I am a pilot but have always been drawn to trucks in a way that I cannot explain. I feel it in my core, and I can no longer ignore it. My wife knows how I feel and she told me to go ahead and take those Class A lessons. When I sat behind the wheel it felt every bit as good as I imagined since a kid it would feel. I put in my notice with my current flying job, and this January I will be finished and off to a new career. This is something that I am so excited about I really can't explain the feeling, but I just know that it feels right.
Way to go Shelby y’all should of watched a few of her videos to see some of the stuff she has done to other truckers and the heart that she has. If I was younger I would work for her in a second, go Shelby
Shelby, your closing statement of, “Life outside the truck is important to you,” is such an important issue in any industry. I’m retired from Commercial Carpentry and remember sitting in a Safety Meeting and bringing up the issue of excessive prolonged overtime and how it effected us workers outside the job site, in our homes, on the drive to and from the job site, and fatigue at work; where safety concerns for the Company stopped at the door we exited from. Thank you for recognizing such issues for your drivers. Best wishes for your days ahead.
One thing she said during the interview got me. I'll paraphrase but "driving clears my head." That's the 100% truth, if you haven't driven for a paycheck you won't know, but it's true.
This was great. She is extremely grounded and professional. I love that she loves what she does. My favorite part of this interview was her view on appreciating each other as truckers and supporters of the industry. Keep on truckin Shelby!! You're the bombdiggity!
Even though this is 2 years ago, I find you to be a great resource. I have watched serveral of your vlogs and have gained from each one. You are very encouraging and enlightening. Im 45 and just got my cdp. I get behind the wheel to learn to drive in 2 weeks. Thanks so much Shelby!
you guys couldnt have picked a better guest for the show love her channel for her age and years on the road she has it together im around 26 years on the road dry van reefer flat bed stepdeck and cattle pod so to you young lady keep on truckin and take care
WOW i follow Shelby on her Utube channel and this interview gave folks a better view of what she went through to get where she is today ! I hope you have her back for another !!!!
That was a great interview, interesting to hear about the experiences of the trucking industry from a womans point of view as us men have been the dominant group running trucks for a long time, so need to embrace the new generation and part of that is getting women trained up to feel comfortable driving and dealing with the industry
Want to SAY THIS WAS SO SURPRISE OF THIS little lady with a Big smile of joy to tell her story and still smile through the interview. I say if she can do it, I can too. Now, I want to do this and be able to Have a smile while I am telling my TRUCKING STORY. ONE DAY, I do have a Learning Disability That I know but am determined Be an overcomes with The LORD ON MY SIDE. PRAY for me, As I pray for you all to Continue this show.
Shelby, you remind me so much of Angelica Larson. A small package that doesn't let anything stop her in the trucking world too. I'm sure you have seen her UA-cam channel too... She also has the same positive attitude and learning desire too. She may actually be smaller than Shelby, but she does low-boys with wide and oversized loads on them too. It amazes me how she can handle the large equipment, but like Shelby says, its more like finesse than muscle.
Woww, Shelby is AMAZING, i am soo proud of her and to hear her story and all shes been thru and to know its real cuase im going thru all shes said, and as a matter of facts i am missing fingers and literally had broke both my hands. I lost everything couldnt even feed myself starving without no family to help me. And you know what i realized, that i could drive a truck and get on my feet again. Came to this amazing country 4 years ago started working doing all i could to do better, and got on with a great company gave it my all and more. They trained me to get my CDL A did all types of jobs in the company and now im a Company Driver. Wow God bless America. 🇺🇸🇵🇷💪🏼😎
As a driver myself she's right it does come with challenges. Proud and rewarding job though. I've had a the opportunity to do reefer, dry van, a couple flatbed loads, port containers, and now hazmat tanker. I've been pulling fuel tankers now for all 4 years hauling aviation fuel. Jet-A to be more specific.
But loved the interview I know it put a big big smile on our face and made us all driver s felt so appreciated from u and I promise u we don’t have enough of it anymore first responder s and er Doctors are all being spoken on higher than the driver s out here running so they can be at home safe with their loved ones and to you ms Shelby we appreciate you so very much and are so proud of u and we are standing behind u all the way and are always here for you support you so keep the good vibes and energy going like it is and all of my otr friends and brother s and sisters out here on this road thank you and y’all run hard run safe and on time every time and keep the left door closed drivers be blessed and have a awesome safe day and run and pass it on to the next few drivers today yall
I remember trying to put a trailer between two others in a spot with 5 feet on each side. I watched a yard dog eating his sandwich watching me sweat it out. Haha. I took a photo of my tractor after I finished. It was a sense of accomplishment.
September 2022 I was hired by a school bus company and started their in house training videos. Lots and lots to learn. Lots of rules and huge responsibilities. I’m a natural gifted driver and I’m sure that I could easily learn to be an excellent driver,,,, but the job began at 6:30am or 6:00am and I was having quite a challenge remembering enough to pass the permit tests and I’m very much a night person. I have had Lyme disease about 40 years and I have trouble learning new things. I dropped out of training in November. The other part of it that began weighing on my shoulders was the huge responsibilities of driving children to and from school. The job paid $26 an hour part time.
@@robertI153 Agreed. The father of the family that lives in the apartment above us is a teacher for another school district and they were desperately looking for school bus drivers and paying just $18 per hour.
Getting your Heavy Vehicle Licence , wherever you do that , you get shown the Bare Minimum required for the actual Job . After that your Work Experiences are where you learn the rest . You go in as a Junior , and others SHOW You how to do other things , if you're lucky . It all concatenates , and after a while , You can Train others . That's how Truck Industry works . Impressive Young Woman is Shelby . Smarter than most people .
I’ve been doing regional flatbed (Denver hub) for 2 1/2 months now, and have lost 27 lbs so far. Yes, Shelby is correct that the tarps are heavy, and get even heavier when wet.
Must be System ? Yea, screw tarps ! Several of us left, and pull roll back curtain flatbeds. Will never throw tarps for chump change again. System pay is lousy !
@@esotericslayer6004 went from 280 - 253. I stopped trucking since it wasn’t a good fit for me. Not eating so many carbs helps lose weight…also, eating less in general.
If you think that Truck Driving Schools do a Bad Job what about car driving Schools? They don't teach common courtesy or common sense. In Germany they take Drivers Training very seriously and people are much better drivers in Germany even on the Autobahn with no Speed limit in some areas. Then take Italy where everyone drives crazy and they have lots of accidents.
According to her website she was working on getting her Master's degree at a college in Florida when she decided that was no longer what she wanted and she got in to trucking.
If you don't love it you won't last it's a lifestyle. Huge turnover in the industry alot of bullshit no home time. Miss alot of time with family and friends that you'll never get back. If your looking for anything from the public good luck they don't care just worry about yourself and fellow drivers who cares about the public.
Oh Shelby yes you can do oversized, it’s called a cheater bar if you only seen the little women that I’ve seen on some narly loads yes Shelby you can do it.
I highly recommend Shelby's you tube channel...she is such a great role model!!! 👍🏻
Loved the interview. Shelby, you continue to impress. While you are a smart woman, your care for others will take you a long way. Best of luck to you.

I was a pilot for 23 years, retired in 2009. Been truck driving since 2011.
that is funny because there is a trucking youtuber who started with truck driving and is now quiting to become a pilot
Awesome interview with Shelby. It's a hard industry to be in. Nothing comes easy. Her positive outlook makes her special.

I 'm in love w/this woman.
‘The Shelby Doctrine’. should be standardized in the industry.
Shelby has outdone everyone else in the trucker sphere, including Trucker Josh and Allie Knight.
We love Shelby so nice kind
Was surprised not to see a comment from Dakota😂
Very lucky drivers to work for Shelby

When my thermostat gets halfway up I get a feeling my car will explode every time I drive

They are exempting themselves by driving gliders and old trucks. They'll burn out eventually, or hurt someone. Before ELDs, I was taught how to cheat
