Hi Mike 👋 playing catch up again ⭐️ been getting camper van ready for M O T . 😀 which she PASSED. today with no advisory happy time a head or happy holidays 👍👍👍🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🚌🚌🚌
A year passes pretty quick, eh?
@@BritannicaRestorations time passing to quick 🤔 must be having to much fun
Great repair. Hope they have an enjoyable trip.
I hope so too
The hi, low range selector are similar with TDI ones, the difference is only ball joint connection. I've convert puma selector to TDI selector years ago. I can't find puma transfer box ratios code on the web due different stamping from TDI.
Only seen one Puma box here
@@BritannicaRestorations probably 1.211 ratios.
Good job Mike. They're lucky that you were available on their travels to get them sorted and on their way. Must have cost a couple of quid to get the Land Rover to Canada from Germany.
I think they said 2 or 3 thousand - but not sure if it was Euro or CAD - but I know it was roll on roll off as it came through Halifax
@@BritannicaRestorations Euro, CAD or pound, it's unfortunately out of my reach to justify bringing mine over for the Mike expertise. And it certainly could do with some. What's the rate for you and tool bag to make the trip to Cumbria (it's quite near Yorkshire if that makes it worthwhile 😉)
I reckon Mike, you need a holiday after all the work you have done lately. Come to Scotland for a few weeks, eh and could you bring your welder and some tools ...lol. Great channel Mike.😉😉😉😉
Isn't that called a busman's holiday?
LoL!
@@BritannicaRestorations Drat it Mike I didn't think you would have sussed out my cunning plan till you arrived at Edinburgh airport. Anyway the good news is I have fixed my oil leaks. Stuck a 3' by 2' plastic tray under my gearbox, and a 2' by 2' one under the engine. No more leaky oil on the road. Highly recommended.
Good video I wonder if you could help on my Land Rover Defender on the instrument panel there's a plastic sheet with copper strips running through it which the dashboard light bulbs go into do you know the name of the plastic sheet thanks Danny

Thank you Danny
I’ve heard the term before but don’t know what the difference is between a Defender and a Puma… do tell please.

so in theory if we mic the sleeve that's been crashed and machine a spacer same length for the middle set of bearing we could do away with the collapsible sleeve....make it a lot easier on a 300tdi box?
It would be a starting point - there are a lot of sleeves to get to correct preload on the bearings

@@BritannicaRestorations it should not be to hard to work out.... clamp the bearings up with a known spacer and measure the float of the gears with a dti and -0.002" for pre load like the input bearing. How would u do it Mike?
A selfish comment maybe. I was under the impression that you could not bring Defenders into Canada/US unless they are 25(??) yes old. Maybe there is a difference between import and bringing into the country but on a temporary basis?
"You can bring your vehicle into Canada temporarily as a visitor or temporary resident. Your vehicle doesn't have to meet Canadian standards and must be only for your own use."
correct
@@AnthonyTeasdale Thank you. Mike has mentioned in earlier videos about very expensive cleaning costs imposed at the port of entry. Do you know if this applies to vehicles brought in by visitors.
This Puma was not cleaned as they said it was not a commercial entry, but it was very clean anyway - it is always a gamble with Agriculture Canada
I have brought vehicles in private and commercially and 80% of the time they need cleaning - down to the man on the day that decides and if he needs a new deck, paid in brown envelopes ...
@@BritannicaRestorations Mike, thanks. Sadly, I am familiar with the brown envelope.
Whats a smoke test ?
Putting smoke and pressure into the box to check for leaks. Easy to see the smoke coming out of anything that needs sealing.
Correct - you can bench test for stupid leaks before fitting
