Even more History: The Mogami class were four cruisers (IJN Mogami, IJN Mikuma, IJN Suzuya, and IJN Kumano) built for the Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN) during the 1930s. They were initially classified as light cruisers under the weight and armament restrictions of the London Naval Treaty. After Japan refused to comply any longer with that agreement, all four ships were rearmed with larger guns and were reclassified as heavy cruisers. All four sisters participated in World War II and were sunk.
All four ships participated in the Japanese invasion of the Dutch East Indies. Mogami and Mikuma were present at the Battle of Sunda Strait and contributed to the sinkings of the cruisers HMAS Perth and USS Houston.
In June 1942, all four took part in the Battle of Midway, where Mogami and Mikuma collided trying to avoid a submarine attack; Mikuma was finished off on 6 June 1942 by aircraft from aircraft carriers USS Enterprise and Hornet. The heavily damaged Mogami limped home and spent ten months in yard, during which her afterparts were completely rebuilt, and "X" and "Y" turrets were replaced by a flight deck (with the intention to operate 11 aircraft).
In October 1944, the survivors were reunited at the Battle of Leyte Gulf. Mogami, heavily damaged by a collision with the cruiser Nachi, cruiser gunfire, and aerial attack, was scuttled by the destroyer Akebono, while Kumano stumbled into Manila harbor on one boiler, to be put out of her misery by Halsey's aviators on 25 November 1944; the US escort carrier planes mauled Suzuya at Leyte, and she was scuttled by the destroyer Okinami on 25 October.
Spartan I wouldnt mind seeing you revisit some premiums again. I like seeing your latest commander builds and going over the ships again since much in the game has changed since some of your initial videos. I have learned so much from your videos.
I second this motion. It would be nice to see some updated videos on some of the premium ships with updated commander and equipment builds.
I've been playing a lot of Mogami lately and you don't have to play it at the back of map to do well. My strat is to rush right up to the edge of the cap (in domination) or the first or second piece of cover then immediately turn around and launch torps from the rear off both sides for area denial.
From there you usually either spots the enemy BBs or get detected by a destroyer. At that point you start kiting away, setting fires, and launching torps when you can. When you need to shake some damage or move back in, you just stop shooting and close the distance again. I've been consistently putting up 100k+ games and wins since I started doing that.
I know this video was a while ago so you've improved a lot since then and warmed up more to different playstyles though. gg regardless 👍
I just watched the movie midway and it was amazing watching the American planes demolish the Japanese carriers hopefully you have seen it too spartan!
Movie was super action packed
Yes that's exactly what happened all the characters are real and they actually where mostly accurate in the battle itself down to the timing
I love this ship, i know it’s easy to die but it’s so easy to dodge just go fast and turn and keep ur distance, i like yo yo use it from far far distances or while driving away from other ships it’s very easy to dodge and torp that way. ive gottne very high damage games in this and also instantly killed so it’s a hard balance
Gotta love when the carrier drops a bomb and destroys both torp launchers...geez.
i wait for the path to the fletcher tbh
Spartan : the Fletcher is the best gunboat outside of legendary
Friesland : am i a joke to you?
ZF-6 has short fuse AP so it gets pens on DDs, I have melted so many overconfident Fletchers, with the reload booster of course.
Friesland is new and I forgot about it
Sad akitzuki noises in the background
@@oskaraxelsson8567 akizuki still might get wrecked by Friesland
@@obliviousgaming9445 that is just depending on the captain because yes the friseland has a very short reload but the akitzuki has twice as many guns and torps so it would definitely depend on the captain in a 1 Vs 1
12:10 lol I think your catapult fighter got hit bit the incoming shells
A Mikawa agility build is the only way to play these ships. Very powerful when kiting and ambushing.
Good one…! Thanks for sharing!
Spartan, you should do a similar premium ship after each tech tree, like an Atago after this.
I have Mogami unlocked, been holding on buying it due to the fact I already have the Suzuya, I will buy it eventually but I have 2 more Legendaries about to be unlocked and I need that money for mods.
Well me again, the four Mogami-Class were, IJN Mogami, IJN Mikuma, IJN Suzuya and IJN Kumano. None of the Mogami-Class ships survived ww2
I Loved the IJN Cruisers they are solid and reliable 👌 u know what u get and i like that.
What's funny spartan is I tend to shoot Japanese cruisers even bow on and I get overpins lmao maybe it's my luck lol
she was designed as a heavy cruiser but armed as a "light" cruiser. after the Japanese withdrew from the Washington naval treaty, the new turrets were "discovered " in a warehouse and installed.
I suppose they just had some heavy cruiser-caliber guns lying around abandoned in some warehouse lol
The definition of 'light' and 'heavy' cruiser after the WNT and especially the LNT was entirely political--the results of arms limitations treaties. They're the same ship from an evolutionary standpoint. The USN defined both the Pensicola and Northhampton classes as initially light cruisers (CL) and only changed the hull designator to heavy cruiser (CA) after the LNT made a distinction between ships of 10k tons and below when armed with larger than 6.1" guns and those armed with smaller than 6.1" guns. That's it. What the Japanese did do was design these ships from the getgo with the thought of rearming them with 8" guns when the treaties inevitably expired. The writing was already on the wall by 1933 and the Japanese withdrew from the treaties in 1936--and promptly rearmed these ships.
If you ever feel like flirting with death each match just play Japanese cruisers especially high tier.
Danae takes the cake in that department
Funny how everyone has a different idea....TBULL loves this ship!
Yes many people do lol Spartan isn't a HE spammer dude
Yeah doesn't like to kite away either
the curse of the 25mm type 96 was strong on this one
I use Yamamoto on my mogami it wreck broadside cruisers and even broadside battleships with my AP
Beatuiful
I vehemently disagree on this ship sparten...it is a glass Cannon but @ tier seven if you survive your more then likely top 3 on your team w/ mvp more then likely..
That Mogami looks pretty good even if it is squishy to battleship rounds.
Can you name me one cruiser that isn't?
It would help carriers alot if the developers added a zoom feature, just like regular warships targeting ships at a distance. The zoom will help carriers see which direction a potential target is going long before they arrive to strike. Not to mention, just like how warships have a torpedo assist feature, telling you where you should let your fishes go, the same thing can be used for carriers. Lots of potential here...
I love the MOGAMIIIII
Path to the chapayev next pls great video btw
What if Monte was out there would you be scared then spartan lol. Good vid bud.
12:44 what about the Friesland ??
spartan a tip never use he against carriers carriers have damage con party duration of 1 minute better to use ap
Hey spartan can you explain the compromiseing debuff I'm confused because it says" higher caliber shells may overpin the armor but may still arm depending on the shell velocity" I always think" why does it matter if the shells arm as they over pined the armor and are outside the ship.
Compromising is just telling you that your armor is thick enough to potentially arm Battleship caliber guns rather than getting overpenned.
@@SpartanElite43 oh ok it makes sense now thank you.
The DPM is precisely why I prefer her sistership the susia
I kills many fletchers with the friesland
Suzuya bonus episode?
Path to the hipper?
Why on legends we have 5x2 turrets but in wow on pc they have 5x3? I mean, that s not fair
Spartan, I've been watching you for over 2 years now and I know you are a smart dude, even though you play a stupid one on TV! 😉😁
Ouch my feels
I'm still salty that Mogami didn't have the option to have the 155mm guns guns but nooo I get the 203mm guns
Play Suzyua and u have mogami with th 155mm guns......
@@Nariko96 but what if you don't have the suzyua????
Also I didn't felt like buying the admiralty backing
@@stupidkoreangamer9398 welll then.... unlucky thats the way how it goes give money or Cry thats WG making money where its possible.
Well I'm not giving any more of my money until wg fixes their mess
Played against you in your mogami think you might have been trying to get a video out, I was in a richelieu you burnt me down! My team did manage to win when they decided to head back to my side of the map
I just don’t think azzurlane is needed with the 203’s
I went ARP Takao as commander with AL Roon and Al Baltimore as inspiration making me an extremely agile and accurate cruiser.
I swear if I watch this and see my ship turned into mashed potatoes 🥔. This Idahoan will be sad. lol 😂
Spartan can I friend you?
Hey Spartan just faced you in Friesland on North, you were in Iowa and i think you might have get salty against me 😂, i killed you along with that Z-23 and the Mogami in your team, wich, beside you and a peter bag plus that Akizuki were very trashy players, finished 1st I absolutly love Friesland, got a really bad 6.2 detectability but who cares with this ship xD
Im guessing you mean on Northern waters but yeah Nothing I could do You get to sit in smoke and burn me down while my team does absolutely nothing useful.
Me vs A Yamato, GK, 2 Kansas', a Lightning and a Friesland
@@SpartanElite43 you said it all, i was afraid of that pyotr but the Russian Radar is meh, and i took care of that Z-23 fairly easly, and even through i was at 2k hp for most of that game i think i did pretty well, from what i've seen from my games in Friesland, being on the receiving end seems to be even worse than a Cleveland xD
The 100 mm guns on the Akizuki will Citadel this heap of crap. I will never buy this ship.
