  • If you don't have a barn, this is the next best thing. The most important aspects of any farrowing pens are:
*Piglets stay out of the elements (specifically wind and rain)
*No bedding (it's a hazard to the piglets, and increases piglet crushing)
*Momma's feed/watering bowl is away from the piglets
It's a big bonus if your pen is set up in a way that momma can get out, but very young piglets cannot. It keeps the piglet mortality rate lower this way.
As always, find more information at www.RaisingKuneKunes.com!

I notice that you don’t have any bedding down, is there a reason for no straw for them to lay and burrow in?

We have a pole barn we are enclosing. What type of flooring would you suggest for the farrowing bay/pen. I was thinking horse stall mats on top of the ground. I am a First-time kunekune breeder. thank you for your videos and website, it is very helpful.

Hey there, My farrowiing pen will be in a stall, in our barn that has a dirt foor. Being you said no bedding, do you recommend putting a mat down (we have the thick black horse mats) or stay with the dirt flooring? Any help I very much appreciated.
