- If you don't have a barn, this is the next best thing. The most important aspects of any farrowing pens are:
*Piglets stay out of the elements (specifically wind and rain)
*No bedding (it's a hazard to the piglets, and increases piglet crushing)
*Momma's feed/watering bowl is away from the piglets
It's a big bonus if your pen is set up in a way that momma can get out, but very young piglets cannot. It keeps the piglet mortality rate lower this way.
As always, find more information at www.RaisingKuneKunes.com!
Thank you for sharing some great ideas here that we will replicate for our pig setup! 😍
So glad you shared this!!! Y’all are the best!!! 😊
Thank you!!
I notice that you don’t have any bedding down, is there a reason for no straw for them to lay and burrow in?
We have a pole barn we are enclosing. What type of flooring would you suggest for the farrowing bay/pen. I was thinking horse stall mats on top of the ground. I am a First-time kunekune breeder. thank you for your videos and website, it is very helpful.
Hey there, My farrowiing pen will be in a stall, in our barn that has a dirt foor. Being you said no bedding, do you recommend putting a mat down (we have the thick black horse mats) or stay with the dirt flooring? Any help I very much appreciated.
This was very informative. Thank you for sharing!
Could we please support each other, I'd really appreciate it if we could
