I do agree that most variegated anthuriums (and many philodendron) just look sickly
Idk I’m kind of a sucker for some of those philodendrons though… def appreciating well grown, green plants more these days though
I'm so glad she is putting out more frequent videos again. If there is a plant hobbyist whose advice I trust, it is this one. Expansive knowledge on the plants I like also.

When I saw your video title, I was so hyped and had a long list of witty, if not questionable comments ready for every smash.
Unfortunately, there was not a single smash for me. I mean, there were a couple I’d take home, but no keepers.
Kinda felt like being on the carnivore diet at a vegan restaurant.

I think when it comes to this, it’s always subjective. Before i dont really like variegated plants, but when i started to see it myself, omg its just caught my eyes and heart to love it more and more….

Suspected it before this video but now confirmed beyond a shadow of a doubt, anthuriums aren't my cup of tea. I saw maybe three I'd smash. Loving your increased content and appreciate the knowledge you share. I learn so much from you.
Just wait until the fancy anthurium video before you make that determination… these are pretty much the worst of what the anthurium genus has to offer. But of course, to each their own ✨🪴❤️

That’s interesting because I find my anthurium get waaaaaay fewer pests than any of my other plants but I do keep them in semi hydro which helps. To each their own though!
@PlantFriendDownTheStreet I'm going by what other "plant tubers" say. Are you saying anthuriums aren't more prone to pest infestation? If that's the case, I would be open to try a more easy-going anthurium, especially the longboy ones!
In my experience, anthurium are waaaaay less vulnerable to pests than alocasia, philodendron and monstera are. Spider mites have only ever really attacked the new leaves on mine and thrips will get them but their leaves are really thick so it takes the thrips way longer to actually destroy them. Never had mealy bugs or scale on them. No issues with fungus gnats since they are in semi hydro. They’re more susceptible to things like powdery mildew (which is only an issue in terrariums/low airflow environments) and bacterial and fungal spots which are usually very easy to prevent with proper care. Start with something like a vittarifolium or pallidiflorum if you like the super long bois! Queen anthurium is really only for masochists but the Esmeralda version from Ecuagenera or the waroqueanum x waterburyanum are good choices. Let me know if you have any additional questions!
There's been rumor that since most variegated Anthuriums are coming from Indonesia, perhaps some viruses are being introduced? They do look stressed.

The lux lives rent free in my head. The pink aces I like a lot and I do think some of the others I’d pick up if I found them in a garden center for sure. I also like that white marbled pap but the rest are kind of trash. I didn’t want to have no smashes though lol. Someone else called me out on that!

In my opinion none of these are esthetically pleasing. If I found any of these in my collection I would be looking for pest infestation, boron deficiency, ph problems, etc. These plants are as appeasing as Crocs.

When it comes to anthoriums, i think HOOKERII deserves the smash in general. I have been collecting different var antfol of hybrid hookerii or jenmanii, and they are gorgeous. The white variegated you had shown is only few of those common variegated ones, you should look on those pink siam diamond, or look for black base with red/pink variegations.. they are just awesome…

Variegation is expensive and can be a pain. So I'll pass. Still love the variegated Monsteras, syngoniums and scindapsus. But even Philos, I'm losing interest in the cost and effort.
