    I'm an HVAC guy (55). I want to be a farmer so bad I'm watching barn videos....lol I don't mind hard work at all... But, Seems its just a dream. Thanks for sharing!

      I'm older than you and It doesn't need to be just a dream. I went from the suburbs in California 6 years ago and moved 1500 miles away into the mountains on a 10 acre farm with my family and grown children. We have chickens, ducks, turkeys, geese, pigs, goats, 2 cows and sheep (and many dogs). I was scared to death and it took me 3 years to make the move incrementally. Start small and take your time, even if you just buy an acre - start somewhere and make a plan. Good Luck and Blessings!

    Great job! This helps with my ideas to build a barn shed for my ND goats.

    Very cool. My only concern would be giving the critters a place to get out of the wind in the winter.

    You did a great job. I understand the ideal about the lower roof. I think I would made it where I can walk underneath without hitting my head. I like the part where you can clean the pins by pushing it out under the sides. You can wash them out easier that way too. Thank you for sharing.

    Hello, my homestead is in northwest Florida near Alabama border. I been looking at a lot of different ways to build a small barn and this idea you had to take a basic pole barn as the main structure is something I may do. I like the simplicity of only two metal trusses for roof of main building and then lean-to structures surrounding it. Thanks for sharing.

    Great Job. Love that you left the raw wood.
    Maybe paint that board glow green ??
    Lol

      Thank you - we are really happy with how it turned out. Glow green huh? 😂😂 Not sure how that would match everything else. When I have painted things - it is usually that mossy green color of the shed and house. But honestly - I rarely have the time to go back and pain anything. I said 5 years ago I was going to pain the chicken coop - never happened and the chickens dont seem to mind. 😂😂 - Rick

    Great looking barn. I would love to build something like this for our KuneKunes and baby chickens. Up here in Ohio we would need all 4 sides sealed off from the weather too. But otherwise this is a great design!

    • @TheLaLaFarm
      @TheLaLaFarm  2 роки тому

      Agreed - there is no way we can enclose it - would just be too hot in the Florida Summers. Grew up in western NY and all barns are enclosed up there because of the cold winters. Thanks for stopping by. - Rick

    My husband built my 8yo a chicken tractor, when I took it over, I kept hitting my head and the only way to clean it out was to bend over. I finally convinced him to get me a 6' shed for a chicken coop, Hitting your head every day is going to get old. So will bending over to clean out those stalls. I pray this works for you, but I see you lifting the roof a foot or two in the near future.

    Do you have a floor plan for this barn? I would love to look at it, maybe I can come up with something within those lines.

    • @TheLaLaFarm
      @TheLaLaFarm  Рік тому

      Don't have plans - it all started with a 12×12 pole barn and then I had a 24x24 concrete pad poured and then framed out overhangs. It turned out really great!!!

    Looks great. Just curious, are you putting electric fencing up on the inside of the pens? If not I am wondering why you did not put your horizontal boards on the inside of the stalls. The pigs push and will push those horizontal boards right off. Great concept.
    Thanks for sharing 👍 😊

    • @TheLaLaFarm
      @TheLaLaFarm  2 роки тому +3

      No - the original plan was to put them on the inside, but for appearance sake - I chose to go to the outside. Our friends who breed pigs, said they have theirs on the outside and have never had one pushed off. The design has also been tested on goats now for about 5 years, and they have never pushed a board off the post - despite trying on a daily basis to break the boards. We have had 2x6s break in the middle of the board across he grain (which I would not have guessed was possible), but have never had a 2x6 be pushed off of post. East 2x6 is screwed in with 6-8 three inch screws per 6x6 post. I think they will work out long term. Your concern was my concern at first, but if it can hold a Kiko buck who is intentionally trying to break it - I think it will hold the hogs.

    Curious as to why you need heaters in Florida?
