLR that you're noticing.

Went for the first time to The Blue Bayou, I did it! Okay Liked the feel and look, but food needs help.

I'm glad you enjoyed your dinner but I have different thoughts about Blue Bayou. We ate there over a year ago and I was disappointed. It's a)overpriced, b)overrated and c)really not that good. I don't fall into this category anymore but I think some people think a restaurant is good if it's expensive. Possibly but maybe not. This reminds of the experiment I saw a while back where a pop-up shoe store was opened and they invited people in to check out the shoes that were priced in the 100"s of dollars. People came in and talked about how they would be more than glad to pay $300 for a pair of tennis shoes. It turned out all the shoes were from payless and cost around $40 average. I think the moral of the story is that these jokers had no idea what they were looking at and assumed that the shoes must be good because they were expensive. They looked like fools after they were told what the real costs were. So I wonder how many people assume Blue Bayou is good/great just because it's expensive? Or maybe there are just a lot of fools out there with money who have no idea what good food really tastes like. jmho
85 minutes for Pirates? I would never wait more than 20.
On December 28th, the only line that is 20 minutes is the restroom!
I used to eat there for the spaghetti till was removed from its menu. Sad sad day

One would think they would have an alligator or catfish or crawfish option on the menu ...being a bayou.
We have reservations for Blue Bayou in January!! The food looks wonderful.Did you have to request a water table when you got there? Or is there a way to request ahead of time?
Ladybikeracer you arrive 20 min (once we were told 30) early and request a water table. They will tell you it may be a longer wait.
Show up 10-20 minutes before your reservation and request the water table. Expect a wait from that point on to be 10-30 more minutes. If you want to eat at Blue Bayou then this is the way to do it.

I ate their two weeks ago. Great food, great environment; poor service (food was cold), poor menu ( not enough options). I wish they’d bring back the gumbo. I also wish kids under 10 weren’t allowed in. It can be difficult to enjoy “fine dining “ with loud kids around.

Surf & turf is my go-to meal @ BB. But I was disappointed when we were there in Sept, that they changed the sauce they put on the filet :( I substitute roasted potatoes for the au gratin. Why does their ranch dressing taste so much better???
Though most the menu items remain the same, the recipes have changed.
I'm confused. I thought the "Auction Scene" was changed to a woman talking. This ride video showed the old set up. Or am I mistaken? Also, I think the drop is too well lit for my taste. I was always more excited by the darkness and not knowing exactly when the drop would occur. It would feel like a bigger drop in the dark as well. I Love the Blue Bayou. Just don't throw any food to the riders!!! Just kidding...

Used to be half reservations and half walk-in's. Now it's 100% reservations.
pretty sure you can still walk in.
Very little chance of eating at a decent time without a reservation. Make the reservation a month in advance and do it early in the day since prime time fills up FAST.
