Hey! We are from Russia today - we were the first in our country to unpack and review this microphone RODE Wireless GO II. Support our video like, please))) Thank you very much
Thanks for checking out the Wireless GO II! Just a note on onboard audio monitoring with the Wireless GO II. If you use the USB-C output for audio transmission (e.g. to a USB-C or Lightning device), you can actually connect a set of headphones to the 3.5mm jack and monitor the audio! :)
Thank you for the tip! We will include this tidbit in the full product review. P.S. the Wireless Go II has been flawless in practice so far, aside from a couple user error mistakes. Great job with this mic system! 👏
My Rode Wireless Go is defective (the dB button doesn't work, can't change pad levels). I submitted a support ticket on your website but got no reply! Please help!!!
Damn guys it really just wasn’t possible to put a 3.5mm jack into the receiver? My fujifilm xt4 does not have a headphone jack any more I have to carry around a stupid usb type c dongle with me which will get lost 100% one of these days. I have the first wireless go and like the go 2 but the saramonic with the monitoring jack might be the winner here for me at least.
I noticed something interesting in another review of the Saramonic. In that review, they said that whether they did it on purpose or not, Saramonic had moved the bulk of the battery to the bottom of the transmitter units. The advantage to that is that it is no longer top-heavy, and when you clip it to the collar of a light t-shirt it no longer wants to flip upside down like it did in the past. I find that to be a problem with the first generation Rode Wireless Go. It is also quite top-heavy, which means it wants to flip over when you clip it to the collar of a thin shirt. I don't know if this new version of the Rode Wireless Go changed the design or whether it is still top heavy like the first generation. It is a small thing, but I often find that simple design features like that end up being of more use to me than fancy technical features. And a lot of companies ignore the simple things they could do to make their products more user friendly, such as just moving the battery so it is no longer top heavy.
Thank you very much for this comparison. You covered pretty much everything I wanted to know. Perhaps one thing I was curious about and which you didn't mention was how you felt about the different form factor. Just from looking at them in a video, the Rode strikes me as a relatively smaller, sleeker, thinner, and less obtrusive unit. The Saramonic just comes cross as a bit bulkier. I think it's thicker, right? And also longer? Though perhaps narrower. There's not a big difference, obviously, but I do wonder if in day-to-day use the smaller form factor of the Rode makes a difference, particularly when mounting the receivers on a GoPro or mirrorless camera. I already find that my Rode Wireless Go sticks out from the hot shoe on my mirrorless camera too far. It blocks access to the camera's viewfinder a little bit. If the Saramonic sticks out even farther, that could be an issue. I don't think the overall difference in feature sets matters much to me. I'm a casual user, and I would probably never take advantage of any of the fancier features of either model. I thought that being able to record onboard audio with the Rode could be a big advantage. But when you describe how it works in real terms, it's clear that I would never use it anyway. It wouldn't fit in with the way I use my current Rode and record audio for a casual vlog. I can see it being helpful and reassuring for a pro in a studio setting to have that onboard audio as a backup. But for wandering around outside and shooting fifty or sixty separate clips throughout a day, I don't see that safety track or the onboard recording being of much use. At least not to me. So the fact that the Rode has this feature and the Saramonic lacks it doesn't matter to me. There are, however, a couple of features that jump out at me. The fact that the Rode can plug directly into a computer seems like a notable advantage. I believe it can also plug directly into any smartphone in the same way. If the Saramonic can't do that, that's a big win for the Rode. Even I would use that capability from time to time, I'm sure. However, the headphone jack on the Saramonic might be even more useful. I didn't realize that the Saramonic had a headphone jack built into it. But I don't know how big an advantage this really is, because that depends on whether the headphone jack also works in video playback. You mentioned using the headphone jack to monitor audio input while shooting video. But I can't think of many situations where I would actually do that. But I often want to check the audio AFTER I've recorded something. Right now, I do that just by holding the GoPro to my ear and listening to playback on that tiny speaker. I would love to be able to listen to the audio through headphones while playing back the video on a GoPro or on a mirrorless camera. THAT would be a big win for the Saramonic. I tried to find this information in other reviews online, but I haven't found anyone that mentions it yet. Do you know if the headphone jack works during video playback (and not just while recording)? I don't know if the charging case of the Saramonic is preferable to just using USB-C cables with the Rode. My gut says that I just like to keep things simple and use separate cables. I have tons of USB charging ports, so plugging in three cables at the same time is no problem. I like the idea of cases, but now you have to carry around that larger case, and who knows how durable or reliable it will turn out to be over time? I'm also not sure about the lack of a viewscreen on the Rode's microphone transmitters. My current Rode Wireless Go doesn't have an LCD screen either, and I had never even thought about it. There's no information about its settings that I actually need other than whether it is charged and connected to the receiver. And I can see that with the two blue lights. Other than that, I don't feel like I was missing any technical feedback. So I'm not sure what the screen on the Saramonic transmitters would be telling me that I need to know. I think I would just end up turning it off permanently because I wouldn't want that bright light on the transmitter. It would just make it more visible when I want it to be hidden. And maybe the LCD screen reduces battery life? But having said all that, my decision, based on your video review would be an easy one. Maybe it's just me and how I listened to the audio (through good earbuds plugged into a smartphone), but I FAR, FAR preferred the audio quality from the Rode. I'm definitely not an audiophile, but I heard a distinct difference, and the Rode sounded much better than the Saramonic to my ears. It wasn't even a question. The audio from the Saramonic just sounded muffled and muddy to me. The Rode sounded sharp and crisp and clear by comparison. The Rode also seemed to deal with the background noise of traffic, the car engine, and restaurant chatter much better. It isolated your voices nicely and kept just enough of the ambient noise to provide atmosphere. The Saramonic's background noise levels struck me as much too loud. There was real competition between your voices and that of the background noise. They didn't sound separated. Also, the Saramonic seemed to pick up vibrations. I'll have to listen again, but even the sound of Suzi's footsteps seemed to carry through the Saramonic, like the thumping vibration of a giant's footsteps. And the Saramonic seemed to pick up a low rumbling roar or distortion from the vibration of the car. The Rode didn't exhibit any of that according to my ears. I haven't looked at any of the other comments yet, so I don't know if I'm alone in preferring the sound from the Rode. I'll check and see after I post this comment. Perhaps it's a just a personal preference for me and nothing to do with actual audio quality. That's entirely possible. 🙂 But for me, it was the Rode all the way. And there is the possibility that all the extras you get with the Saramonic reduce the quality of the units themselves. With the Rode, you don't get LCD screens, a charging case, and lavalier mics in the box, but maybe the money that was saved by not supplying those went into higher quality components in the Rode receiver and transmitters themselves. Of course, I don't know that, but it's just a thought. One last thought: the difference in transmission distance also doesn't matter to me. It probably wouldn't matter to most people. I would never get 100 meters away from my camera let alone 200 meters. But there is the question of whether the Rode's 200-meter range means that the connection is much stronger at closer distances, particularly if your body or an object is blocking line of sight. Again, I don't really know. It's just a thought. 🙂 Thanks again for doing this comparison. It helped me a lot. 💜👍
I'd be interested in hearing each with lav mics plugged in. That's how I'd typically use. The rode sounds a little better to me with the transmitter mic, but perhaps with wired lavs they'd sound more equivalent.
We didn't test with lavs because the Rode doesn't come with them at this price point. However, we'll be doing a video soon comparing different lav mics with the wireless systems.
@@Gemini_Connect the rode lav mics are the ONLY thing keeping me from buying this system over the Saramonic. It makes an otherwise very affordable setup almost double in price.
@@HotButteryRolls Yes. In fact, for an apples to apples value comparison, I would like to hear the difference between the Rode without lav mics against the Blink with lav mics.
Congratulations on the great review. Showing the pros and cons of the microphones clarifies the person who is interested in buying a wireless microphone.
Personally I thought the Saramonic sounded so much better; what gain settings did you have on both during testing? Excellent video by the way 😎; I have been using a Movo dual transmitter set up but fried one of them in the sun 😆. So I’m shopping around haha!
I went with the rode wireless go 2. I am streaming my wedding so using it as an audio in in my streaming setup is a must. They have been great out of the box, the nice thing is they are paired out of the box. All you need to do is just charge them and they work. Great review, i wish you would have had a little more of a satesfying conclusion. You can say choose which product best suites your needs for any comparison for any product. It would have been great to hear "X is our preferred choice for reason Y".
We did a 6 months later update video and ended up concluding that Rode has been our long-term choice. It offers the best sound quality and overall reliability, especially when paired with the third party charging case.
I use the Saramonic with my audio interface, and it’s fine for the computer. And if I wanna record with it, I just connected to the zoom H1n, problem solved. Both are small enough to put in your pocket. 👍🏾
Thank you for making this comparison. In the beginning i was gonna get the rode wireless mic. Over the last few months i saw reviews on saramonic 500 pro. That changed my mine. I was disappointed rode didn’t make a rechargeable case like saramonic. I think saramonic had better selling points.
Great comparison video, thank you! I noticed the difference in the audio quality, Rode is a bit more dynamic, the lows came through better and it appeared there was less noise. But to be honest, I agree with you that they are just about the same. I purchased the Saramonic system and it is best bang for the buck! Getting the charging case and the included lav mics was the step above the Rode system. Also, having the screens on the the transmitters and receiver are very helpful. I also like the form factor of the Saramonic transmitters. Can't believe how light they are!
Thank you so much for this review! It made me decide. It is a HUGE difference in background sound, and Rode is clearly blocking out more. For my use in my psychologist job that is important, so again - thanks! 🙏🏼
the headphones i'm using rn are pretty janky so that might be a factor but the sound quality on the Rode was heaps better for me when yall did the test in the car i think the Rode sounds like the better one but the charging case for the Saramonic is a big selling point
Hi guys, where is the Saramonic Blink 500 Pro made and who owns the company? We know rode is Australian. If it's Chinese I just wasted my time watching this video. All Chinese products are out as far as most westerners think.
great review thanks, with a good headphone system i could hear differences in the sound, rodes seem to be more precise and less background noise. in the car, while you're driving i could hear the tires on the road with the saramonic and not with the rode which is for me a lot better since i mainly want the voices to be heard and the noise around. i have the rodes and to let you know, it doesn't work with the lumix G7 lots of interference, may be it's the only camera it doesn't work with but it's good to know, rode knows about this and so far they don't have a solution , it's the way the lumix g7 is built. i finally succeed in getting rid of the interfernce by wrapping the receiver in aluminium foil creating a shield. to conclude i find the sound of the rode a lot better and i listenend to your video with very good headphones and studio pro quality system . thanks a lot for this review
Nice video....I have tried both with an Insta360 one R and DJI Osmo Action....both worked great and both have pluses and minuses. I agree with you on all your points. I ended up keeping the Rode Wireless Go II over the Blink 500 Po. For me the locking dead cats and back up audit were more important than the charging case. I can store my lav mics in the Rode bag I can’t store them in the Blink’s case. Quality of sound was about the same for me with both. Again nice video. Thanks!
Loved your video ! Did you know that if you add "00:00 Begin"as the first line in your chapters list (and all times need to be 4 digits) , your video will show all the chapter breaks in the video :) Hope that is useful to you 😎
At 299 the safety track on the Rode seems to me to be a huge reason to go that way. I just love having a safety track, it has saved my recordings on more than one occasion on other recorders.
I enjoyed your review. One point, I think you meant the Rode Wireless Go records 24 hours COMPRESSED and 7 hours UNCOMPRESSED. Well done in the comparisons though. Phone apps WILL be essential to really set the Go free.
I like the insurance of recording internally in case there is a signal problem and its like having a backup. If doing paid work, it helps to have piece of mind.
When you have the go2 in your hands your voice is tense and stresses sounding. As soon as you switch to the saramonic your voice and speaking pattern became relaxed and "bubbly" again. ( bubbly might not be the best word). Just a funny observation. 😃
Enjoyed this and your first video on the Go II. I have purchased the Go II - but I would like an experts opinion on what are the best Gain Control settings with the Hero 9 (which I also use). Also the Media mod has Standard and Powered Mic (both with increased 20db options) and if I use the Standard mic options with the Wireless Go (mistake....) everything worked fine! I was using a Smartlav+ before I purchased the Wireless Rodes. At the moment I do not bother with the Fine Gain Control - because I am a real beginner with audio. Thanks. Keep up the good work.
We're not audio experts, but in our research on gain control, it seems there is not a universal setting. It really depends on the camera you're using, the mic placement on your subject, and your subject's noise range. For someone like me (Suzi), the gain would likely need to be increased because I have a softer voice, but on Martin, the gain would need to be lowered because he has a naturally louder voice. So it takes some experimenting to get the gain right in camera, but this is also a good reason to enable the Safety Channel to cover your bases. For the GoPro Media Mod, choose Powered Mic when using wireless mic systems, since they are battery-powered. For the Smartlav+, note that it is a TRRS mic so it is made to be used with smartphones, not cameras like the GoPro.
@@Gemini_Connect Thankyou for your prompt reply. I probably won’t use the Lav+ anymore - I use the SC3 cable - which I use on the Zoom H1n - or did use! Yes, I make videos when cycling with my wife - and she is quieter ( and softer) when being recorded. Looks like more experimentation- Fairlight in Resolve 17 helps. Just a steep learning curve....
Thanks. As for me Rode is much better in noisy environment and also heard in Saramonic steps and scratches of clothes. Both are still not ideal and they might think of noise canceling algorithms using built-in microphone in addition to plugged in one..
@@kenspo hey thanks for your reply! I was in such a rush, anyway I got the Saramonic and I dont regret it, I love the sound quality especially after a bit of tweaking in Adobe premiere ! Thanks for you answer!!!
17:27 Saramonic has way better sound but you can also hear a lot of people around. At 17:30 you don't hear a lot of people around but the Rode Wireless has a weaker sound.
Nice detailed comparison review. The sound quality is not that different. Rode looks smaller by comparison & I like that the wind muff is more secure. For now I'm leaning toward the Rode. Thx for the review.
I was shocked by how close the sound quality was -- typically that's the big deal-breaker between mic systems. I've been using Rode products for a long time now and they always work well and hold up over time, so they have the brand reputation on their side too.
Great video. I was so close to going with the Blink for dual. That’s all the Rode was missing. I like the Rode’s ability to be used with their handheld mic contraption. That’s huge. Only $29, but huge. And they’ll always have more ideas and gadgets.
I have made my choice thanks to this video. The clear advantage being on board recording. The charging case is a strong feature. I would rather get two additional audio sources without sacrificing one. Thanks for clarifying. I learned my lesson long ago about plugging things into an action cam... avoid it.
I recently bought the wireless go pro,but as there is only 1 microphone,is there any way I can buy another wireless go pro and pair the two microphones together ? Any help would be much appreciated? If not I’ll just have to buy the wireless go pro 11
The pc test was good to add because it sounded clear. I was a bit concerned about the quality since you can hear audio noise in this video so I guess is the camera pre-amps.
Thank you for this comparison review! I have been waiting for this exact info and I was pretty sure it was you who would be doing it. May I ask why you do not seem to always use deadcats on the Rode transmitters? I would think the system would get more consistent audio signals when those are installed.
You're welcome. It's because deadcats muffle the sound a bit and on the saramonic they dislodge so easily that we already lost them so we can't make a fair comparison with them on.
I think you missed the battery life of both of the systems! 🤭 but I give it to you guys, it’s overwhelming quality and introduction and comprehensive compassion between them both
I didn't hear much audio quality difference and I imagine once you edit in production they would both sound good. The problem is each have things I really want. The Rode has the more secure wind sock; while the Saramonic has the onboard screen. Not sure which I'd miss more. The charging case is nice if you are using the mics a lot; but I'm not sure at this time that's a factor for me. I could easily charge them at home one at a time. And the case probably adds some bulk to my travel backpack. The other differences you mentioned for each are nice but I'm not sure they are the biggest factors. What do you think? AND, which are you using now as your go to dual wireless mic set?
I agree with you that it's a tossup -- Rode offers unique features that the Saramonic doesn't, and vice-versa. In a way, it's a good thing because there's not a clear winner and there's room for both brand and products to co-exist. We have 2 other wireless mic systems we're testing -- the Hollyland Lark 150 and the Comica Boom XU. Those comparison videos will be coming out soon. So for us, it's even harder to pick a winner at the moment, but we'll keep you posted. As for the Rode vs Saramonic...I feel like both are solid choices and you can't go wrong with either.
Thanks for the video. But I want to know that according to you which mic has better audio quality as compared to others.. And which mic is better is terms of noise cancellation?
Just bought a barely used Blink B2 kit for £125 ($170). Not even a fair contest at this price tbh. Factor in that the Rode looks like a tic tac dipsenser and it's game over...
Thanks for the comparison of the two. Still not sure which is best for my utilization. You did say you couldn't connect the Saramonic to a computer to do voice over. Couldn't you though connect it through the 3.5mm cable to a mic input on the computer and record voiceover that way?
@@Gemini_Connect I actually bought these and they arrived today. Amazon had an additional coupon for $30 off. I tried doing what I said and it was pretty bad. It worked, but I suspect the audio processing of the mic input on my MacBook Pro isn't great. They sound great when used directly on the camera, but not so great when connecting to the computer. Disappointing, but I have a Yeti I will continue to use for voice overs.
Rode is better because you can use in computer as your microphone specially when you do zoom meeting but I really love it seramonic wireless microphone specially for Android phone keep safe and more power
Outdoor the rode sounded better, wind taking in account. Inside the rode sounded too compressed and very focused on the wearer the saramonic outside was picking up everything same inside it was hearing the whole restaurant which is great if you want to get the atmosphere too not just the vocal. Saramonic sound could use some eq tuning in post. Still saramonic wins for me even if it has 2 flaws compared to the rode. Flaw 1. It hears everything. Flaw 2. Wind muffs are muffed up. Bonus Flaw. All units not being usb-c.
Does your rode go 2 cutout when line of sight is lost (body turned away)? Mine does, but only for the second transmitter. Pretty much makes it useless for my needs, as I can't alway keep line of sight, as my talent is constantly twisting and turning while playing disc golf.
Hi! Not sure if its just an impression of mine but seems like the saramonic suffers a bit more to handle the background noise (restaurant footage) than rode. Question: It happens even if you use the wired mic? Not willing to spend so much buying the rode + wired mics to plug in.
Hi! What about sound quality with lavalier microphone plugged in? Is there any difference in sound? Is Saramonic Blink 500 Pro 24-bit 48KHz? How about latency, is Saramonic better or same as Rode (~5ms if I recall correctly)?
Great review and nice that it compares the 2 microphones I'm trying to decide between. On paper it seems like the Rode would win because you have a backup if you loose connection but I don't know how often that happens. I can't see a scenario where I would be more than 15 or 20 feet from the camera/receiver.
It's a tough call. My biggest gripe with the Rode is needing to use the desktop computer app to access a lot of features including the internal recording. But the Saramonic doesn't offer any built in recording at all...really tough choice.
@@Gemini_Connect Peace & Love, Excuse My Ignorance But What Do You Mean By “Internal Recording,” What Is The Benefit Of Having This Feature In A Wireless Mic System?!?!!? Thanks For Reading. Peace & Love!!!
I just received both systems and I'm keeping the Rode. The saramonic had a noticeable noise, that I didn't get with the Rode..And knowing that the receivers have a backup of the recording is very nice..They're not perfect yet as they still miss a recording here and there, hopefully this is fixed very soon..Thanks for a good review :)
are you saying the Rode is also missing a few recordings? How is that possible with back up on the mics itself. Sorry I am confused. Can you please elaborate how that could have happen. Aren't the Rode mics recording all the time ones you start your filming session? Or are they properly controlled on and off by the trigger at the camera and/or recording button on our smartphone and this sometimes doesn't communicate properly..
in my listening environment Mac Mini, with studio headphones, the saramonic seemed to have significantly more low-end background noise. The Rode was able to focus much better on the voices while filtering out the thunderous low background tones that the saramonic picked up.
I am still confused about which one to get. The other review says that Saramonic can be automatically connected through the case. I have some issues with other mic connecting via Bluetooth so hard to find out if they are connected already. I just thinking that rode mic might be hard to connect too? So who among you here bought the Rode and Saramonic? I think most comments go to Rode Mic?
is there any groundloop issues for the rode wireless go 2? i've never tried usb c so, I'm just curious about the quality in the receiver for android. :)
I mean... Everything else is informative but the sound test is biased af. For starters clipping those massive receivers to your collar when you vlog looks ridiculous. The obvious choice is to clip those lav mics that are included with the saramonic and clip the receiver to a belt or waistband. The saramonic sounds amazing with the lav mics and it's really built for that usage. Who clips those receivers on?? It totally ruins the vlog experience and make the whole thing look extremely staged and not spontaneous at all. Jeez.
Unlike the Saramonic, the Rode Wireless Go 2 did not come with lav mics at the time (it can now, but for an added cost; Saramonic includes them at no extra charge), thus it seemed an unfair comparison .
@@Gemini_Connect No, an unfair comparison is neutering what comes included with the Saramonic and reducing the comparison to the bottom denominator. If you're comparing the Rode Video Micro to the Deity D4 Duo, would you just compare the sound quality of the front mic and not show the back mic at all? And have the audacity to call that a fair review? If Rode chose to not include the lav mic and to force it's users to look like idiots while recording, then it's Rode's fault. The least you could have done was to show sound quality of the lav mic to present the whole picture. You did that "the result may surprise you" thing in the beginning, but this biased review is not surprising at all. Judging by how often Rode's official account comments on your videos, it's clear who you answer to. Lame. 🙄

Thanks again for doing this comparison.
Wow! EXACTLY what I was looking for + bite sized explanation! THANK YOU!
Thank you for this review!! I've been waiting for someone to compare the two.
You're welcome! Thank you for watching.
@@Gemini_Connect Awesome! Thanks.
Awesome video! Thanks for helping us make this decision. I wish you both more success!
Once again a fantastic review. Wow you are becoming my go to source for outdoor Audio / Video. Keep up the good work. Cheers Dave.
Thank you Dave! Glad you enjoyed the video.
Both are amazing microphone mam..I love it
Agreed! It's hard to choose one over the other.
@@Gemini_Connect ya
I hope RODE are the best for vlogger's.
Thank you for this comment. I was feeling very confused between them.
@@robertasiqueira6169 me too🤣
great test.. I ended up going with the picomic for my first wireless mic system.. I will say that saramonic charging case is really awesome
I have to say, the saramonic while walking next to traffic, while the traffic was loud, your vocals came through very clear. Very nice.
It's a great mic system 👌
Another good and helpful video! Thanks! Just got my Rode Wireless Go II last week :-) It’s my Go II recording system ;-)
Nice, hope you enjoy it! 🙂
Found this after I bought my Rode 2. Glad I made a decent choice.
Best review on UA-cam! Great content had to click that subscribe button!! ✅🔥🔥
Much appreciated 🙏☺
Great comparison video, thank you! I noticed the difference in the audio quality, Rode is a bit more dynamic, the lows came through better and it appeared there was less noise. But to be honest, I agree with you that they are just about the same. I purchased the Saramonic system and it is best bang for the buck! Getting the charging case and the included lav mics was the step above the Rode system. Also, having the screens on the the transmitters and receiver are very helpful. I also like the form factor of the Saramonic transmitters. Can't believe how light they are!
Saramonic is a solid choice, especially with that charger built into the case 👌
Hows the noise floor on the saramonic? Is it better with the included lav?
Thank you so much for this review! It made me decide. It is a HUGE difference in background sound, and Rode is clearly blocking out more. For my use in my psychologist job that is important, so again - thanks! 🙏🏼
Thanks a lot! It was pleasant to watch. Huge dose of knowledge as well ❤️
You have very professional voice! Liked and subscribed!!
Thank you so much! Glad to have you here 🙂
I heard both and I think the rode has the better sound. It’s more pleasing and clear to the ear imo
Rode has always had great sound 👌😀
Thanks for the review... really helpful... i kinda like the crispness of saramonic pro... and its additional feafures
Thank you so much for this videos I was looking for an alternative to the Rode mic.
the headphones i'm using rn are pretty janky so that might be a factor but the sound quality on the Rode was heaps better for me when yall did the test in the car
i think the Rode sounds like the better one but the charging case for the Saramonic is a big selling point
I noticed the same. The Sarmonic sound had a lot of bass thumping along in the early clip in the car.
Hi guys, where is the Saramonic Blink 500 Pro made and who owns the company? We know rode is Australian. If it's Chinese I just wasted my time watching this video. All Chinese products are out as far as most westerners think.
I believe Saramonic is a Chinese company, but not 100% sure. They have offices worldwide, including a USA branch.
great review thanks, with a good headphone system i could hear differences in the sound, rodes seem to be more precise and less background noise.
in the car, while you're driving i could hear the tires on the road with the saramonic and not with the rode which is for me a lot better since i mainly want the voices to be heard and the noise around.
i have the rodes and to let you know, it doesn't work with the lumix G7 lots of interference, may be it's the only camera it doesn't work with but it's good to know, rode knows about this and so far they don't have a solution , it's the way the lumix g7 is built. i finally succeed in getting rid of the interfernce by wrapping the receiver in aluminium foil creating a shield.
to conclude i find the sound of the rode a lot better and i listenend to your video with very good headphones and studio pro quality system . thanks a lot for this review
Also keep in mind that audio editing could alter the mic sound quality as well. Thanks for watching!
So rode is the best choice right?
Nice video....I have tried both with an Insta360 one R and DJI Osmo Action....both worked great and both have pluses and minuses. I agree with you on all your points. I ended up keeping the Rode Wireless Go II over the Blink 500 Po. For me the locking dead cats and back up audit were more important than the charging case. I can store my lav mics in the Rode bag I can’t store them in the Blink’s case. Quality of sound was about the same for me with both. Again nice video. Thanks!
Completely agree. Those are the 2 features that have us reaching for the Rode more often than not these days. Thank you for watching!
Great information. Thanks a lot!
Got holyland lark… that thing always drain battery for some reason when on the charging case.. wonder if it’s meant to be plugged in all the time
I have that problem on occasion too.
Loved your video !
Did you know that if you add "00:00 Begin"as the first line in your chapters list (and all times need to be 4 digits) , your video will show all the chapter breaks in the video :) Hope that is useful to you 😎
I normally do that, but looks like I forgot. Fixed -- thanks for the heads up!
At 299 the safety track on the Rode seems to me to be a huge reason to go that way. I just love having a safety track, it has saved my recordings on more than one occasion on other recorders.
Peace & Love,
Excuse My Ignorance But What Is A Safety Track?!?!!?
Peace & Love!!!
4:30 Correction: Ride saves 24 hrs of comprised audio and 7 hours of uncompressed audio! Onboard
I enjoyed your review. One point, I think you meant the Rode Wireless Go records 24 hours COMPRESSED and 7 hours UNCOMPRESSED. Well done in the comparisons though. Phone apps WILL be essential to really set the Go free.
Yes, you're right--thanks for the correction.
I like the insurance of recording internally in case there is a signal problem and its like having a backup. If doing paid work, it helps to have piece of mind.
I agree 100%. When working on a paid job, I would rely on the Rode with its internal recording feature.
Thanks guys 😊👍
I have the blink 500 pro. Love it
It's a fantastic mic system. In some ways, it's even better than Rode.
once you said " you cannot connect the saramonic to usb," Im going with rode lol.... thanks for the awesome review!!
I was leaning towards Saramonic and the charging case, included lav mics and the ability to adjust things from the receiver are the tipping points.
Those are definitely some good benefits to the Saramonic. The charging case is the most important feature for me.
I love my Blink 500 Pro 👍🏻😀
@@kenspo hey there , hope you're well , I have a question were you able to connect the saramonic straight into your pc and record ?
@@Triptunee I havent tested that my self, but I know people who have done it..so would guess so :) sorry I couldnt be more heplful then that!
I've been using Rode products for a long time now and they always work well and hold up over time, so they have the brand reputation on their side too.
i buy over mic sistems
Great video. I was so close to going with the Blink for dual. That’s all the Rode was missing. I like the Rode’s ability to be used with their handheld mic contraption. That’s huge. Only $29, but huge. And they’ll always have more ideas and gadgets.
Rode is what we have been using more often these days thanks to their secure windmuffs and overall consistent reliability.
Blink Handle cost $60 but it is better due to battery inside and much better build quality!
The GoPro 9 internal microphones can do a better job. True
Lol
I have made my choice thanks to this video. The clear advantage being on board recording. The charging case is a strong feature. I would rather get two additional audio sources without sacrificing one. Thanks for clarifying. I learned my lesson long ago about plugging things into an action cam... avoid it.
How do you like your mic after using it? I need to decide…
Yeah, the camera preamps can definitely affect sound. Same with post production, which wasn't done on any of the audio samples.
4:37 you stated 24 hrs uncompressed audio and 7 hours compressed audio, its the opposite.
That caught my ear as well…I was confused why it would be able to record more uncompressed audio than compressed….
Thanx!
correction on storage: it should be "recording over 24 hours of compressed audio or 7 hours of uncompressed audio each." (4:20)
Thank you for this comparison review!
@@Gemini_Connect I'm grateful for your reply. Your channel has been key to helping me get started!
I'm not sure why but the Rode always seems a tad muffled to me versus other wireless units.
I wish best buy would get the Rode wireless go 2 in stock. I didn't know about the laptop function.
Ooh It's so difficult choice
I think the Rode sounded much better, but handling with the Saramonic is much easier (bcz the case).
Rode is Australian made, Saramonic is made in China.
Indeed.
If the Rode had a headphone jack l would go Rode but it doesn't. Rode you just lost a customer.
Thanks for the video.
But I want to know that according to you which mic has better audio quality as compared to others..
And which mic is better is terms of noise cancellation?
I believe the Rode has better overall quality.
I'm not able to connect using their mobile phone app using a usb-c to lightening cable. anyone have a similar issue?
The Rode Central app? Try updating the firmware of the receiver (connect to a laptop to do that).
Battery saramonic charger box lousy sometimes charge the receiver half way....i saw that happen in this video too.
Just bought a barely used Blink B2 kit for £125 ($170). Not even a fair contest at this price tbh. Factor in that the Rode looks like a tic tac dipsenser and it's game over...
Wow, that's a great deal 👏
@@Gemini_Connect it is, and great review btw :)
Love seeing another female in this space!! Thanks for giving the examples of what they sound like. Super helpful!
You're so welcome! I try to always include sample footage 😊 Thank you for watching Amanda 🙏
What is the humming sound with the saramonic blink 500
Thanks for the comparison of the two. Still not sure which is best for my utilization. You did say you couldn't connect the Saramonic to a computer to do voice over. Couldn't you though connect it through the 3.5mm cable to a mic input on the computer and record voiceover that way?
That sounds reasonable, but I havent tried doing that to verify if it works.
This is the review that i was waiting for #ThanlYou #YouDoneNiceLy❤️
Hope you enjoyed it! 😀
Rode is better because you can use in computer as your microphone specially when you do zoom meeting but I really love it seramonic wireless microphone specially for Android phone keep safe and more power
I think I’d have to go with the for it’s onboard audio. You barely get that in professional systems
Yeah, that is a HUGE perk, especially when working on paid client videos.
Came here to make sure My purchase was the best decision. YEP! I’m happy I got the Rode 2 😄
Perfect job
Hi! Not sure if its just an impression of mine but seems like the saramonic suffers a bit more to handle the background noise (restaurant footage) than rode.
Question:
It happens even if you use the wired mic? Not willing to spend so much buying the rode + wired mics to plug in.
The sound quality when using a wired mic depends on the quality of the wired mic that you're using. Generally, you should get better sound quality.
Nice review - I still will not buy either one - both pick up to much background noise
To be fair, using a wired lav mic would likely reduce the background noise better, plus doing some audio editing in post.
Your review is very useful for me to decide which one is suitable for me. Thank you for your good review. Have a nice day!
The recorder feature is the main reason I went with the Rode
Hi! What about sound quality with lavalier microphone plugged in? Is there any difference in sound?
Is Saramonic Blink 500 Pro 24-bit 48KHz?
How about latency, is Saramonic better or same as Rode (~5ms if I recall correctly)?
Thank you
Great review and nice that it compares the 2 microphones I'm trying to decide between.
@@Gemini_Connect Peace & Love,
Excuse My Ignorance But What Do You Mean By “Internal Recording,” What Is The Benefit Of Having This Feature In A Wireless Mic System?!?!!? Thanks For Reading.
Peace & Love!!!
I just received both systems and I'm keeping the Rode. The saramonic had a noticeable noise, that I didn't get with the Rode..And knowing that the receivers have a backup of the recording is very nice..They're not perfect yet as they still miss a recording here and there, hopefully this is fixed very soon..Thanks for a good review :)
Agreed on both fronts--Rode still has the edge.
are you saying the Rode is also missing a few recordings? How is that possible with back up on the mics itself. Sorry I am confused. Can you please elaborate how that could have happen. Aren't the Rode mics recording all the time ones you start your filming session? Or are they properly controlled on and off by the trigger at the camera and/or recording button on our smartphone and this sometimes doesn't communicate properly..
in my listening environment Mac Mini, with studio headphones, the saramonic seemed to have significantly more low-end background noise. The Rode was able to focus much better on the voices while filtering out the thunderous low background tones that the saramonic picked up.
Thank you for a detailed review. You've made it real easy for me to pick one. And i'll be going with the Saramonic.
(Fingers crossed)🙂
Meh, I'm shit with computers so it's the saramonic for me, looks better than the gos too. Go2 looks just as archaic as the og go did.
Both mics pair to cameras via a mic cable -- there's no Bluetooth connectivity.
How do you feel now after you've been using them for a while?
Long term, Rode has been our go-to mic and we're not disappointed. 6 month review of the Rode - ua-cam.com/video/BqDAAzW4Lfg/v-deo.html
Too bad sarasonic don't let you hear the other mic far away through the headphone monitoring jack. Or do it
Yaay I was waiting for this drop...I mentioned it right away when they dropped the new rhode mics
Hope you enjoyed it!
Will these work with iPhone recordings for UA-cam or do I need a specific app?
No app needed. Sound records directly to your device.
is there any groundloop issues for the rode wireless go 2?
i've never tried usb c so, I'm just curious about the quality in the receiver for android. :)
Excellent video! Thank you very much!
Lame. 🙄
@@mikezhou8408 if you don't like it, move along sir. Plenty of other reviews out there to float your boat.
Very nice and helpful one question which one you use for your vlogs between these two ?
Several months later, and the Rode has been our go-to for vlogging. We use it ALL the time.
