  • In the moment it can be difficult to know whether or not you have obsessive compulsive disorder, also known as OCD. Obsessive compulsive disorder is when obessions or compulsive thoughts get in the way of living your life. Obessions are repetitive thoughts that are often intrusive and unwanted. Compulsions, on the other hand, are repetitive behaviors that someone feels compelled to do even when they don't want to. JED consulting expert and Chief Medical Officer Dr. Laura Erickson-Schroth discusses common symptoms and behavior of OCD and explains the difference between OCD and other anxiety disorders.
If you or someone you know is experiencing symptoms of OCD know that you don't need to go through this alone. Reach out to your primary care doctor or a mental health professional to get the right treatment for you. The most common treatment for OCD is CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) which involves working to change thinking patterns. It's important to find the right doctor that knows how to treat OCD patients and is familiar with CBT treatments. Therapy over time will help you building coping techniques and become less overwhelmed. You are never alone because JED is here for you!
