It's super cute. The ones I had knew that we brought lettuce and vegetables home in plastic bags, which meant that they associated the sound of rustling plastic bags with food. Whenever they heard someone rustle a plastic bag anywhere, they'd start wheaking.
My thirty-year (so far!) journey with guinea pigs also began with a third-grade classroom piggie! I started reading up on them (and I brought him veggies every morning with the permission of the teacher) and begged my parents and a year later, I had my first piggie!
Hey mine too! Except... that teacher didn't do an ounce of research. Third grade really taught me the lesson 'you can really judge a person's character by how they treat animals.'

great video! but in my country, there are wild guineapigs called cuis, they get out to receive the sun each morning! my brother saw them while traveling at dawn. so cute!!.! 🥔 💗 🐹
I just love guinea pigs so much, they have such beautiful and docile personalities. They have so much love to give, they love everyone and anyone and best of all they have no ounce of aggression.
Thanks, Scott! Very informative and lots of fun. I LOVE my boys Teddy and Zen-Zen. I take great care of them. They're right around 5 1/2 years old and still going strong. I get them checked out by a vet every six months.
This video makes a well organized and detailed exposition on what cuys are and their history. As a Peruvian who loves them both as a source of food and companions, I approve of this. You have my gratitude.
Scotty I love your videos !! Keep up the great work . There aren’t allot of selfless caring people like you that devote so much time & effort to these cute sweet animals.
Thank you for this making this video. I have 3 piggies at home and I never knew their histories until today. Love them guinea pigs, they are so cute and help ease my depression.
Your Guinea Pig videos are my favourite! You’re my go-to whenever I have piggy related questions or just feel like seeing happy pigs. ☺️ Thank you for your great videos and the care and compassion you give to Guinea Pigs, and all animals ❤
This video was great. I learned a lot about guinea pigs. Thank you so much for taking the time to teach us all. Lots of love to you and all the piggies. Be well and stay safe.
I love and adore guinea pigs. I've had seven hamsters and 7 guinea pigs, wow. The wheeking was always great to hear when I got home from school. I was only ten and managed to tame a guinea pig. Sadly all my guinea pigs died when my sister fed them a toxic plant :(
I believe cavies are still found in the wild. The domesticated pig has been bred for so long, it probably explains why they can't really jump or climb. Also, I think it is ironic that these furry potatoes are found in the land where potatoes come from.
Love your videos... Wish you and Saskia would subtitle them so the information could get to more people... Specially here in México where they're so neglected
Great!!! You got the book I was going to send you by Edmunds Morales. I got it way back when I was in college when I was studying Anthopology. I found it fascinating and disturbing. It lead to me getting my 2nd guinea pig who ended up living 10 years and was semi free range. Named her Cuy but she wasn't a Cuy breed. Anyway glad you got the book and made the video!
I’m glad that you were respectful about the culture, I’m vegetarian and would never eat a Guinea pig but I can’t see how our culture can be outraged that another culture eats them, when our culture eats animals themselves.
My boyfriend has 4 guinea pigs, he's always had guinea pigs growing up. He's trained them to come when he calls them and they all share the same bed at night. ( the guinea pigs I mean ) I have my two puppies and as of two weeks ago a kitten.
Scotty this is the best video I've ever seen you do! I LOVE it! A mix of history, science, love, and information! Don't worry, I love your others too (especially how-to videos) 💛💛 Awesome job AGAIN!
You can eat a varried diet that includes meat, the important thing is to make sure you're getting you're meat from crualty free (and local if possible) places
@@ScottysAnimals fair enough. I dont like that things have to die for me to eat, but death is a part of life, weather its plants or animals (to be clear, in not saying that you shouldn't be vegan, i would absolutely be vegan if I could, and i respect the heck out of anyone who can stick to a vegan diet)
I was under the impression that there is still a breed of wild cuy that still lives in the Andes completely independent of people. I might be totally wrong though.
My auntie is from Peru and she's mentioned eating guinea pigs and how lambs are used as a fashion piece as well, they get snuggled up in the scarves 😂😂❤
vegetables are very good for a healthy diet, but, we still need meat to live, eating meat is important for your brain, we don't eat meat just for being bad, we need it, i recommend a balanced diet, eatinng, meat, eggs, vegetables, fruits and cereals
The healthiest diet is the Mediterranean diet because it takes from multiple food groups the vegetarian Is not as good but it’s still okay but the vegan diet is not a good diet because it cuts too many food groups out
Do your research, study after study shows that green vegetables mushrooms and other plants have chemical compounds that cure disease while meat, especially processed and grilled contain carcinogens and other cancer-causing compounds. Increasing vegetables and reducing meat is always healthy. Legumes also are a great source of protein and other disease-fighting compounds.
Used to breed them as a young teen. Got 50 cents per. Curious what they would taste like. Not curious enough to go to the trouble though. Most any meat is good though...cant see why they wouldn't be as well.
In the U S they are pets and we love them. All animals have feelings and deserve a good life. Meat is produced by force. Research proper nutrition to see it is unnecessary violence.
❤️ LOVE ❣️❣️❣️🥰🥰 Wow❣️ And, I do not think you made a mistake❣️ They went to happy homes and even if you feel that as many need homes, and it is not good practice typically, they received your love ❤️ 💗💗💗🥰🥰
This was the most educational video I ever seen today Scotty keep up the good work and as for guinea pig history of how I'm fall in love with those little buggers just like you it was in school a teacher of mine had a pet guinea pig I just thought he was the cutest little thing ever I kept bugging my mom for guinea pig up until the point she gave in and well we didn't know what the time we needed two guinea pigs so one didn't get lonely sadly I only had one guinea pig up until 6 years ago my last two were brothers furball and cuddles
4:39. Sorry but this isn’t a guinea pig. It is actually the c1585 ‘Ermine Portrait' attributed to William Segar of Elizabeth I of England (r. 1558-1603 CE). Nice material Scotty :) I have heard that the WHITE within guineapigs was not seen often, and was among laboratory ones, and 'they' have used fur colour to see how the guinea pigs gens spread all around the world. I wonder if that is true. I mean, looking at how many pigs get some white fur would tell them how the population spreads and breeds .

Guinea pigs: the food source that was so cute people made them pets.
I would of just felt too bad to eat them like how I feel bad for cows or lambs but I don't have them as pets.... YET haha😝
Europeans were probably like we have our own livestock lets keep these little guys as pets
same with cows, hores, chickens, and meny more xD
In Peru they still eat them

I’ve never had a Guinea pig but I think they’re adorable and love their little “weep weep weep” noises!
The Weep noise is actually called Wheaking, they make the noise to get attention or when food is heard. :)

They aren't wild. When domestic animals escape, they are called feral. Any actual wild cavies are different species from the domestic guinea pig.
@@TheWoollyFrog there is only one species! Several breeds though
