Boring ones are just as bad as any overly designed ones. Gen 3 and 4 were perfect with designs, Sableye and Mawile especially. As cool as Ultra beasts are, I hope they tone future designs to be more... Pokemon. It's weird to put a Caterpie next to a Necrosma and call them both Pokemon.
I get what you're saying, but the whole point of Ultra Beasts from a design standpoint was that they were supposed to look strange and different, They were supposed to be designs that a normal Pokemon would never have, like Nihilego being a Glass Jellyfish, or Buzzwole being a big, Buff Mosquito. They were supposed to stand out and look different from all of the normal pokemon.
Electrode probably isn't based on great ball because you can find items and such only in the form of poké ball and Voltorb and Electrode are basically traps/mimics so they should look like those poké balls you find items in.

906 genwunners disliked this video. I pretty much agree with everything Pokémon on this list. I love most of these Pokémon, but they are indeed boring designs.
Voltorb and Electrode are actually very well designed Pokemon. One of the most common and staple enemies in RPGs are _Mimics_. What is a Mimic? A Mimic is a monster that resembles a treasure chest to trap and ambush adventurers that come up to it thinking it is filled with loot. What do "treasure chests" in Pokemon look like? They are *Pokeballs*. Also Voltorb and Electrode move and stat wise are perfect traps, incredibly fast to move first, being able to paralyze and as many a grieving nuzlocker will tell you *they blow up in your face, often taking your Pokemon with it*. These Pokemon might look lazy, but in reality they are some of the most well thought out Pokemon from Gen 1.
This seems to assume that mimics are inherently a creative concept. They really aren't. Even if you like the idea, it's still lazy and boring. Except Mimicuties, those things are hilarious.
I love herdier’s design. The - Literally while I was typing this comment, I saw the picture of the Yorkshire terrier and kinda changed my mind. (I always thought the fur on its face looked like a star and a mustache combined, and I do enjoy that.)

Karmonit 0 Gen 5 is awesome. but gen 4 is my personal favorite. diamond was my first pokemon game, dialga is my favorite legendary, and empoleon is my favorite pokemon ever
But it is actually really good in competitive because of its prankster ability and the ability to put a bunch of hazards. I don't play competitive but I know that it is at least somewhat of a good pokemon.
They really missed a good opportunity for Voltorb to be a 3 stage evolution Pokémon with the middle stage being a great ball and the final evolution being an ultra ball.

To help the voltorb line, make electrode an great ball, add a new 3rd evolution, and make that an ultra ball, then give he third one a mega, which is a master ball
Or give Electrode a bunch of extra forms based on what Pokeball it was holding when it evolved, with the Great and Ultra forms having higher stats, and the special ball forms (Premier, Dusk, Repeat, Timer, Quick, etc.) having a change related to the respective ball, including but not limited to: stat changes, new abilities, different typings, different movepools, etc.
But that wouldn't actually make sense because Voltorb is based off an item ball not a Pokeball because it's the equivalent of a chest mimic in a standard RPG and the only colors of Item Balls are Red and now Yellow.
How to fix the electrode line: Give it a ghost type evolution. Base it off of a malfunctioning pole ball, and make it open with the red beam we see in the anime, and make it vaguely ressemble some Pokémon.

I wish Sunflora was a fire/grass type. Change the petals on it's head to flames. Make the most of it's name by taking it VERY literally and playing up the "Sun" in Sunflora.

To help the voltorb line, make electrode an great ball, add a new 3rd evolution, and make that an ultra ball, then give he third one a mega, which is a master ball
Or give Electrode a bunch of extra forms based on what Pokeball it was holding when it evolved, with the Great and Ultra forms having higher stats, and the special ball forms (Premier, Dusk, Repeat, Timer, Quick, etc.) having a change related to the respective ball, including but not limited to: stat changes, new abilities, different typings, different movepools, etc.
Actually, electrode's a pretty good candidate for an Alolan form. Maybe particularly like a type of ball exclusive to Alola.

But that wouldn't actually make sense because Voltorb is based off an item ball not a Pokeball because it's the equivalent of a chest mimic in a standard RPG and the only colors of Item Balls are Red and now Yellow.
How to fix the electrode line:
Give it a ghost type evolution.
Base it off of a malfunctioning pole ball, and make it open with the red beam we see in the anime, and make it vaguely ressemble some Pokémon.
