Thanks! At the indoor range I just use 6" and 9" plates and then I buy the orange target stickers and put them on. They are my favorite to shoot at and very cheap. Anything you see outdoors are local ranges I go to to shoot competitions. The targets you see can be bought though from steel target manufacturers.
after seeing your video ,i ordered a kit from midway usa and another mag (2 total) for on sale price of 319.99 . i already have a mark 2 22 i just . to not spend 100 everytime i go shoot for my ammo. it seems to make even more sence now with ammo availabity (if you can find) . even if i have to shoot cci ammo ,i am still savng a ton as much as i shoot. good explination vdeo.
shot kit a few weeks ago , shot cci stingers to break in (200 rds_) I changed my mainspring to 19 pounds for reliability. good video , I think the conversion was well worth . I also used frog lube on the kit , it just wiped clean ,even dirt in chamber came out easily . I did heat slide up to apply 1st application , and used the paste.
I think you making a video showing how you alter your kimber mags would be good info ,I already made mine 15 rds each. just an idea ,the idea of hi -cap mags was a plus for me to get kit.
Picked up one of this myself last most. Surprisingly accurate. Only thing I hate about the experience is that both the front and rear sights came loose on the first outing.
sorry it took me so long to respond, love my kit , did not shoot yet but dry cycled it 3-400 times to help break in . good investment with ammo so high .
45 acp is 23 pounds on main spring . the 19 pound lets me shoot Wal-Mart bulk packs more reliable . as mainspring on rimfire guns from kimber is 18 pounds ,I wanted a bit heavier so it also works on 45 too. yes it lightened trigger about 1 pound.
Colt .22 conversion mags work in these. Some report that the pistols are not reliable, others say that they require 300+ rounds to break in. I just found a full Kimber 1911 .22 pistol at a nice used price, looks pristine, I put a few drops of CLP on the slide and am spending the evening cycling it, hand lapping it. The whole thing looks to be a high quality piece. Good video!
I don't know if this would work, but I know UpLula has a loader for .22lr. I was looking into getting one, but I'd only use it for these mags. I don't mind so much since the spring tension is not too strong.
Nice Video. Question:: Do you know of a magazine loader for the .22 LR Kimber Conversion?? It gets a little old loading .22's into magazines & after a day at the range a loader sure would help. Thanks. Sincerely, JAMES.
Good job on the review. I am going to pick up one of these in the future. Was looking at the colt/walther 1911 .22 but found out the lower was made from zimak pot metal, no thanks. I want a steel lower.
My Kimber jams all the time. It is an excellent conversion but if ammo finicky/ I know it states use high velocity ammo which I am using Remington Thunderbolt at `1200fps which is not sufficient.. I also changed the main spring to 19# recommended in the Kimber manual which made no difference. I did notice the hammer dragging on the slide so I have polished the bottom middle of the slide and he hammer where it makes contact. I will retest soon. By the way I have the Sig Sauer conversion kit in 1911 .22LR and it is not ammo finicky and the magazines do lock by on the last shot. I am hoping the Kimber can get ironed out because it does have a nice adjustable rear site and better finish. I need a better front site however since it is black blade on black rear site...
Thank you for the review. Quick question, does your Smith & Alexander Magwell and backstrap allow the Kimber magazines to seat properly in your 1911? Thank you for your time.
Within 25 yards and preferably on a stable platform yes. Beyond that I wouldn't recommend it. You could easily strike a steel plate well beyond 50 yards that but not with hunting accuracy.
You cut down the plastic piece on the follower as I remember. But keep in mind to check your local laws as such modification can be illegally depending on your state.
I am hoping there is someone who will know of a magazine loader that will work on the kit's magazine. After loading mag after mag it sure can burn out your fingers & leave them sore for days. I would greatly appreciate any information regarding this. Thank you. Sincerely, JAMES.
Remington ammo does not work because Remington is THE DIRTIEST burning ammo you can buy. Its junk. If you read the Kimber kit manual, they tell you to use CCI Mini Mags, especially for break in. Winchester ammo it not much better. CCI and Federal seem to be the most reliable.
I'm not sure. Unfortunately it does not work on some platforms. Was not compatible with my Springfield trp. I think it only works on a certain series of 1911.

how did you do it? you should put up a video.

Mine fits my Kimber Pro Cary 2 9mm
That's pretty sweet. 9mm and 22lr.
knifezoid Yep, cheap and cheaper!
Good to know! I may try them.
Very Cool , I've always had my eye on one for years . I have a complete 22lr Glock this will be next on my short list .Great Video . Gerry

HOw do you like your kit so far?

If you open up the mag you'll see the follower has a long "guide rod" for the spring. That is what I cut down.
Yeah I have a little one. But honestly I don't know why I never made that mistake. It goes in with just a push, never had an issue.
good video , did you only trim down that stop in mag to get to 15 ? i have no limits in indiana .
I want the AA kit for the Glock, but I feel like this is enough. Neither kit is cheap.
Excellent review
mojofish1 Thanks!

Have you tried the 16+1 kimber mag mod yet?
I can't anymore. NJ limit is now 10 rounds. Sucks!
I don't know if this would work, but I know UpLula has a loader for .22lr. I was looking into getting one, but I'd only use it for these mags. I don't mind so much since the spring tension is not too strong.
Will the kit work wit any 1911 ?
No. I think series 80 only? I could be wrong. Does not work on my Springfield TRP.

Really informative, thanks.

Robert B it's a good kit. Just make sure it works on your pistol. Mags don't work for some reason In my Springfield trp

Seems a little inconsistent unfortunately. I would hope a brand like Kimber would iron stuff like this out.
Thank you for the review. Quick question, does your Smith & Alexander Magwell and backstrap allow the Kimber magazines to seat properly in your 1911? Thank you for your time.
Paul Chisholm yes does not interfere at all
By the way, the Pro-Mags work perfectly if you can't find the factory ones at a decent price.
What is the stock mainspring at? 19lbs is heavier or lighter? What's the trigger pull?
Is it accurate enough to small game hunt with
Within 25 yards and preferably on a stable platform yes. Beyond that I wouldn't recommend it. You could easily strike a steel plate well beyond 50 yards that but not with hunting accuracy.
good video!
YEAH! Central Jersey Rifle & Pistol Club!
with an alloy slide and a steel frame, woundnt the slide get loose after a while ?
what do you think of iver johnson range of 1911 pistols ?
geezerp1982 I never heard of it being an issue. It doesn't lock back because the steel slide stop would eat into the aluminum. So on that aspect yes
and what do you think of iver johnson 1911 .22 kit ?
geezerp1982 I actually don't have any experience or knowledge on it sorry
Do these fit a Rock Island full size 1911 9mm???
That I'm not sure. I know on a 9 mm some things on the frame might different. But not sure if that effects the fit of the upper.
how did you modified la mag for 15 rounds? thx.
You cut down the plastic piece on the follower as I remember. But keep in mind to check your local laws as such modification can be illegally depending on your state.

Remington bulk is only ok for revolvers and SA Bolt action rifles.....and still it may jam!
U want to sell
No one shows how to clean and lube it.
Remington ammo does not work because Remington is THE DIRTIEST burning ammo you can buy. Its junk. If you read the Kimber kit manual, they tell you to use CCI Mini Mags, especially for break in.

Talk talk talk talk
Will this work on metro arms 1911 ?
I'm not sure. Unfortunately it does not work on some platforms. Was not compatible with my Springfield trp. I think it only works on a certain series of 1911.
Is this conversation kit fits 70 and 80 series both ?
