Sucker Punch isn't actually a Punch Move (hence why its unaffected by Iron Fist). The original Japanese name was "Surprise Attack" which actually makes a lot of sense with Diglett and Dugtrio. The move was translated to "Sucker Punch" because the localization team believed that the phrase "Sucker Punch," referring to an unexpected attack that is meant to catch the opponent off guard, would resonate more with the move's unique functionality. Thumbs up for every other time this has already been said, lol.
Well that’s true considering Mightyena was the first Pokémon to use Sucker Punch in the anime and it did so without the use of fists instead it just tackled Pikachu after circling around it to confuse it
The types of powers they have are very different. Delphox uses actual psychic powers, like a witch, while Victini's psychic powers are just it enhancing other people/pokemon

The reason Diglett and Digtrio can learn Sucker Punch is because, look at the Japanese name of the move. Sneak Attack. Sucker Punch is actually not a punch, it's not even powered up by the Iron Fist ability. The term "sucker punch" means an unexpected blow. Diglett and Dugtrio certainly look like they could sneak up on the enemy and attack them unexpectedly, by burrowing underground and then quickly emerging. The reason Rayquaza doesn't get Sky Attack is because the Japanese name of the move is God Bird. That's why, if you look at the list of Pokemon that can use Sky Attack, only birds learn it. (Except for Mew, but Mew gets every move.) Rayquaza may live in the sky, but it's a dragon, not a bird. I agree with everything else though.
+PsiPaula4 But Charizard I'd a frikken dragon not a bird and learns sky drop because syy drop are for pokemon that can carry other pokémon in to the sky and then drop them like Areodactal and Charizard and like u said the three legendary birds but Charizard is not a bird
TreecoTrainer 21 I said Sky Attack, not Sky Drop. Those are two very different moves. Sky Attack's Japanese name is God Bird, which is why dragon-like flying type Pokemon, such as Charizard, and the aforementioned Rayquaza, can't learn it. They're not birds. Sky Attack is a very rare move, so I don't blame you for not knowing what it is.

Hilariously, Carkol and Coalossal are FOUR TIMES weak to water. Yet they can learn a water type move. It doesn't matter if it's hot water. Hot water is still water.

I always noticed that. I was actually going to comment about this but I saw yours and just decided not to because 1. There are some people who are d*cks and will probably say I copied the idea and 2. No use in commenting it anyways. so yeah
There's no way anyone has ever seen a ralts the first time and not thought that it was atleast part grass type. It literally looks like a flower and obviously not just because it's green.
Sean Dewar I know, but TheAuraGuardian said that Gallade shouldn't be able to learn Leaf Blade but I don't understand why, his( because only male Kirlia could evolve into Gallade) arms are blade-like, so I don't really understand why Gallade should not be able to in TheAuraGuardian's opinion
@5:40 Best explanation I can think of for Gallade learning Leaf Blade is that he infuses his arm blade with "Grass-type" energy the same way how non-Steel types do so when using Iron Tail or when Hitmonchan uses any of the 3 elemental punches.

Updates: - Aipom gets Tail Slap through breeding, but only in Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon since the Pokemon required to get the move through breeding (Minccino and Nickit) aren't available in Gen 9. Hopefully we see them in the Indigo Disk DLC. - Noivern (only Noivern) now gets Dragon Tail via TM in Gen 9. - Machamp gets Mach Punch. But only in Legends Arceus. Growlithe still can't learn Growl though.
I know it's epic that it's called God Bird. A few Pokémon attacks have OK english names, but their Japanese names are like: "OH MY GOD" Examples of English to Japanese: Submission= Hell Wheel Overheat= Purgatory
+Zane Swartz I feel like all the non-water types that can learn (the larger ones at least) can learn it because they're very large. Do you know who else is large? Godzilla, do you know how he makes his entrances to terrorize japan? Through the water. That is what I think why most non water-types can learn surf, anyway.
Rayquaza can't learn sky attack because it is mostly used by bird pokemon and is called god bird in Japan. And tail glow is Firefly light so it makes sense for ampharos
Hey Aura guardian want to no a sad story in pokemon soulsilver? Well guess what I wanted to teach machamp drain punch but she couldn't.But my Alakazam could.Than I was just like why am I even surprised?
Okay it took a few extra braincells for me to write this. For people with extreme OCD who can't handle even the slightest errors in spelling or grammar, here you go. "Hey AuraGuardian, want to know a sad story in Pokemon Soul Silver? Well, I wanted to teach my Machamp drain punch, but she couldn't learn it, yet my Alakazam could. I thought 'Why am I even surprised?'"
For dragon dance, Barboach is base on a kind of fish that has a nickname as mud-dragon in Japan, Corphish is based on crayfish that in Japanese can be roughly translate to dragon-shrimp(in asian, we usually consider crayfish and lobster as the same kind/category of animals. Lobster can also be called dragon-shrimp)
Dunsparce can learn Thunderbolt Goldeen can learn Blizzard Torkoal can learn Withdraw (a water type move, but Torkoal is fire type) Normal Vulpix can learn Disable Phantump can learn Will-O-Wisp (it's grass type, who can learn a fire type move) Klefki can learn Draining Kiss (what does it kiss with) Staryu can learn Camouflage Zapdos can learn Rain Dance Finneon can learn Gust Grubbin can learn Mud-Slap (what does it slap with) Charjabug can learn X-Scissor Pidgey can learn Tackle Bagon can learn Ember Togepi can learn Shadow Ball Random off topic fact: My Togepi was fighting a Wingull for training, it used Metronome and got Trick Or Treat (which I assume is the sultment move of Pumpkaboo and it's evolved form), so it turned Wingull into a ghost type, so now Shadow Ball was super effective
Dunsparce has the excuse of being a normal type with a big movepool and Togepi gets Metronome via level up so it basically gets anything. Ice and snow are frozen water so it makes sense. Withdraw is only a water type move cuz in gen 1, only water types had shells and the move's description is "User withdraws into its shell". Kanto Vulpix has psychic mythical powers. Phantump is a ghost type too so it does make sense, I mean other ghost types like Yamask get the move so yeah. Finneon is the Wing Fish Pokemon. Tackle is a full body charge attack so of course it can learn it, even Magnemite gets it and Bagon has a mouth to breathe fire with.
+LordDeathReapeR Maybe under that Diglett and Dugtrio, there are wings. They are just not ready. They need to embrace it. It will spread out it wings and I will ride it into the sunset.
+HipsterPoro But they aren't parents. They would come out of the ground, and all of their stats (except for HP and speed) would be reduced to 30, their speed raised to 120, and their HP staying the same, but their ability would make them hit 3 times in the same turn, all doing equal damage.
Well, some of the moves have different names in japanese, like Sky Attack that is "God BIRD" in Japanese, then I think it makes more sense if you look to the original names.
But... Isn't Shedinja immune to all moves except supereffective ones? And if it was burned or poisoned it would be game over for it before it could heal itself. And it can't heal sleep or freeze on its own, so rest would literally only be useful for getting rid of paralysis. It wouldn't be worth it to have Shedinja learn Rest. -__-
Sucker Punch isn't actually a Punch Move (hence why its unaffected by Iron Fist).

In his mistake video, he was mainly, trying to explain that they can learn it but not scrafty
That or diglett could use it with its head to bash the opponent
It makes sense Diglett and Dugtrio because there is a lot of surprise from their mysteries. I think he was focusing on Scrafty.
Well that’s true considering Mightyena was the first Pokémon to use Sucker Punch in the anime and it did so without the use of fists instead it just tackled Pikachu after circling around it to confuse it
Still doesn’t explain why Scrafty can’t learn it.

KarmaTheCat / KarmaTheWolf Xernias has large horns/antlers.
well, in chinese, lobster is literally translated to "dragon prawn". so, yeah.
I was looking for this comment. Glad to see someone else knows this as well.
I don't understand since Pokemon is from a company in Japan. Pretty much Japanese not Chinese. I am Sorry I just had to say that
No Name You'd be surprised at how many Pokemon are based on foreign mythos
No, I know that pokemon are based on foreign myths. I just don't understand
No Name What don't you understand?
I'm imagining the literal gods xerneas, yveltal and hoopa unbound trying to lift a big boulder without success and then suddenly a jigglypuff and a clefairy pop up, put it on their shoulders without breaking a sweat, carry it 10 feet away and just start playing volleyball with it on opposite sides of a wall of net balls.
growlithe is named gardie in japanese and growl is cry...understand where I'm going with this?

I think Zubat learns mean look because it's able to use its ears as decoy eyes, like a peacock.
Lance Pearce Yeah. People always seem to notice fake eyes with Masquerain, but not with Zubat....
I always noticed that. I was actually going to comment about this but I saw yours and just decided not to because
1. There are some people who are d*cks and will probably say I copied the idea and
2. No use in commenting it anyways.
so yeah
Cocka Tale Just ignore those people and comment what you want, man.
Lance Pearce I was thinking that
Lance Pearce Can Masquerain learn it?
Obviously Gallade has leaf blades. "Dur, it's green so it's grass!"
So why it's not grass type bruh
DURR PLANT
There's no way anyone has ever seen a ralts the first time and not thought that it was atleast part grass type. It literally looks like a flower and obviously not just because it's green.
Garbador can't learn Poison Jab, yet Cryogonal can? It's so cringey.
NOOB it's called garbodor not "garbador"
basti de lara don't be a jerk. I forgot how to spell one Pokémon's name.
Yea because your a noob
basti de lara can a noob beat Pokémon Moon in five days?
'Cause that' what I did. Without a guide, mind you.
I don't understand why Gallade shouldn't be able to learn Leaf Blade
Felicia Ng it can learn Leaf Blade
Sean Dewar I know, but TheAuraGuardian said that Gallade shouldn't be able to learn Leaf Blade but I don't understand why, his( because only male Kirlia could evolve into Gallade) arms are blade-like, so I don't really understand why Gallade should not be able to in TheAuraGuardian's opinion
Felicia Ng Right Sorry Read The Comment Wrong
Sean Dewar It's alright
Felicia Ng K originally thought the Gardevoir line were Grass Pokemon lol
Galade's arm is green
best comment ever
Kaiser Lee yeah, but sometimes leaves aren't
Huy Minh Truong
Its joke
@5:40
Best explanation I can think of for Gallade learning Leaf Blade is that he infuses his arm blade with "Grass-type" energy the same way how non-Steel types do so when using Iron Tail or when Hitmonchan uses any of the 3 elemental punches.
You'll never unsee this, but Zubat's ears are shaped like eyes.
oh gosh, I just realized something when you were zooming into zubat. Its ears look like eyes

So that's how zubat learns mean look...
Yep, thats what I was thinking

Kyurem, the Pokemon with 2 alternate formes with arms made of ice, can't learn Ice Punch.
Gourgeist, a Ghost-type with visible claws, can't learn Shadow Claw. It also can't learn Perish Song, despite the 'Dex saying that it's songs can curse people.

Remoraid makes sense to get Fire Blast, beacuse it's a revolver.
4:15 the insides of Zubat’s ears look like eyes an now I can’t unsee it
10:53 cry in japanese but we'll have it your way
Actually, dogs whimpering is also known as them "crying". So either way... It makes sense.
Check out my answer, dude.
Dogs can cry, or, whimper, although they’re basically the same thing, so that’s not an excuse.
Is it bad that when you made the heavy metal pun, I identified the guitar that Aggron was holding?
It's a B.C. Rich Draco by the way
That’s more impressive than anything
@@Ms_Firekin Hahah, thank you!

Updates:
- Aipom gets Tail Slap through breeding, but only in Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon since the Pokemon required to get the move through breeding (Minccino and Nickit) aren't available in Gen 9. Hopefully we see them in the Indigo Disk DLC.
- Noivern (only Noivern) now gets Dragon Tail via TM in Gen 9.
- Machamp gets Mach Punch. But only in Legends Arceus.
Growlithe still can't learn Growl though.
We just gonna ignore that Sky Attack's Japanese name translates to "God Bird"...k
I noticed that too.
I know it's epic that it's called God Bird. A few Pokémon attacks have OK english names, but their Japanese names are like: "OH MY GOD"
Examples of English to Japanese:
Submission= Hell Wheel
Overheat= Purgatory
+jacek brzychczy Inferno is actually purgatory. Overheat is just overheat.
+Cosmic and bullet seed is seed machine gun
and Growl is actually "Cry"
Rhyperior can learn surf because it's preevolution, can Rhyd-on waves.
Where's the rim-shot app when you need it?
+Zane Swartz I feel like all the non-water types that can learn (the larger ones at least) can learn it because they're very large. Do you know who else is large? Godzilla, do you know how he makes his entrances to terrorize japan? Through the water. That is what I think why most non water-types can learn surf, anyway.
Omg! Good one!
5:14
am I the only person wondering why the Japanese name for sky attack is god bird
No
Rayquaza can't learn sky attack because it is mostly used by bird pokemon and is called god bird in Japan.
And tail glow is Firefly light so it makes sense for ampharos
Tomato TCG Well, Manaphy gets Tail Glow and it’s not a firefly...
Um check it’s typing it is a FLYING TYPE (Rayquaza)
@@frostspirit6835 But it's not a bird, though...

machamp being a she is already weird enough xd
Okay it took a few extra braincells for me to write this. For people with extreme OCD who can't handle even the slightest errors in spelling or grammar, here you go.
"Hey AuraGuardian, want to know a sad story in Pokemon Soul Silver? Well, I wanted to teach my Machamp drain punch, but she couldn't learn it, yet my Alakazam could. I thought 'Why am I even surprised?'"

7:40 "It shares traits with a lighthouse"
Oh, so it must be tall! Except it's not, it's 4'7 (~140 cm)
but it shares its brightness with a lighthouse
@@teamawesomeness7137 True, but seeing how it was designed after a lighthouse, its height is kinda surprising.
I'm pretty sure Mankey & Primeape can learn Overheat by literally exerting so much energy they burst into flames.

Dunsparce can learn Thunderbolt
Goldeen can learn Blizzard
Torkoal can learn Withdraw (a water type move, but Torkoal is fire type)
Normal Vulpix can learn Disable
Phantump can learn Will-O-Wisp (it's grass type, who can learn a fire type move)
Klefki can learn Draining Kiss (what does it kiss with)
Staryu can learn Camouflage
Zapdos can learn Rain Dance
Finneon can learn Gust
Grubbin can learn Mud-Slap (what does it slap with)
Charjabug can learn X-Scissor
Pidgey can learn Tackle
Bagon can learn Ember
Togepi can learn Shadow Ball
Random off topic fact: My Togepi was fighting a Wingull for training, it used Metronome and got Trick Or Treat (which I assume is the sultment move of Pumpkaboo and it's evolved form), so it turned Wingull into a ghost type, so now Shadow Ball was super effective
Tackle is a full body charge attack so of course it can learn it, even Magnemite gets it and Bagon has a mouth to breathe fire with.
...
Every ice type should be able to learn freeze dry
diglett should learn Fly
JUST SAYIN.....
+LordDeathReapeR Maybe under that Diglett and Dugtrio, there are wings. They are just not ready. They need to embrace it. It will spread out it wings and I will ride it into the sunset.
Hassan Ali Ali lol
+Hassan Ali Ali just wait for the mega evolution
+Hassan Ali Ali they will probably give him wings and hands!
+Hassan Ali Ali fury swipes hits 5 times every time so oooooppppp
Dugtrio needs a mega evolution where they pop up out the ground and get the parental team ablity
Yes!
+HipsterPoro But they aren't parents. They would come out of the ground, and all of their stats (except for HP and speed) would be reduced to 30, their speed raised to 120, and their HP staying the same, but their ability would make them hit 3 times in the same turn, all doing equal damage.
+Hawaiians And Diapers and Chairs Oh My Yea, but that would make dugtrio op as crap
+Dawn Stalker Yeah, if it could learn fissure, in a triple battle, wipe out all 3 in one turn.
They should use the fan art where dugdrio is a 15 ft tall muscular dude underground
4:58 Aggron looks like it was made for holding the guitar
The other day, I found out that Wooper no longer learns Ice Punch in Gen 9
Well, some of the moves have different names in japanese, like Sky Attack that is "God BIRD" in Japanese, then I think it makes more sense if you look to the original names.
Adriano Carvalho There are quite a few non-birds that can learn Sky Attack, though (Crobat being an example).
Alex:Ampharos can't learn tail glow
Me:*Throws phone across the room*
Scald means boiling water. Water has a high specific temperature, which an embering boar can obviously heat water to.
I know this had been said before but... What about other Pokemon? The last Pokemon I expect to learn Scald is Emboar
Because Emboar would gain excellent type coverage from Scald?
@@janehuskmann1914 ....It's a physical attacker......

Duly noted. If there was a _physical_ version of Scald, which I highly doubt, then we could chat.

You forgot to mention that Shedinja can learn Bide, which is just as useless as Substitute, Rest and Final Gambit.
actually Rest for Shedinja isn't entirely useless since it can get rid of bad statuses (i.e. Paralysis)
Kira Kotobuki paralysis can be very crippling actually
Yeah, but how often do you come across paralysis?
Kira Kotobuki Static ability, Thunder Wave, Stun Spore, and Effect Spore

"Tail Glow" is called "Firefly Light" in Japan. That's probably why Ampharos doesn't have it.
then how does manaphy learn tail glow when it is based on a sea angel
Sean Dewar Yeah, that doesn't make any sense.
+Sean Dewar Well there's that and also the fact that it doesn't even have a tail.
Yea that too
doesn't Manaphy use the thing on its head?
Although Noivern can’t learn Dragon Tail for stab, it can use Iron Tail to counter Fairy type Pokémon.
