    I love watching someone take stuff apart knowing exactly what bolts need to come undone and in the correct order . Experience cannot be bought. I'd be taking photos of each bolt as it came out and recording what length bolt went where. That's why I love watching you work.

    If you are holiday with your Defender and develop a fault, where better for it to happen than in Sherbrooke 😊

    The first German pioneer in Québec was Hans Bernath, he would purchase a small two acres of land outside of the fortified village of Québec in 1664. Other Germans including soldiers settled in Nouvelle France during the 17th century.

    Yup, it's amazing how fast and confident you work when there's a good looking German lassie behind you. It almost looked like you knew what you were doing at one point, whipping stuff apart at breakneck speed! - LOL! - Can't wait for part 2. (Sie leisten hervorragende Arbeit, und nein, sie haben nicht über Sie gesprochen. Oder waren sie? ...LOL!)

    I was chatting to one of my contractors about his Puma defender, he told me that he’d been quoted over €5000 to fix his transmission issues, (no drive), I mentioned it to my local Landrover shop(not dealer), they sorted it for him for a few hundred quid, apparently the original output shaft is made of cheese😝. Contractor was glad he mentioned it to me.

    Brilliant video! I bet they were relieved to have found you.
    Curious what the 'lip' looks like, because too my untrained eye it looked fine, nice n tight!
    Next, how the heck do you get the new bush centred exactly right of the hole is not round?
    And, is the puma a 2.4 or the 2.2 transit van engine? Can you pull it apart while the customer is asleep? Pleassseee

    • @tonypacke6954
      @tonypacke6954 2 роки тому +1

      I believe on the customers truck it has the 2.4 as the later 2.2 engines were fitted with subtle changes such as "Defender" on the bonnet instead of Land Rover. I was told the Transit engines were slightly different to the stock Ford ones. Changes to seals to keep the water out were made, whether that is true or not I don't know.

    Nice video Mike. I'm sure it won't be too long before you have a MT82 stripped down. Maybe find out why they are so notchy going from 1st to 2nd. No-one else has ever managed to do so.

      @@BritannicaRestorations Yes I'd seen that previously. Unlike the Defender, the Mustang or the Transit gear lever is mounted semi indirectly, the Transit has a cable linkage. I think one of the reasons for the notchy change is because the gear lever is mounted directly on the box on the Defender and there is no extra play for some leeway during gear selection. Also the gearboxes for the Mustang were made in Hung Chang Province, the Defender boxes were made in Germany. The Mustang also had a dual-mass flywheel, something I'm glad JLR did not consider fitting to the Defender. If anyone has a similar problem the first thing I would do is to change the oil. The fill plug is not the gearbox level, which can also cause issues if it is overfilled. It just needs 2.2 litres to fill, don't bother trying any additives. You need Castrol Syntrans 75W-90 API GL-4 or equivalent. Do not use an API GL-5 oil, it will damage the synchro rings. Normal service gearbox oil change is 120,000 or 10 years. Make sure you do it long before that comes up!

    How easy was it to take the transfer box off of the gearbox? I have the whole assembly out of the vehicle and the transfer box doesn't seem to want to come off the gearbox. It's lose and has moved a tiny bit. I can see on yours there is a long stud at the bottom, so maybe this is whats hung up on mine?

    • @BritannicaRestorations
      @BritannicaRestorations  Рік тому +1

      Very easy to remove - make sure the linkages are not snagged up

      @@BritannicaRestorations Mine is off the vehicle. Nothing attached to it. It's only moved a mm or two, no more. I have taken out 4 bolts and 2 nuts. Not sure what else might be stopping it.

      If it is rusty then check to see if the gear has holes in it - looks like a classic case of the gearbox shaft running dry

    I know LR started using RTV instead of gaskets in some applications, Mike, but it seems to me that there is no way all that is factory. A Puma is what, 6 years old max? So, who's been in there before?

      It was bought new in 2009, but they had problems with the clutch, and I seem to recall when the transmission was removed, they tried to fix the transfer leak in Germany
